At the beginning of the twentieth century, a brick chapel in the form of a tower was built on the central square of Shchuchin, which today is called Freedom Square. It was designed to protect the city, which at that time was predominantly wooden, from fires and other natural disasters. Over time, the building fell into disrepair, and in the 1960s it was decided to demolish it. In 2017, one of the symbols of the city was restored in the same place using red brick. This is how the clock tower appeared in Shchuchyn, which locals jokingly call “Big Ben”. This building, decorated with a weather vane, has classicist features.

Such buildings give personality and face to the city.

at first glance it’s a small, quiet town, but as soon as you walk around its square, all doubts immediately disappear.) it’s gorgeous, there’s a fountain nearby that pours water at different pressures over time, and in the evening it glows. It makes many cities of Belarus so beautiful, and it makes me want to go to Shchuchyn again and again. I will never forget the trip there.

An unusual structure for squares in our country is a small tower with a clock and a weather vane.
