A lovely guesthouse I would like to recommend to anyone staying in Takamatsu. The owners are genuinely nice people with exceptional hospitality. It felt like home as soon as I stepped into the house. The house is full of details that makes the experience superb - hot tea in the living room, small but functional kitchen, printed out information about the area and beyond, etc. Everything was spotlessly clean and the Japanese style futon bed was very comfy. I stayed here on a cold day and my room was warm and nice. Thank you for the stay!

Your eyes are not deceiving you. This is one of the rare 5/5 stars guesthouses. No question.

The owner is the most thoughtful and helpful person ever to own a hostel! The place is immaculate and very comfortable to stay in (automatic lights at night, a warm living room, etc). He spent a full hour (or more) explaining to us what we can do in the area (we also went without any plans). Since we didn't have a local phone he would let us use his phone to make calls. He knew what things were open and closed, which saved us a bunch of time. Everything is so well thought out at this hostel, for example he has online google map recommendations, translations on everything from toilet buttons to air conditioner remote controller, access to literally anything you might need during your travels.... Can't recommend this place enough!

6 out of 5 stars. The guest house and its rooms are stunning. The owner gave us many recommendations for the area and for dinner, and helped us for the trip thereafter. We hope to visit again for a longer period!

We had a great stay at the guest house, the host was the best we ever had. He was very welcoming and gave us so much interesting information about the area and Japan. We would highly recommend this place and are looking forward to coming back.

This is maybe one of the most amazing guesthouse's I've been to. Not only because of it's modern-traditional japaneses design and great comfort, but specially because of Takeshi's service and familiar ambience. It feel's as if You are visiting a very dear japanese friend devoted to help you make the most of your trip. He also speaks very fluent English and French and is a great traveller too.

We had a wonderful time at Wakabaya! Takeshi is an expert guide on all things Shikoku and was able to help us plan our days. He has excellent taste in food and drink too, so we never went without a recommendation. Our rooms were tidy and clean. Would definitely stay here again.

My family and I had one of the best experiences staying at WakabaYa thanks to the owner, Mr. Wakamiya. The process of booking was easy and straightforward. Everything is explained clearly on the guesthouse' website. Mr. Wakamiya replies to emails promptly and offers lots of useful information and suggestions to make our trip as enjoyable as possible. The common area (living room, kitchen, and bathrooms) and our room were spotless and equipped with essentials. Things like toothbrushes are also available for purchase at a reasonable price. The neighborhood was quiet and safe, and we were able to get delicious food with great value at local restaurants recommended by Mr. Wakamiya. There are also bike rentals and free parking spaces offered by the guesthouse for smooth transportation. Definitely recommend the place to anyone who is looking for a wonderful stay and an in-depth exploration in Takamatsu/Shikoku!

Owner is very kind, hostel is among the cleanest I have seen, and rooms are quite spacious. The owner is a backpacker himself and it shows: he knows how to make a nice hostel. Location is pretty good: it's close to the 'shopping/dining' area and not too far from the harbor to Naoshima/Shodoshima. I personally thought the bed was a little hard, but that could be my (European) preferences. I would definitely stay again.

would definitely recommend it to everyone who want an in-depth travel in Kagawa or Shikoku to stay at least one night here. The host shares a lot of useful info. and you can know much more about the places you're planning to go. The host is generous and shows his hospitality as much as he can. Love this cozy, warm place and the host and his lovely family.

What can I say about Guest House WakabaYa? First of all, I'd like to state that the host that runs the house is an incredible person who will go above and beyond to make sure your stay there whether it be for travel or work is easier on you: Whether that be recommending local places to eat, tourist attractions or clothing stores; the host always warmly helps. The rooms are lovely, in the traditional Japanese style; they come with reverse cycle air conditioners in each room so you can stay comfortable no matter the season. With multiple bathrooms easily accessible on both floors, a shower room and another shower/bath tub on the first floor. There is a kitchen with everything you need for your stay on the first floor, if you're into cooking; or perhaps a conbini-addict like myself. I stayed there for two weeks as someone who had moved to the city for work and was awaiting entrance into an apartment. My stay never felt tiresome or difficult. In fact, despite the relief of moving into my own place carried a little sadness I had to say goodbye to such a warm place to stay. As for access to services, this place is incredible: It's within a five minute walk to a 7/11 store and a grocery store. There is a nearby bus-stop for those who want to travel the city easily. My summary: This place beats any hotel by a long shot. It feels like home, even if you're there for a long time or a short time. Please stay if you can!

I had the best stay at Guesthouse Wakabaya, and I cannot recommend this place more. I could not fault anything about this stay - the room was beautiful and traditional, everything I could need was available in the guesthouse, the atmosphere was very friendly and the location was peaceful and convenient. The real gem was the owner, who went out of his way to help me to plan my stay in the area, providing some excellent recommendations (and even helping me to practice my limited Japanese!). Thank you very much for everything.

We stayed in this beautiful little guesthouse for two nights at the beginning of our Shikoku round trip. From the beginning we loved the brightness of the place and the familiar atmosphere – despite our limited japanese, the owner made us feel at ease in our conversations around the table in the kitchen area, gave us great recommendations not only for Takamatsu but also for our trip around Shikoku.

The owner was really hospitable and gave me many suggestions to travel in Shikoku. One day he even lent me his bike to go to the laundry nearby lol. The room was quite clean and comfortable. The sound insulation wasn't so good, though.

Perfect stay for my journey around Shikoku! The host and his family's hospitality were wonderful in sharing tea and recommendations for meals and my travels. I was very pleased with this clean, comfortable lodging. Thank you!

The place is clean and quaint, located near a train station that is only a few stops away from Takamatsu Station, so it's very easy to get to. The owners were kind and helpful. Helped me plan my trip and get to the bus when I was running late for my train.

New (as of 2014) guesthouse. Very clean and near from metro station. Not many rules but quiet because most of guests are Japanese. Host can speak English and French. Beds are comfortable but little hard. Little expensive compare to general guesthouse. I highly recommend this guesthouse.

New hostel with amazing owner N34°20′03.27″ E134°03′41.68″ This hostel is near the city centre in a quiet neighbourhood, far away from the many railway tracks in Takamatsu. No train noise like in the other hostel in Takamatsu. The owner has a local map ready with locations of restaurants in Takamatsu. For dinner, a small izakaya with good udon and for breakfast an excellent udon restaurant are a short walk from this hostel. In April 2018, our private room on 2F has the possibility for three persons sleeping, but with 4 1/2 tatami, two adults sleep comfortably with enough room for luggage. The room is equipped with air conditioning for cooling and heating. We slept well with no disturbing noises from inside and outside. Next to the room is a shared toilet. One shared shower and one shared bath/shower is on 1F. No big fans of shared bathrooms, we had no hesitation to use the clean facilities. The communal living room offers everything you need to prepare your own meal. A washing machine but no dryer is available. Outside is parking space for six cars. Leave your car key with the owner and he will make sure your car does not block other cars. The owner is an experienced traveller himself and settled to start his own family and this hostel in 2014. His hostel reflects the best of his travel experiences. Everything is self-explaining or clearly signed. A small booklet in the room answers every question. No guesswork. The communal room offers a range of information about what to do on the island. His hospitality is amazing. He has an answer to every question. His website is great and we booked the room by email, to prevent the owner paying a high commission fee to a well-known internet-booking website. Wakabaya Guesthouse is a modern hostel with private bedrooms, taken to a completely new level by a very enthusiastic and experience owner. Very recommended.

The guesthouse was very clean and updated. Once we arrived, the manager spent time with us to see what we wanted to do in Takamatsu and gave us many options and pamphlets. We had the private rooms which were very comfortable for 2 people. I would definitely stay again!

Nice place and great service. The host is very nice, gives great advices, and also speaks English. Traditional Japanese style room, clean and comfortable. The location is also great. Not far from the downtown area and super close to train station.

I had a great stay at Wakabaya, with all the facilities very clean and the host, Takeshi and his family, extremely welcoming and kind. The location was also ideal, with the city centre in walking distance and the nearby train station proving useful.
