I will absolutely recommend this place for every tourist who visits Darjeeling. This place gives you a different energy that inspires you to be great. They have place for rock climbing, wall climbing, zip lining for everyone. The mountaineering institution and zoological garden are just in the same place. Definitely visit the museum which is totally worthwhile. Get to know many information about mountaineers, their journeys and equipments and so on.

Excellent institute for those who would like to know more about mountaineering. The Institute is well maintained. There is an indoor climbing area where one can try a bit and see how difficult it is to be a mountaineer. Inside the institute, there is a well maintained museum which exhibits various tools used by mountaineers. Also, many tools and gadgets used by great mountaineers are exhibited. The tomb of Tensing Norgay is in this institute. Photography is not allowed inside the museum. Also various maps and statistics are exhibited here which provide immense knowledge to people who are interested in mountains and mountaineering. Many tools used by earlier mountaineers can be seen here. There is a shop here which sells caps, gloves, and other items at a reasonable price. Very nice place which provides information and give us a glimpse of the history of mountaineering. All should try to visit this place at least once. The authorities should be given a big salute for maintaining the place in such an excellent condition.

No visit to Darjeeling can be complete without a visit to Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. Importantly it is in the same entrance to the Zoo and therefore its 2 birds with one stone. Nevertheless, it would be smart to take out at least a couple of hours to cover this place. About 1 hour 15 mins to buy tickets and experience and also learn a bit of Wall climbing, Rock climbing, zip climbing etc. The remaining 45 mins to cover the beautiful museum. Well for tourists who absolutely hate a museum they can also spend some time as it provides insights of the mountaineering gears, various expeditions taken by this institute and terrains of the Himalaya shown in amazing details. There is also a memorial of Padma Bhushan Tenzing Norgay that should not be missed out. I would also recommend the Mountaineering and Adventure film show that costs Rs30/- per person. The show timings are 10 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 3 PM and 4 PM. There is also a very nice Souvenir shop in front of the Museum and it has fantastic collections to take back home. Do give it a try too

The place is located inside the same campus of the Zoo cum Botanical Garden. It is one of the most interesting place to visit if you are a hiking and mountaineering endeavour. The place is very beautiful located amidst the natural beauty of Darjeeling hills. There is show facilities for tourists regarding mountaineering stories. But if you are not that interested in those activities, then its of no use visiting here. But You will definitely love the natural beauty & view around here. Thank You!

The entrance ticket is common for both Himalayan Mountaineering Institute & the Zoo. The foundation of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute was laid after Tenzing Norgay. This has a beautiful museum which provides a lot of information regarding the Himalayas, its geography, the expeditions and about the Mountaineers. Photography inside the museum is not allowed.

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute established at jawahar parbat, darjeeling. Tenzing Norgay became the first Director of Field Training of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute inΒ darjeeling , when it was set up in 1954. Inside there is Tenzing Memorial, musuem, tenzing rock, The popular slogan is May (You) Climb From Peak To Peak. This Institute is inside Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park. So if you visit zoo then must visit HMI. Also in the same area Bengal Natural History Musial is situated.

This place is a must visit, if you are staying in darjeeling. The zoo is well kept and has many different animals, including of course the red panda. The mountaineering museum is also definitely worth a visit. I especially liked the comparison they showed between different eras of climbing and how the gear progressed.

Situated inside the Darjeeling zoo this place is difficult to find. Though a large amount of people visit the zoo a limited population visits this institute and the museum inside it. Mountaineering enthusiasts and history buffs would love this place. The institute offers various courses on mountaineering and details can be obtained from their website. The museum houses the original equipments used by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hilary during the first ever ascent of the mount Everest. It also has iconic pictures and can educate one on the evolution of mountaineering equipments.

HMI is a must visit place in Darjeeling. It's a mountaineering institute which trains people to climb and trek the most toughest peaks in the world like Everest, K2, etc. It's located inside the zoo park, so the zoo and HMI entry is common with same ticket price. In the museum, One can learn a lot about the famous climbers the world have ever seen. You'll get to know about the history of climbing Everest for the first time and how the guy took training from this institute decades back. You can also enjoy the obstacles which are on easy level that costs an extra ticket of 210 INR.

The best and First Mountaineering institute of the county. It has a very experienced set of instructors and mentors. The principal here GP CAPT JAI KISHAN SIR is very good towards the students and is a very ambitious person. Other teachers and staff are polite too. If you are thinking of doing any mountaineering courses then this is the place you are looking for.

It was interesting seeing all the climbing gear used over the years; I also enjoyed seeing a lot of mountaineering artifacts they've collected. Unfortunately several of the exhibits are broken. I also found many spelling mistakes and incorrect facts in the material; they really should get a professional to proof read and fact check their exhibits before their put them on display for the public.

A wonderful way to experience the contributions of the region to high altitude mountaineering. There is a particularly useful and imaginative installation that shows the locations of the most daunting peaks in the region using a physical 3D model. Apart from this, seeing the evolution of mountaineering gear is also interesting.

The palce is for people living in planes of India and abroad to get acquainted with the thrilling and adventurous cum dangerous life of mountaineers. Last time when we visited we have seen some things of YETI, but recently they have removed things related to it. After seeing the museum we got to know the real Edmund and Tenzing. How difficult it would have been for them to climb then. Now we have so many equipment and advanced technology even then Mount Everest is Mount Everest.

Some exhibits are good, but a lot of the park is closed off for the public, and the Quantity and quality of wildlife and the exhibits have largely deteriorated in the last two decades.

The place is good but there is a reptile house which has only 2 snakes that thing disappointed me a lot... Museum was good... The Zoo has a lot of goat with too many names 🀣... And another thing I liked about Zoo is Red Panda- "The central of attraction"...

Visited on 27.10.2021. My previous visi was forty years back 1981. Many positive changes happened. Now it is of two floors, displays gadgets used in 2010 expedition also. One can see n compare here climbing gadgets of 1900's and 2010's. Too much ups and downs in compound. To watch a film show one have to go down 15 feet to enter auditorium. This a problem for aged persons. Washroom is there. Snacks outlets near main gate. Overall a enjoyable visit here ~

It's an absolutely fantastic place to visit! Very enjoyable at every corner. The obstacle courses are very fun and I enjoyed them a lot. The museum is so nicely set up gives so many insights and every moment there was worth with. Also with the zoo along with the institute it's a complete holiday place to spend like 3-4 hours to go around and enjoy. I had a fantastic experience with my friends.
