Ava Art Gallery houses paintings of an entirely different kind. Mrs Ava Devi and her husband "painted" with very fine silk threads. The paintings are actually embroidery works. At first glance the paintings look like they have been painted, but on closer look, the fine thread work is revealed. A must see for all art lovers. The gallery also has an exotic collection of memorabilia and souvenirs collected by the couple from all over the world.

We visited Ava art gallery ....we are awestruck by the art work of Ava Devi.....no doubt she was one of the finest artists of India....her artwork are the examples of finest composition and needle work ....she played with light and shade with elan....I strongly recommend for visiting this gallery .

A good place to visit in Darjeeling if you are into arts and stuffs. Entry fee is only 5rs. Photography is strictly not allowed inside and any defaulter to this rule will be penalised with a fine of 1000rs.

Ava Art Gallery was established in the year 1965 by Late Ava Devi who was known as a genius of embroidery art, and Bhopal Rao Sett. Ava Art Gallery is the only art gallery of its kind in Darjeeling. When you enter inside, one would get to see a permanent collection of sixty pieces of exquisite artwork of Ava Devi including water, oil and thread paintings. There are two special paintings in the gallery that one must not miss. The first one is called "Still Strong" and the other one as "Torture" that reflect Ava Devi's outstanding talent and skills in the field of artwork. The gallery opens from 8 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon and and again opens from 1 in the afternoon till 5 in the evening. Please note that photography is not permitted inside.

At present this gallery is closed to public. It is situated on Hill Cart road, around 2 km from Darjeeling Chowrasta. The road down from Ava Art Gallery would lead you to Darjeeling Rajbari. The condition of the road is not good. Little below Ava Art Gallery is DIKIBASH Home Stay, where tourists can start comfortably with all amenities at reasonable price.

Small gallery on first floor in one big room. Average traveller can skip this point of interest. But if you have keen interest in embroidery, you should visit this. On January 2018, ticket was Rs. 5 per head.
