The owner has managed to make this museum on his own guts, I respect that but he runs this on his own time and convenience.

It's an unique museum of the Lepcha clan. Lepchas are the Indigenous inhabitants of present Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Southern Bhutan and Eastern Nepal. The museum is founded by late Shri Sonam Tshering lepcha. This is the only lepcha museum in the world.

Was closed during work hours and none of the people on premises seemed to have any idea who opens it and when. Short walk but if you’re short on time may not want to risk it. Was looking forward to knowing more about Lepcha peoples.

A small but rich museum about the Lepcha community culture and history. We were shown around and explained everything by Mr Korbong Lepcha, the son of Padma Shri Sonam Lepcha who had set up the museum. He had great knowledge and passion for preserving and promoting Lepcha culture.

The Lepcha Museum, also known as the Lepcha Heritage Centre, is a museum dedicated to the Lepcha community, an indigenous ethnic group of the Indian state of Sikkim. The museum aims to preserve and showcase the cultural heritage, traditions, art, and artefacts of the Lepcha people. If you're interested in visiting the Lepcha Museum, it's advisable to check its location and operational status, as details may change. Museums often play a vital role in preserving cultural history and providing insights into the traditions of specific communities.

It's a less known tourist place. A small room includes many artefacts of the very old gompha that was badly damaged by earthquake. Hence after it has been rebuilt and the old pictures have been renovated with painful skills of INTACH. The items included were wonderful. The upstairs gompha was closed. I would appreciate if a larger room with a short history of Kalimpong Lepchas are also included in the museum.

Very friendly welcome and personal tour. It's a shame that this museum does not receive support to preserve the history of the Lepcha for the future.
