The forest is scenic, our guide was great and informative, but the overall experience is totally lacklustre. Unfortunately, the authorities and whoever are responsible for the attraction don’t seem to know or care much about present day tourism. I’m not sure why the prices are so high when their are no signs of investment. I would not recommend it to anyone in its current state. With some education, this place could have real potential.

It is a very dense tropical rainfall forest. Various species of birds and very huge indigenous trees. Very skilled tour guides on site

With my friends we did Mama Mutere trail.. Mama Mutere is a tree that was used to reafforest this magical place.. we also climbed to the highest point in the forest to reveal magical views 360 degrees views of the forest. There is some tree harvesting going on of exotic trees leaving some ugly patches on the forest. We had great tome with patrick the community guide. You can also camp by the forest offices and do a night hike to get to see one of the monkey species that nocturnal interesting stuff.. payment at this station is done on mobile transfer Mpesa. This is a place to be especially for forest bathers, bird and butterfly watchers..

We enjoyed the walk in the forest under the guide of Ms. Caroline, who provided us with great information about the indigenous tree species and butterflies that are abundant in Kakamega Forest. Lovely spot for a picnic as well after the forest tour

Amazing place, but very difficult birding due to thick foliage and tall trees. :)

A walk that took 1 hour and 54 minutes from the Kenya Forest office led us to a view point that made everything worth it.

Entry to Kakemega primary forest. You need a guide to enter. People are friendly here. There are no sanitary facilities.

We loved this place. Abreham was our excelent guide. He was a great communicator and extremely knowledgeable of the biology., history and full of facinTing anecdotes. He also showed us round the tree nursery and even accompanied us to another garden to sourcce some cordia africana which was sold out.. 10/10

Kakamega Forest is a wonderful getaway with great potential to attract thousands of visitors monthly but sadly the much-needed marketing and upgrading investment is lacking. The Google pin takes visitors to the wrong address and it's only by calling that you're informed to use the pin address for the Kakamega Forest Station. Staff are friendly and professional. Visitors are informed of a new requirement that has been introduced to hire a guide to accompany them but the cost of the guide is not published neither is payment receipted. The view point is no longer accessible and no timeline is given on plans for readmitting visitors.

Beautiful dense forest with alot of indigenous trees, majestic River Yala, Lirhanda Hill and caves. I did the full day hike close to 7hours and really enjoyed it. If you are nature lover, you will love this place. Bring long trousers to cover your legs as the forest is dense. Quick to dry trousers and long sleeved tshirts a better option.

Forest is lovely. But the guide KFS gave us (Moses) was drunk and absolutely useless. He was drinking throughout the walk so, by the end, he could barely string a sentence together. We were supposed to have a 3-4 hour walk but it was 1hr 40 in the end. He threw his plastic bottle (that I assume had been alcohol and not water) into the forest 3 times and each time we told him not to litter and to pick it up. Dreadful experience. Do not use Moses as a guide!
