29/08/2021 update. Similar experience, but worth people understand almonds should delivered with the drinks (as ordered), and tomato bread is not a dessert (should be served with food, asked the waiter and corrected and voided from my ticket, which is very kind) Well my wife and elder lad visited today, lunch time (we're Spanish). In summary: - Booking is done over an app that retains £10 per booking/ visitor if cancellations aren't done with notice, or you don't present on the time agreed - Polite and attentive service - Order is done over a browser/ table QR ticket provided that works as a piece of cake (free WiFi on site). From aperitif, to main, puddings, included hot and cold drinks - Great quality, and fresh food (except Santiago pudding which texture was too hard, and clearly in poor quality conditions) - Waiting time is on the long side (for the hot food) - Price is on the expensive side, seeing the 10% service charge on the bill straight

A great restaurant - plenty of space with a great buzz upstairs and downstairs. The service was quick & attentive. There was a great selection of tapas including vegan options of traditional dishes including albondigas. All of the dishes are fresh, hot and very tasty. The portions are generous. We had a great dinner and look forward to returning soon.

AMAZING! Best tapas I have had since Barcelona nearly 20 years ago. Also service is the best! Poppy was so friendly and welcoming. Really amazing service, she is a credit to the restaurant. We had only just got to York and she was so knowledgeable and helpful. I wish York was nearer as I loved it so much!

Everything about this tapas place is excellent. We ordered 4 dishes each and could barely finish so portions are generous. All our dishes were really good but the green beans, the shepherd's pie and the chorizo were our favourites. The wine was really lovely too. Staff were excellent - attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

Delicious! An excellent vegan menu so I couldn’t really choose. In the end I had Hummus Cargado Vegano and loved this plate - 5 stars for being vegan and packed with proteins. I also had Sham-Bas Gambas Veganas - fake prawns and the sauce were very very nice 😋

Service was great from all the staff from greeter to server. The food wasn't as good I'm afraid, I ordered calamari which was over done and rubbery. The wife ordered 2 vegan options which lacked any real hint of flavours. The cocktails were nice, overall a little disappointed as some reviews raved about it, maybe the just an off day for the chef?

Visited October 2023: this is one of the rare wheelchair accessible places in York so met with a friend for lunch. The staff were pleasant and our waitress helped us choose some dishes and gave her opinions on which to choose and the food was bought out fairly quickly. 3 diners and we each had 3 dishes and the bill came to almost £100 so you’re looking at £11 a dish which for me seems quite high but I’ve never had tapas before so maybe this is expected? They put a service charge on the bill which I dislike because staff are paid proper wages, this isn’t America. If people want to leave some cash afterwards that’s fine but adding service charges I feel is very tacky. Increase your already high prices if you’re not getting enough. I feel it leaves a bad taste after dining out but that’s my opinion. Wheelchair accessible and toilets are located downstairs with a good accessible bathroom.

We had a great time at Ambiente for an evening meal. They managed to squeeze us in last minute (thank you guy on the front desk!) and the food was fantastic. They were busy but we were not waiting long for food. We had patatas bravas, lamb patties, mussels, meatballs, feta, dates wrapped in bacon and tortilla. They were all lovely but the patatas bravas were incredible. We also had a tasty sangria and mango vermut. Thanks for having us!

Decided to call in for a drink and a snack, while passing by. Great decision. We chose 3 tapas, I had a delicious house red and my husband had a lemon beer. We had Halloumi, feta salad and croquettes. All were beautifully presented and the flavours were wonderful. We will definitely be back while in York. Wish they had one of these restaurants in our home town.

Hmmm, got recommended this from a friend who also mentioned he had sherry offered to him!! This may have been the smaller venue at Goodramgate (the service was not at good), we believe the food and service is far better in Fossgate... more chilled. The food review: Bread with olive and balsamic, lovely but paid extra for hummus as I don't like oil and balsamic -charged £4.25 for hummus! - Chirozo and patasas. Amazing - Ham and cheese croquettes only 3 on plate for 2 people..... - Tiger prawns, Amazing but 5 on plate for 2 people...... - Special - pork with sauce, equated to 4 slices of pork - Lemon chicken on skewers, very small and dry - Meatballs, Amazing Wine , Amazing and they offered us a taste. Service, amazing Overall, food, service, amazing but I wouldn't order certain foods that we ordered above. We would come back when we visit Y

Visited here a several times over our last few visits to York. Whether they're very busy or quiet, the service was excellent, not only efficient but engaged. The regular menu is great but they're plant-based choices are superb. Very impressed and shall return.

Great selection of tapas and an absolute delicious sangria! We each got 4 different tapas and they were great, would definitely go back!

Had a lovely experience here yesterday lovely atmosphere and amazing food. We had the anchovies, chicken thighs as a starter while we waited for our paella. The paella is a hefty delicious portion. We also has a lovely bottle of white wine! Honestly can't wait to go back, the only thing that could be improved was that the paella could have done with more slices of lemon in for taste but that's just a personal preference!

Fantastic experience, great food! Popped in on impulse, they were fully booked but allowed us to eat at a bar table. We had a wide selection of food, all top rate. Cocktails were expensive but properly made and high alcohol content so well worth going for. Would highly recommend, but book in advance as the place gets rammed, and understandably so.

Absolutely stunning food! We hadn’t done Tapas for a while and came here on the back of a recommendation from a friend. We got the moorish lamb, prawns, meatballs, seabreem, goats cheese, and chicken & chorizo kebab. About 6 plates easily fills 2 hungry adults (who can eat!). Topped with an Estrella and a Lemonade. The staff were lovely, very welcoming, and the service is fast (we were seated for our reservation, had eaten, and was out within 45 minutes). It’s a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it for the quality of the food and the flavours.

Fantastic tapas and a unique sherry tasting experience. I went for the tapas which has all the classics you expect but presented in a way to keep them fresh and enjoyable. I didn't expect to go on a sherry adventure but thanks to Emily who served me I tried a trio of very different sherries that blew me away. Great place for a new drinking experience.

Wine was superb, tapas was varied and all authentic! Staff attentive and friendly, impeccably clean establishment. Only critique was the pudding dessert was cold, quickly rectified by the staff and knocked off the bill. Impressed. Will return!

Wonderfully friendly team doing wonderfully polish food. We needed exactly everything they gave us from the delicious fresh, warm and filling food on a cold day to a bit of banter. It felt like we’d been going everyday for a year. Plenty of seating and make sure you try the delicious home made bread.

Fantastic meal had here, lovely service. Food was a delight, every bite a flavour sensation, nice buzz and ambiance about the place. Lots of sherry to try. Would love to visit again when in the area next 😊👍

The food was excellent. Packed full of flavours and deliciously cooked. The paella is big enough for four people. A couple of issues, the prices are not on the menu, so the bill might come as a surprise, especially as they add a 10% service charge. Will definitely go again.

Having been to this tapas restaurant before several years ago, we knew to expect good quality food and great service, however we weren't prepared for quite how incredible this place had become. Deciding to push the boat out, several of our group wanted to try one of their sherry flights (pictured), but had very little knowledge of sherry. One of the staff members spent a considerable amount of time helping us select the most well suited flight for each person, which kicked the meal off to a great start. Being recommended about 3-4 dishes per person and being a group of 4, we went with a conservative 10 dishes from across the menu and they were ALL to-die for. I won't mention them all but the chorizo and potatoes were great and paired with the most incredible red wine sauce, the beef empanandas had the most incredible blend of spices with a perfectly crunchy exterior only rivaled by lightly battered goats cheese; the batter was amazingly light whilst the cheese was creamy, smooth and the perfect level of salty. It's safe to say we had to order a second round of dishes! Despite being extremely full and content, we managed to share a Santiago tart and Basque burnt cheesecake. Both were great desserts, with a chunky but enjoyable take on the almonds in the tart, but slightly overshadowed by the main course. Throughout our meal the staff were extremely hospitable, and always willing to spend an extra minute with you to help with selection from the menu. At points we did have to wait 15-20 minutes for our plates to be cleared, a slight frustration, however it was a busy Saturday evening and we were too blown away by the food to be too bothered by this. All in all, an amazing group of Tapas restaurants, with extremely reasonable prices for the food you get and some of the most helpful staff I've had the pleasure of meeting! Would highly recommend if you're in York, Hull or Leeds; it's worth a visit.

Great brigade and staff turning out well cooked and presented Tapas. The industrial decor belies the very Iberian food and great range of sherries. The menu ranges through meat, fish and veggy tapas. We tried a good variety and all were good, served by the helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Even steak, squid ring and prawn is good.. Poor service. Bad experience ever. Five dishes we ordered including mussel and paella mixed. We served mussel first. I ate two. They were stink, so I stopped eating. After 40 minutes wait, paella arrived, and the mussel was stinky as well. Staff asks how was our meal. I said I don't like the mussel, it tasted bad, it wasn't fresh. Staff took it away and said they would ask manager to sort the problem. As a result, no one paid attention to our table after they took away the dishes in the rest of time. Until I asked the staff again, she said it was due to our personal taste that she could not give me a refund (no refund even after taking the dishes away?). I went to the manager and told him the mussel wasn't fresh, and he said no way! they made it every day, actually there is no link between they sell it every day and not fresh. Isn’t it?! The fact is it tastes ewwww and smells ewwwww🤢 and no one will responsible for it !!

Absolutely love this place! For me, its up there as one of the best places to eat in York. Service is always great and the food is to die for. Recommended the goats cheese and beetroot main, it was ace!

Food was nice and tasty, the prawns could have been better, they tasted a bit of frozen prawns. The pata negra was nice, and so was the melted cheese. The waitress who served us was really polite. Overall an ok experience, wouldn’t brag about it but would also go back to try more things. A bit pricey.

Food was burnt, greasy and undercooked. The restaurant smelt of burnt cooking oil and the food had the same taste. One of the tapas we ordered didn't arrive and we ask for it. Won't be rushing back and would tell people to avoid as there's better restaurants in the area.

Excellent atmosphere and staff were great too. Food was good but little room for improvement on the food. Me and my partner had a great time. We wasn't sure what we'd like to drink from the wine menu so the waitress let us pick a few and she came back with tasters to help us make up our minds. We changed our mind on table time as we were shopping and this wasn't a problem they also gave us a slightly bigger table to accommodate our shopping bags. Would happily return!!

Really great staff that are knowable with everything they serve. Great Tapas, decent size and sherry to go!

We did not have a table booked, the restaurant was very busy and they were flexible enough to give us a table! I am so glad that this was possible! Staff were quick, friendly and efficient although they were extremely busy. We ordered 6 vegetarian dishes and some bread. Each dish was presented perfectly; each dish was different and had distinct flavours. Definitely worth investigating!

A little overcrowded when we went during the summer holidays but I only say this because the staff seemed very stressed and overworked. The food was all lovely and came out pretty quickly, and their pimms was so nice during the hot weather. A little on the pricey side, but tapas always are outside of Spain, and definitely worth it for the quality!

First meal on our trip to York Absolutely incredible Food was perfect I can’t knock anything All made fresh to order Wasn’t a fan of the Sherry but enjoyed trying the flights paired with the food! Service was brilliant and everyone was really friendly My fav dishes are the olives and tomato bread starter The prawns were out of this world and croquettes are tasty! But to be honest every dish was perfect Thanks…our new go to in York 😋
