This used to be the best gym but since management changed it went downhill. Every winter, sauna/steam and hot water stops working for months. Bearing in mind how much money we pay, management do not seem to care although reception staff are amazing. I cancel my membership leading up to winter because i know the services will be down. No compensation is given to members who pay full price for half the facilities.

Been at this gym for many years. Awesome staff, but awful management, aswel as a non existent maintenance team. Every year the sauna or steam room stops working without fail, this then takes months (3 to 4 months usually) to get back up and running again. Meanwhile they charge you premium prices with no apologies or compensation!

Air con does not work in summer and sauna does not work in winter. I was getting better value at the gym which cost fraction of membership here. Don’t join if you are looking to use sauna, Jacuzzi and gym in summer

My first day at the gym and I was most disappointed as all I came for initially was a sauna. The staff member refused me entry to the sauna/swim area due to having 3/4 swim shorts with mesh lining and no zips, a type which I have worn over four decades at multiple establishements and top hotels locally and abroad with no issues. There must be people in the club with very poor hygiene and I'm sure nobody comments or complains about the failure there where they swim whilst barely having cleaned their backsides properly!! This is what needs addressing, not my choice of attire! Being a founder member of Nuffield Health from 1980 on University road; I had no issues then. I understand these are club rules but I refuse to wear shorts and as suggested lycra pants. The lockers were old school and needed your own padlock, the state of the showers was poor and unhygienic (strong smell), the jacuzzi is still broken and management said it is now out of use, there was a lad screaming obscenities into his mobile phone with a conversation which was too loud in the locker area. Nobody had given me any indication of "rules and regulations" prior to signing up. I also was not made aware of an open week 7 day free pass this week, yet the staff were happy to sign me up immediately last week. Personally, the reviews speak for themselves with 38 1* and 2* reviews and the club has gone downhill since Green's was taken over.

This place was great when Sam was the manager but she has to take some time off and things very quickly deteriorated into standards that I regard as unacceptable. Toilets rarely in reasonable order, two showers in the men's changing rooms were unusable for over a fortnight, despite repeated requests to get them fixed and despite so many men queueing for the showers each day at peak times. Not only that, but membership seemed to suddenly change from a level that provided a great training atmosphere without too much inhibition of access to kit, to bring barely able to do a workout because the place was so ram (full). Two members of staff, both called Sarah, were usually very helpful, as was Kotryna. The rest left something to be desired. Nikki was also very friendly but she is a contractor and doesn't technically work there so can't be held accountable as a member of staff per sΓ© (more's the pity). Some of the members here are extremely rude, they like to walk about as if they own the place and are backed by management in doing so, as demonstrated by a couple of incidents that were essentially caused either by lack of gym floor and changing room policies or lack of adherence to policies that are not explained adequately. If they bring back Sam, promote Kotryna and the two Sarahs, sort out their cleaning schedule, get the showers in working order and decide whether they want to run a leisure club where people go to train, or a private members' club where people go to enjoy some leisure time but don't consider other members or their time because the general ambience is one where people don't respect each other, maybe this place would be worth visiting again. Until then, the advice would be to stay well away. There are better clubs for equivalent, or maybe even lower, costs and they might just be places that are run better than this.

A real shame that Nuffield is so poorly looked after considering the perfect location, the building (with lots of natural light), and great parking. This used to be my favourite gym in Leicester. The primary reason behind my one-star rating, is due to the defective air conditioning. This has been "looked at" over the past few months (and years), but it needs a full replacement. The current system is not capable of cooling such a vast building. There are no windows at this gym, it is a giant closed greenhouse. It's right next to a greasy pungent fast food factory, so I believe functional air conditioning is the only option. If it is 18c outside, it will be nearly 30c inside (see attached picture) ... If it is high 20s outside, it will reach nearly 40c inside. Last month 2 members fainted, yet they still haven't fixed the air con. There are no official legal regulations for upper temperature limits, only lower limits (never an issue at this gym). They haven't put up fans around the gym to try and help drop the temperature, after promising for weeks. The gym is also filthy, there are not enough cleaners. I am rolling in dirt when I need to foam roll before squats / Deadlifts. Perhaps more cleaners need to be hired to clean up at the end of the day, it is obviously very tricky to clean when there are lots of people around. There are used tissues, dust balls, and cobwebs all over the place. I don't enter the changing rooms / swimming area / sauna as this is ridden with green mould, likely from the heat and lack of ventilation. The fault is not that of the staff, the PTs + reception staff are all fantastic. This fault is with upper Nuffield management, who have not allocated any budget to fully replace the air conditioning, and have neglected it for several years. It gets worse every year. It is absurd how they are allowed to stay open if the inside climbs to these temperatures. It can also reach 25c+ inside in the winter. Earlier this year, Nuffield Leicester had an enticing gym offer for new members, offering full memberships for just Β£30 or so per month. Understanbly, it is now swarming with people, making it even warmer. Between 5-9pm is insanely busy, sometimes you can't get a bench or cable machine, even though there is lots of equipment. There are plenty of members who are very disrespectful. Weights are left all over the place. Machines are left with weights on them. The dumbell racks are not labelled and it is sometimes not possible to find a matching pair. Reluctantly, I now must sign up to second summer gym, because it is impossible to train here without feeling like I'm about to pass out. David Lloyd, warehouse gym, progress works and even budget gyms like pure gym have working ac / some form of cooling. Unfortunately, they are not as close. Complaining is seemingly pointless, my email just ends up in a pit of unopened complaints... The onsite management + staff are not able to fix this problem even though they want to. I genuinely think they will do nothing to replace the air conditioning until hundreds of more members faint, and when fainting becomes a daily occurance. Likely someone from Nuffield will reply to this, and lie about an engineer being booked in to replace a part that will "fix" the issue. If you're a fan of hot yoga, and want to try hot bodybuilding, or you want to experience fainting firsthand, there is no better place. @Nuffield management, please fix the air conditioning.

After cancelling my membership I was initially going to leave my original review despite the fact that gym is no longer run to the private membership standards. It's just constant breakdowns which take ages to sort out and management not interested, not listening and/or responding to the members concerns/queries. Only positives about this once great and properly run gym is great car park and lovely Personal Trainers. So few things which triggered my revised review: 1. I've contacted general manager Chris Cooke in person and via email about my concerns with regards to gym standards gone way below where it should be as well as I've reported a potential fire hazard in the free weights area to which he agreed needed to be rectified. No response/feedback from him whatsoever nor the rectification of a said fire hazard. 2. I have made a complaint about standards to the reception in July and told them same time I'll be cancelling my membership. Was told can't cancel straight away, need one month notice. 3. End of August stopped by reception to ask if they want my card as it's last time I'm in. Was asked if I've signed a paperwork to cancel and as I didn't was handed one. Didn't want to argue so just handed it back. 4. From mid of September duty manager Laura Simons is now bullying me into paying for yet another month of membership. It's very strange they don't care and don't respond to any emails and concerns while you are a member but now all the sudden I've got emails and letters flying my way. Maybe you should spend more time to train your staff so they can clearly communicate with a member when said member tells you gym is a rubbish and he's cancelling the membership as well as spend your time trying to rectify all issues within the gym and answer member queries. ‐--------------------------- original review--------- Been a member of quite few gym's in the town over the past 13 years. It is definitely the most expensive of all of them. In terms of facilities I will have to compare it to Bannatyne which is Β£20 less a month! Definitely the car park and cleanliness is better then at other gyms. With recent upgrade to TechnoGym the equipment is finally up to date and on par with leading gyms in the area. At the minute I do enjoy going there but if they were to put the prices up any further I would definitely cancel and go elsewhere.

UPDATE - Removed a star (from 2 to 1) because the place is sadly even worse now in 2023. I called recently to query on re-joining as, due to health issues, i need access to a sauna and pool and this was most convenient for location. I was told bluntly by a staff member on the phone that the sauna and jacuzzi's are now permanently shut off until April due to a 'business decision' - purely out of curiosity i asked whether membership was discounted to reflect this and he simply said 'no'. Avoid at all costs, this place is just a scam. I miss when this place was Green's, it was an absolutely beautiful gym. It's truly saddening to see what the place has become. Original review - Sadly had to cancel my membership as the site has gone down hill despite refurbishments. They've removed the ladies only gym room (why?!) as well as the beautiful cafe/lounge area that i frequented after every workout session. I used to love nothing more than relaxing in the cafe after my workout and watching the news on the various tv screens there... now they've blocked the whole area off and put a vending machine in front of it?! We even used to rent the area out for charity nights etc as they had a bar! Those days are long gone. Such a shame that these have been removed yet the price of membership is still Β£20 above most other places.

Great programme for joint and muscle pain. Brent leads sympathetically with a wide variety of activities to bring up fitness levels and decrease discomfort. There is a wide selection of fitness equipment to suit all comers and the pool, steam and sauna rooms are great! Staff are always very welcoming and helpful and the level of cleanliness makes it a real pleasure to use the facilities. I will continue to be a regular attender! Thankyou everyone for making fitness so pleasurable - even when it's hard work.

They have some of the highest fees around this area, but clearly are not happy to invest it in the gym. Often overcrowded. No security anywhere so you car or bicycle is always at risk. My bicycle was almost stolen when locked at the main bike rack at the gym and was told there are no cameras. Manager said 'only' 3 bikes have been stolen in recent years which apparently is not enough to take action. Save your money go elsewhere.

Been going to this gym for many yrs. Disappointed with the current management who behave like dictators. They recently narrowed down the swimminlg lanes within the swimming pool without any consultation or taking any of our remarks in consideration. Did not bother to respond either.Cleaniless is deteriorating. Their focus is simply to increase revenue without worrying about us existing members

Leicester Nuffield. Gym Equipment out of date and out of order on a daily basis. Cold showers due to heating system breaking down and air conditioning non existent. For a premium gym it's a shambles. Nuffield needs to invest in the gym . Plus side staff are great .

I am the member of Nuffield since 2018. After the refurbishment, I have rang the gym and have asked whether the gym is functional and whether I will be able to / or can use cardio equipments. The operator / receptionist on the phone just rushed the whole conversation. I didn't feel very respected, felt very rude and I was very annoyed. Instead of taking the time to answer the query (as all customers are different) and should have been polite, it was other way around. This was a frustrating experience and a bad example of customer services!! As a member of the gym, annually I pay Β£600 (I FEEL LIKE I AM WASTING MY MONEY HERE) so I expect high values, morale , professional attitude and excellent customer services and commitments from all the staffs! Even Pure Gym and Warehouse Gym know how to treat their customers and offer an excellent customer services!!!! SO WHY NOT NUFFIELD??

Initially I was impressed with the cleanliness of the gym but this has deteriorated dramatically. The notices in the shower cubicles asking members not to clear their noses and throats in the cubicles are ignored and recently the pool had to be closed for 3 days. The email from Nuffield explained that "pool rules regarding hygiene and etiquette will be reinforced to avoid future closures" but is not reassuring.

Good gym if and when everything works. They decided to close the jacuzzi as a cost cutting exercise and stated initially it is only a temporary measure. I guess it's not the staff's fault just corporate greed from Nuffield themselves as an entity. They raked all the profit in all this time but as soon as the energy price increase came in they decided not to pass all them years of profit back into the gym. Prices continue to rise but services seem to decrease. They even took the tissue dispenser from toilets for drying hands. It's crazy they haven't gone bust with the amount of people who have cancelled. Generally in the summer the AC doesn't work and in the winter the sauna/steam and hot water for the showers doesn't work for considerable lengths of time. They could definitely do with another smith press rack and hack squat for legs on the gym floor but I have been told they don't really want bodybuilders but want to attract more lifestyle and fitness type of clientele. I rang the other day to ask for a guest pass and they said no even though I have never had one. To be honest I pay a reduced rate because of friends and family discount hence why I am still a member but at full price there's not a chance I would remain a member. I would maybe look at David Lloyd or Bannatynes. More bang for your buck. I hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears.

It's a very good fitness club: Pros: 1. swimming pool compared to pure gym which hasn't got one. Cons: 1. Facilities are not so modern compared to pure gym. 2. It's a bit more expensive than other gyms 3. Showers and toilets need to be revamped because it's worse than public toilet

free day passes are absolute nonsense, they offered a free pass, had me fill out my details etc and said "we are looking forward to seeing you", after a 12 mile car ride we arrived at the front desk and was informed that they arent valid anymore yet they literally have a banner blazened across the front gym saying "try us for free", if the moderator of these reviews is reading this, me and my mother were adamant on getting a full membership for the gym after we had our session, but now because of this absolute lack of professionalism, and horrendous customer service, we are never coming back

Nuffield Leicester is a good place for the gym and relaxing, with a pool, sauna, and steam room. It is reasonably priced for the amenities. However, I would give it one less star because sometimes the staff at the pool are less patient with helping elderly people, things break and take a long time to be fixed, and wet wipes are not replenished when they run out, so you have to go around looking for them. Perhaps the staff could use some more training in patience.

I visit this great gym almost daily and I cannot fault it...... until recently. I visited last night (Monday) and went into the Ladies part to use certain machinery in there. I had to wait for almost every machine I wanted to go on. Not because it was been used, but because Ladies were just sitting on the machinery on their phones, and not actually doing anything else. It was very frustrating. I understand that some people use their phones to watch videos of how to do an excercise but this was not the case. Maybe a notice to ask if your on your phone then do it when your not sitting on a machine. Barbara

With a lot of competition in this industry now, Nuffield is no longer the premium gym it used to be, more premium budget in my opinion and membership prices don't reflect that. Gym snobs will probably tell you otherwise but let me be honest apart from the equipment, the same type of equipment you'd find at budget gym nothing much has changed since it used be called Greens about 15 years ago, it was actually a lot better then. Only if you use the swimming pool and spa facilities regularly do you see real value in your membership. Started a gym membership last year, I admit a really stupid decision and now I have to see out my contract. I'd rather sponsor an orphan through a charity with the money I am paying here. I have only ever been a handful of times and I get far more value at a gym which costs a third of the price. Literally I have no reason to see out my contract except terms and conditions, you just have to Google it to find out how great they are. Still trying to figure out a get out clause for myself.

A gym that has hone down hill over the last couple of years. No jacuzzi, filthy and broken men’s showers, hot water issues with showers almost every month, bad management attitude (esp. the assistant manager), very cold front desk staff, thefts from lockers, i have finally decided to leave this gym and go elsewhere. Positives probably a decent sized car park and swimming pool.

I started using this gym in June this year. I was apprehensive about joining as very self conscious, but feel very comfortable. There are members of varying ages, abilities & fitness levels & staff are always welcoming. Reception staff are friendly & helpful & there are lots of classes to attend. The facilities are always clean & maintained.

It’s ridiculous AC does not work and also the jacuzzi has not been working for 9 months. I asked them when will it be back up and running I have been informed today (27th June) that they will not be fixing it and won’t be used again. The price is far too much and is definitely not worth it. If I could give it zero mark I would. Will be finding a new gym and get better value for money.

It's a great gym. The downside is the cleanliness. And that's not necessary because of the staff, but just people not being considerate of others. There's a great group fitness selection, although I would like more classes in the evenings after 19.00,for those whi work long hours, but I suppose the demand is more in the early hours. Someone was saying that the staff are rude... Personally I didn't have any issues, on the contrary, they've always been nice and helpful. Overall, I would say it's a gym that you need to try and see how you get on. I'm bot giving the full 5 starts just because I am bothered by the level of cleanliness, which I think it's mostly people related, because I do see cleaning staff regularly checking the premises.

We are now in August and the a/c is still not working. With them temperatures getting to 30 degrees plus, it has been impossible to train. No sign of any refunds, which shows they do not care about the members and just want to maximise profits!

I like the fact there is a ladies only gym, the equipment may be a little out of date in there but everything works perfectly fine. The spin classes are awesome, so much fun. The swimming area is always clean, good length swimming pool and it's never really that busy. The staff are lovely, really make you feel like you're being looked after. I’ve never once seen a cleaner in this place, bare in mind I’ve been to plenty of Nuffield gyms around the UK that are a lot less busier than this one yet you can see they maintain the gym and surrounding areas. The water fillers temp out of order and wipes are always a mission to find! Don’t waste your money if this will be your home gym!

A really welcoming atmosphere! Staff are so friendly and always greet me with a smile and a hello, I think that really makes a difference :) They're always more than happy to help with any questions and there's always something fun going on like charity fundraisers and challenges to get involved in.

Easy to park free. Friendly staff. Excellent facilities, gym, health classes, pool, sauna, Jacuzzi etc. Highly recommend.

Swimming Pool temperature is cold, however reception staff are friendly and helpful, unfortunately cars are parked on Disable Bays without displaying the Badge and genuine disabled badge holders cannot park the car there especially in the mornings, but nothing is being done and they should display the warning notice sign also on the entrance reception counters

Really disappointed with Nuffield. Wanted to book in for a simple smear test. Was told I HAD to have a consultation first which was additional cost. Despite this only being a routine test, it seems that it would cost me nearly Β£1000. Will look elsewhere.

Good gym, formerly Greens Gym,with the advantage of having a swimming pool. Also there are loads of Les Mills GrIT, Body Pump, Body Combat, etc classes. Also had a Spin / RPM studio. Sadly no TRX classes though although they do have a couple of TRX straps.

A good gym, it is kept clean all the time. The staff are friendly and the equipment is ok but the cardio machines could do with an update

so this gym is nice clean and got a nice atmosphere. HOWEVER when you arrive you are non existent to the person on the counter. There is only one young man with slightly curly short hair who is happy and makes an effort to say hello. The rest of you what the hell is going on have you not been trained correctly ? do you not like your job if so please leave. Really sad it shows us you don't care about the place and your just collecting a pay check. I signed up and the day later your jacuzzi is closed didn't even inform me of this occurring. I asked the lady and all she said is I can cancel your membership. Great work mate great customer service.

Generally poor, been here for about two years, expensive for what it is. Services get reduced and reduced, first it was sauna that wasn't working, then the AC the whole summer and it was a boiling hot summer, and eventually jacuzzi got removed. At first they lied that they need to get some parts, until they decided to permanently close it due to the costs of running it. My question then would be, why I have to pay in full as as you don't provide the services anymore that I signed up for ? Also increased the price even when reduced the services, total joke. Avoid and go somewhere else.I truly don't understand how greedy you can get, and about staff overall I cannot say anything bad, it's not their fault that, they're polite and friendly

I started my gym about 3 months ago. I joined a 12 week joint pain programme by Brent and sometimes Jamie. Both are excellent in guiding through. This is the first time I have joined the gym but they were very helpful and always there to help. Since I have started I have learned that the gym is for all ages. I feel very confident to use all the facilities there.

I have been going to this gym for a few months now, the staff are really friendly, especially Kirk and Dev - the lifeguards. They always ensure that the poolside is clean and tidy. It is always good to see their friendly faces as they are so approachable.
