Currently has a exhibition of outfits worn in TV series "Gentleman Jack" very good. Lovely building. Will go again.

Very pleasant museum and building. Worth checking out. The fashion exhibits, both the regular one upstairs and the special Gentleman Jack one in the main halls, are wonderful. The Shibden Hall history exhibit is great. The toy section is fun. The military and jubilee exhibits are good, if you're into that. The tea room is nice to be in but the offerings are limited, good cup of tea anyway.

Great free museum, with local history. The Duke of Wellington and Yorkshire Regiment exhibition is very interesting. The costumes from Gentleman Jack are beautiful.

Fascinating collections in an impressive building. Changing displays including fine art exhibitions. Friendly, helpful staff. The shop café serves nice coffees, teas and sweet snacks.

This is a lovely small museum with a fabulous Costume/Fashion gallery. The building itself is lovely, though like many other council owned buildings has suffered from neglect, with signs of a leaky roof and a broken window.

Lovely free museum on the edge of Halifax. The exhibitions include local history, costume, military, textiles, toys, art and jewellery. There's a shop, cafe and toilets in the building. It's located in Akroyd Park and has plenty of free parking.

A stunning example of the wealth and opulence of the mill owners of Halifax. Marble staircases and columns, elaborate painted ceilings, and large entertainment areas. The displays cover a variety of different historical events from Halifax and not just the house.

What a marvellous museum & place to visit. Such an impressive building & an interesting back story. The Gentleman Jack costumes were marvellous & the way in which they were displayed was outstanding. The enlarged photographs as a backdrop were a stroke of genius & photos from the actual set, with the actors wearing the costumes added to the experience. Very well done.

This small museum resides in a once beautiful house and has a varied collection. The areas link to the Duke of Wellington is well highlighted and clearly explained and there are many displays relating to the town's industrial past. Allow about 2 hours to visit if you enjoy reading the exhibits. There is also a cafe on site.

Please visit this museum! FREE ENTRY. It needs our help. It is so difficult to rate somewhere like this when there is so much more potential for the building. Not only a worthy museum (since 1887) but the former home of Edward Akroyd, a local mill owner who also built Akroydon for his employees. Maybe next time I can rate it 4 or 5 stars?

Absolutely gem of a place especially now it's got the costumes on display from Gentleman Jack. Free entry, lovely ligh and airly rooms, friendly helpful staff, nice little cafe selling drinks and cakes and biscuits at very reasonable prices. Coffee was £1.50 per cup.

Absolutely loved our trip to this museum. The history of the Ackroyd family was incredibly interesting, their impact on Halifax is still seen today and is fascinating. Highly recommend a visit.

We spent a rainy afternoon here and it was great, an amazing building inside and out with a wealth of local history and interesting exhibits, my 8 yr old son had fun doing the Bankfield detectives quiz they run for kids and the staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend as it was a favourite of mine when I was a kid too + it's still free entry!!

What an amazing place! The range of exhibits is immense. We spent ages going round all the little rooms, each dealing with a different subject. The little cafe serves excellent tea and biscuits/cakes too. It deserves to be more widely known.

Love This Museum! It's great for the grandchildren. They completed the Detective Trail and were allowed (encouraged!) To try on outfits/hats. You've ensured the children don't think museums are old stuffy and boring. Well Done and Thank You Bankfield.
