You could spend a few hours in this family friendly museum easily. Impressive Victorian Leeds street - it felt you were on a film set. There are also childhood galleries to see toys from the past and large collection of reconditioned original penny slot machines, some of which are still in excellent working order. To bring this all to life they really need to train the staff to interact more - share knowledge. Car park across the road and worth checking ticket options as you can use your Art Pass plus discount for Leeds Residents. The coffee shop has now moved across the road to Kirkstall Abbey. Worth a visit if visiting Leeds.

I was expecting something bigger but I wasn’t disappointed. It’s quite small but absolutely amazing! I visited during the Halloween week and they added so many decorations around the Victorian streets. It was so beautiful! You can enter inside some shops and there are little details everywhere. You really feel like you traveled back in time. Upstairs there’s also a museum about the childhood in Victorian era. It was very interesting and nice!

I totally love this place! This is my first ever museum visit in England and the Abbey House Museum made it really special. I like the story telling that begins at the ground floor(with Victorian times) and then transforms as you go up to the second floor. You see the transition in the way of life of children, families and even music has shaped the Abbey House and it's environs. There are also really cool stuff to learn. 😊

Small yet wonderful museum. Ground floor has range of shops and streets in Victorian era, and upstairs is featured with childhood collections and toys, magazines from 1960s. Staffs are very friendly and helpful

Brilliant gem of a museum. Affordable entry and it's discounted if you're a Leeds resident. Parking is just across the street in a public car park. It takes just over and over, no more than 2 to visit the museum. The victorian streets are fascinating to look at, and very atmospheric. Upstairs there's a penny arcade with vintage machines. It's pocket change to get pennies to use, and a lot of fun. No bad things to say really. The museum is well maintained and one of the upstairs galleries changes exhibitions fairly regularly.

Lovely nostalgic trip back to a museum I last visited as a child. I took my kids during the Easter holiday and we all loved exploring the Victorian streets, shops and alleys. The childhood toys on display in the upstairs galleries brought back plenty of memories as well. Great place to visit and very reasonable entry fees too.

I've visited here a lot over the years. It's suitable for all ages and levels of ability. I particularly love the shops and cobbled streets. Such a nostalgic place to visit.

Small museum set on the corner between the car park opposite and Kirkstall Abbey over the road. Has loos and gift shop, lift to other floors. Café next door with outdoor seating and gardens nearby. Has really good replica streets with shops etc, on a par with York Castle Museum's. You can go into most of the shops, including the pub, but you can't get a beer, ha. All authentic artefacts and plenty of them. The fascinating shops are really well done and interesting, best part of the museum. Upstairs there are toys; dolls houses; old penny arcade machines that are mostly still operational; embroidery samplers and, if it's your thing - a chopped off elephant's foot made into a footstool and a skinned tiger and other assorted taxidermy. Gross, not my bag, walked through that section very quickly. But the streets are great and the staff are oh so friendly and helpful. Recommended if you want to become a time traveller and experience the days of yore.

An atmospheric and authentic experience of Victorian Leeds that leaves you with moments wondering if you haven't been snatched back in time. One common omission across multiple British heritage sites is the historical interplay of different world nations to British history. British history didn't unfold in and of itself alone. The ancient, Roman, Tudor African presence in Leeds, York, Hull.... for example isn't clearly present across museums and heritage sites. If massive pieces of history are obliterated, everyone is getting a partial story. As a person of African Caribbean descent who grew up in Leeds and now in my middle ages, yes there are improvements but my visit yesterday reinforced a sense of absence from history, once again, as atmospheric and well restored and depicted this site definitely is.

Charming, immersive and really amusing! I especially loved the advertising exhibition. You can easily spend an hour here, if not two.

Surprised of the size and information available, the preservation is incredible, even the old street smells you can sense as you pass at certain street, the kids where educated. I definitely recommend and would go back.

This place made me think of the York Museum, which is one of my favourite museums in the UK. Loved every second I spent here and I will definitely recommend it to anyone that enjoys a walk through history.

Lovely historical street settings just a few miles from the city centre. Also handy for a fascinating look round the Abbey ruins across the road. Good sized free car park next to the museum

I had completely forgotten how lovely this attraction is. Great for all ages and abilities as it's full of lots of toys , interactive areas , and lots to look at. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The toilets and exhibitions are clean and looked after, some look a little tired. Looking forward to returning when the new exhibition opens. I visited with 2x3 year olds and a 2 year old and they were fully engaged. I have not given full 5 stars, as there is potential for it to get a whole lot better when the dressing up area reopens. The car park is across the road from the museum, next to a playground. Of course there is also the abbey to explore too.

Loved the ground floor of the building - Very nicely done. However, we didn’t quite enjoy the first floor. (Personal opinion, of course). But in general, the place is worth visiting and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Visited on a miserable drizzly afternoon with our almost 3 year old grandson. We hadn't been to the museum since we'd taken our own children and were really impressed. Our grandson loved the old street with shops and the 'old' toys in the display cabinets upstairs. He couldn't understand why he couldn't have them out to play but thankfully there are plenty of interactive areas and he was easily distracted. His favourites however were the old slot machines, he loves skeletons and anything ghoulish !!! The staff were great, really helpful and informed and actually seemed to enjoy their job which was refreshing. As grandparents, often stuck for things to do on a miserable day, we made a good choice 😀

Interesting reconstruction of England a few centuries ago. Close to Kirkstall Abbey but the connection is not clear. Its seems a time machine.

Kids found it quite boring. We went here during half term as a rainy day activity. The kids were excited at the prospect of seeing and playing with lots of old toys. In reality there was a small amount of brio train track in a corner and a few coin operated machines (pay extra for these). It wasn't massively expensive to get in, but we were only there for 45 minutes before we had been around it all. Not a great place for young children.

We really enjoyed our visit. The shops were interesting and provoked interesting conversation. The exhibits took us back in time. Videos were excellent and well worth watching. A little snap shot in Leeds gone by around every corner. Educational and fun. Please support this fabulous museum. Great value for money too.

Great family afternoon out, fun exploring the Victorian streets and putting the old pennies in the old games. Spent a good couple of hours, then enjoyed fab coffee and cake before a walk around the abbey itself

Interesting place. The Victorian street is very informative whist the penny slots upstairs give this venue an element of fun.

Words cannot do this place justice. We walked into a Victorian street to begin with, and were met with curiosities belonging to a different age. It was magical, wondrous, romantic even. It was an experience more than a 'museum'. It would be enriching to go again because there was so much to see.

We had an amazing time. The Chinese new year trail was fun. Unfortunately our grand daughter fainted. The staff were brilliant from getting us into the quiet and cool, sorting a first aider and making sure she had a drink. Thank you so much. Will be back.

Fabulous place I love it, stepping back in time to Victorian Leeds. Good with kids because it doesn’t take too long. Good choice of food in the cafe too, basic but tasty. They didn’t have trays for the high chairs. Lots of vegan / dairy free cake options.

Very lovely place, especially for walks or other activities. We've went there to see Santa's trail and kids were happy. At the end we've visited the gift shop we're we were asked to put our face coverings on and to use hand sanitiser. Also you have to use a "track and trace" NHS app. Unfortunately the cafe shop was closed, but you can get there hot and cold drinks to take away tho.
