Colne Valley Museum is a fascinating visit. It has working looms, a cobbler, artist installation and amazingly passionate volunteers. Definitely worth a visit . All the volunteers are a wealth of knowledge.

What an absolute delight. I visited with my son (4) and my nephew (11) who were treated beautifully by the staff. The working parts of the museum, kitchen, spinning room and clog shop, were all in full swing, this really added to the experience. A wonderful step back in time, to a Yorkshire cottage industry that highlights how much the whole world has changed, for better and for worse. It would be remiss of me not to also mention the cafe. The cafe, unlike at so many attractions, has a sedate old world pace about it that requires you to relax. It provided us, at not too much cost, some very lovely cakes and an opportunity to reflect. All in all a champion half day that I will be repeating.

Museum totally run by volunteers. Only person to get paid is the cleaner! My favourite bits were the weaving looms, the spinning Jenny and the clogs. Learnt some interesting things on the way round. Everyone was dressed up in period costume and they hold events throughout the year. Coffee and cake available. Park down the street at Town End Parking. Unless you like hair raising drives don’t follow Google map instructions. Stick to the slightly more main roads.

Didn't seem like much from the entrance but for a small museum, the experience was good and less stressful compared to big ones. The people were passionate and able to give good explanations of how things worked back then. Took about an hour to complete (without rush) Thought it was just for the kids to see how things used to be and how textiles, shoes and battles were fought but I ended up enjoying the experience too. I was concerned it was going to be cash only but they also accept cards without any issues at all.

Fantastic little museum. Lots to see and interact with for adults and children. Volunteers very engaging and extremely knowledgeable. We were expecting it to be a short visit but we were here for a couple of hours at least! Sadly ran out of time to try some cake in the cafe but it looked lovely. If you're taking very little ones, avoid bringing a pram - the layout involves lots of up and down steep stairs!

A gem of a museum. Based in 2 cottages portraying the life of weavers and clog makers in the first half of the 19th century. Staffed by volunteers in period dress who are all knowledgeable. With the added attraction of 2 working handlooms! 😁

An astonishing place. Anyone with any interest in historical weaving should run, not walk, to this lovely little museum. Staff all knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the looms! THE LOOMS! proper, working looms from before industrialisation, being worked by skilled artisans to produce proper, English tweed, if you'd asked me, I'd have said it didn't exist. I've signed up to be a vounteer, this place is a rare, rare gem.

Loved this visit. So interesting to taken back onto the past experiencing the lives of those in the kitchen and those who were toiling away making cloth. Well worth the visit. And the wee tea roo. Looked fab though we spend so much time talking to the workers we missed it! Needs another trip..or two!

Interesting museum and very dedicated and skilled guides. They demonstrated all the processes of making textiles, through to the weaving. We also saw clog making. And we walked through all the rooms where the workers had lived. This was even more interesting than we had hoped for.

Very informative local history museum, showing the life and work of weavers and clog makers at the beginning of the 20th century. Lovely tea room and gift shop. Toilets on site. The volunteers in traditional costumes are incredibly entertaining and knowledgeable. Commissioned cloth is still made on site using their own pattern.

I attended a concert here and before it started, my friend and I decided to have a wander around the museum. Julie and a gentleman whose name I didn't get were particularly interesting and enthusiastic giving us demonstrations of the machines. The clog room was a sight to behold! Also all the staff downstairs in the cafe and shop were just as lovely. The fact that they volunteer makes them all the more brilliant.

Excellent... Friendly warm welcome and a chance to learn about Huddersfield's industrial history followed by homemade cake in the coffee shop. Happy 50th anniversary!

The museum has rebounded splendidly after COVID. They have volunteers demonstrating clog making and weaving, and they describe the lives and items of the cottage tenants very well.

Fabulous, quirky 'little' museum. Spinning, weaving, clogmaking. Tiny tearoom with smashing cake. A must visit if you are within a 2hr drive.

Tea room smashing. Pot of tea this time. The Ladies were dressed in the fashions associated with those bygone days the museum now stands for. Well done to them on such a scorchio day.😁 as "Arnie" once said, "I'll be back"

Lovely museum. We did not realise it was a 'living museum' so it was great to be shown and told about the exhibits and technology. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. A great community spirit vibe was given. Toilets very clean, entry price very reasonable and good value gifts. Great for children and our daughter was involved and engaged by the staff at the different exhibits so she did not feel left out and bored. Thanks

πŸ‘πŸ‘ A great day out, plenty to explore loads of great scenery to view throughout the park. Would strongly advise that correct footwear is worn like wellies or walking shoes/boots. As in some areas, it can get rather muddy, I'm yet to fully explore this amazing park, but what I have explored so far has s...
