Interesting free museum in Ravensknowle Park, on the edge of Huddersfield. There was good exhibitions about the suffragettes and the First World War. It's got a shop, cafe and plenty of free parking. In my opinion, it's best suited to older children and adults.

Well-maintained Council run free museum. Downstairs area has a good WW1 exhibition and some old vehicles. Upstairs an excellent bit on Huddersfield during the stoneage and Roman period decked out with trees inside! Free car parking onsite and small playground nearby. Good for 1.5-2 hrs.

Impressive motor section and interesting world war one exhibits and history of Huddersfield. Didn't see upstairs as it was closed but still worth the visit. It's free too. A shame it's being relocated to the town centre.

Excellent museum, I particularly liked the transport section, coffee machine behind reception so you can order a tea or coffee and go sit and drink it, friendly staff too. Free entry, but you can donate if you can/wish.

What a wonderful place. Perfect on a rainy day, or not, with lots of different displays to keep all ages interested. Light refreshments available and a small gift shop. All for free but please make a donation to enable this brilliant educational venue open for many years to come.

Superb little gem of a museum which takes you on a whistle-stop journey of local history from the paleolithic period onwards with evidence from the local area as a constant source of reference. The journey finishes in the industrial and modern periods and is completed with an interesting assemblage of transport from different time periods. Those little touches such as Enoch's hammer and the Tolson half pig, make it even more memorable.

Likeable council run (I assume) museum explaining the history of the area, and contains a transport museum featuring information about transport services in the area over the last century and some vehicles too. The local school kids obviously visit and there was some of their work adorning the walls in the drinking area. Endearing and good to see these places are put to good use. Some small snacks and drinks are available from the front counter, no specific cafe but a sizeable room with tables and chairs is set aside to sit in. Toilets available elsewhere in the building. The front desk sites inside the foyer and was managed by friendly staff who also prepared drinks on request. Admission is free and the building itself has some lovely architecture as does the accompanying building. Car access was easy and a fair sized car parking area which was also free.

What a fantastic place to visit, packed full with history and hundreds of fascinating things to enjoy. Lots of information and exhibits on display, mainly from the local Huddersfield area, but also covering further afield too. Spread over two floors with lots to see. Extremely interesting and informative with many exhibits displayed in an easy to follow timeline format. The last time I visited the museum was back in the 70s and some of it still seemed familiar! A wonderful way to spend time and learn lots of things about lots of things connected to Huddersfield, ranging from the Roman settlements, the connections to the industrial revolution, the woollen industry and many, many more. Well worth a visit, would definitely recommend it.

A cool little museum in beautiful grounds, looks small from the outside but has loads of things to see and learn about. Nice little cafe and gift shop. Lots of interactive displays and a few little play points for kids. Some great photo opportunities too.

We were performing there but the staff were excellent and looked after us and our needs. I did buy a few items from the shop as well. Had a quick walk around. No problems whatsoever. Would I go back? Yes.

Lovely place surprised it wasn't busier, one downside is that it's fairly small.

The 4 boys loved the museum with the exploration bags. What a great idea. The ladies at reception wete lovely and friendly , nothing was too much for them. Thankyou. This place is perfect for a free day out. Only issue was the pagoda was full of broken glass and not fit to go in, such a shame. Gift shop is reasonable so we all came home with a treasure. Definitely visit again and again x

Excellent place to bring the grandchildren, always something to fascinate them. The Easter crafts workshop was superb. Would be good if there were a few more snacks available to purchase, maybe sandwiches. Coffee is very good. Staff are helpful and friendly.

Welcome to Huddersfield. This is one of the best place to spend spring and summer with kids in Huddersfield. The place is easy to reach because it is situated next to the main road. Visitors can enjoy playing on the grass or visiting museum at designated time. Kids can enjoy some stuffs at the playground next to this building.

We love going here as a family. It's even better now the bird room is back open! It's all one way at the moment but it works well.

Excellent museum that offers free entry. Lots to see. Located in Ravensknowle park at the Wakefield road entrance in moldgreen/ dalton. The building once a gentleman’s residence , has very imposing look. Very grand. Sits in grounds/recreational area of around seven acres. Offers free parking. Which is a plus. Also has disabled access.

Great place. My kids were scared of some section of the museum, but were excited at the Transport museum section and wonderfully the playgrounds. Fantastic place, the kids really had fun.

Love this museum! Not many places you can visit for free these days, well...for a donation if you want to leave one! The kids have been many times but always love to visit again and again! I used to go as a child and I love the whole set up. The little gift shop is perfect and suits all budgets! I'm lucky my son and niece are still happy with a pound skeleton toy! Lol. Just a lovely afternoon out for the kids - followed by the park at the back.

An absolute gem. Anyone interested in history, particularly local history, should make the time to stop and look around. The added bonus of having a lovely play park in the grounds will not be lost on parents, regardless of their kids ages. An absolute must for all.
