This is a small museum located in Monkgate Bar and concerns itself with Richard III who had a lot of association with York and the surrounding area. There are exhibits about the nearby Battle of Towton, where he fought with his brother defeating the Lancastrian Forces, as well as the less successful (for Richard III!) Battle of Bosworth. Richard III also had associations with both Middleham and Sheriff Hutton castles due to marriage (both of these are still intact). The museum is part of the Jorvik Group so you can take advantage of packages that allow access into other museums such as Bartley Hall, Dig, the Henry VII exhibition and the Jorvik Centre.

Interesting, go to the top first and work your way down for the history to make sense.

Nice, but not amazing.I really wanted to score this so much higher, but it's just too small. It left me wanting more. What they have is excellent and a nice helpful member of staff. But as I said it's to small for my choice. Its two little rooms with some good exhibits. It is worth a visit, but not just for this. Take a walk along the walls and have a good look around. I recommend you also get the Jorvik group passport that includes entrance to here and other places of interest..

Spent about 1hr and 30min here, could've spent longer as there's some interesting games and interactive items at the top of the exhibition. It's very hands on kids and adults got to try on helmets and touch everything on show. This exhibition is not wheelchair friendly and there are no toilets which we could see. Also the stairs are steep so if you have people who get nervous in regards to heights, I'd make sure you go at less busy times. The walk along the wall after your visit is a must. Very nice views and plenty of Bench's to sit and relax on nice days.

Good place to visit, althoun if like me and youre not good with small spaces or stairs you may struggle as the stairs are steep and the space is compact, they even have a horrible history tent to explain things to children

It's a tower at one of Yorks gate house (Monks Bar) Three floors and the steps are mediaeval so you have to be careful when climbing them. It's a hand on exhibition so you can pick up the helmets, the clothes and anything that's not glued down and try them on, play with them. I would suggest you get the pass (£8) or the passport (£20) if you're going to see more of Yorks attractions as it gives you a much better value for money.

Quite a small exhibit really. Some decent things to see, a small prison where you can put the cuffs on and take a picture. Some helmets to try on and a short but fun little board game to play. Some interesting videos and a real human skeleton. I think king Richard 3rds story wasn't all that interesting really. He only ruled for a few years though his brothers story was maybe more interesting. Still an ok place to spend half an hour and see a few things

If you have an interest in R3 then this place is worth a visit. It's now £5 to get in but there is some interesting stuff in here and if you read it all you could be here for over an hour! Much better value than Clifford's Tower which has a higher admission charge with less to see!

A small museum but it is very much worth a visit. We bought a "pastport" from the Jorvig Viking Centre, meaning that we had free entry here. Please beware that there were many uneven steps and tight staircases but it you can make it up there, you are welcomed by a prison cell which really makes you feel sorry for whoever was put in there and many other interesting things. There was a small gift shop at the entrance/exit and the staff there were very welcoming and informative. Again, this is a very small place but has some great items like various helmets and a full suit or armour along with replica item of Rich. When we left, we walked along the city walls which was fab. One of the great places in York to visit. Must see!
