Disappointing is an understatement, is it a gallery? A cafe? What? Hardly any information (some information which is completely incorrect), no direction, no categories, just abit of everything everywhere. I completely understand that "Art" is subjective, however photograghs of what you will find in any cookbook on the walks is hardly engaging. A very poor attempt at an art gallery. I did happen to find some amazing pieces however some had posters dotted in front of them and some are shoved in the museum. One painting in particular is "Icarus falling on bury job centre" a beautiful painting by local artist Maggie Lea. No information about the painting? What it represents to the artist? Nothing! Then again that follows with every painting in there. Down in the apparent museum if you can dare call it that? Feels like you are stepping into a trendy phone shop. Graffiti littering the walls, again little if no direction, no information. I would love to know why the extremely small cupboard under the stairs has been given to Sir Robert Peel, I would have thought learning about a famous priminister would have been front of stage??? you would probably learn more reading the information dotted on the walls in the Peel pub. Actually the pub has more content and information about his younger years, his years in politics, where he lived etc. Non of which found where you'd expect to see it. The items on exhibit are some what intriguing although there is no information to why they are there, no story again and I'm starting to feel like a broken record.... no nothing. You can walk in and walk out without learning anything new. Bury has a tremendously rich history! We have a castle! The dig of which used to be exhibited years ago and now has disappeared??? We have statues commissioned by famous sculptures. We have had inventors of revolutionary mechanical engineering. The Whitehead family history alone could fill that tiny room. Bury art gallery and museum, give your head a wobble and do better because what you currently trying to exhibit is dull, uninteresting and a smear on what once a brilliant Art gallery and museum.

Small museum with big ideas, some brilliant contemporary exhibitions in the past with a mix of new, upcoming and established artists. Some works you'll love, some you won't - that's art, but with an ever changing programme of exhibitions and events there's bound to be something you'll enjoy.

On a recent shopping trip we decided to have a walk around the back streets of Bury. We then came across the museum and art gallery. It's not full of exhibits but it's got some interesting ones nevertheless. The little tea room looked very nice as well. We might try this on another visit 🤗

Really nice gallery space, friendly welcoming staff, we had a nice chat with Martin. The cafe looked great but had closed early. Don't forget to look for the Victoria Wood statue outside.

The museum is such a beautiful building. The 70/80s exhibition was interesting and brought back memories. It was good to see the permanent artwork. The tearoom was lovely. I will definitely be returning.

We went specifically to look at the Bury Photographic Society exhibition. We live locally and visit most months and use the local history section in the basement. We are quite attached to the place and feel a sense of belonging.

A really sweet little art gallery with some lovely pieces. The staff are friendly and the tea shop is lovely. The shop is pretty expensive, but no more than you'd expect at this kind of place. Lots of activities going on for kids so well worth a visit.

Nice couple of hours for a mooch round. Some interesting pieces to see and a cafe on the first floor. Roadside parking is available very close by (small charge) and this is opposite the Fusilier’s museum also. There are events on regularly so worth checking social media and the website for updates. Right in the town centre and very accessible from Bury Interchange.

Nice place, I took a service user with dementia and we had a wander round. It has some interesting things to look at although it is a bit sparse. The museum bit downstairs is good, there is a bit more to look at there. I have nothing to complain about though as it is free. The cafe is very nice and worth popping in to.

Such a smorgasbord of art! Brilliant exhibitions of a variety of topical and historical art, and everything in between. Fab art and vintage fairs. Beautifully stocked gallery and shop. Oh and the café, great food, drinks and service. Well worth lots of visits!

Enjoyed learning more about Victoria Wood, but found many of the exhibits hard to read, either because they were in poor light, or too low for older people to read.

Not much to see. Quite a few family pictures donated by the local gentry presumably to show how important their family is.

Well worth a visit… some lovely artwork and an interesting section on local history. I must have been engrossed as when I left I totally forgot my mobile phone. Steve, who works at the museum found it and went out of his way to trace me and return it. All in all, a great experience.

Absolutely loved this museum. It was set over several levels and was soooo interesting. Loads of local history (very interesting). Plenty of local artwork for sale. I actually purchased some. Beautiful building. Definitely well worth a visit.

Lovely museum. Not as much as I expected but had some interesting displays. Some of the rooms felt a bit empty, I suppose I expected more artwork. What was there was good. Great gift shop.

Fantastic didactic experience. Such variety of artefacts. Enthusiastic staff to direct you to different displays. Cafe was good and the cakes were enjoyable. Architecturally the museum is spacious and a great backdrop to contemporary and historical displays. A revelation.

It was my first time in an Art Museum. I was there filming for the day, but it was incredible and I loved looking at all the paintings, especially 'The Cruel Sister' that had me gripped for some reason. Think I might take my family along.

Superb municipal art gallery on two floors in Bury the main part of the gallery houses the Wrigley collection put together by a local Victorian industrialist this collection is impressive with a Turner and a Constable among the collection, look for the Orientalist painting of a moor about to pray in a mosque it's the best painting in the collection as far as I'm concerned the moor is dressed in purple robes outstanding. Also a large painting of Charles I sailing down the river in all his finery with members of his court with swans gliding by. As you reach the first floor a charming cafe is there with sandwiches soup and cake and drinks available. The other main room of the art gallery is given over to modern art I love modern art just as much as I like the rest of art. The trouble is Vincent van Gogh, Picasso, Salvador Dali and many other artists from the past look more modern than most of today's artists that's why I think modern art is a misnomer that should not be used. Anyhow the trouble with the modern art on the first floor and downstairs in the misleadingly named sculpture gallery is that it's all conceptual art so far removed from the public's perception of art that most ordinary people who come to see it will be very disappointed I like all types of art but the art that has been displayed in these modern galleries has been of very poor quality designed to attract the arty crowd in Bury not the general public which as far as I'm concerned is a misuse of public funds municipal art galleries are publicly funded so the general public has access to art not to attract a infinitesimal part of the population. Stick to the Wrigley collection on the first floor and ignore the rest there is a small shop on the ground floor. Recommended for the Wrigley collection and the cafe.

A small art museum but a great way to pass some time! The staff are welcoming and well informed about the artwork found here. I went while the yearly art competition was on and got to see lots of different pieces from a range of artists and I handed in my vote of which piece of art struck me the most. I hope my vote reaches the artist and they can take something away from it!

I went to Bury Art Museum specifically to see the Victoria Wood exhibition. It was absolutely fantastic. It's only a couple of rooms, but they're packed with memorabilia from throughout her career, and there are excellent packs of information explaining what each exhibit is. It was so moving to see some of my favourite Victoria Wood scenes and sketches written in her own hand. I'll definitely be back because I'm sure to have missed something. And while I'm there, I'll definitely take in more of the museum. Oh, and the gift shop is a little gem!

Although is a small attraction, the art on offer is quite beautiful, and the Gallery is a nice place to spend an hour or so. Two shops are available - with some nice works of art to purchase (albeit a bit pricey). The Pandemic closed the Tea Room, but hopefully it will reopen shortly.
