My 7 year old daughter and i just visited the museum on a Thursday in half term, we expected it to be very busy but it wasn't, we entered straight away. My daughter absolutely loves the police force so this has been on our list for quite some time but the opening times made it tricky, its only open on Tuesdays then sometimes Thursdays during school holidays (you can check the Facebook page). She loved trying on the different uniforms and seeing the police bikes (no other vehicles, we thought there would be a car). We collected our tickets to the court room as we entered, and what fun she had in there, called to the stand to be a witness as a little pig against the big bad (very funny) wolf! We then made our way down to the cells where we met a lovely volunteer who talked with her and answered all her questions and then to the charge desk to be shown different equipment the force have used through time to the present day. The museum is only small but we were there for 1hr 30m and she loved it. One of the best teams of volunteers we have come across, everyone we interacted with were lovely and insightful! Theres a little gift shop at the exit where she upgraded some of her costume pieces, not overpriced either like they usually are. I will add we were very pleased to see our manx symbol on the treasure hunt sheet

A detailed and wonderfully preserved police station, complete with prisoner cells, interrogation rooms, forensic offices, seized weapons and other assorted nasty implements. Plenty of police history to last a while. Great for the kids to see. A real gem in the heart of Manchester, run by a dedicated crew of police and ex police who obviously love their work. It was great to see the small criminal court room on the top floor (which is unique in having 2 separate witness boxes for police and public). A completely separate exit for the magistrate, which leads out of the station totally independently of any paths through the station. I highly recommend coming here as it is a totally understated museum to visit.

Brilliant day out with the kids and free to enter. You can't book tickets in advance, you just turn up, they are only open on a Tuesday so took a while for us to make the time to come but it was worth it. Few little bits in the shop to buy and not expensive. Brilliant day all round

This museum is brilliant. Really interesting and informative with some fantastic knowledgeable staff (all ex-policemen). What a shame it only opens one day a week! If you happen to be in Manchester on a Tuesday, then this is a 'must do' experience.

The police Musuem was brilliant. Free to everyone has court room on main top floor. Not far from hidden Plannet. Open tue term term and thur on school holidays. Loads of fun things to do kids learn about facts about. How the police work what they wore and what equipment used. Can desss up as a police officer. Draw pictures. Go in the cells see what they where like. Take lots of pictures with different displays. Even though police men had lots of experience some of them made it funny for my kids saying they lock my kids up over night 🤣 and another stated there a lion in the building as my son dressed in his lion rain proof coat 🤣

Very interesting Museum. It's mostly only open on a Tuesday and is run by volunteers, who are very helpful and informative. There's lots to see, including the old police cells, old uniforms, and police equipment. Some pretty terrifying weapons also on display that have been confiscated over the decades.

An interesting museum to visit - my 7 yr s old boy loves it! It is not very big so an hour was enough for us. Plenty of car parks (private) within walking distance.

The children loved it. They got arrested, went in a prison cell , and tried on the police uniform. There was so much more . I would recommend the police museum. There is no charge to enter.

Such a fantastic little gem. The staff here are what make it so excellent. They're so knowledgeable and approachable. My kids are quite shy but always leave this place beaming after the chats and learning they've had (now age 9 and 14) Fascinating for adults as well of course! They do mock trials in the courtroom for the kids during holidays which sound brilliant.

I've been wanting to go here for years. I first went on a school trip in the early 80s. I remember having my fingerprints taken. I really enjoyed it! It's a small museum, but I still managed to spend over an hour there. There's a small shop on the way out, and everything is low priced, unlike other museum shops. I definitely recommend a visit. The people who volunteer there have amazing knowledge, and they're happy to tell you all the history from the Peelers to today's modern policing.

Free entry and a ton to see. The staff is super nice and was more than happy to talk with us about their experiences as a police officer and what there is to see in the museum. Plus, hats and jackets to try on

This has definitely been one of my highlights in Manchesterso far! Open on a Tuesday from 10-2pm. The staff are past police officers and are so chatty and accommodating! From uniforms to bikes, a police booth, and the courtroom upstairs, we had such a great morning!

It was interesting but we had to wait over an hour to get in. Wouldn't be one of my first choice of museums in Manchester.

Went to the police museum thinking we wouldn't be there long. Two hours later we came out. Very interesting place for children and adults and it's free. (Did give donation though) The staff are so friendly and have some great stories to tell of their time in the force. Definitely worth a visit.

Loved this museum! Really interesting and great as a lot if it is local history. I wasn't aware of it's existence up until a few years ago. Hands down I would rate this above Manchester’s two main museums (MOSI and Manchester Museum). It may not be as big, but had a lot more to offer. The staff are really welcoming and full of knowledge. Will go back again, so as I have longer to browse, as it closes at 3:30pm and not 4pm as Google says

This was a great experience, the guide was great, very knowledgeable and friendly and enjoyed showing us around...I can't remember his name unfortunately but he also volunteers at the football musuem :) it has everything From old police box's, uniforms, weapons, offices etc and the history of strangeways, police history and do much more. There was also prison cells to explore & upstairs they have the Old Denton Court House... I would definitely recommend this. Took roughly an hour and a half. On exit there is a little shop with souvenirs etc. The final pic will give reference to where on the street it is, the bird mural is just across the road. It does have to be booked in advance and only open certain days

Really interesting little museum with lots of stories and artefacts that bring to life the history of policing in Manchester. The cells and the courtroom in particular were fascinating. The volunteers were excellent and were a mine of information on the exhibits. Definitely worth spending an hour or two there!

An Absolute Brilliant afternoon spent with ex police officers, Guiding us around the police museum. All very helpful and informative, ideal for all ages it's a must visit, held in a former police station with a lot of history and artifacts.

The Greater Manchester Police Museum is a former police station converted into a museum and archives detailing the history of policing in Greater Manchester, England. It was home to Manchester City Police and then its successors Manchester and Salford Police and Greater Manchester Police from 1879 until 1979. Upon its conversion to a museum in 1981 the interior was redesigned to reflect its past and now serves as a reminder of Victorian policing. The building was Grade II listed in 1994 as Former Newton Street Police Station. Located on Newton Street in Manchester's Northern Quarter it is a short walk away from Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly railway station.

Been to Manchester lots of times but first time here due to only opening to the public on a Tuesday. Interesting free musuem with added bonus of guides being ex police officer's. You can go into the original cells or upstairs to the courtroom. Well worth a visit if you are around the area. 5 minute walk from Piccadilly gardens.

Brilliant museum. Really good insight into police work in the last few countries until the modern time. Fine collection of equipment and the building itself is a genuine police station and courthouse. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Well worth to spend an hour here.

Only open on a Tuesday. The building dates back to 1800s and is a great piece of social history with original items, cells and courtroom. Also very knowledgeable and helpful staff, who are all volunteers. Well worth a visit; it's free but give a donation for it's upkeep.

Attended the “beyond all reasonable doubt” presentation yesterday evening in the courtroom at the museum, unsure what to expect but throughly enjoyed it, very informative, interesting facts portrayed and presented on four crimes that resulted in the death sentence from the 1950’s/1960’s. Allan was amazing telling us all about them, all from memory and made it very enjoyable to listen to,then as the jury we gave our input to decide if we found the defendant guilty or not guilty. I would definitely recommend a trip to the museum and booking on this presentation in the future, all the staff was very friendly especially Allan who shows great passion and knowledge in his role as a volunteer. Looking forward to the next one!

This was a fascinating museum to visit with some friends, where we were welcomed at the entrance by a guide! He was very interactive and talked to us in proper detail during the first two rooms, including talking about the separate police forces that are shown on a map. Many interesting exhibits are present, such as former police uniform, dangerous weapons, police bikes and valuables! Another guide took us through the court that almost seemed like it was still running, an area that is equalled by the fancy dress part.

"Police" when we hear this word, there is usually negative connotation attached in our minds. Anyway, after visiting this facility, I was just amazed. What an engaging museum. The former police officers met there were absolutely passionate about the work they did, their presentations were notable and objectives displayed there were distinctive in nature. It's not a day to day museum. As it is related to police and so called baddies in our society, it's an interesting space to drop in on.

Popped into the Police Museum yesterday and it was brilliant! Interesting exhibits and all of the staff were interesting and friendly. There were quite a few kids as it’s half term and they all seemed to be having a great time. Highly recommended.

Great museum. Especially liked the guy that talked about all the old weapons vs new ones and why they sacked off the old ones. Loved seeing the courtroom and cells where it shows peoples height/figures and why they got sent there. My bfs fav part was seeing all the variety like helmets. We both also really enjoyed all the stories of different cases and weapons people used etc. The day we went police officers came with drones which was cool and also a recruitment call centre which was very insightful for my bf and realised he could save money as they would pay for his uni. Very good experience with friendly staff. 100% recommend and to top it off, it's free, what more could you want for a lil day out.

Great place. I’ve walked past it loads of times but it’s always been closed and today we had the chance to go in. Lots of history and even lots of local history inside. Staff are super informative. Great way to spend an hour. You really need to speak with the staff or you could be in and out in a few mins and not really learn anything. The staff really do have some great stories and information.

Very fun and informative place for kids and adults. Parking is a bit of a hassle being in town but the museum is free so that's a plus. They do dinky detective sessions for under 5s every few weeks. My son's enjoyed this. Would visit again when they're older and more interested in the rest of the museum!
