One of the greatest Gothic abbeys North of France. The level of preservation is superb and the staff was very friendly when asking questions. The grounds were very clean and we were able to see the entirety of the tourists areas. On my visit I did the tower climb (IT IS A LOT OF STAIRS) was well worth it. The views of your from the top were breathtaking and painted a nice visual of the surrounding area. I hope to return for a service when I'm back in the area.

Beautiful venue for a wedding or a party. I don't know if they hire it for such events, but simply stunning

Located in the beautiful museum gardens, St Mary's Abbey ruins are truly stunning. You can immerse yourself in your imagination of how beautiful and peaceful St Mary's Abbey would have been in its heyday. I'd like to explore the museum on my next visit to find out more about the history of this architectural beauty. A must for anyone who loves architecture and history.

The ruins of the Abbey are near the Museum gardens and it's picturesque even in it's current state.

It must have been a magnificent church building though it is in ruins now.

What A Landmark Of England With Most of Its Heritage Left Still Standing In The Present Day ... This Is A Great Reminder How Time Has Evolved From The Medieval Era... This Place Is Very Popular But Equally Its Very Spacious And Lots Of Features If Your Into History... This Place Shuts at 6 pm And Is A Paranormal Heaven Due To It's Location... I Really Don't Understand How This Place Isn't Used For Private Ghost Events 👻🔥💯.. The Ghost Culture Here Is Amazing With Ghost Walks And Many Different Gift shops.. York Knows How To Look After It's Heritage 👻😜👍 This Place Is One Of England's Most Haunted Towns 👍💯

Free admission, along with the other highlights of Museum Gardens, certainly worth a visit.

Situated within the museum grounds, and free to access, what this site lacks are information boards on the history of the ruins, and why they are ruins. Which is somewhat ironic given where they are!

A lovely peaceful spot in the heart of a busy city. In good weather, take your sandwiches and sit on one of the walls of the ruined abbey (but take your rubbish away with you)!

This may be my favorite place in York. Stunning site of the old abbey St. Mary's Abbey is situated in a lovely area. Not much remains of the Abbey itself, except some parts of a couple of walls and plenty of rocks. The gardens are beautiful and they make for a lovely picnic spot!

Ruins of this historic abbey may be visited in the grounds of the Yorkshire Museum. Quite a lot of the church remains, as well as foundations of orher buildings. Nice views to river & Minister.

Nice garden and ruins of St.Mary's Abbey. In my opinion, this place shows you the contrast with well-preserved York cathedral. It makes you think about the value of conservation of the historic buildings.
