Had a fantastic day. The historic areas comes to life through the people in character telling stories of how people lived at specific times. Well worth becoming a friend if your thinking which tickets to choose. The 10% discounts pay back the small extra cost, such as food, fish n chips, bakery, cafe, old sweet shop, gift shop etc. If you are a carer then you go free with the person you care for. Dogs are allowed if controlled and well behaved. We will visit again later in the year and hopefully enjoy the same weather and experience seeing all the many attractions. You do need reasonable weather as many areas are outdoors. We went in the week which can have children from schools. For me this made the experience better especially listening to them joining in an old school type lesson, reciting maths times table. Last point, would be a great experience if you take parents/ grandparents. They will no doubt have stories to share that they will relate to with the many exhibits. Lots of ride options, trams buses on regular route to help with getting around. The museum is still expanding so more to come.

What a magnificent experience! Went with my wife and 11 year old son. The attention to detail is terrific and the transport around the area is vintage tram and bus. There is building work expanding the site but that is immediately forgiven due to the varied displays. I love that the ticket lets me come back throughout the year and I didn't feel ripped off buying things in the shops. I will bring the dog back too and enjoy the scenery.

Fantastic day out, I’d recommend buying you ticket online as it’s chapter and you walk straight in without queuing. The museum is simple to navigate as it’s based on a loop so you can explore it easily with busses and trams coming very 20 minutes, but it takes a few minutes to walk to each area. The queuing for food is ridiculously bonkers. Be prepared to wait for an hour and up to 1.5 hours for the sweet shop. Top tip! Buy food about 1130 and there are no wait times and head to the sweet shop as the museum opens or closes. You think you are nearly at the front and the one person standing in line calls their friends and another 8 people join them! I’m impressed blemish keep growing their collection and whether you have a day planned for young kids, a dog walk or to soak up the old buildings then this has it all. Talk to the staff as they are incredibly knowledgeable. It’s a long walk but there really wheelchair busses You can’t to your dog in any buildings so one of you will have to wait outside Great value and nothing else like it on this scale.

Highly recommended a must do if in the area. A full day needed for the full experience. Great for all ages as regular transport runs throughout the venue, the venue also has good facilities. Taking photos in black and white very in keeping. Fantastic realism of the times exhibited with authentic displays.

Visited Beamish after a stay in Newcastle and so glad we did! A wonderful unique place. Be prepared for lots of walking and any weather! Trams and buses can get you around too. It’s huge! All was good especially the town. Got some great decorating ideas for my own period home! Can’t wait to come back and see the 1950s development currently underway.

We had a great trip to Beamish. It was good to see the site develop and get new areas. The volunteers were friendly and informative and brought the place to life. As the tickets gives us access for a year we’d like to come back in the summer and spend the day looking around.

What a lovely place...fantastic day out for all ages! We spent over 3h but we didn't have time to see some areas so I recommend getting there early and spend the whole day. The staff was entertaining, at one of the shops the man at the till was singing old tunes from the 50s as well as telling us few anecdotes. The tram journeys are worth a try as well as wandering inside the dentist and the lawyers homes. We will definitely go back.

Great place to visit! Really interesting to get a different perspective to life as it was in the early 1900s. Each of the areas is very well designed with lots of detail and the staff really help bring it to life. Tickets may appear expensive but if you take your time exploring each area in depth it's definitely worth it. Plus they work as an annual pass so you can return multiple times in the following 12 months.

A must see attraction if visiting the area. Purchasing tickets in advance is a must during peak seasons. Your ticket will also allow you repeat visits for a whole year from the date of purchase. A review on their website will tell you all you need in regards to the various attractions and their planned future developments. Beamish is one of those places you could spend the whole day exploring and still have more to see. Once on site you can opt to travel on their restored motor buses, electric trolleybuses. or walk! A good pair of walking shoes if choosing the later, is advised to transverse the various areas spread out over this 350 acre site. Either way you choose, you’ll be treated to a amazing travel through forgotten and living history with period dressed, very knowledgeable staff. Most shops items are for display only, but a small amount of goods are available for visitors to purchase. The period chip shops and pub are essential to visit. There are plenty of areas to rest and relax. Cash and cards accepted, advise to take both just in case the card payment machine are having issues. Wheelchair access to most areas. Dog friendly but some areas only allow Assistance dogs only.

Loved the visit to beamish, wish I would have bundled up more than I did as the weather was so cold. It was quiet when I visited due to the awful February weather, so the queues were quick! The tickets last a whole year so plenty of time to go back too. In regarded to wheelchair accessibility I would due further research on entering into some of the buildings, as a lot have small steps. There was a wheelchair accessible transport vehicle driving around though.

I like to start WOW... What a fantastic experience! It truly is a great day out for all ages. Visited with my wife and my 7-year-old, and we absolutely loved it. The actors and the attention to detail in all the different areas is amazing, especially the guides taking you down into the mine and the tram/ bus staff. They went out of their way to engage my my little one and made it an even more special moment. You will need a full day to get around everything, so I would recommend getting there early. From funfairs, parks, sweet shops, vintage fish and chips, bakery, and a drift mine, you will be kept busy all day. You can also return again with your ticket and the parking is free and plentiful. All in all, it was a fantastic day out and extremely great value, in my opinion. Will return again next year.

What an awesome place, the kids, dog and me had a wonderful day plodding along (there is transport all around the site but we chose walking). The old mine is an amazing little place, you can imagine the hardship old miners where put through and the hardware needed to keep them alive. I love the old cottages and the special fireplaces in the cottages and the old town is cool as you like!! The food, both hot and cold is era appropriate and really good!! Like the pork pie must have had most of pepper pig In it !! Loads of stuff for the kids to do and the guides and staff are so patient and great at engaging them with facts and tales from the past. I'd definitely go again, in fact I can't wait

This place was so much fun. Beamish is a model town, village and farm complex that shows what life was like in the past. There are dozens of houses, pretend shops and other things that you can do. You can even go on a train, tram and bus, all of which are classic vehicles. The staff are great at staying in character, and the place is spotlessly clean. There are also some nice food options, but I would caution that the cafes can get very busy, and there was a permanent queue outside the bakery and sweet shop where you could buy food. I was also surprised at how large Beamish is. It’s an entire complex over a very large piece of land, so expect to do lots of walking! I’d particularly recommend this place for children.

Back third time to this place. You pay ticket and you can back again as many times you want within one year. Clean places and so friendly staff. This place offered a lot and struggle to do everything in one day. Dogs friendly. Some of the attractions you have to pay extra. In pub they offered nice and tasty Scottish eggs. Beers are also good. Book your photographer to get picture like 40 years ago. This time I took grandparents - they really love it.

We arrived about 30 minutes after opening time and the queue to get in for folks purchasing tickets on arrival was crazily long. Fortunately, we had purchased our tickets online and the wait was still about 15 minutes. I was surprised how quickly the crowds dispersed and we walked to the colliery first, which was a pleasant walk. If you don’t mind bending over for a while, don a hard hat and visit the drift mine with your guide. We didn’t manage to get a tram ride and chose to walk much of the site but did take a couple of buses at times too. I’d recommend the cafe near the bandstand for a snack although expect to queue at peak times. I loved the 1950s houses and can’t wait to see the new buildings open in the future. It’s the first time I’ve seen inside a museum for the Masons so that was interesting too! The piglets in the 1940s village (Land Army) were so cute. All in all, a great day out. The staff were all engaged and delighted in telling the tales of the exhibition they worked at.

So we decided to visit Beamish during the half term holidays pretty busy for a very cold day! Started off at the new 1950 section a nice little addition to the museum then we went to the town bought some sweets and cakes which were delicious and reminded me of days at school only thing missing was custard but bought an extra one to enjoy at home. Had our lunch under the bandstand and let the children play on the grass and wander about up near the cannon then took a look around the town at the dentist, old pub and the train station. Next we went to the fairground and the children enjoyed the rides, some of our group took a tram to the mining village and thoroughly enjoyed that experience. Plenty to see and do at the mining village including a tour down an old coal mine the man who took us down was very knowledgeable explaining everything along the way. To finish up we went to the hall and the children enjoyed writing with a quill and ink and couldn't believe that was how people used to write! Overall the staff were very helpful all dressed in full uniform and remaining in character with whoever they interacted with, the park was spotless no litter in sight and we had a fantastic day at beamish would recommend a visit here to anyone.

A must visit for everyone. Don’t know how I’ve left it so long to review, been 3 times in 5 months and I live a 300 mile drive away, unlimited visits from a single ticket, locals are so lucky to have this. I’ll keep this short and sweet, even if you aren’t a big fan of history, this is an amazing day out, to be fair, if I lived closer I’d go here just for a walk about, it’s the most beautiful picturesque area I’ve seen that isn’t wilderness. But as someone who enjoys history, this has literal miles of it, it’s truly unbelievable what they’ve achieved here rebuilding history as it was, to list everything would be impossible, I’ll drop a few pics, but you need to view their website for interesting details, and try and make it during an event, it makes it a lot more interesting and involving.

Wonderful step back in time for all ages. Really enjoyed it but the only draw backs were the queues for everything. Couldn't get near the bakery, confectionary, fish and chip shop etc. The staff were so lovely and helpful. The year ticket is a great idea because you need more than one day to see it all. Buy tickets online as buying at the entrance can take up to an hour to get in.

Fabulous place to visit. Suitable for all ages. There is wheelchair and pram access, some points maybe more difficult but still able to get about. If you enjoy looking back in history this is a great place to come. I definitely be back. You can access a yearly pass and come as often as you like 👍

Been today with my family, it was a great sunny but cold day. We all had a ball. 6 hrs there. We even took my daughters dogs. My grand cherubs totally had a blast. So much to do and see, best place we hav all been to and agreed it was fabulous 👌 my mum couldn't walk so much so we picked up a wheel chair at the check in area, sorted for her. Mum could enjoy the whole of Beamish with us. 10 out of 10. 5 big gold 🌟 Thank u Beamish. Only draw back, take a picnic, as we had to queue for well over an hour to get fish and chips. They were lovely 😍 👌 but a long wait.

Absolutely loved it,exceed my expectations. Plenty to see and do. Hop on bus or tram to get round as there's plenty of walking. Plenty of toilets and places to have a cuppa or a pint in the Sun Inn. Very very authentic, houses, cottages, stores as they were in the day. Definitely worth a visit, but be prepared to stay at least 5 hours. Will definitely be visiting at Christmas time for another experience.

Can’t recommend this museum enough, had a fantastic day out here, just took my time and walked through everything. The car park is free is there is no need to rush. Staff were really friendly and helpful. I drove nearly 4 hours to visit and it was well worth it. I’ll definitely be back again as ticket gets you entry for a year. Really enjoyed my day here.

Loved this place! So informative and interesting. The busses/motor vehicles were amazing to ride around on. The layout is great and easy to navigate. The fish and chip shop at the 1950s town was amazing. Everyone that works there is lovely and really knowledgeable. There was a little steam train running in the mining village area, that was great fun! A short ride but definitely worth a look for any train enthusiast. Didn't see everything in one visit to definitely planning another!

Absolutely recommend this place for a good day out with kids and family. Lots of things to do for kids. There is a funfair too. Kids will love to see the farm and the animals. There are vintage trams and buses too which son is mad about. Ice creams at the town center opp park are really worth trying. Must go on a sunny day to enjoy a perfect day out. Annual multi entry pass makes it even more appealing 😬

We had an absolutely amazing time at beamish today, the site is extremely well looked after with loads to see and do. The staff are amazing all dressed in period correct clothing and all have wealth of knowledge about every thing related to that period. We will definitely be going again in the future. The ticket price is good as it allows you to enter for a year with the original ticket.

I was camping nearby when I heard of this and decided to try. It's so good and it has so much to see, that I felt the need to come back the next day and I must say I could've stayed longer and still discover new things. The museum is enormous, with lots of different places to see, each one with loads of things to do and events happening. Everything around you (except the other visitors, of course) corresponds to the time they are representing, they even have people dressed as if that town had really stopped in time, some just casually walking by, others talking to each other like old friends. All of this makes you feel like you travelled in time, everywhere you look there's antique things. I absolutely loved it! It's great for adults but even better for children. The tea room has a queue most of the times, but I managed to go in a good time and eat a wonderful Jacked Potato. Totally recommend it!n

A great place to spend the weekend with your family, especially if you like history. They have a small cafe with 6-7 tables, range of drinks, and no hot snacks. I ordered hot chocolate, it wasn’t good at the start because they put tons of chocolate, but then they fixed it. They also have a gift store that have everything with their touch on it.

Wow! What. A. Place! This is an absolutely excellent day out for adults and kids alike. It takes you right back in time to what a North Eastern town was like from the 1820’s to the 1950’s. There is work going on here just now to build more houses in the town but that doesn’t interfere with your day out. There’s a Colliery to walk around, an old style fish and chips shop which is a must (I didn’t eat as its all cooked in dripping but my family did and said they’re the best fish and chips ever!) The town is really well built. There’s so much to see. Old style buses that can take you from place to place (no extra cost). There’s shops in the town that you can go inside, a bank, a Masonic hall and a sweet shop which on the day that we went, had a massive queue outside and it was throwing it down with rain so we didn’t wait. You will need a whole day here to see and do everything. Not everything was open when we visited in august 2021 because of Covid but we’d been told that in more normal times there are ‘actors’/more people dressed up and dotted around to make it feel even more authentic. The tickets give you a years pass too so you can actually go back for free at any time. If I didn’t live so far away I would go back tomorrow!

Beamish is without a doubt one of my favourite places in our area, I am local to Beamish myself and I come here often with both family and friends as we all love it! You cannot get bored at Beamish Museum, there is so much to see and do! New additions arriving all the time such as now they have introduced the 50's era to the museum including the fantastic little ladies hair salon where you can get your hair styled and it's brilliant! And this part of the town isn't still finished yet! Well done to the staff and volunteers! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I love every visit I have here so thank you! Everything is authentic down to the bricks and stitching on the clothing!👌🏻 Amazing! My family is part of some of the many tales they tell here too so it's fantastic to hear it and see it with your own eyes and live the stories! Very much looking forward to my next visit ✌🏻😁

Never tire of this place, we love it here. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Sadly the drift mine is closed at present and unlikely to open anytime in the next few months due to it having no working electric or ventilation. There's also no trains running from the train station due to damage to the tracks. We were told they may restart in 2024. A wonderful day out. The fact you can go back as many times as you like in a year for free and also get free parking makes this a brilliant affordable day out.

What an incredible place Beamish museum is to visit. We last visited in 2017, but since then there has been more additions to the site. And the future is looking very good, as more and more is being added all the time. Its a great day out for couples and families with plenty to see and do. There are picnic areas aswell as cafes and restaurant areas. There is plenty to see and do, and many hours can be spent here easily. Can highly recommend more than just the one visit. Initial entry payment, entitles you to come back as many times as you like within 12 months, so great value all round.

This place is absolutely fantastic! I am 38 years old and I have literally been wanting to go here for as long as I can remember! It's been created so well that it really is difficult to comprehend that these buildings have been taken down and relocated from somewhere else. I still don't know if they all have or just some of them??! Riding around on a bus or a tram from more than 100yrs old really is a strange experience, and whereas it bring back memories for some of us, it is completely new for the kids. All the staff that work there are so knowledgeable and friendly. Their enthusiasm and passion for what they do is clear to see. Whatever you do, don't take a pack-up. Try Davy's fish shop!! It is absolutely gorgeous! Who would've thought a tourist place would have what I can only describe as the best fish and chips I have had for ages! Well worth the queue We will definitely be going back. Pretty hard to see all of the exhibits during one day without rushing - especially if you're there with kids. Surprisingly, despite the car park being really busy when we arrived, there wasn't really any queue to speak of at the ticket counter. Pretty much straight in straight out. Highly recommended 👍

A really lovely day out. The cafe at in the ‘town’ has a lot of gluten free options. There is so much to do and see, we didn’t get it all done in one day. It is really good value for money meaning you can visit any time within the year again as many times as you want. People around are really kind and knowledgable about the history of the place. Looking forward to using my pass to go a few times this year.

This was our second visit in a couple of weeks, and we are already planning our 3rd. The best thing about the tickets are they are valid for a year and there is so much to see. We've done the towns in two trips but we still haven't seen everything. You can easily fill a whole day here with the family. The food on site is wonderful and well worth the wait. Plenty of toilets and we love the transport of trams or buses to take you around the site. There's so much to see and it's lovely to see they are building more. Also, let's not forget the funfair. Definitely organise a trip.

Nostalgic memories of going as a child. Enjoyed the day out. Staff are all friendly and polite. Good implementation of covid guidance mainly (one way systems and distancing adhered to with staff visibly cleaning things down). Fantastic fish and chips but be prepared to queue for them at Daveys fish and chips. Sweet shop queue was long but you do get the full explanations of how things are made if you can stand the wait (only thing I'd like was a full sweet stall outside for those of us just wanting to stuff our faces). Buses running and good use of distancing but due to queue system at the main village trams were off. Can see many new additions coming so the ticket that lasts a year will get some use!

Love this place. Travel back in time and experience what life was like. Take a pic nic or get fish and chips from the coal powered fish shop, fried in dripping, delicious 😋. So much to see and more being built. Due to covid trams weren't running so more walking was done and less access to attractions but still had a great day.

Fantastic place to go. Very interesting. We went in August so it was very busy. Be warned we queued for 1 hour for fish and chips and they cost £8.50. Each! So take a packed lunch, especially if you are taking the kids. We will definitely be going back, because it is that big we didn't get to see all of it.

Wonderful place, currently admissions are pre booked and tickets are valid for as many visits as you like in a 12 month period. I will definitely be going again next year as things like the railway and trams were not running, also access to the upstairs of various buildings is not permitted just yet. Paths were easy to walk on and most points of interest were roughly 10 minutes walk apart although you could get a bus if you wanted to wait. A word of warning though the buses tended to be full as the day went on and at some stops it wasn't easy to get on, a more even spread and an extra bus or two would 8 given a better experience especially for people who aren't so good on their feet. I couldn't really pick a favourite part of the site it was all superbly laid out. We were there from almost opening time and didn't quite see everything. I really hope the 1950s site is open by the time we go again next year.

Where to start ? A simply stunning experience. Shops, terraced houses, school, mine, some having been brought here and carefully reconstructed to recreate a village. Everywhere you turn there is something fascinating to see - with guides in each shop and home. We learned so much about the way people used to live. Wonderful trolley buses and trams are there to take you round the site as it is so large and spread out. The trams even had lifts on the back to lift my wife in her wheelchair. Fabulous. Collections of vintage bikes, carriages, cars ensure that a full day isn't enough, it's certainly a place to revisit many times.

What a place! Displays our 'modern' history in real life. You can see the coal mine, enter the pub, the sweet shop, the coal fired fish and chip shop, play with a hoop on a stick, walk the cobbled streets, take a ride on a vintage bus and basically live and enjoy history as you visit. We were offered a 12 month ticket so we will re-visit at some point . Easily a full day of entertainment. And no, I do not work there or own it!

Beamish is such a great day out with family that attracts like minded people so always surrounded by lovely guests. The only downfall is how hilly it is with it being an outdoor museum, there are wheelchairs available and access to some areas but quite limiting otherwise. The staff never fail to stay in character and always be so pleasant to everybody.

Love Beamish! Old memories..walk back in time…fantastic day out for any age..visit the sweet shop and pick up old favourites. The bakery is amazing. The fish and chips is a must, cooked with coal fryers, the old fashioned way, best fish & chips I’ve tasted. Didn’t get to the farm or the 1950’s village but will go back in the summer. Got annual tickets, which is a real money saver specially when you have kids. Beamish is worth every penny and visit…

Beamish was incredible. They have really out the effort in and it shows, all of the characters were very helpful and enthusiastic. Recommend visiting if you’re nearby, can get around most of it in a Day but would be better to spend the weekend. Tickets are valid for 12 months and the car park is massive!

Beamish is an absolutely incredible place to visit. The history within is brought perfectly back to life by the amazing staff and volunteers. It's the perfect well preserved time capsule of the northeast which shows what life through the ages was like. The mine tour is a must provided you ain't to tall with sore knees. The old sweet shop is fantastic with some amazing classics sweets and very well priced to. The admission fee for Beamish is definitely well within everyone's budget and the fact it's pay once visit all year round is definitely value for money. Plenty for all ages at Beamish there is a great new play park in the new 1950s area which is being made and the old merry go round on the field down from the main town is fantastic. All in all Beamish is definitely a place for everyone to visit

This museum is amazing and very interesting, loads to do and see! My 13 Yr old daughter smiled all day and kept thanking me for taking her! We bought an annual pass which was under £20 for myself and this gives free entrance for a year! I'm not aware of anywhere else that offers this. A day's visit isn't enough, we are already planning on going back next month to see what we missed due to the extreme heat! 😀 There is a lovely tearoom/cafe which can sit a lot of visitors and a delicious ice cream stand! Picnic area with a bandstand, which was stunning! The staff within the museum are so lovely, knowledgeable and very friendly, they are a credit to the Museum. The open top buses are fab and a great way to see the museum and they have trams too but we didn't use them. This place is for all ages, well behaved dogs are welcome too. One piece of advice, wear comfortable shoes 👞

A great day out enjoying looking at how people used to live their lives. The new 1950s part is coming along nicely. We enjoyed some fish and chips and ice cream while we were there and prices were reasonable when compared with other tourist attractions/parks. Plenty of places to enjoy a picnic if you want to save some money. All the staff were brilliant and friendly even though it was one of the hottest days of the year and they were wearing period clothing. It's good that you pay once and then can come back for free for a year.

Amazing experience for young and old. Really feels like you are taking a step back in time. Took the grandchildren and my daughter, they were enthralled throughout and loved the fun fair. Will definitely be visiting again and was delighted to find out that my entrance ticket is valid for a full year. Highly, highly recommended! A real 5 star experience.

Fantastic day out for the whole family. Entry price is a little steep for some, but for a yearly ticket, we think it's a fantastic price, we've already been back since getting the tickets. Ques for shops and chip shops are long but move quickly. It's definitely worth the wait for the sweet shop.

Fascinating place to visit, our first time and all tickets allow you to return free of charge within the year. A great day out for all the family depicting life throughout from the 1800s to the 1950s. You can walk through the houses as they would’ve have been, through each timeline. There is a pub, bakers, tearoom, hairdresser all of which you can buy from, and plenty more display shops,a school, and garages to view. Ride on one of the old buses or trams which take you all over the museum and visit the 1950s farm and you can take a tour down a former working mine. A great day out for all ages to enjoy.

This museum is probably the closest humanity will ever get to having a Time Machine. It’s one of the most engaging and thought provoking museums I’ve ever visited. Loads to see and do for adults and children as you journey around the huge outdoor museum filled with activities and characters from many different times in history. Be sure to check their website to see if there’s any special exhibits/exhibitions on that bring the museum to life ahead of your visit if you can. Also. Don’t fill up too much on food before you come. There’s authentic period snacks and sweets. A must visit if you are from, or visiting the north east of England. Once you buy a ticket it’s valid all year round too so you can visit multiple times!

One of the best outside attraction museums I have ever been to. It was brilliant. Everything was just so real. The staff were in character for the period that you were travelling to. It's a shame that we only had 6 hours. So was only able to do 1890s and 1920s towns and 1940s farms. Absolutely brilliant can't wait to go again. Also the ticket price is really good for a family of 5 £20.00 each which also covers for the whole year. Incredible.

Very interesting place; we only had a short time to visit but in that time went over the colliery attraction which was fascinating, everything was kept in the authentic style of when it was a proper working mine and the models, audio visual displays and the very friendly staff who were on hand to answer any questions and help visitors were all superb. The admission price was very reasonable and we purchased a 12 month pass, which is very good value and we fully intend to visit again in the coming months and hope to see all of the museum. One slight down was that the trams were not running around the site but our visit was out of season so that was understandable and did not detract from our enjoyment in any way. All in all an extremely enjoyable visit, excellent value for money & we look forward to returning.

Only a 4 stars from me. The museum is really good and interesting, you could spend all day here. But I left feeling unfulfilled and a little disappointed by the overcautious Covid reductions. Quite a bit of the museum was closed off, none of the period transport was running, which is partly understandible, but i was surprised to see that most of it was not on display and was all locked away in warehouses. I was expecting to able to see it, even from a distance. Also i felt like a bit too much of the museum was closed off. The buildings are really well done and the site is very intersting for all ages, if it was fully open you could easily stay here. One redeeming feature was the reasonable price of food and drink. A coffee/ tea was only £1.60 I would really reccomend going. But maybe not with all the covid restrictions...

Always enjoy a day a Beamish. Even with all the restrictions in place we still had a good day. My kids loved the elf trail and the Christmas lights looked beautiful. It was about the only Christmas activity we managed this year. We bought the unlimited pass in the summer and this is our 4th visit this year. The staff are always very friendly. The facilities are good. Plenty of toilets scattered around (which is good if you visiting with children). There is plenty of places to get drinks and snacks too. Will be definitely going back again soon.

We love a trip to Beamish and feel lucky to live close by. Too much to see and do in one day. They've done great job of trying to keep things covid safe and it's heartbreaking they keep having to close. My 5 Yr old adored the elf hunt even on a cold sleety day.

Visited beamish today with my son, we visited many of the shops and houses its really a fantastic place. It has disabled access in most of the museum. There's a bus that goes around old style double decker, also a disabled bus for wheelchair users or people with mobility issues, if u ask a staff member they will get in touch with driver of it too collect you. All staff were absolutely fantastic, will definitely visit again, hopefully next year as we didn't see all the museum. There's animals sheep, pig, chickens and horses, horses were also lovely natured. Very scenic and peaceful place lots of trees and fields and plenty of places to rest.

Fantastic place. Give yourself 4-6 hours because there are so many places to visit. It gives you an experience not just a museum. You see 1900’s town and 1900’s village, 1820’s mansion. You can visit a boys boarding school, a bank, masonic lodge hall, shops (exquisite hats) all is meant to bring you back to that romantic era of the Victorian & Edwardian period. For however has not yet visited, do go, you won’t regret it.

What a great day out. The museum is amazing and with lots more planned for the future it can only go from strength to strength. The villages, farms and the town are so well planned and authentic. There is always a guide to answer your questions or provide information. As a Downton Abbey fan it was great to visit the places used on set. A must to visit again.

Used to go to Beamish before I got married and continued to visit regularly with my children as they grew up. I absolutely love the place, the scenery, the staff, the volunteers. Nothing ever seems a bother to them. Last time I went with my son and his partner and we were looking at the gun in the park and I was reading the plaque and one of the volunteers came and told us the history of it, it was fascinating. Anything you ask about they will tell you everything they know about it. Old dentists is amazing .Keep up the good work everyone

The only disappointment I had when I last visited was not Beamish's fault. Due to Covid there was not as many people dressed in period costume or exhibits fully open. Brilliant place to visit, with lots to see. Love the tram rides and exploring the different towns. Food is excellent on site and you can't beat a pint at the pub in the 1900 town or a ride on the carousel. Can't recommend this place enough, it's a wonderful place to spend a day or two.

What a fantastic place to visit, we had been here before about 20 yrs ago, many items have been added but sadly the tram no longer runs the full circle due to the condition of the track, which is under repair, so hopefully this will be reintroduced. The staff are exceptionally polite and you can tell they really enjoy their job and helping the visitors. As we knew he museum was large and we are 20+ years older felt 2 days would enable us to see what we wanted to, just a word of warning if you are pushing wheelchairs then some places are steep and have loose gravel. Otherwise ok. Tea room next to the park offered very good quality food. We never tried the fish n chips, so can not comment. As we were staying at the Beamish Hall Hotel 1 mile from the museum, we were able to claim 25% discount.

We had sooooo much fun here!! Lots to visit and see. The transport from era to era was brilliant, and riding the tram was definitely the highlight for the kids. It was great to see the way we used to live, be educated and work all in one place. Its a great day out, and I would recommend to anyone. They also have an onsite bakery serving original recipes and an old fashioned sweet shop, they make the best cinder toffee 😋

First visit, what wonderful place. Very interesting to see history right in front of you, houses, clothes, schooling, all sorts of memorabilia from years ago. Facts dotted about for you to read up on, stop off at tea rooms, sweetie shops, and a bakery to name but a few. Unfortunately for some reason the trams were not working today which was a little disappointing but we made use of the old fashioned buses and even had a short journey on one of the steam trains. Most enjoyable as the weather was red hot not too sure I'd like to cover the vast areas if the weather was pants. Entrance price is great at £19.50 you can even re use the tickets. Remember to buy a booking slot on line prior to your visit.

Brilliant museum experience. It's very interactive and so much to do. Will certainly be going back to finish it. Your ticket is a year long pass so well worth the money for a great experience, very knowledgeable guides who are roaming the streets and buildings as if they were people who actually lived and worked there. Much better experience that othee rmuseums and a great concept. Young children seemed to be enjoying it and my teenagers absolutely did as well. Highly recommend a visit.

A little bit of a faff with the computers accepting an email ticket, but sorted by the very nice man who also chased us when they printed after he'd already let us enter. Cafés and shops are overpriced but the produce they make is excellent. The buses and trams run regularly, and most of the staff and volunteers are lovely. There are so many places to visit and people to talk to it takes more than one day to complete, so we will be going back in the future for sure. As the £20 passes we bought are entry for a year, it's very good value too! A note for those with physical disabilities, while some areas of the museum have ramps or are level access, many are up steep hills, stairs or through narrow entryways, and the buses and trams are historically accurate and not level access (quite a large step). Without using them it is a fair trek between locations, so this may not be the best museum to visit if you are going to struggle. There are reasonably accommodating disabled toilets available, although none of the ones I visited had a hoist.

First time visiting The Beamish Living Museum and have to say I was very impressed with the scale of the place and what there is on offer. Some great attractions and the staff really make the place work. They are friendly and very knowledgeable about the areas they work in. Plenty of trams and buses on today as the rain did persistently come down in bucket loads. It didn’t spoil the day too much and having scrumptious Fish & Chips covered in salt and vinegar surely made up for the weather. All in all I would highly recommend visiting here and enjoy the sights and smells.

Certainly something that you can travel 30miles to visit.

Went on a bank holiday, very busy, didn't have to wait long, ordered tickets online which was straightforward. Probably would have picked a week day. Recommend bringing a picnic as queues for food were about 30-35 metres long at each location. Lots of areas to sit down and relax. Staff friendly and helpful, would have asked them about the history but a lot of people wanting to do the same thing. Can have a good walk around for 2-3 hours or catch one of the buses or trams which was very good. Dogs are allowed but not inside the buildings. Pay once and you get a pass for the whole year which is pretty good value. Definitely recommend.

  • 5/5 Ashley H. 8 months ago on Google
This living museum is brilliant. There are several areas to visit and the trams/buses take you all the way around the site. Everything from different eras has been lovingly recreated to give you as accurate an insight as possible into how life used to be years ago. There are areas from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries including the colliery area in which you can actually go down a tunnel. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There is so much to see, it's hard to do it all in one visit so definalty worth returning because, once you've paid your entrance fee, you can go back during the following year.

This is our second visit and your ticket will last for 1 year. Best visit at the weekend when all of the museum is open (our friends visited during the week when parts were closed). Plenty of parking. Don't overlook this attraction if visiting the area.

A great day out for everyone. Lovely to go back for n time and understand how hard it truly was!! Interesting history detail from the mining community. Everyone friendly Definitely buy your tickets online before you arrive as otherwise you could be in for a long wait to get in.

A great day out. Large easy to use car park included in the entrance price. (don't forget to make a note of the level you parked at). The staff were all very friendly and talkative. The Puffing Billy stream engine is, at the time of writing (June 2022) is only running Thursday to Sunday, but they say that should improve, so if it's something you want to see, best check.

Stepping back in time never gets old! We go every year and always enjoy it. Just nice to walk around, we always take a picnic as the resteraunt is always busy and expensive. My daughter loves the old style fairground. Although, the prices have gone up. Buy your tickets online as the wait is always long if buy on the day

Loved it! This must be the best place in the world to visit the past and feel what was like, everything feels authentic and most of items / buildings are. You travel round the areas of the museum in vintage trams and buses which is just great fun for all ages. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely one of the best places I've visited. The Town was my favourite I could have just stayed there and the new 1950's section looks exciting will definitely be returning to see it. All the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable always willing to chat! The ONLY downside for us was not enough drinks vendors, it was a warm day and the places that sold drinks were so busy with very large queues and few and far between, saying that I cant wait to return.

I only gave five stars because they wouldn’t let me give ten! What a wonderful place to visit! This isn’t a ‘pop in for an hour’ type museum, this is a large living museum that is beautifully crafted and constructed with wonderful staff and volunteers all in period clothing and all having excellent knowledge of the places within the place. There’s a pit colliery village, a 1900’s village, a 1950’s village, a 1940’s farmstead and loads more. This is not just a ‘film set’ place with building fronts but not much else. You can go inside every house, school, church, office, shop and cafe. You will find staff inside who really know their eras and can tell you about everything there whether it be the house, a kitchen appliance or a good product in the pantry. There are also themed evenings and weekends which are publicised on their website and I’d love to go to them but sadly I live about 300 miles away. If I was local, I’d virtually live there! There are plenty of toilet facilities and cafes, all set into the museum, not added as a bit of an eyesore. Everything here has been properly thought through and they are still building new additions. The best bit though is getting around. Yes, you can walk and things are not too far apart for that. I have mobility issues though so lots of walking wasn’t possible. They have the disabled we’ll catered for so don’t let that out you off. They have available wheel chairs, electric disabled buggies and even period buses with original wheelchair access lifts! But the best thing of all is the range of beautiful old trams and buses. They’re all included in the single entrance price and you can get on and off freely throughout your stay. The trams are a delight and the buses very nostalgic. We spent five hours but we didn’t even see half of the possible places on offer. That is the beauty of their admission tickets though as the one price paid for entry allows you to visit again and again for a whole year. That is fantastic for locals and even for people spending a week or two in the area as you could spread your visit over two or three days and see it all. We don’t get up to this area very often but we will make the effort now, even just to visit this outstanding place.

Renewed our unlimited passes today for the transport gala. Another excellent day and well worth the money for 12 months. Great to see the 1950s houses open and plenty more development going on. Always an excellent day out

The museum has developed hugely since my last visit (many years ago) and covers a growing range of urban, rural, and industrial settings from the last 2 centuries. The period transport options to get you around the extensive site are great fun and operate frequently throughout the day - although it's also entirely walkable. Facilities such as toilets are discreetly provided in all of the settings, and there are plenty of food & drink outlets, again entirely in keeping with the historic locations so not detracting in any way. Finally, the many friendly and very well-informed, appropriately period costumed volunteers really bring the whole place to life most wonderfully.

I've been to Beamish loads but this was the first time since the new 50's bit was added. They really went all out for Halloween and did a fantastic job, maybe not somewhere to take very small children on the Halloween night as some of the costumes of those attending were pretty extreme! Bakery was as usual out of this world! Sweet shop was good but very long wait to get in! New Chippy in the 50's area smelled so good! I'd definitely recommend and can't wait to go back again with the family!

It's a few years since our last visit and it's quite remarkable what's been added since then. We went as a family for one of the Halloween evenings. It was too dark to appreciate everything that's now there. It was a very well subscribed event in spite of poor weather and, as a result we had a long wait to enter but it was an enjoyable evening with staff and volunteers well and truly in the spirit of things. As you'd probably expect it's very expensive to buy items and consumables inside. This is a north east gem which brings to life, warts and all, the rich heritage and the day to day lives and struggles of the people who helped to make our region the place it is today.

A wonderful place that takes more than one visit to see everything. Be prepared to walk outdoors in comfortable walking shoes. Not all exhibits are easily accessible because they're true representations of their time, but one of the newer 1950s houses has a non-period disabled lift.
