An outstanding place to come and see pictures and the historic house and the beautiful modern gallery. We learned lots about Gainsborough and his life and times and appreciated the pictures. The exhibitions of C20th and contemporary artists in the Gallery were a good contrast. The café is well provided. The volunteers are knowledgeable, professional and friendly. We will come again.

This museum seemed very expensive compared to other museums I have visited. It proudly displays a list of those organisations that it receives grants from, so why hasn’t it got free entry? That said, it is a well maintained museum which has an interesting section on Sudbury’s silk industry. There is a cafe for light refreshments in the garden.

Did work experience here for two weeks, would really recommend it! It's an amazing place with wonderful staff. It has a lovely garden, accompanied by an amazing print workshop and gallery. The paintings here are amazing, you can get so close up to them, which is missing in other galleries, this makes this better than a lot of other museums I have visited! I would never leave if I got the chance to, it also has a great atmosphere. You as a reader should visit this place if you haven't! There's something for everyone here, I would definitely come and do work experience again! I thank all the staff for making me feel so welcome and they will for you too! Thank you!

Well worth a visit. Sudbury would be poorer without it. There is only a small collection of his works but as they are not particularly well known pieces, they are still worth a look. The whole gallery experience is quite a modern one and other exhibitions are on show. There is a particularly interesting one regarding silk manufacturing and design. Indeed Gainsborough's father was a local weaver and this would account for the skill and artistry in representing fabrics on canvas which the artist displayed so well. There's an eatery and shop to round things off with pleasant knowledgeable staff. Do visit.

Lovely museum, cafe and shop set in the town of Sudbury. Good selection of old and modern artists' works. Very nice cafe with good selection of food and drinks overlooking a enclosed garden. Worth a visit.

Went on a rainy day in January and the exhibitions were brilliant and it went from giggles with James Gillray to calm contemplations with Rebbecca Salter to Amazing beautiful Gainsboroughs..the tour of his birth home and lovely bite to eat in the cafe. Well worth a visit!

Very much enjoyed my visit to the new Gainsborough house. The layout and works in the original house were great examples and well thought out, it was also wonderful to see a room dedicated to Cedric morris. The new gallery was a good space and well used, the exhibition around the history of silk in sudbury was especially interesting and a great insight in to local history. The watering place cafe was perfectly located with great views of the garden and the selection of food and hot drinks was amazing for such a small cafe, really enjoyed the food.

We were so glad that we could finally visit after the restoration, which has been ongoing for the last couple of years. The gallery was packed with art from Woburn Abbey ( here whilst they are doing restoration) and Gainsborough works. Loved the displays and information relating to the artwork. Love the space inside, and the outside brickwork seems to fit so well into the space. The Gainsborough house itself is well laid out, and the volunteers were interesting. I was lucky enough to listen to a volunteer talk on the Descent from the Cross painting, and it was really good. The cafe food and drinks were good and the garden seating was perfect for a sunny day.

A delightful morning spent at Gainsborough's House in Sudbury. A step back in time and a plus to see Nicole Fargo sculpture exhibition too. Well worth the entrance fee of £7.60 lovely shop but a real treat to see such stunning landscapes by the artist. A beautiful garden ancient mulberry tree and a real sun trap. Well worth a visit.

A fantastic gallery that’s worth every penny of the entry fee. It’s as impressive as many of the London galleries, but with a more welcoming feel - I think because there’s no barriers stopping you from getting close to the paintings, plus the very friendly staff. We very much enjoyed the James Gillray exhibition, and being able to visit the house where Gainsborough lived (and see so many of his paintings) was a great experience. Highly recommend

My daughter and I had coffee and bacon sandwiches there the other day. The coffee was excellent but the bacon sandwich was really over priced, very average and definitely wasnt worth £6. That said the location was very pleasant and relaxing. I would go again but perhaps bext time I will try a piece of cake. That did look delicious.

Visited for one of the open days, it looks brilliant. Such an exciting thing for Sudbury and look forward to seeing it again when properly open.

Part of the museum is a gallery with changing exhibitions. In the actual house where Gainsborough lived, there are interesting displays, plus exhibits from other artists from Gainsboroughs time. The food in the cafe was good.

If you like Gainsborough this is a great little museum. I appreciate how talented he was, just portraits aren't my favourite genre. That said I enjoyed his landscapes and the Constable exhibition, on when I went. Really helpful and friendly staff.

Nice cafe, good cakes. Garden still being established. Impressive way of displaying paintings. Some rooms, including room with a view, not yet in full use. Tasteful shop....very tempting. No entrance fee to enter shop & cafe.

From 1st visit several years ago, was little disappointed with the amount of artefacts on display associated with Gainsborough himself. The whole of downstairs, seemed to be dedicated to gallery space and whole of top floor is dedicated to John Constable. It maybe several more years before I return. Disappointed!!! (however, we was very impressed with the Quince tree in the garden)

Quirky place not on the main road. Lovely garden with extremely ancient mulberry tree. Similarly ancient house where Gainsborough lived and painted. Can explore all levels of the house which is rich in history of the area and the artists life. Paintings by many famous artists not just Gainsborough but Turner etc

Welcoming and very helpful front of house staff. The gallery is much more extensive than it would appear from the front with a range of Gainsborough's work as well as a variety of other artists' pieces. The temporary exhibition (seen July 2019) was superb. The house itself is fascinating and a small exhibition on this would be enjoyed. Also recommended are the very pretty garden and the well-stocked shop. The only thing missing? On summer weekends offer cream teas to go with the garden. Nothing else required. Just a pot of tea, a scone and some cream and jam.

Recently renovated museum in Sudbury, Suffolk. First class transformation with added galleries, showing more than ever before (I remember the museum before the renovation). It's well worth a visit if you love art and history.

Well laid museum in a nicely restored contemporary setting, showing the works of Gainsborough and his contemporaries. The rooms a little too dark to see the paintings and read the information sheets. The new extension is a lovely space.

A lovely place. The Flemish exhibition was interesting and beautiful. The staff are helpful and the cafe had gorgeous cakes and coffee.

We'd been waiting for the new Gainsborough's House Gallery and it did not disappoint. The house itself has improved lighting, and even a lift now. There's a new café with a delicious menu.

A real gem if you like Gainsborough paintings. The selection is really impressive and the period building is delightful.

👍 It's a lovely place for walks and take the kids for activities and some nature education. You can do a kayak tour, sit and at a Cafe or bring your picnic. The scenery is not "breathtaking" but it's just a nice place to visit on a sunny Saturday with the family
