I visited this museum for the first time. It seems it may have recently re opened. Your ticket is good all year. You have to pay a small entrance fee if you are a non resident. Small but very varied and interesting collections.

Brighton Museum and Art Gallery is a great place to visit for anyone interested in art, history, or design. The museum has a wide variety of collections, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and furniture. There are also several temporary exhibitions on display at any given time. I was there recently to see the exhibition of the work of Roger Bamber, a popular Brighton-based photographer who died in 2022. The exhibition, entitled "Out of the Ordinary", showcases Bamber's unique and distinctive style of photography, which often captured the quirkiness and eccentricity of everyday life. Bamber's work is both humorous and thought-provoking, and the exhibition provides a fascinating insight into his creative mind. The photographs on display range from portraits of local characters to images of Brighton's iconic landmarks, and all are imbued with Bamber's trademark wit and originality. The museum is located in a beautiful building in the heart of Brighton. The building was originally built as a library in the 1800s, but it has been converted into a museum in recent years. The building is full of interesting architectural features, and it makes a great setting for the museum's collections. The museum's staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They are always happy to answer questions and provide information about the collections. The museum also has a helpful website that provides information about the collections, exhibitions, and events. Overall, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery is a great place to visit for anyone interested in art, history, or design. The museum has a wide variety of collections, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The museum is also located in a beautiful building in the heart of Brighton.

Found all of the Christmas mice scattered around the museum. Loved the effort that had gone into them. Now, on a more serious note, I saw the Lee Miller exhibition that was incredibly deep, emotional and beautiful. Certainly a must see!

It is a superb location with an eclectic collection of beautiful and inspiring items. Not forgetting the architecture of the building. The gift shop options are a great reflection of the gallery exhits.

Great museum to visit when you're in the city; good variety across most of the exhibits - especially loved the Bowie exhibit, told a great story and featured a lot of photos I hadn't seen before. Interesting exhibit on Brighton's LGBTQ history too!

The architecture is really cool and the museum's collection is quite wide ranging, if not random. I gave it 3 stars just because I found the curation to be in need of improvement. For example, some of the paintings have detailed descriptions while others, namely the ones with Black subjects, have little detail and don't offer proper contextualization. Another thing I noticed is that for the portraits with Black subjects, the name on the description has been changed to remove derogatory racial names, but the plaque on the frame itself still contains the original name. Since there is no accompanying text to further describe this choice, it does little to correct past racism. Another example that comes to mind is the way the texts highlight the various Asian and African inspirations behind some of the works by Western artists, but still frames these techniques as Western innovation instead of centering the non-Western influences as the originators of the designs and techniques. I enjoyed the chair collection and loved learning about Brighton's LGBTQ history!

Some great exhibitions. Really enjoyed our time here. Shame about the unruly kids ruining it for people running riot..

You pay £9 then can return as often as you like for one year, including the special exhibitions. That is excellent value. Lots to see here, with galleries to suit all tastes. Plenty of seating and very clean. There were happy children enjoying a school trip which was nice to see. Only slight criticism is that I would like to see more stock in the shop. Altogether highly recommended

I got free entry here by using Art Fund membership. This museum has a very eclectic collection of items and galleries, including a new gallery on archiligy that had artefacts from some very very early Brighton residents.

Awesome collection! It's definitely a broad range. Also, basically the ticket you purchase for the day is good for re-entry the whole year. Obviously as long as you bring your ticket. It's worth the small fee!

I didn't really have long enough to look round this museum properly but I really enjoyed the rooms I got to. It has a really interesting furniture section which is pretty wonderful. There was even a Lalique table! Each area I went to had at least one seat. When I bought my ticket I found it would be valid for a whole year, so if I can manage it - I'll be back.

We really enjoyed the sea painting activity for our children. The lady was really friendly and helpful. The museum had some interesting things to see for our children too. We all saw interesting things. We had an amazing time.

I have taken all my children here and it was free at the time which was a bonus. An outstanding place to visit. It has the most eclectic exhibits that you've probably not seen the likes of before. Of course it also had the natural history part as well which my younger children enjoyed the most. This was full of fabulous displays and dioramas. It had hands-on parts for the children to join in and keep them busy building and making things. It had all things Brighton as well of course which I loved finding out more about. My eldest children enjoyed the fashion part the best as it showed styles through the ages and it was funny how some are now coming back into style. It was busy but there was so much to see and different floors to visit it wasn't too bad. Would highly recommend it to people looking for something other than your average museum. This had the lot and more.

Amazing collection of pieces from wide variety of different time periods. Very cheap for the quality of the displays and buying a ticket allows you access for the year. Great way to spend an afternoon would highly recommend.

24th Aug: Turned up for a second look at the Bamber photographs, they do make me laugh! Here's the Escaping Skeleton! In the current heatwave, a great place to cool off. The Roger Bamber photography exhibition is "Brighton" unusual, with charm, wit and artistry. Spacious museum with lift, outside lies the Pavilion gardens, bring your picnic with!

A good museum with some interesting things. I especially liked the ancestors gallery. Although good, in most other places you'd probably be able to get in for free, even if you were a visitor. There's no cafe, but your ticket allows you to leave and come back in. There's a great little cafe in the park, just round the corner. The staff were very friendly.

Lovely museum, quite eclectic starting from a tribute to The Jam and the Mods'fashion, some amazing, unusual furniture including some quirky chairs that you love to own but wouldn't know where to put them in your home! There is also a couple of galleries dedicated to painters, and may more displays that should keep you occupied for a while. The staff is pleasant, polite and helpful and the boutique... well, everything was too tempting, and rather dear, but it's art, that I ended up with another dust catching fridge magnet! I wouldnt bring too young kids, nor daft teenagers, that would spoilt your enjoyment.

I only visited the Roger Bamber exhibition, which was excellent. Very well curated, with plenty of space to view and absorb his photographs. Also very good additional exhibits cabinets, which add to the overall impression of Roger's life. There's a nice chronology to his work as well as highlighting the variety of his subject matter. Highly recommended.

We went to see the Bowie exhibition and it was worth every penny. Lots of images me and my boyfriend had never seen before (and we're big fans). The playlists for each room were amazing and even though the exhibition itself isn't massive we could've spent the whole day there!

We loved it. We thought the Jam exhibition is done, surprised it wasn't. A lot to see there and you can go again when ever you want with the main ticket. Valid for one year 👍

Visited April 16, 2019: Had a great time. Didn't have as much opportunity to look around more as I would have wanted, but I certainly appreciated the more modern pieces for viewing.

We visited on a rainy afternoon in October and were very pleased to be able to experience the historic interior of this unique building without bumping into too many other visitors. The rooms are laid out in a way that helps you understand how the building was originally used. The quality of the internal decorations is very high, with some rooms having been recently restored to reflect the original designs. There is a room upstairs that shows how one of the most extravagant rooms was restored, including an intricately designed carpet. There is a lot of history told in the panels in the rooms upstairs about the various uses of the building. There is also a very interesting video on the history of the building and stories of some of its hidden treasures.

Went to see a wildlife photography exhibition on loan from a London museum. The photos are about A3 size and each photo has a written explanation. There are a lot to see but not so many that most primary school children would get easily bored. Well worth a visit if you are keen on wildlife. And of course there are the permanent exhibits to see as well.

Superb exhibition of Marilyn Stafford's photography. Worth every penny of the entrance price. We also enjoyed the room full of local pre-history finds, including the skeletons and the facial reconstructions.

Such a great museum with some fun interactive spaces. Kids get a lovely bag with a sheet of things to look for, a notepad and a pencil. We had a great time!

The museum has modest collection but it is well presented. The art gallery does pull together some interesting collections.

Beautiful main exhibition, including funny pottery, ancient people reconstructed, two ancient Egypt rooms and art nouveau room with a lot of furniture and interior stuff, also decorated with a very peculiar choice of paintings. Also a little bit on woman, LGBTQ history, mods Vs rockers and history of Brighton and Hove. Upstairs there are exhibitions about theatre, fashion, David Bowie, etc. Highly recommended, not too many people, COVID safe and not too much to see, what could be a good thing if you're not into British museum / the Met style of exhibitions.

A beautiful old building with itself beautiful features. The exhibits were interesting very well displayed and enjoyable to walk around. They also had a great David Bowie feature exhibition which was enjoyable.

Went to the Bowie exhibition and found so much more. Perfect place for a rainy afternoon! Bars local are some of my favourites in town. This town has so much to offer. Its not just for the tourists.

I would have been 5 stars but it costs to much for what's there, I have been in much bigger and better museums in London for free.

A lovely, diverse museum with really helpful staff. I visited during the David Bowie exhibition, which was well curated. Also, this museum has a nice bookshop. I only wish I had more time here.

😐 They're beach huts! They don't provide any type of service. They just kinda sit there, being huts. As huts go, they're quite colourful. I'd go as far as saying that they're probably the best beach huts I've ever seen, which isn't saying that much. If you're a beach hut fan, or maybe just dabble in g...
