Bottom floor always feels dead now, so many empty spaces and there are going to be even more now more shops are moving out (TKMAXx for example) still a nice little place to go though that's why its 4 stars, can't give it 5 if I don't think its going to be around in the next 10 years. Just search YouTube for "Wakefield Ridings Shopping Mall 1990" then go in on a Saturday at its 'busiest' time, there's not even a 10th of the amount of people in that video, quite sad really, but like i said still a nice little place to shop.

This was an after hours visit on Sunday so the area was pretty much deserted. It is quieter and family friendly. The nearby parking lot is a great benefit and makes most of the town centre shopping, restaurants and banking facilities within reach if you love walking. The Shopping Centre itself offers much in terms of clothing and home and garden.

Not been here for a couple of years and had been told that it was going a bit downhill! On the contrary, there is a great selection of shops offering everything you would expect from a retail centre. Good choice of cafes also!

Not sure if it's me. I remember shipping at one of the first branches in Grimsby some 26 years ago and the quality was great. Haven't been to primark in a long long time and thought I'd pop in. Whilst the clothes seemed to be aimed at the younger generation, staff could do with a smile here and there

Getting better again, units starting to fill up, lots of pop up craft fairs which is lovely to visit. Pity the toilets have been closed on the top floor bearing in mind d they are opposite the food court.

Run down, freezing cold, and absolutely filthy. Edit: With regards to the centre feedback. I think who ever has responded to my comment is in some state of denial and should really visit the site before making a statement such as factually incorrect. I visited 10 minutes after opening, the building was indeed freezing cold, to the point condensation is running down the walls. The place is dirty! The rails on the escalators are absolutely heaving and probably haven't seen a cloth or sanitiser since the early 1990's. The toilet facilities in the lower mall, even though only open 10 minutes, absolutely disgusting! Toilet bowls not clean, poo up the walls and all over the paper dispensers in all stalls! Urine all over the floor! Is that clean? I think not. Hardly any open shops, and loads of empty lets. New owners I understand are trying, but not hard enough in my opinion. I would rather travel into Barnsley and experience the fantastic changes they have made to their market hall and town centre. Is that factually correct enough for you?

The death of a shopping centre! Very expensive parking, payment machines frequently out of order. One of the main lifts has been out of order for a couple of months now which makes it impossible for prams etc waiting 20 minutes for a free one. Multiple empty shops being filled with Antiques and paintings. Other local shopping centres have free parking.

This town, is coming like a ghost town. All the shops, have been closed down... Massive part of Wakefields history reduced to a load of pop up crafty nonsense all because of a few fancy shops up the road. Sad.

So sad that this centre has so many closed units. In its "hay-day" it was the place to shop..... sign of the times now unfortunately with online shopping I guess & with the added disruption to trade through enforced closure due to covid that "broke" so many retail companies..... I feel quite nostalgic when I visit the Ridings now, I remember when it first opened - all the hustle & bustle, the buzzing atmosphere & the amazing food hall with so many choices of things to eat. I'm sure I have seen something about re-investment, so I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed that this works & the centre gets its "buzz" back 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

It's a bit dingy and old fashioned, but I think that's what gives it it's charm! It gives me American dead mall vibes, and I love it. The range of shops is really unique, I like that it isn't full of brand name shops, I found some real treasures there. Additionally, the parking spaces (at least in the green car park) are very roomy, a much appreciated feature from a new driver!

This shopping centre is within walking distance from a hotel I'm staying at. Spread over two floors. Forgot a few essentials that I needed for my stay First store I went into was Primark, small store but quite a big range of items. Boots for toiletries. M&S foodhall for drinks and snacks The mall is dated and gives off 80s vibes. I was advised that the big named stores have moved into another shopping unit. But still got all that was needed, the only reason I'm giving this complex 3 stars is the lack of other stores

This place is fast becoming the jewel in Wakefield's crown again. It's so good to see how busy it is since the new owners took over. So much for the death of the high street, the problem lies with large corporates unable to understand shopper habits and what they want. This place has a cinema, places to eat, a diverse range of shops and a really nice play area for children, it's fantastic. I'm looking forward to what happens with the bottom level. Wakefield doesn't seem like a chore anymore, I look forward to calling in, getting a coffee, looking around the shops.

New owners and team clearly trying hard to turn it around. Still a lot to do, second car park over the bridge is at the point where I'd be surprised if it doesn't need a full tear down and rebuild, many lifts need overhauling, some areas scruffy. But the place had been basically neglected by previous owners for about 20 years and I'm surprised how quickly they've pressed ahead with repairs. Just wish they'd get the glass elevator and the fish back.

Our inaugural visit to the cafe in Wakefield City Center unfolded as a pleasant surprise, marked by affordability and hearty portions. Although the name eludes my memory, the overall experience left a lasting impression. The cafe proved to be a budget-friendly haven, offering a range of options without denting the wallet. We opted for a burger meal and a hot wings meal, enticed by the promise of satisfying our hunger without breaking the bank. The portions were generous, a welcome sight for voracious appetites. The burger meal and hot wings meal arrived promptly, exuding tempting aromas that hinted at the flavors awaiting exploration. The affordability-to-portion ratio set the stage for what promised to be a fulfilling dining experience. The first bites revealed a commendable effort in crafting enjoyable fare. While the flavors were commendable, the lack of a satisfying crunch was a notable point of consideration. Despite the minor crispiness setback, the food resonated well with my hunger-stricken state. The savory notes and ample portions compensated for the nuanced aspect, ensuring an enjoyable meal. It's a testament to the cafe's ability to deliver on the fundamental promise of satiating hunger at an affordable price. Regrettably, the cafe's name escapes my recollection, hindering the ability to give due credit to this hidden gem in Wakefield City Center. The overall enjoyment of the food and the satisfaction of a well-fed appetite make this establishment a contender for future visits. A hidden gem indeed, awaiting a more memorable encore. #WakefieldCafeExperience #AffordableEats

Such a shame this centre is becoming a little rundown. Trinity Walk has taken a lot of the attention since it's appearance. However the Ridings is a much better designed centre and a better atmosphere. The Trinity Walk is cold in bad weather with high roofs in the walkways, this, together with the uncovered areas makes for a most unwelcoming feeling. Such a shame, I hope some retailers will come and take up the vacant shops in the Ridings soon.

It's great to see the Ridings improving from where it's been in recent years. It was always bustling when I was younger so it's great to see some money spent on it to bring it up to date

Some nice areas but other areas are just a complete mess. The area between the new doors and morrisons is shocking, unappealing and the new shops recently opened there aren't particularly inviting. More low lights: 1. Broken lifts in the car park 2. Broken heating system 3. Broken tiles 4. Broken lift in the centre 5. Toilets closed 6. Customer service desk but nobody is ever there 7. Loads of 'new store coming soon' signs which have been up for months 8. Website needs updating with a full list of stores which are actually open

  • 5/5 Joshua B. 1 year ago on Google
I heard that this place is being considered for closure. Not been here for about 20 years and there was a comparative, stark lack of shoppers. I would like to revisit and take in the atmosphere in a less rushed appearance. The antique shop in particular was very interesting.

There is some lovely shops still in the Ridings, but I was sorry to see that all the little eat station are on longer there which were on the ground floor.

First time at the Ridings - Parking was a bit confusing, not very clear where entrances were to shops. Once in lift arrived in morrisons! Was no signage to say where the shops are and where the lift was going to. Updated maps/signs of Ridings of entrances, lifts, stairs and shops would be useful to get your bearings and know what is available.

A few more open trading units than the last time we visited. Enjoyed a coffee and later some lunch. Difficult trading time as with all of this type of centre.

  • 3/5 Ashley I. 1 year ago on Google
It's a clean and tidyshopping mall with a few large multi-floor big brand shops like Boots, M&S and Primark. Like a lot of shopping centre's they are struggling with filling units but the Ridings do use some of the units for creative spaces and pop up shops supporting indipendant small businesses.

Never ventured through here before and likely never again. Despite not being on the coast as I walked past the boarded up stores I found myself humming every day is like a Sunday by Morrissey. This is the coastal town That they forgot to close down Armageddon, come Armageddon Come, Armageddon, come.

It is improving 🤗 with independents but it does have lots of good stores though still like M&S 🤗

  • 3/5 Elspeth R. 9 months ago on Google
It's ok but on a Sunday most shops are closed, the downstairs is a bit of a ghost town. I think a lot of the shops are being pushed out so they can modernise it though so maybe it'll improve. It used to be a great place to shop but since TK Maxx moved it's just felt a bit worn down and sad.

Still a nice place to go but they have lost a lot of shops inside the ridings and outside around the town centre there's a fair few shops that are also empty. Its a shame because growing up it was the place to go

I think the new owners are to be congratulated for bringing life back into the Ridings. Seems busier than it yas been for some years, the new free playground area, the social events, cuppa clubs, market stalls and new small shops all seem popular so well done.

Lots of lovely warm cosy clothes here at Primark at the moment for those who don't want to spend a fortune. Not to everyone's taste but you can find some bargains.

Virtually nothing here anymore. Wakefield City Centre is a poor remnant of what was a lovely city. Pubs and wine bars take over the great emptiness. It does not feel safe in the Ridings or around town. However, the building inside is clean and looks lively when all lit up and decorated especially in the areas where there are plants. Still prefer it over the mess which is Trinity.

Its ok, was a jewel in Wakefield's crown 35 years ago but since they took the centre piece out it has lost its appeal. Empty units abundant.

  • 5/5 Mudite R. 2 years ago on Google
Plenty of shops inside the building, I like new seating areas and very tasty treats in middle floor - brownies, doughnuts will all possible fillings.

  • 3/5 Jeff C. 2 years ago on Google
This was once a fantastic place to shop. Due to closure, relocation of some well known stores, many are not filled by household names and a fair few shops remain vacant. Parking is always good nice multistory and disabled amenities. Maybe an upturn in retail trade will assist.

Haven't been in along time. Didn't like getting harassed by two women attempting to obtain money from me as walking through with grandson. But there is a few nice shops and know a cinema.

  • 3/5 Dean E. 1 year ago on Google
Needs more investment , not enough footfall for businesses, attract popular brands , with the introduction of a cinema it would be nice to see more themes based on films that are showing through out the ridings not just around the cinema , Here's a challenge for the people who run the shopping centre let's see some large dinosaurs suspended from the sky lights and some more around the shopping centre , there is a new Jurassic park film out this year and I am sure this would attract lots of interest

  • 3/5 Jax E. 1 year ago on Google
Too many shops have closed and moved out to Trinity walk. It's sad, because most people prefer to shop undercover, not in the open air in Autum/winter time. The shops that are still here are worth a visit.

  • 3/5 Mags T. 1 year ago on Google
Glad to hear that the Ridings has been sold to a Company whom I hope will reduce rents and fill all the empty units. At the moment with all the empty units hardly worth a visit. The Kirgate end is very shabby.

  • 3/5 Josie H. 1 year ago on Google
This was a thriving little shopping centre but i feel it has gone down hill a bit as businesses move out or shut completely. Some stalwarts still remain like M&S and Primark but it was all here under one roof at one time including niche shops like proper bedding and textile shops.

been coming hear for years now it has everything you need. always clean an tidy plus its a good short-cut from one side of town to the other. toilets could do with opening when the doors do though

Like most shopping centres lots of empty shops, but still the rest of the shops were good, the shopping area was spotless, the toilets also spotless. The last time we went there was a time another was lots of building work going on it was well worth it .

Whats happened to the food court from ground floor ? I know there was only a couple last time I visited but was all cordoned off . Customer care desk .... id like to say very lovely lady I forgot to get her name sorry but well done xx

Lots of empty units but M & S and Boots still there with a super cafe. Also lots of independent coffee shops around. A good antique shop which was very interesting. Disappointed with paying for parking, there was such a big queue until we were told we could pay contact less at the barrier! One to remember

Good place to visit, you can come and do shopping , eat and have fun in the city center of Wakefield. Great place to have a coffee while your loved one is shopping or while you wait for your favourite movie, there a cinema with incredible prices, I paid less of £4 , with free parking. Really great place.

We love the Ridings Shopping Centre. Great car park, a roof (unlike other shopping areas nearby) and a few great shops! We always come here if we come to Wakefield. We hope it stays a shopping centre for much longer!

  • 4/5 SC 4. 1 year ago on Google
Good selection of shops and restaurants inside. Car park in multi storey is a bit tight around some corners and cameras can't read 4D number plates correctly so make sure you get a receipt when paying for tickets (card only) to avoid being charged twice, good to have proof of payment when pressing for assistance to be let out

  • 4/5 Olwen C. 2 years ago on Google

The Ridings is and always has been a wonderful shopping mall in Wakefield. Excellent range of stores to visit - not just clothes but food, supermarkets, charity, books and art. Not forgetting jewellery and more. A welcome addition to the Wakefield experience.

No even good. Security forces for this girl to go on the floor and starting to not make her breathe and threatening a girl. There is a video attached for proof, but would never go and definitely not disability friendly.

We eat at one of the cafes ( near josh stick stand) forget name but food and service lovely. Had all day Breakfast. Parking wasn't free for bluebage so slightly disappointed
