You'll hate me using the same word Americans use but this is a 'quaint' local shopping centre with the usual array of best sellers: sports direct, new look, Primark, Warren James, superdrug, and others. What marks it as different is that it's easy to navigate, the toilets are quite nice and there's a set of boutique street food outlets and bar by the canalside entrance. There's Mexican, Italian, bistro and oriental selections. Choose, pay and then sit to eat at canteen tables with benches or go outside to lounge in a deckchair. The attached cat park was only £1 for a whole day on a Sunday. Spaces clearly marked out as disabled, or parent n baby.

The new food court here is wonderful, I appreciate they have used 'dead space' in a creative and functional way (the Mexican pop up is particularly good). Although some of the bigger dept. stores have closed there is still a good selection of shops. The public toilets are clean and well maintained as well.

Nice little shopping area near the center of town. A number of good stores and quite a few spots to grab a bite.

A shopping destination either abundance of shops, boutiques and independent traders. What else could shopaholics ask for. I won't do a disservice leave it to you to find your own piece happiness at Castle Quay.

I'm no expert, but I'd say this is one of the worst shopping centres in Oxfordshire. More vacant shops than occupied ones? Probably. I say probably because I haven't actually counted. I thought about doing it once but the idea made me feel very sad so I didn't bother in the end. I've awarded 2 stars rather than 1 because, to the credit of its staff, the shopping centre is light and clean, and therefore pleasant to traverse. The sense of depression doesn't sink in until much later, when you get home and realise how easy it is to buy vapes in Banbury. Of the few shops you will encounter in Castle Quay, I recommend Nothing but Footprints and Waterstones. Lock 29 is nice, but I don't think it's fair to lump it in with the shopping centre.

Average soleless shopping centre. A good place to stop off for a wee if you're caught short. Also for Next and all the chain shopping experience that you need in your life to fill it full of slightly more costly items you don't really need

Visited Banbury last weekend, just for something to do and glad we did, plenty of places to park near the centre. Castle Quay is dog friendly which was great, plenty of shops inside and in the old town area to look round. We went on Sunday so parking was only £1.60 all day in the long stay. Felt easy going and relaxed, will be back next year.

A beautifully kept shopping centre. It was disappointing to see some of the shops shut. But there is still a nice selection both here & in the town. Plenty of parking & eateries 👍 We enjoyed our little walk along the tow path, & sat & watched to barges come & go.

Looks pretty at night. Always deadly quiet. Premises waiting to go under sadly. Parking is free after 6pm at the long stay car park hence 3 stars.

It has been years since I have visited this shopping centre. There were few big improvements e.g. public toilets and a few very nice shops added and food stalls. It's nicely decorated for Christmas with a few nice extras like Santa's sleigh. Great for taking photographs in.

Went on a Friday afternoon. Hardly anyone about. Half the units are empty. No atmosphere. Terrible state of affairs. Lock 29 is a good addition, though.

It was beautiful as lit up for Christmas. There were Christmas photo opportunities around the Centre as objects placed for this purpose. Security and cleaners all visible, so well maintained. Sadly, some vacant shops, but this is a sign of the times.

This shopping centre has a lovely range of shops and the fact it's all indoors is a good selling point. Very spacious which was a plus because it was very busy. I thought it was good that there is a little soft play area where the parents could sit while the kids played. Plenty of places to sit and take the weight off your feet, while having something to eat. Definitely a place I'll visit again. Forgot to mention there's plenty of parking near.

Lively and bursting with fun activities for children during half term holiday. Where else can you go that's out of the rain and warm?

  • 4/5 John S. 1 year ago on Google
Big, clean and populated with all the big-name retailers that you'd like to be there. 🚻 were clean and multi storey car park was cheap, well lit, but hard to find your way out of! A sneaky way to keep you there shopping longer???

I went to Castle Quay hopping centre last week for the first time since the new Castle Quay 2 opened, and I must admit, the new development has really transformed the centre into the 21st century. Great choice of shops, and it's really nice walking along the canal with the Christmas lights at this time of year. Parking is much better than it used to be - there are now three car parks to choose from. I was very pleased when I went in on Thursday evening for a couple of hours, and the parking turned out to be free. My only complaint is that now that all the new shops and buildings have opened, the original Castle Quay building does look slightly outdated, and in need of a revamp.

Very pleasent place from what I could see in the dark after all the shops had shut. I did manage to park up here and stay around Banbury town centre until late and get back through the shopping centre and to my car without issue.

A very good shopping centre, unfortunately with a few vacant shops at this time (summer 2021) like so many others. Great places to eat nearby. Good multi-storey parking. Other long and short stay parking close by.

I love this place, but too many empty units which are not being reoccupied. They have lost at least two more outlets in recent weeks. Rates are obviously too high. They need to look at this and do something. Positives include the coffee shops, card shops (three!), Boots, Sports Direct, two opticians and Waterstones.

If you go to Banbury. Go visit the canal museum a nd work shop. Everyone helpful and enthusiastic about what they do to preserve all the engineering equipment. Also a canal boat was in dry dock being worked on.... all volunteers there. Very knowledgeable people. There is a cafeteria within the museum near the quay... great outdoor market... but very cold today so not as busy as summertime. Great stand where you can get bratwurst and other good food...bratwurst wonderful....

Didn't know what to expect of a town centre mooring but it was great. Handy for cinema, a host of restaurants and - importantly for women - a lot of shopping. Reasonably just after 11pm, although it might be a bit livelier at weekends. Great stopping point and we got to see Banbury Cross. Bonus

  • 4/5 Andi 5. 1 year ago on Google
Large shopping centre that houses a museum. Small but with good historical detail about Banbury. You can also see the canal from the windows

  • 4/5 John W. 10 months ago on Google
Had all the usual suspect shops and services there. Wasnt many people inside when I visited. That's not a bad thing. I went there for Holland and Barrett. The staff were helpful.

  • 5/5 Carol D. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely and spacious shopping centre with a good mix of stores. The canal is along one side and provides a pleasant walk and numerous eateries. The toilets need work however. In the ladies a lock knob was missing and another had no toilet roll and the holder was broken. My husband said the gents were in a similar condition. Unacceptable in my opinion.

Selection of shops is OK. Still some places closed. Generally clean and tidy though. Enjoyed a late lunch at pizza express. And also a few other choices for food as well as street food style area with multiple food outlets all together.

It’s a jolly hotel with a great breakfast and the beds are comfy. Pillows are soft so when your heads it’s them it creates a nice enjoyable sleep. Very clean. Coffee is 💯💯. Also walking distance to many shops and bars.

It has a good selection of shops including a Body Shop and a Pandora. However it could have lot more. Also have a selection of coffee shops.

I stayed in the Premier Inn, which is part of the shopping centre complex. The hotel is very well placed in a nice location. The shops, restaurants and other attractions are in easy reach. Now the down side, the room was very nice as it was a Premier Inn plus room. But the door didn't lock, not normally a problem but I've had people gain entry into my room before due to the same problem. Also the coffee machine leaked water all over the dressing table flooding my phone, wallet and paperwork. And to finish my stay off, the fire alarm went off at gone midnight due to some week willed half wit smoking in there room. All this was reported to the manager at checkout, but was received with no real enthusiasm which is unfortunately the norm now for the Premier Inn. Just try and get your money back, now that the "goodnight guarantee" has secretly disappeared from the Premier Inn system.

Security guards walk around like they own the place. Place is getting emptier month by month. Think needs a whole need revamp and upgraded to more modern times

  • 1/5 andrew b. 7 months ago on Google
This shopping precinct has so many unoccupied spaces. This is judged despite Debenhams no longer trading in this way, and another very large space, which used to be Marks & Spencer left empty.

  • 2/5 T M. 7 months ago on Google
Time to offer discounts to independent retailers, this place is dying a slow painful death Full up those units, be adventurous....a consultant or new management needed to inject some entrepreneurial ideas We all know the high street is struggling and is clear to see with all the empty units here

Top notch shopping centre. Plenty of good shops to shop in, and much better than a lot of others in the UK which seem to be full of empty shops. Castle quay was really clean and had lots of selections

  • 4/5 Mike C. 6 months ago on Google
Castle quay has always had a good selection of shops and is easy to park. Banbury in general though seems to be struggling with loads of closed shops in the town centre. The one thing that seems to be thriving is gents barbers, I must have counted at least 8.

  • 2/5 Jonathan 2 years ago on Google
Nothing here anymore except for average food stalls together with the usual high street coffe shops, second hand shops, nail bars and hairdressers. If you're looking for something special for any occasion, you'll struggle to find it here.

  • 4/5 Christopher N. 2 years ago on Google
Spent a couple of hours here. A fair number of shops. Small car park nearby. There is a museum which we didn't visit- sadly, as we were told later was very good. Next time....

This place used to be I lively place plenty of shops and people going about their lives, but it now is a shadow of its former self, its sad but the modern way of shops and peoples lives being lived online has taken it's toll, there are plenty of places to eat and get your nails done but there appears to be as many shops closed as there is open, still a nice place for a walk including the canal area then a spot of lunch in one of the many cafes around the town, let's hope the modern world doesn't kill off this and other towns like it.

I HAVE NOT BEEN TO THIS PLACE IN TWO YEARS & I WAS ABSOLUTELY EXTREMELY PLEASANTLY HAPPY AND QUITE GOB SMACKED AT THE INTEGRAL THOUGHT THATS OBVIOUSLY BEEN PUT INTO THE REDESIGNING OF INTEGRATING THE ONCE DYING ON ITS FEET OLDER PART OF THE CENTRE TO COMBINE WITH THE NEW PARTS OF THE CENTRE IN A FLUIDITY OF FLAWLESS MOTION. I DARE SAY THAT THEY ACHIEVED THAT PARTICULAR GOAL

  • 3/5 Colin G. 2 years ago on Google
Needs more vacant shops to be occupied. Not a great shopping centre. May become more lively when the new area opens.

  • 3/5 john m. 2 years ago on Google

Next to town centre, close to railway station and next to canal with walkable towpath. Decent range of shops with a museum. Shame the old Debenhams store is empty.

Always very clean and well maintained, light and airy with great toilets and nearby parking. Some great gift and quirky shops.

  • 3/5 Peter B. 2 years ago on Google
It's working hard to improve itself. It needs to consider why they have many empty shops and do something to support and ensure it does not loose anymore. They seem to be concentrating hard on the new waterfront. Well done on donating one of their many empty shops to help Ukraine. (Also vending machine for masks?)

  • 5/5 Ian J. 1 year ago on Google
What a lovely shopping centre locker 29 is well worth a visit

  • 4/5 Jim D. 1 year ago on Google
Easy to park and shops are set out in a way that is easy to navigate. Shame some shops have gone and left empty spaces but that is the same as most high streets now. Centre is central in town so you can explore other parts by foot. Hopefully the town comes back to life after COVID.

I’m not entirely sure why this place exists! It’s a strange ‘shopping centre’ that just has odds and ends of stores. We came across it by accident whilst visiting the Banbury museum. Waterstones was the only store worth going into. Has a food court but the prices seemed high in comparison to what was being served

  • 1/5 Damian H. 1 year ago on Google
If you consider your own personal hygiene don't bother visiting Castle Quay shopping centre! Clearly hand soap on the last 3 visits is too Castle Quay is to much to ask for. Reported on all 3 occasions and on the last visit today was told they waiting for a delivery. I am unaware of a soap shortage and clearly the staff at the front desk are completely unaware of the many shops within the precinct that sell soap!!! Disgusting in this day and age when there are signs everywhere telling us to wash our hands!!! It's quite clear all the money we all spend shopping in there goes to the 3 members of staff doing nothing at the front desk and Castle Quay 2, which will also have empty shops soon enough aswell.

Simply a tourist trap. Place included as a stop on a hotel sold tourist trip to Santo Domingo. Food buffet style and poor water and soft drink included but beer extra USD 5 for local presidente beer. Instantly forgettable

Super layout ruined with empty shops. Obtain sensible rents before it dies completely Free Car Parking would help like the arcade at Witney. Not rush to go again though with canal adjoining could be made superb
