We've been going for many years but this time it looked very worse, massive queues in the rain for us to get in to find all the flowers were either gone or dead, most of the wildlife were gone, there used to be hundreds of butterflies and we only saw 2... We stopped for lunch in the cafe, the food was nice but having pigeons flying round inside which wasn't very pleasant while trying to eat. Let's hope it's better next time we go...my nephew still enjoyed his visit though.

Tropical world is a good visit. Some aspects are a little run down and dated, and some areas are closed while they remodel currently, but it's still a fun place. Staff are friendly and helpful. Clean bathrooms. Good gift shop. Plenty of informative signs and interesting animals everywhere. Fun to visit every few years.

We just have visit that place today. It is very nice place. Cheap, parking five minuts from that little zoo, free. Very good to visit for families and really nice for kids. They got some wildlife in there, such a spider, snakes, lizard, fish, birds and many more. Highly recommend that zoo. Just to let everyone that if you planing to visit, come with t-shirt on you. Very hot inside there.

A really good place to visit its fully wheelchair accessible. In the butterfly House you are travelling on a wooden slat bridge but we were OK even with a manual wheelchair. So what animals, snakes, spiders insects, fish, birds I loved seeing the Ray as well as the amazon fish. So many colours. Did I mention reptiles, no well they even have a crocodile lizards and a day gecko. If you want a souvenir they have a huge shop full and a large cafe the cakes and coffee were yummy. Toilets are in the shop and cafe. Again full accessibility. We had a lovely day.

It was pretty good. You get through it very fast though so take your time. Gift shop is decent and the staff are nice. Its very hot!! Don't dress warmly or at least take your jacket off before you go in. The bugs are mostly loose so be warned you will get attacked by the odd butterfly or beetle. All in all its a great time and good to visit. Definitely doesn't kill a full day though!

Really disappointed, appalled and wouldn't recommend visiting. We saw very few butterflies, my only reason for visiting. They had caged monkeys, not necessary, these cute little monkeys live in family groups of up to 8 ,there were only 2 in the very small cages . Absolutely broke my heart, they just looked so sad and lonely. This is a tropical butterfly house. Although these monkeys live in tropical rain forests, they have freedom and their family. I wasn't impressed with the size of the crocodile enclosure either. It was kind of like ,let's see how many different species we can cram into this place. Not good, not kind not for me. There were also some beautiful fish, koi, which were massive, and just didn't have the room required for the growth . There was also a plastic bottle,a toy car and sweet wrappers floating around in their pond. This just wasn't for me , appalling habitats ,dead foliage hanging from the ceilings, lack of food in dishes for the tortoises, cages inadequate, and poorly kept. In one enclosure was a lizard ,resting in a plank of wood, the wood had long screws sticking up between the feet of the creature. The place just filled me with sadness. Please see my photos and make your own mind up.

Covid friendly and has a path to follow. Cafe was very busy at 11am onwards. Areas were litter free and a bit tired looking. Most tanks had someone in (including the awesome stingray!). Approximate walking round time inside with a toddler was just under an hour. On the day we went people were conscious of each other and gave each other space and a lady opened another till to help us get checked in. Very pleased :) will be back soon!

Lovely place. Quite cheap to get in, 3 adults, 1 child over 5, and 1 child under was Β£28. I walked around feeling this was a good day. Animals were well displayed, lots of them. My pucky grandson said, "This is better than I thought it would be." High praise indeed. Then we decided to eat in their cafe! It's expensive Β£28 entrance fee and Β£33 for 2 coffee, 2 chip butties, and 2 kids meals. So my advice would be, take your own food, if it's a nice day there's lots of seating outside and around the park.

We have been taking our children to Tropical World every so often for over 8 years now and today was the first time I've felt underwhelmed. A lot of the enclosures were empty and, despite the apparent Β£1.5m refurbishment, the place felt incredibly run down and neglected. I understand coronavirus has made things difficult however it would have been the perfect opportunity for the council to really clean up the place ready to welcome back families like ours! Will definitely not be rushing back!

We loved it here. Not a whole day out but plenty more to do nearby. We spent about 2 hours inside walking through the different tropical rooms. The price was very reasonable, as were the prices in the gift shop and cafe. Outside there are beautiful gardens to explore and walks. There is no car park on site. The parking is all road side or just down the road a short walk away there is a car park which is free right next to a fab park and play area.

Had a lovely day with our one year old. He loved the waterfall area with all the birds hanging about. Cheap entrance for a rather wide selection of animals. Simple is always better and Tropical World proves this. Could do with a bit of tlc, but otherwise great πŸ‘

This attraction is really good and well worth a visit, especially if you have kids. There are a number of different zones containing various animals & reptiles. The well marked out path takes you around each zone and then back to the start so you don't miss anything. There is an onsite cafe and good changing facilities too. The cafe served cold and hot food. A shout out to the staff here who heated up some baby food for us

Arrived by car which is probably not the best way to get here as there is no car park. Parking nearby is atrocious as it's either on street or a car park for another attraction. Entry is Β£8 for adults & Β£4 for kids over 5years, its Far too expensive for the size of the place. 4 of us completed it in around 30 minutes. You can use your receipt & go around as much as you want on the day of purchase however the place is so small & cramped its kinda disappointing. Lots of empty tanks with just plants in or signs which say "coming soon" Cafe was over priced too, I ordered chilli & chips & this cost me Β£6, which wouldn't have been so bad except the portion size was laughable. It seems all Leeds City Council attractions have gone this way, far too expensive for what you're actually getting. I know Tropical World has been going downhill for a while but it really shouldn't be difficult to create something cheap & cheerful which Leeds residents can enjoy. Shame on Leeds City Council.

Really enjoyed our trip to tropical world, it's a reasonably priced good day out and would definitely recommend to others. Quite a variety of animals in well laid out enclosures! The cafe is pretty good too!

Visited today with my partner. Amazing place and so many great animals. My only complaint is that the pullstring in the disabled bathroom HAS TO reach the floor in case of a fall. It can’t be tied up or put out of reach. Please take care of that in future!

Went for an early birthday day out with my husband and my 1 year old who loves fishes and animals. so she was very intrigued by all the tanks and the animals. Lots of things to explore. Plus different terrain for her to practice her walking on. It's really good for all ages, school trips and learning about new things and animals.

Very disappointed. Apart from the fish, the reptile, bird & mammal displays were heartbreaking. The meerkats were in a shockingly small enclosure with no way to hide from humans. The crocodile enclosure was also very, very small. Watching the bats try to fly up made me cry. The one star is for the friendly staff. We didn't know how very sad this small zoo would be. We won't be returning, nor will we recommend to friends.

My wife and I with our 20 month toddler had a wonderful day out! It was like gentle stroll through the whole Tropical World. There was hardly any people about on a Monday afternoon so went could take our time exploring. Our toddler loved it running around and exploring whilst attached to reins for the obvious safety. The place is pleasantly warm for the tropical plants and creatures. We left feeling like we'd been on a holiday in the few hours escapade. It's a wonderful charming place to another world!

This is a really good place in the summer, January not so much, there was no butterflies, no birds ( well we saw 2). The fish and the meerkat were lovely but it would have been nice to actually see birds and butterflies, I understand that it's winter but with it begin a tropical house I assumed it would be all year round. I'm unsure if the prices reflect this as I cant remember what we paid in the summer. The price for 3 children and a adult was under Β£20 so I cant really complain, the children had a lovely day and the grounds it's situated on is lovely, it's just a shame it was raining so we couldn't enjoy the outside areas.

The place was a bit of disgrace, very few animals and birds, and what we saw didn't look happy and well kept, the pond water was so green it was bubbling, lots of empty enclosure so some had a very lucky escape

Staff are very loud and rude and the animals enclosures are not that great at all too small no places for meerkats to hide and alot of money to say there's not much to see due to most enclosures being empty,

I found the whole experience disturbing. Meerkat was pacing up and down which I read was a sign of distress. The crocodile was in a very small enclosure. The animals looked really unhappy. I took my grandson but I thought the animals would be in large enclosure. Never again will I go or promote it. If your an animal lover its not for you. 1 star for staff.

On a rainy day at Roundhay Park what better way to escape the misery than a tour around Tropical World. Fun for the kids and adults, it's a bit warm in there, (it is tropical after all) but if you can fight through the heat you'll see insects, snakes, fish, birds, meerkats, butterflies and monkeys! Lots of exotic trees and plants too if that's your thing. It's all a one way system so you can see everything, no stairs if you have a pram or wheelchair. After you've done, you can walk around the park to cool down.

Loved Tropical World in Leeds. Went with the family. Lots to see. There is a gift shop on your way in directly in front of the entrance and a cafe just to the right. There is a garden that you could eat your own food in as there are also seats. £7.50 an adult. £3.50 for a child and under 2 Yr old are free. There are lots of animals to see and butterflies that fly around freely. There is no parking on site but the roads opposite are available free of charge. All in all a good day out. Well recommended place to visit. 😁😁

We went on a weekday therefore it wasn't as busy as it may have been during the weekend. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day. The boys seemed to enjoy the whole place but the highlight for them was without a doubt the meerkats. They loved seeing them play and jump about. The gift shop was okay, mostly soft toys which are somewhat reasonable priced.

Great place to take the kid's out for the day. But you only takes half hour to get around. Recommend taking a packed lunch cafe very expensive. Nice shop with plenty of stuff for the kid's but very over priced and entry is expensive for what is there but would still recommend a visit. Plenty of parking nearby and it's free.

Overall the experience was fine, we were lucky in that many animals became active while we were around, unfortunately many exhibits were closed due to various reasons. The entire area is smaller than I anticipated, even with research of what was to be expected, and despite going around slowly we were out in maybe an hour or so. It should be noted that it does become very busy especially on weekends, which naturally makes sense as it was full of children who are obviously off from school. Overall this is a nice place to go.

Me and my family really enjoyed Tropical World. We went on Wednesday 7th June. It was lovely. The only thing is I had a panic attack with all the butterflies flying around. Apart from that I really enjoyed it. The Grandchildren had a lovely day they had a picnic on ya grounds. I am disabled and forgot my key to my scooter at home, and the staff so kindly lent me theirs. They even went all out and lent me the bigger one for me to go over to the park with the grandchildren. Great place

My kids loved it here. We have a max card and were able to use it here. My kids rushed round the first time we went and we were in and out in about an hour and a half. The second time we went my kids took time to look around and learnt loads of stuff. The turtles were a big hit with my kids. We could have spent so much more time just at those. My children loved the butterfly enclosure and of course it's hot in there so they have the right climate but you forget just how hot every time and you melt!

Great tropical experience, some exotic tropical plants and animals. I have been there multiple times. Each I visit there I made sure to take along a friend or family. It reminds me of my country’s (India’s) climate and nature. Well maintained and carefully taken care of. They do have a small gift shop and a big cafe. β˜•οΈ It is definitely a great place for children to learn more about tropical plants insects, birds and animals . The entry fee is 7 pounds which is not bad . There is a massive garden outside with a fountain , take a walk outside to relax 😌 I myself visited Tropical world 6 times in 3 years. Summer or spring is the best time to visit , garden would be at its best.

As I couldn't look properly take time to read properly

Could be good, but some displays are empty or looking a little shabby. Saw only 2 butterflies, one of which was drowning. Had a 1 hour time slot but took nearly 15 minutes just getting in, then the staff were hurrying everybody out at the end. Luckily its near Roundhay Park so had a great walk around there.

The bats and the merkats were our high points, trying to spot some of the exhibits was a challenge , its not massive but neither is the price, wrong time of year to see many butterflies . There is a cafe and gift shop. A walk round the gardens and roundhay park completes the trip .

With very few places available during half-term at short notice I managed to book just a couple of days before we visited. It was a decent walk round but a lot smaller than I expected. We probably in and out within an hour so although the kids were allowed in for free, it was a little disappointing. Would recommend for those in Leeds anyway but not worth the drive from Sheffield on its own.

Adult ticket was 7 pound something and kids under 5 free. I took my two under 5 so only paid for me.. Was a lovely trip throughly enjoyed by both me and the kids. We loved the birds roaming freely in the tropical bit before the desert bit with the meerkats. There's a room where butterfly are out open but I guess depends on day and time as they were all well hidden when we visited. Nice park nearby with 2 play areas, a lake, a castle and a mansion. Nice walk around there.

  • 3/5 Renata S. 3 years ago on Google
It's all right, but wouldn't revisit to be frank. We saw 2 butterflies, lots of the places were empty, you really have to strain your eyes to spot the animals. The kids enjoyed it, but would rather go to a farm or a proper zoo next time.

All of the people that come and visit Tropical World in Leeds have Exceptionally lovely personalities themselves.

Good Covid measures in place - I felt very comfortable here. Was a bit disappointed at the lack of milk free options with the drinks. I ordered for my friend, who asked for a cappuccino with oat milk and waited outside. The next closest option served was a black coffee with soya milk on the side. She was a bit disappointed, especially as so many other places are providing such good options now.

Small, but good enough for a 45 min to an hour walk through. Some of the exibits and animals were absent (this is at a Covid time) so we were not sure what to expect, but if you are in the centre round the park and have kids and need something to do, this certainly will fill time and be a great experience.

Plenty too see with really reasonable prices. They're being very careful about covid 19 while still allowing visitors to see all of the interesting animals. Only slight issue was with the confusing signage when trying to access the cafΓ©.

Visited a couple of months ago. Few exotic animals, no detailed animal guide, tags are posted. The tour is short and the place seems not to be taken care of. Sin. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”- Worth the ticket price.

Great place to visit for any ages. There is lots to do and see, but remember it is very hot inside so do not wear warm clothes. There is a shop and cafe to visit. The gardens are beautiful outside if you plan on taking a picnic instead. Parking is not brilliant and is a walk away from the place so keep plenty of time to fins somewhere and walk.

Loved it! We came on Saturday, and as expected, it was full of families with kids. However, everyone was curious and mainly happy to see some tropical animals. Not sure everyone, including my girlfriend, enjoyed seeing a tarantula. Meerkats is one of the best bits and worth waiting towards the end to enjoy. Sorry for the spoilers. Parking is too far, and we struggled to find it, as we expected something closer.

Great few hours of fun for our daughters 2nd birthday. Great range of animals to see. Glad we were dressed for warm weather given the entire indoor park is like a sauna! The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the bad directions/signs.

Nice variety of animals but it was reasonably small so was done in about an hour and a half but that was plenty to have fun, there were lots of cute animals so small kids would love it, the butterflys were particularly amazing they were huge! cafe was nice there would recommend after your visit! Was reasonably priced and we were all happy with our options!

Nice place to visit for an hour or so. Went at a quiet time so felt like we had the place to ourselves! Loved the bird area πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Haven't been here in over 17 years Due to moving away and it was great to see how much has changed. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Definitely Recommend as a great family place Hopefully We will be back next summer πŸ¦‹

Such a lovely, pleasant experience with my toddler. She absolutely loved it. We saw lots of different types of fish 🐠, mini beasts πŸ•·, Meerkats & much more. Lovely variety at the gift shop aswell. The trail was beautiful and full of scenery which my little explorer adored. The only downside is if you have a allergy to plants, I got a severe reaction to the plants but that’s my own fault.

Brilliant selection of tropical wildlife under one roof. From hundreds of species of butterfly to the many different species of bird. Then there's the meerkats.

Plenty of parking both carpark and allocated off street parking. On a bus route from Leeds City centre. It does get busy during the school holidays and weekends. Would recommend during other times. We went just as it opened. Plenty to see and plenty to do. Good value for money.

Lovely for family day out or somewhere for a peaceful stroll alone. Tropical world is great to see different animals, bugs from around the world and some pretty cool reptilian enclosures

We always love coming here. The butterfly garden is beautiful. The cafe is a nice stop after walking around with a good selection of hot drinks and cakes. If you get the chance also visit the ornamental Gardens on the opposite side of the road.

Small but interesting I took children ranging from 16 to 6 all enjoyed it. Cheap day at Β£8 for adults and Β£4 for children under 5s free. The tickets last all day so you can go around/in and out as you please. Free parking at Roundhay Park 2 min walk down the road which also has a play park perfect for burning off some steam.

It was alright, but there were missing 20% - 30% of all animals / insects. Saw only 1 bird and 1 butterfly, which wasn't impressive. It's good for a visit if you are passing by, but it's definitely not worth making it as the main part of your trip. And it's really warm inside, so don't wear anything thermal :)

Booked tickets the day before we went. On arrival we were told there's no crocodile or butterflies as maintenance was happening. We thought it would have been mentioned on the website. They offered us a refund or to change the booking. As we were already there we carried on anyway. Other than that it was all good and worth a visit. We wasn't disappointed. Would go again.

Haven't been to Tropical World for a few years and I was quite disappointed in my recent visit. We saw 3 Butterflies, it was a sunny day, a lot of the animal enclosures and tanks were empty for "refurbishment" scaffolding holding up the walkways (if for safety it's a good thing but maybe just get it fixed) and only saw 2 Meerkats hiding in a corner - used to be loads of the little guys playing about the enclosure. I think I just felt pretty short changed as this place used to be really good value for money and a nice trip out but mine buzzed round it in under 45mins (took us longer to get there), with so much missing and the prices have definitely increased since I was last here. Very large well stocked gift shop tho πŸ˜† Roundhay Park was definitely the highlight of our trip!

Nice place, beautiful grounds with some animals and wildlife to see. Had a muffin from the cafe which was unfortunately dry but everything else, a cheap easy day out with the family

  • 5/5 Teen B. 8 months ago on Google
Very reasonably priced . Plenty to see walk around with butterflies and big moths flying around you. Wind your way through the different categories, doesn't take that long to go round about an hour or so. Very hot and clammy so nice to come out into cool air. Many animals, fish, and insects to see. There's 2 places to get refreshments and the gardens outside are lovely to walk around as well.

Lovely place to visit, beautiful gardens and a nice little cafe and gift shop at the end. We visited in the school summer holidays and wasn't too busy.

I didn't no what to expect at first from this place but it has sooo much more inside than just butterfly's. The parking was easy and convenient on the street and then it was a quick walk through the beautiful garden to a little archway for the tropical world. I took my nephews and we went for a bite to eat first from the onsite cafe before going to explore. The only thing that was ever a problem personally was how hot it was inside as I thought there would be some outside bits along the way, but this is perfectly understandable for the animals and insects that we saw. Just wish I hadn't worn jeans πŸ˜„ the kids loved the different sections and coming back at the end we got to see the other side of some of the same sections. Such as the butterfly house. It was well thought out in the layout, and very easy to follow with the yellow paw prints on the floor. The staff were nice and polite and quick at serving us in the cafe and then when showing tickets for the attraction. We all had a brilliant day and finished it off with an ice cream sat outside in the sunshine. Would deffo come again. Also the tickets were purchased the day before but they had no time on them so we could come at any point throughout the day which ended up being really useful as I was stuck in traffic for longer than expected too.

Had a lovely day. Nice cafe with good food selection. Nice garden outside. Lovely species of plants and animals. Available parking opposite the location free of charge.

Was extremely hot when we visited so sadly had to rush through a bit to get out and cool down, was full of interesting animals and very well kept place. would highly recommend

Beautiful gardens out the front of the building. Well cared for creatures and animals inside. Good for kids and adults alike. Huge gift shop and modern cafe area.

Lovely place, lots or cute animals, most of them are tiny. Beware tho it is ridiculously hot inside, it felt like I was in an amazonian jungle or something similar to that. If you can't stand such a hot & damp place due to medical conditions I would really consider if it is worth a visit.

  • 3/5 C B. 7 months ago on Google
Really good value ticket price for what you get, there was no wait to enter and it was quick & pleasant service in the gift shop and cafe. We didn't realise there was a crocodile enclosure, and this along with the koi habitats in particular seem way too small for the animals, with no enrichment opportunities. The free-flying enclosures were great and accessible too.

It's a great place to entertain the little ones, especially when the weather is not so good. As well as seeing all the animals, there is a lovely cafe, and of course Roundhey Park itself. We got to watch a snake shedding its skin!

  • 4/5 Katie B. 5 months ago on Google
A lovely way to keep little ones entertained for a couple of hours. Lots to see including meerkats, snakes and monkeys! Obviously very warm due to the climate needed for the animals so just bare in mind little ones outfit choices. Nice cafe at the end for hot and cold food and drinks and a lovely gift shop too where you can buy a small souvenir for Β£2.

Really great place! As someone who is into reptiles all the enclosures were near perfect! We got round it in 2hrs at a slowish pace. Would highly recommend decent amount of animals!
