Wonderful place to walk, start at Meanwood park and end at the small Whale. Ok it's just a rock but open your eyes and see, nature beats intercity every time

Mysterious to say the least. Magical area, you can tell Tolkein walked through these woods, he lived in West Park (a nearby neighborhood) for a time.

Well, it does look a bit like a whale! And there's a stream nearby that the dog (or children?!) can paddle in.

A large stone shaped like a whale? Absolutely. If you haven’t picnicked here then you haven’t picnicked on a large stone shaped like a whale.

Really wanted to see this curious stone. The pin marker is right and I was delighted to find it in these large grounds. Past the tennis courts and drop down to the beck, can be a bit steep and muddy. In a clearing, amongst the trees and rhododendrons, sits this rather grand stone. He has had an eye carved into him and has some curious patterning on his back. Worth going to see and the rhododendrons are pretty spectacular right now.

This was so realistic that we picked up the dog as we were worried about a Pinocchio situation. 11/10 would rock again.

Lovely tranquil spot for a walk, with a little stream running past, if you look closely an eye of the whale has been carved out and there is an ornate design carved into his back. Beautiful, someone has clearly put some love and imagination into this at first average appearing rock.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Absolutely beautiful scenery, lovely to walk round (choose your route carefully, the long route is a lot further than it looks!) Plenty of parking for Β£4 all day, or if it's busy you can park on the road outside. Friendly staff in the little cafe which is reasonable. Lots of birds to see, depending...

πŸ‘ Even on a wet miserable day it is a joy to walk out with my walking group through the reserve listening to bird song - the reserve changes with the season . Walking lifts the soul.
