Superb
walk.
Recommended.
Have
traversed
the
Pennines
many
times
over
the
years
on
the
home
run,
and
recently
became
more
inquisitive
about
this
reservoir.
So
today
I
walked
around
it,
clockwise
from
the
higher
car
park.
I
spent
over
two
hours
here,
but
stopped
to
take
pictures
and
to
admire
the
vistas
and
also
had
a
small
diversion
up
to
St
Bartholomew's
Church
up
on
the
hill.
The
church
itself
was
locked,
but
you
could
go
through
the
gate.
The
car
park
was
free
and
quite
spacious.
It
is
open
at
weekends
and
bank
holidays
too,
but
does
get
locked
at
day's
end.
There
is
Sustrans
Network
cycle
ways
too,
No.
68,
but
as
from
Monday,
6th
June,
the
route
is
closed
for
12
weeks
for
maintenance
work.
There
are
some
great
sculptures
along
the
walk
route,
my
favourite
is
the
Tree
Planter,
which
brought
to
mind
the
brilliant
little
book,
'The
Man
Who
Planted
Trees'
by
Jean
Giono.
It
is
a
pleasant
walk,
fairly
steady
away
until
you
get
to
the
Scammonden
Activity
Centre
which
is
private.
In
order
to
bypass
this
site,
the
path
follows
a
very
steep
(but
mercifully
short!)
hill.
Once
you've
got
past
that,
the
only
other
bit
that's
steep
is
the
steps
leading
to
the
path
that
goes
past
St
Bartholomew's
Church.
Some
of
those
steps,
especially
if
your
pins
are
a
bit
dodgy,
really
require
mythical
7
league
boots!
But
it's
all
good.
When
you're
in
a
car
driving
along
the
motorway,
yes,
you
can
see
and
are
aware
of
the
reservoir
and
its
tower.
What
you
can't
see,
unless
you
are
higher
up
in
a
lorry
cab,
is
the
fact
that
there
is
a
pedestrian
footpath
parallel
to
the
motorway,
but
lower
down
and
that
takes
you
back
over
to
the
other
side
and
up
to
the
higher
car
park.
A
good
walk
proffering
good
views.
Glad
I've
finally
got
round
to
doing
it.
