Tharavadu is one of the best dining discoveries I've made. This is a restaurant that prides itself on fresh quality, spectacular flavour and effecient table service. Food here tastes absolutely amazing and is served piping hot, as it should be. Colours pop off the plate and flavours take you by surprise - in a very good way mind you. The staff here are passionate about serving quality and it really shows in their food and waitering. Tharavadu has a warm and welcoming feel to it, with the restaurant well kept and clean at all times. In terms of pricing, given the portion size and freshness, you really cannot complain! Overall, a brilliant experience. I will definitely be returning for more.

Meen Koottan, fish curry, was absolutely brilliant. The fish was so soft and there were some tomatoes in it. I felt quite spicy so it went so well with rice and fizzy drink. The restaurant was very nice and the staffs were kind and welcoming. It’s little hidden but close to city centre and Leeds station. I booked the table for Thursdays night, I’d recommend booking a table since it was very busy.

This is an excellent restaurant. I’d particularly recommend the fish curry wrapped in a banana leaf. It looks absolutely amazing and tastes exceptional. The popadoms were also delicious too, and there’s a variety of them. The restaurant also had a nice vibe. However, the service was a little slow and we had to ask for water three times. It’s also very busy on a Saturday night, no doubt because the food is so delicious! I’d definitely recommend this place.

We visited as a group of six on a Thursday evening. I am glad that we booked a table as it was rammed. Really good quality food. Good service. Felt it was a bit expensive but it was nice and everywhere seems to charge more than you had expected...

Have visited this place in 2014-2016! Used to love this place! And went there again! Service was good! Food could be better! The chaat was definitely good but the rest was Not as good as it used to be! And I felt, it was expensive for nothing! I used to recommend this place to others, but I will not recommend it here after

This is not your average high Street curry house! The food is fantastic; some crazy huge artistic creations in carbs and super welcoming and attentive staff. Nothing is too much trouble and it all arrives really quickly. Wish this was our local!

We had an excellent time at Tharavadu. Service was incredible, and the food was delicious. We visited on the off chance they had a table as we were four looking to have an early dinner. It was the afternoon, and we did not book. Sometimes, when this happens, people can be stand offish, which is understandable, but the team was so friendly and accommodating. We felt very welcome and looked after the whole time we were there. I would highly recommend it if you love great service and good food. The little trolly with the bill was also very cute. I would definitely visit again.

My favourite Indian restaurant. We went 2 years ago and basically returned to Leeds also to enjoy their food again. Not the typical British Indian restaurant but an authentic Kerla restaurant. We got a lamb Express lunch and a masala dosa. Is also not expensive and the service is good and fast. Very clean too.

One of the awesome food I have tried in Leeds....!! We have tried fish dishes, Paneer chilli, prawns starter, kerala paratha, dosa, Lemon rice etc. Their service is very good. Meen Kottam is their most ordered dish and must try also. We really had a very good time. I will definitely recommend this restaurant. They also have a very clean washrooms.

Went for lunch. Their chicken is halal. Took 2 dosas prices ranging from £9-11 ( masala and chicken one). They only has 2 dosas in the menu and did not have an option for plain dosa. Drinks menu was quite limited for people who do not drink alcohol. But the dosas were crispy and thin and I really enjoyed it with the Sambar which was absolutely delicious and it was accompanied by 2 types of coconut dips.

I stopped by without a booking but they had a table for me. The lunch menu was simple and spot on with something for everyone to choose from. The table menu was a bit overwhelming for me with too many options. I liked their drinks menu, well laid out and quite a few options for any palate. I ordered a lamb/mutton dish and chose the flaky bread called parotta, instead of rice, to go with it. Although I wouldn’t call it “authentic Kerala” the food was served piping hot and was very tasty. The portion was just right for anyone with a good appetite. I would have it again. I then ordered a peculiar dessert called vattayappam. It was served with good quality vanilla icecream. This is something I would go back to this restaurant for. The vattayappam wasn’t freshly made as I would expect but it was a tasty treat that went really well with the ice-cream and the Armagnac I ordered as an aperitif. The Armagnac was served how it should be and kudos to these guys for getting it right when popular pubs and bars throw in ice cubes even after I ask for it to be served neat. Overall I had a good dining experience at this restaurant and I hope to go back there with friends and family.

One of the best Kerala cuisine/Malayali food in Leeds. 😍 Authentic Kerala taste. Large filling portions. Affordable prices. Friendly cheerful staff. Clean, hygienic and aesthetic interiors. Wide range of Kerala food and drinks. Quick and excellent overall service. I definitely recommend the Meen (fish) Koottan, Thenga Chor (coconut rice) and Kozhi (chicken) Biriyani. Worth all the hype. 😍 Also, their Pothu (beef) Ularthiyathu is amazing. The fish and beef were the best I've had in a while. 😍 In drinks, I recommend their Mazhavil (rainbow) and Pranaya Rasam. 😍 Fresh fruit juices. Definitely recommend Tharavadu and will go again.

Not bad food but bear in mind that this isn't your typical Anglo Bangladeshi Indian restaurant that offers a chicken madras (our mistake). A cultural experience nonetheless. Service was prompt and food arrived quickly.

Food appeared authentic. There were lots of locals in there. The service was good and the food was vibrant and tasty. The menu was slightly misleading which caused us confusion on payment but certainly worth a trip to eat. The food was not your typical choices you get in an Indian and were authentic meals from the region that the restaurant is called.

This restaurant in Leeds is truly one of the best. Their authenticity shines through in every dish, offering an amazing selection from Kerala, India. While maintaining true to their roots, they've made subtle adjustments to cater to local tastes without compromising authenticity. Highly recommended for foodies seeking an exceptional Kerala dining experience. Booking ahead is essential due to its popularity, and don't forget to secure a parking spot.

What a gem of a restaurant! I came to Leeds for work and wanted to try a south Indian restaurant. Tharavadu had amazing reviews on Google so I thought of giving it a try. It was the most delicious Indian meal I had in a very long time. Menu is mostly south Indian specifically Kerala. Me and my colleague ordered “Meen Kottan” aka fish curry, masala dosa, vada, Kerala parotta, Parippu, Appam and Rice. Portions were huge. Everything was so tasty, specially the fish curry! Staff was very polite. Ambience was very traditional Kerala style. Restaurant was full on Monday night which is a sign it is very popular in Leeds.

One of the best Indian resturaunts I have ever been too as the curries and food was different to a normal balti curry house. Service was good and it was very busy on a Monday night! I would say it'd a coconut infused theme of curries and also had a good fish selection

Family meal for four of us. Uncertain what to order we opted for the scattergun approach and had 5 starters and 5 main courses. Only one of which was acceptable food which was was bland ,boring and tasteless most dishes were barely warm with one excessively hot having obviously been re-heated in a microwave. The old saying never eat fish in a restaurant on a monday was proven to be quite correct. I felt like I was eating dried up leftovers The desserts were the worst, we ordered three All tasted my desert our comments ranged from." Mango flavoured Polyfilla" to Dried up Mango Playdough. I described it as Tasting like a swimming pool attendants old flip flops. We had a Friendly Waitress and a very Good Local Pale Ale from Kirkstall Breweries. But had to have Alka Seltzer this morning Over £200 for essentially leftovers absolutely disgusting food.

This Kerelite restaurant is definitely a five star. Ordered a chicken starter. It was filled with so much flavour. Every bite felt like you were in Kerela. The mixed sea food had a really nice coconut curry. Also ordered shrimp in a nice spicy curry which went great with parotta. The staff were excellent right from the start to the end. Will surely visit again.

Incredible restaurant with fantastic high quality food and staff… We were planning to go to a different restaurant for a birthday meal but opted to change last minute - what a great decision it was to come to Tharavadu! Do not sleep on this place or be distracted by other surrounding restaurants - you have to come here. Staff were attentive and polite, super helpful and very welcoming - cannot fault the service and food! 5 star service guys. We had a vegan dietary requirement which was followed through by the waitress that made us feel at ease. The quality of the food was outstanding!

What should I say about this Kingdom of food , the heaven of taste and the mini Kerala in UK actually I would say mini south India :) Tharavadu is the hilt of Indian food in UK. I came to UK in Dec. 2017 but could go to this restaurant only in 2020 due to multiple circumstances but it was worth a wait. I have heard a lot about the taste , menu , ambience before going here . There was a lot of hype and euphoria about it but when I tasted the Kerala parotta with vegetable kuruma I felt like crying because good food can do that you . It brings back lot of memories and the emotions linked to it. I have been here thrice here and cherished every visit. When I went the second time I took my son and wife and we enjoyed it a lot. I even ordered via just eat and took a take away during the Corona season when the restaurant was closed for dining. Chutta meen, Kerala parotta, paneer starter, the pappadam starter, express veg lunch , Kerala chicken curry are some of my favourites here. The sambar they give for the dosa ignited my taste feeling to eat sambar rice. The ambience is too good with Malayalam and Tamil songs in the background which are so pleasant and goes well with the food. I still remember the Yuvan number (Oru naalil) from Pudupettai when I went here for the first time. You made me feel home , keep up the good spirits guys. I was served by Tom last time who was super friendly and me even more comfortable by speaking in Tamil.

Been here a handful of times with family and colleagues. The food never disappoints and will recommend the Meen Koottan. It’s nice to see a restaurant serve good Tamil food and doing something different from the typical South Asian restaurant. Looking forward to trying more items in the menu!

I cannot give enough recommendations for this place! I've been 3 times in the past 2 months and would happily go again! Put simply the food is incredible, there is a extensive menu and there are options for both vegetarians and meat eaters. The bulk of the menu is fish and seafood based but this is cooked to perfection. There is a reason this place was reccomended by the Michelin star team, if in Leeds worth seeing and having a taste of genuine Kerlan food!

I reviewed this place when it had not long opened. It’s success is well deserved. Every dish had something special - started with pickles and the star of the show was the lime pickle; simply the best I’ve ever had. I opted ;unusually for a meat main - lamb chops which were cooked to perfection and in a delicious sauce accompanied by delicious vegetables in a tiny dosa. I’ve been to India and this food is superlative (and, sorry, better presented!). You have to book, don’t turn up drunk on a Friday expecting Chicken Tikka masala.

I’m a little perplexed by the apparent raving of Tharavadu, I expected really amazing things, the price point of dishes indicated confidence in the quality of food. The reality is that firstly service is really poor, after 15-20 mins of nobody coming to the table we had to do the awkward wave for attention. The quality of the food is good then menu reads really well, however, it certainly wasn’t the wow factor I expected. In fact no better or worse than many similar restaurants in the area with a far lower price point. Would I return, nup, I see no reason to. Disappointed would sum up my feelings

In a country packed with generic "Indian" restaurants all selling the same western style dishes it's incredibly refreshing to experience a regional gem like this. I'm not from Kerala, I've never been to Kerala, but I trust these guys that what it says on the menu about each dish is true and this is an authentic experience. Everything tastes fantastic and there are some really unexpected flavours that add to the dishes complexity. Presentation is a little "fancy for the sake of it" at times and portion sizes feel a little small (I'm looking at you chilli paneer!) but you leave feeling satisfied. Service is top notch, the surroundings clean and the menu choices good, it's no surprise Theravada constantly ranks where it does. The addition on tiny branded shopping trolleys to deliver the bill feels a bit cheap but it novel I guess. Theravada is where I always recommend to anyone looking for a "good Indian" and nobody has been disappointed yet.

A welcoming restaurant, we went at noon for the lunchtime menu. Service was prompt which you would expect from the "express lunch" section. When the food arrived it didn't disappoint, a large Dosa, a big bowl of rice, pea curry, potato curry, sambar, chicken curry and two types of coconut chutney. All added up to a very generous dish. The food all tasted great and I will definitely go back again.

I honestly thought I had a pretty good grasp of Indian food before I ate at Tharavadu. Turns out I was totally ignorant to the existence of Keralan cuisine. Tharavadu is an absolutely sensational restaurant, I was blown away by every flavour, texture and aroma. The staff fantastic hosts and make every effort to ensure you have a lovely dining experience. I can’t wait to go back!

This is a high quality restaurant...far above the standard Indian. It is genuinely authentic and uses quality ingredients only. Staff are attentive and friendly, and decor is original and adds to the whole experience. If you are a cricket fan there's some interesting cricket memorabilia of the Indian Cricket teams visits. Range of options are traditional vegetarian, plus some solid meat and fish dishes. It's worth a visit, even if it's a bit pricey as a nice quality treat.

Good food, decent setting and excellent service Chilli paneer to start all good as was the masala dosa and accompanying chutneys. Goan fish curry and lamb for mains- full of flavour Rotis were fine The in house beer was light and crisp went well with the food. Service was on point and the atmosphere was lively, the place was packed Plenty more to try off the menu on a future visit...

Kerala food is like festival of spices: chillies, curry leaves, coconut, mustard seeds, turmeric, tamarind, and asafoetida. The Tharavadu restaurant can take you for this wonderful food travel. Family atmosphere, kind and polite staff members which sre also very helpful. Every served dish was tasty, fresh and slightly different to the classic Indian kitchen - much better in my opinion. Cgefs focused on both, present and taste delivered 5* meals. Mango Lassi, seafood mix starter (definitely to share) or Tharadavu Sadya (sort of few currys, sides and bread with soup and dessert) recommended. I enjoyed every single piece of the food and every moment I spent in this lovely restaurant.

Fantastic food at Tharavadu, we had the soft shell crab and prawn curry, both were great. Good level of spice and very tasty. Paratha was the pick of the sides. Good value for the quality!

One of very few places that I would give 5 star for a restaurant. The restaurant looks and feels very cozy and has the unique character. Foods? Actually, I've only tried curry with Dosa but it was so good. Price is around £7 for lunch, which is very reasonable when considering the taste. I really do recommend this restaurant. Love it. Taste: 5/5 Design: 4/5 Staffs: 5/5 The only thing I concern is the restaurant is a little dark. But that's it. Kind staffs, wonderful foods, cozy interior.... why else you need?

Excellent, I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough. The waiter was very knowledgeable in helping us to decide what to eat. The food was exceptional, very well presented and tasted great. Two of us didn't hold back when it came to ordering food and drink and the bill came to £66. Money well spent. They've got great Covid-19 protection between the tables also.

Good ambience and very close to the station. The service was very good too. The food was tasty but overpriced. We had dosas and the sambar unfortunately wasn’t very good. Would recommend for vegetarians.

Expensive, food was different but alright. Need to book a place before going. We hadnot done so, so we were seated in quite a crowded corner-which is why I had to keep wearing my mask all the time. (Ofcourse not during eating :p lol) food was good overall. Mixed seafood platter was good and dosa was good. I ate chefs special chicken curry which I liked.

Hello, Went to this retsaurant over family lunch as this is famous for Kerala Food and was also recommended by a friend. The Medu Wada is really delicious and scrumptious and a must have starter. Also, the fish dishes were really great along with laccha paratha - this is really huge paratha and really fill you up. Also, other snack recommendation would be Paper Masala Dosa. This resturant is visited by Indian Cricket team whenever they play in Headigley and has a cricket bat signed on it's wall. Not that this is related to the food but again to show that this is popular :-) Great service, city centred location and quite economic so, a great combo of reasons to recommend this place if you're in Leeds!

Absolutely top class takeaway. Fantastic layered flavours, great quality ingredients, generous portions. Absolutely delicious. Quite possibly the best Indian takeaway I’ve ever had. I went for the lamb starter and the chefs special chicken dish (on the menu the ‘gravy’ it’s cooked in is described as magical - it was)!!!

Awesome food. Best Indian restaurant in UK. Must try for every one who loves Indian food. This is not the regular Indian cuisine which everyone is used to (North Indian). This is a different cuisine from South India which is so authentic and crazy yummy. Excellent service as well. Very busy so book in advance. We were lucky to get a table by walking in, but had to finish fast as they were all booked. Will definitely visit again
