Such a good place to go and spend hours, either alone or with friends or families! The staff are very welcoming and friendly. A variety of interesting stories and stuff, from the west to the east, from ancient time to modern time. Some of the displays are just breath-taking - take your time to explore! The shopping area and food area are also good. The food and drink served are pretty decent. I really had a wonderful time here. It is a fantastic place that I would recommend to all of my friends!

I love this museum! It's a free to go, history museum with swords, guns and different weapons on show. You can go to talks on different topics - we went to a WWII gun talk. Absolutely loved it. Very interesting with a host who made the topic fun with props and humour. Wish we had got there earlier! But guess that means we can come back 😆 The area is also really easy to get to by public transport. We took a train from Halifax to the City railway station and walked along the canal. Prefect distance!

A fantastic day out visiting this Museum of Armouries. I will begin on a slight downer. Having travelled for a couple of hours and parked, the first thing you will need is a toilet and they are not easy to find on the first visit. Go to the cafe and walk down the right hand side to a cubical of a toilet, however the toilets on each of the floors are ginormous. The entrance to the Museum is free and situated in a really nice new building. Throughout the day, on the hour, there are displays of different sword fighting skills and a talk on the Agincourt Battle which are really informative. The exhibits on display are tremendous and are found on four floors the fourth floor is on a kind of mezzanine floor from floor three. There is a wonderful cafe full of exciting things to eat and drink and eating areas on each floor next to toilets. There is a museum shop selling lots of items from books to toys as a remembrance of your visit. Overall a five star rating and well worth a visit. We did not see it, but there is a jousting area, next to the Museum, that is used for an international jousting competition throughout the year, so keep an eye out for this.

A wonderfully interesting and fascinating place. You don't have to have an interest in weaponry to enjoy it. With armour from throughout the ages and across the globe, this is an amazing place! Also has a great gift shop and cafe.

Fascinating, and sometimes harrowing, journey through the history of weapons and conflict. Amazing displays and regular demonstrations where history is brought to life. A few more interactive displays would make it perfect, but still thoroughly worth a visit. Nice cafe and gift shop, but also next to Leeds Docks with other places to eat. Parking at a reasonable price in the nearby multi-storey car park, just a couple of minutes walk away.

The museum was good, a few exhibits missing from the last time I went (20+ years ago). There was much less about how the items were made this time, but an abundance of arms and armour etc. The only downside was the cafe, very basic food nowhere near good enough for the prices charged. The gift shop was well stocked and well worth a visit. It's also worth going to see any shows that are on. All in all a good day.

It's one of the greatest museum with a great collection of arms and armours of all times where I was lucky to have been! Most of the artifacts are in a good state, and you can trace the development of arms, armours, and guns too. In addition, this museum has a great collection from all over the world, and not only England. And it's free to visit, so I recommend!

So much to see, from the exhibits to the live shows and best of all its totally free. I'm no history buff, but I found it so interesting, especially the coats of armour and the artistry that went into creating them.

It’s an very impressive world war history themed museum. They display armors , weapons, tools etc. What I love the most is their orientalist gallery. Expected the Japanese part. The items they have collected are quite authentic. You can even see the floral patterns in details. Make sure go check out what time they have shows. The swordsman fighting is definitely worth to see. There aren’t many museums in Leeds and this one is a bit far from city center, but it is worth going. Plus their gift shop fully of toys. Perfect for taking your kids there.

Really enjoyed our day at the royal armouries. The display in the atrium is fantastic. They have demonstrations on every hour and the guys were very enthusiastic and made it entertaining. Guide books are £5 and are very well presented. Really nice walk along the canal to the museum with the option to go on the river taxi either way for £1 which we did for the return.

Absolutely amazing experience, the staff were so friendly, helpful and kind and even got involved in the all around building entertainment. The cafe and toilet facilities were clean on point and all round spotless and hygienic no fault, credit to them. This place is a have to see to believe, the history it holds is phenomenal, around every corner over every step is something unreal and different, there isn't a corner where this stunning piece of history isn't covered. They really have kept an era of life and existence truly alive, highly recommended for a full fun packed day. Although it is free entry, donations are greatly needed and thanked to keep this part if history alive, so please leave a few pound if you can it truly helps. Thanks again 👍

A great free place whatever the weather. Lots to see, plenty of space, fantastic when events are on. There was only one cafe open on my visit 25.02.22 but plenty of picnic space inside. Have a look around the area outside of the museum as well - Canal and river, maybe take a water taxi.

Outstanding. Free entry, great amenities, easy lift access onto each floor. Incredibly well set out and something for all ages. Staff were helpful. Each floor has a different theme and the displays are exceptional. The amount of time and effort put in to set out each area must be immense. Really really great time and have already recommended to many others who haven't yet been. 5*

Beautiful unique Musuem. You could easily spend the whole day there reading about each piece on display. The exhibits are fascinating. Great art work and history. Went with my toddler so didn’t have a chance to read much but he really enjoyed himself

Fantastic visit to The Royal Armouries today. Booked in advance but there wasn't any need. Free entry which is great that it's available to all. Some really great displays with detailed information. Had a drink in the coffee shop which was very nice too. Plenty of indoor picnic areas where you can eat your own food too. Timetabled events are displayed and these are generally on the hour. We watched a sword fight and it was really entertaining and informative. Didn't cover it all in the time we were there so plan to return in the near future. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience brilliant museum. Took me 4 hours including having a ☕ and sandwiches. The museum is over 5 floors, but don't worry they have lifts to all floors. They put events on about once an hour to explain things. They use actors for this. The museum building is purpose built for the armouries . To top it all off the staff were very helpful. Thank you.

Fantastic day out for all the family ! You can really loose yourselves in this place all day! We did not visit the cafe as there is a Pizza Express directly opposite where you can sit outside in the sunshine. There was no queue what so ever, which was surprising as we were visiting during school holidays. Entry is completely free, perfect location in Leeds to get the water taxi back to the train station too.

We’re very lucky to have a place as amazing as this on our doorstep. Staff are friendly, demonstrators are incredibly knowledgeable, and the exhibits are world class. There’s something for all ages and for those less keen on weaponry there’s decent cafes inside, as well as in the area if certain people want to wander off and meet later.

Personally, I think it's one the best museums. If only you want to learn some history about weapons (but not only) you won't be disappointed. Huge exhibition, takes a few hours to walk around and take a look but to be honest it's still worth every minute.

Great place with lots of history. Shame it closes at 5pm. If you do visit, you need a lot of time as there is a lot. But some of this can seem very similar so it's great for those either just passing through or very into their research. If you are coming for a wow at every turn, you may not get that. But what you will get is a great lesson in history. Definitely worth a visit once.

Brilliant museum taking you through the journey of weapons and armour from the bronze age to the present. The demonstrations are great and take place throughout the day and cover many aspects of warfare through the ages. Plenty on offer to keep you entertained for many hours, with a pretty decent cafe and surprisingly good gift shop on site too. It is free, but recommended that you book online prior to your visit, as this is to avoid overcrowding.

Amazingly well presented display that will take you on a trip through time and across continents . I could get lost in here for days and never take in all the information available , ten out of ten for the staff and the presentation . One thing made me laugh you will see a Knuckle duster Knife and Gun all in one piece of kit . That truly gives a new meaning to if at first you don't succeed , try , try and try again for me . There was a very interesting helmet with metal moustache built in vanity it would seem knows no bounds . In the hunting section I loved the hunter on his Elephant attacking a Tiger . Not nice I know but very lifelike and impressive . The Longbow Man was a bit intimidating these battles must have been terrifying . The Dragon like piece of Horse armour from Asia was cool I thought quite friendly looking in a strange kind of way and his side kick was quite handsome too . There was a live sword fighting display but unfortunately I missed this . Again 10 out of 10 another great attraction in Leeds what a great City . If you are not local I wouldn't advise trying to drive in the Park and Ride is easy and much less stress . I would highly recommend a visit .

Fantastic day out for the International Jousting Competition. With real jousting! Fools were great in the build up, and the commentators were entertaining and informative. All in all a pleasant day out, easily worth the £10 ticket for a once in a lifetime experience.

We came here when the super heroes were attending. Great place, amazing collection of artefacts. There were lockers available at the cost of a £1, so we stored our coats there for the duration. Parking was adjacent in the multi storey with plenty of room. All staff were helpful, and also the toilets were clean. Great place - really informative.

Simply awesome. Lots to see. If you're a history buff, you NEED to visit this museum. Best of all, it's free! I would recommend setting aside 2-3 hours to explore and see all the sections spread out through 5 floors. Bathroom, cafe and shop facilities are nice and clean without much wait. A must visit in Leeds.

Great free museum I have been here years ago before going today by chance and its great to pass time. Came upon some armour from the Sikh empire which was nice to stumble on especially as it I don’t think many Sikhs in Leeds will know it exists. The man on the reception as you enter was especially friendly and greeted me and my partner giving us directions.

It is an excellent museum with free admission. The exhibits were incredibly varied, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. There's enough to keep you occupied for quite some time. Further, there's easy access to the museum via the train station, and water taxis are pretty inexpensive (and fun).

Free pass. Excellent museum with different showcases on its five floors. The staff were helpful and attentive. An absolutely fascinating place. Always a great place to visit for families, plenty of information to guide you through, fantastic gift shop. Cafe looked delicious but was busy so didn't indulge. Absolutely fantastic museum. I came when I was a kid and it has changed so much. I brought my 3 kids aged 18/13/12 and each of them loved it. The summer holiday program was really fun. The sword fighting demonstration was really fun the actors were great and made a huge effort for the audience. We watched the outdoor horse show in the arena. It was thoroughly enjoyable. Also went to the stables to meet the horses. No entrance fee which makes it a great day out for anyone. Would recommend to everybody. Fun for any age.

Great exhibition with lots of interesting pieces of armour and weaponry from across many centuries. Good range of shows provided through the day and some interactive exhibits. Thoroughly enjoyed our day there (2 adults and a 6 year old). Just be aware that the cafes a rather expensive. Although the food is ‘homemade,’ it is quite pricey for what you get. Having said that, entry to the museum is free.

My second visit to the Armouries wasn't as good as my first. There were a lot of exhibits closed or missing unfortunately. The hunting section was closed for example. Disappointing. I found it quite confusing trying to find my way around, too. Signage was haphazard. There were quite a few visitors looking for exits etc. What was there was amazing, some incredible artifacts. The cafe was a disappointment too. I had to ask for the table to be cleaned (it was filthy and sticky), and it seemed to take the staff a long time to find cleaning products which was concerning! I ordered from the QR code on the table. Just a coffee and a squash. I waited over 20 mins for these to arrive, in a pretty empty cafe. The staff all seemed to be messing about chatting behind the counter. The person I assume was in charge kept eating whilst preparing drinks, sandwiches, cakes etc. Not at all professional. Coffee was underwhelming. And very small. But. You don't go to the Royal Armouries to go to the cafe, do you? It is worth a visit, and you will need a whole day at least.

The Royal Armouries in Leeds is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, weaponry, or armor. The museum houses an impressive collection of arms and armor from around the world, and visitors can learn about their historical and cultural significance through interactive exhibits and displays. You can also gift yourself from the shop with varies from GOT to Lord of the Rings.

Shockingly interesting feature in a fairly pitiful northern town. Seems like all the good money for good works must’ve come from the EU funding for certain. This museum is really wonderful - thank the gods!!

I love visiting the Royal armouries.each time I go there is something new to learn. Fascinating displays on the history of War.from roman legionnaires to the modern conflicts. I love the history of the samurai too. They say Japan was made by a sword. They say the old gods dipped a coral blade into the ocean, and when they pulled it out four perfect drops fell back into the sea, and those drops became the islands of Japan. I say, Japan was made by a handful of brave men. Warriors, willing to give their lives for what seems to have become a forgotten word: honour.

The Royal Armouries Museum offers a captivating journey through history. The exhibits showcase a remarkable collection of weaponry and armor, each piece meticulously curated with attention to detail. The interactive displays and knowledgeable staff enhance the experience, making it both educational and engaging. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and armor lovers alike.

Loads to see here over lots of different eras in time. Highly recommended, the kids enjoyed it thoroughly but leave plenty of time to get round as there is a lot to see. Make sure you see the live talks, they are amazing stories told by great actors, giving you a real sense of what it was like during the times. It's even FREE to enter. The kids couldn't believe it. There are lots of picnic areas for people to eat. Little bit of a free roaming museum that makes you feel like you might miss something, but I think we managed to see it all. Park in the multistorey car park, which isn't badly priced. There are live events here also in the arena, but this was not on when we visited.

  • 5/5 Amrita B. 9 months ago on Google
Quite an amazing place. It's free entry! There are a ton of shows going on during the day which give an unmissable experience. The staff are super helpful. There are lots of picnic areas to have food. The gift shop is very expensive though.

This is a really well presented venue that is very child friendly but is equally good for adults if they are interested in the military history. There are plenty of clear sign posts, parking is in an adjacent multi story car park for the Leeds Dock Complex. The museum itself is packed with interesting exhibits with lots of information, it is on a number of floors but there are great lifts that whisk you between the floors, the lifts give good disabled access to all the floors and display areas. There is lots to see and a number of places that you can sit and rest plus some very nice cafes. Toilets as you would expect in a modern building like this are really well designed, clean and fresh with good facilities and plenty of disabled facilities. If we are passing this way again we will probably make a return visit.

  • 5/5 Elizabeth D. 1 year ago on Google
A must for everyone! I am no expert on weaponry, but am blown away by the scale of the collections, and the vastness of the range of items. The interpretation is 1st class, and the displays, enactments, jousts, sword fights and the detail in bringing history to life, makes this an accessible and enjoyable learning experience for all. I love it here, I love the building itself. Cafe is nice, but could be improved greatly - with limited menu, and only cold sandwiches and pasties. Only hot options were full main courses. No option for soup or toasties etc. Shop well worth a visit.

We went for viking yule and loved the demonstration, especially the shield wall. We then stayed and looked round the very extensive collections, incredibly interesting with lots of information. Staff are very friendly and on hand to answer any questions and the downstairs cafe served delicious food. Highly recommended as a day out for all.

What an amazing place. It is absolutely massive with LOADS of weaponry throughout the years. The fact that it's free is astounding considering the quality of the exhibits. We went during the Jubilee celebration event and they put on additional events such as reenacting events with actors, storytelling and jousting (which cost an additional £5 - £20 - we felt that we had a great experience with the £5 ticket. Will definitely visit again as there was too much to see on just one 4 hours visit. Plenty of lunch buying opportunities and designated picnic areas too!

Not easy to navigate with covid barriers all over the place. For example I had a particular interest in 1857 Indian mutiny due to ancestor being a soldier sent as the reinforcements after mutiny crushed. But I was unable to find any section dedicated to victorian troops and Enfield rifles. Cafe food over priced and quality not quite matching. Unwelcoming entrance. Couldn't be sure it was even open until walked in. Some exhibits not open. What we did see was fantastic and as expected.

Great free museum with plenty of displays and a lot to learn. Have restricted access to a number of the galleries and made a one way route to ensure social distancing. Whilst this restricts what elements of the museum you can see, it makes sense in the current situation. I would recommend 1-2 hours given the restrictions rather than a full day.

Our third visit here. Huge armoury/museum with lots of interesting areas. Need to book slots during Covid-19. Usually lots of activities for children but limited currently. The exhibitions were enjoyed by all the ages. My favourite area is where other parts of the world are explored - there's a huge armoured elephant. The cafe is still open for business. Paid car park nearby with reasonable prices. Lovely staff. A great way to spend half a day

(Translated by Google) Very nicely designed, well-designed routes to follow, live performances for children. I recommend it over the age of 10. I can only recommend. (Original) Nagyon szépen kialakított, jó kialakítású útvonalak amin haladni lehet, gyerekeknek élő szereplős bemutatók. Én 10 éves kor felett ajánlom. Csak ajánlani tudom.

Had a wonderful afternoon with my family here. There's so much to see and do and they have shows running throughout the day. I definitely recommend booking and coming early in the day to try and see / experience everything. The staff are very helpful and are part if what make this a great day out. We will certainly be coming back in the near future to see the things we missed this time.

Home of the national collection of arms and armour that features five theme-galleries: War, Tournament, Self-Defense, Hunting, and arms and armour of the Orient. We really enjoyed the First World War Somme Mud presentation, the actor kept the audience engaged for 20 minutes. We had an thoroughly brilliant day a must if your in the area. Thank you.

One of the best museums I have ever visited where every moment of the visit was considered and very clever exhibition design. An example was when you were on higher floors, you could look down and find hidden details - displays were placed at a height so it was a new discovery element. It had natural flow and direction so you could easily navigate the museum.

Excellent museum if your fascinated by the history of weapons and armour. I would highly recommend a visit. You can buy replica weapons.

Fantastic building, well laid out with lots of historical weapons to see. Every hour there is a demonstration of how some of the weapons were used etc. Well worth a visit.

Had a great day out with my grandson. Not sure if it is a good idea to bring younger children. Quite a bit of in depth reading. Be warned, the cafe is quite expensive!

Loved what I saw shame only half of it was open. I loved the oriental section but really wanted to see the War gallery and the Film gallery. Will have to go again when all the galleries are open. Would recommend the museum but the cafe is very costly ie £7.50 for a roll!

I'm ashamed it took me so long to visit this wonderful museum. I had always envisioned a small dingey place with a couple of exhibits. I was so wrong! It's a fascinating place, with vibrant exhibitions, live shows and a vast collection of themed artifacts, spanning continents and centuries.

Great building, really interesting and well-presented exhibits. Well organised for spacing out of visitors. Free to visit. Good shop and cafe. UPDATE - our visit took place before Leeds was placed in tier 2 restrictions. Before visiting check the Royal Armouries website to book in if possible.

2 floors are closed because of covid, but it was the first time I went so I guess I'm not missing out on anything. Very detailed, liked the live fighting with swords demonstration, all the staff were really friendly and a very informative day out!
