Such a friendly place and lovely helpful staff. Several different climbing walls that change regularly and plenty of routes at different levels. Not too busy if you avoid the obvious peak hours. A little pricey if you just want a quick beginner's climb but good value if you intend to stay for several hours. Great cafe with super vegan bbq when we went. Good homemade cakes as well.

A fun gym with lots of techy climbs and a good variety of quite unique holds. Big training area and quite a lot of bouldering wall space too.

Me and my daughter love it there. Staff are really friendly and it’s an amazing hobby!! covers physical exercise, mind mentality and it always feels good when you achieve something. I can honestly say I feel I’m in a better place since I’ve started this hobby. I’m so glad I have! the only thing I regret, is not starting it sooner in life. Alex is a great coach

Great staff and community. I've been coming to Boulder Shack for years! Great gym, with climbing routes changed regularly and a relaxing cafe to chill and socialise.

Could have been a good day out. Climbs feel a bit low but still work well. The reason for low score is the temperature in the center. It must have been no higher than 2 degrees! No joke!

We had an absolutely fantastic birthday party at the gym! The instructor was truly amazing; managing and entertaining 9 energetic 12-year-old boys is not easy! The company enjoyed a variety of competitions for a full 90 minutes in a separate area and did not interfere with the regular visitors. The party room is comfortable and spacious - a perfect setting for the celebration. Additionally, the sitting area and cafe offer a nice space for parents to relax and wait. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for both kids and parents, highly recommended!

Love this place! Great climbing facility walking distance from the Southampton center. Great people from the staff to the regular climber. Made loads of friends there. There is a small gym area too with pull up station with bench.

Great fun! Two daughters loved it, spent the whole afternoon there after doing the induction course. Was a really good workout for them both, they picked it up really quickly. Bought a coffee, milkshake, cookie and Tiffin, all really good! All the staff were friendly and helpful, giving advice on how to climb better. Next time we have a rainy day, will definitely go again.

I am currently a new member here, the staff are amazing - so friendly and truly love their job. Everyone is so patient and kind. It is a little pricey but the money keeps it open. Their cafe is quality too. If you are energetic... come and climb the walls in a friendly atmosphere.

Always so welcoming and supportive. The older and boulder deal is particularly good for an older starter. Tuesday and Thursday am entrance, shoe hire, coaching and a coffee all for a fiver - amazing.

Very good experience but on the phone they make it out you have to take a physical test, but all and truly should just roll up and sigh the waiver and watch health and safety video and you should be fine if your not a idiot.

Friendly chilled place to boulder. Wide variety of styles and grades. Good facilities (food, sofas, changing and warm up/pilates/cardio area, gym with moon wall etc). Lots of classes too. Well worth a visit.

Solid gym, would be 5 stars aside from the fact that the extraction is lacking at the moment leading to the air being visibly full of chalk dust in the main area. I've coughed up phlegm after my sessions the past couple weeks, not ideal. Other than that it's got great climbs and sound staff so can't complain there.

Great setup with some brilliant child-friendly sections plus some full-on challenging bits. Staff were all professional and keen to share the love of climbing. Our induction was well presented with an ideal mix of gravity and humour. I'd recommended this place in a heartbeat.

Took myself and my 9yr old for an induction to bouldering. Excellent facilities. Great coffee, very helpful and cheerful staff. Didn't feel intimidated or out of my league. All levels of climbers were there at the same time.

Fantastic bouldering wall with loads of interesting problems for all abilities. The routesetters are some of the best in the area, the staff are all super friendly, the other climbers are really nice, the food is awesome, the coffee's good, the sofas are comfy... Literally nothing not to like! If you're an older climber (40+), I'd also recommend trying Frank's 'Older and Boulder' session on Thursday mornings (10am). It's really relaxed and Frank's a great instructor. Also it's only a fiver and you get a free cuppa!

My girlfriend and I visited for our first time bouldering yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We signed up to the induction class and our instructor Bonnie was incredibly welcoming and supportive. We were free to stay as long as we liked after the induction and so we ended up staying for another hour (we couldn’t manage much more probably due to poor technique!) We will both be visiting again very soon. The community feel and positive vibes were very evident throughout the entire experience! The cafe was very vibrant and certainly helpful when we both needed to rehydrate! (There is free tap water!) Would recommend to anyone looking to get into climbing as a hobby!

Simply wonderful. The staff are kind and very helpful and are happy to answer questions. The areas are varied and often updated. Everything is very clean and tidy. The cafe area has lots of options for food and drink including vegan options. There coffee is very nice and the seating is comfortable.

My favorite climbing gym even after leaving Southampton. The climbing walls are regularly changed and have walls for a variety of abilities. There is also a slide which I am yet to find at another climbing gym. Staff are friendly. Food is delicious, better than a lot of cafes. Some times they have weird events like a plank challenge or goat yoga. Went here on a first date with my girlfriend and been back many times. We’ve been together for 4+ years now all credited to this phenomenal gym. If I had taken her to Pure Gym I guarantee we wouldn’t be together so cancel your membership, once you go bouldershack, you’ll never go back.

Excellent place to climb! They give an induction for the first timers and it is informative. You can then keep climbing for as long as you want. It's an addictive experience so will keep coming back to it. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There is also gym to work out for climbing. You can rent the climbing shoes here and they are a must for climbs. There are lockers and cupboard to keep your things. Cafe and toilets are available inside.

A climbing centre with community as a major focus. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful. Good spread of difficulty in grades, you may feel there aren't many super hard projects set on the walls but for more confident climbers there are also 3 training boards at 15, 30 and 45° overhang to really push you hard if that project of yours isn't suiting you. The training boards also have a good number of routes on the companion app, (as of writing about 700 problems between the 3 of them) so you don't have to make up your own problems if you're not feeling imaginative. There are regular competitions as part of their "mega series" which culminate in a grand final once a year, which is a great event. Other events include small seasonal markets (such as Christmas markets), clothes swaps, and more. Their setting is regular and frequent, usually once a week a section of the centre is reset with a range of grade difficulties. The problems are almost always friendly to short climbers, as the head route setter isn't ginormous. The regular climbers there are also great and friendly, a true reflection of the staff and ownership of the centre. Indoor temperatures are very much weather dependent (very hot in summer, quite chilly on cold days in the winter) but that's just the nature of the building, insulating it or setting up air-conditioning would cost a fortune and if you're busy climbing you don't get cold, might take a while to warm up is all. Really love the place and highly recommend it.

Just brilliant I haven’t been to a climbing centre like this before. The sense of community is great. The walls themselves change a lot and there is a lot of space to climb so your not always waiting. There is a cafe and social area for when you go in groups. This is a seriously cool thing going on.

Been here for the second time now. We like it a lot. Everyone is friendly. Kids area is very creative. We can spend 2h easily more likely 3h. Today was a bit busier and some areas were being redone. However we had enough room to worry about our own climbing. Great to have a heated warm up room. Anytime again.

Great bouldering gym with some roped climbing, staff are attentive and there's a great community here. The one downside is that this is a fairly expensive place to go for a single session, I recommend getting a membership of your thinking of going weekly.

Small kids area for climbing, but adequate. Good for beginners as well as the more experienced. Good atmosphere. Nice food & chill-out area.

I was a judge for YCS at Boulder Shack this morning. I can’t believe this was my first visit. What a cool boulder gym. Great routes, great vibe and super friendly staff. Can’t wait to come back and climb myself!!
