Hell no. As a vegetarian I had hope but HELL NO. The host clearly has an after work acting class and loves attention. He was nice enough to shout out that he’d had a vasectomy… The food was bland. Small portions and ok prices. Like most “vegetarian” places, they try too hard for unique, over the top hipster recipes that miss the mark on taste, ending up generic sameness. The service is unholy slow. We sat through generations of chickens before we got our one egg. They tried too hard for a statement and ended up lost in mediocrity. Fifty minutes for our order of one hot cake and one egg. Fifty minutes. NOT ONCE DID OUR SERVER CHECK ON US OR UPDATE US or even refill our drink. FIFTY MINUTES. Nothing better than self indulgent, self righteous slow mediocrity…… My advice to the restaurant: forget your ego centric zealously and go take a YouTube culinary class. Do. Not. Go. Here. UPDATE. Never saw our server again. Had to beg for our check. My partners food was inedible. We left and literally went across the street to portage bay. Thank goodness there’s at least one restaurant on the block.

This place has the best most nourishing, most positive energy food you can find. My parents came here in the 70s. I started coming here in the 80s. I still think it’s the best!

Really great vibe and nice vegetarian food. I had the vegan highlander, which was filling and tasty. Also, they are really on point with refilling coffee and water. I also tried one of their cocktails—rum based one with coconut milk and cinnamon. Very tasty as well.

I'm so glad this place has survived - the food, service, and atmosphere are all excellent. I usually come for breakfast/brunch, but I've enjoyed all the food I've eaten. As a vegan, there are always a ton of options, including the yummy desserts. Totally worth it every time.

Girlfriend and I were looking for a good vegan/vegetarian spot to try out new food and study at. We came across this spot while surfing the web and gave it shot. We were both very impressed! The inside is filled with local artist’s art that are sellable (able to be purchased) and not for sale. It was a very awesome experience and the atmosphere is very upbeat! Staff was amazing and their food was delightful! Even their desserts were top notch. I loved everything about this place and can’t wait to try out more of their menu! Would definitely recommend.

Great Little place with covered outside seating, local beers on tap and a great selection of food. Friendly service and fast. The only negative is no outside heating.🥶

We came here after 2 places couldn’t seat us for Sunday brunch. We waited about 10 minutes. There’s indoor and outdoor seating but it’s a pretty small place. We were seated at a booth with cracked cushions. We all ordered drinks which were very reasonably priced. I had a chai rum coconut milk cocktail and when we complained about the chunky coconut milk they offered to blend it for us. The food was quite bland, unfortunately. The potatoes were more soft than crispy and not really seasoned. The portions were about as expected. Our waiter took a break and left us unattended for a long time. Overall, it was fine but not a place I’d go back to again.

Really good Vegan food. Went for Sunday Brunch. We sat right down. The kitchen was busy, so we had plenty of time to read the menu and decide on the Euripedes platter and the Vegan hash special. With a busy kitchen, our order took a while, but it's Sunday, it's Brunch, it's takes time to enjoy.

Had a wonderful brunch experience. Service was top notch and friendly and the food was delicious. This is an all vegan restaurant and the quality was great. The potatoes were seasoned really well!

Be weary of takeout/pickup orders, service is slow and they didn't respect the ETA that's given I ordered from Uber Eats for pickup and I arrived about 5 minutes before the absolute latest that the app suggests the order will take (restaurant is able to see this ETA by the way). There's about a dozen or so folks here, so not incredibly busy. I asked how long it would take and the hostess says 10 minutes after briefly talking with the chefs. Sure, 5 minutes over ETA is fine. I wait 20 minutes at the bar and I still haven't gotten the order. They haven't given me updates either, so I ask the hostess again for an ETA and get an answer from the chef "we're working on it", not giving me useful information. After another almost 10 minutes I finally get the order (totalling almost 30 MINUTES past the original ETA). It seems like they prioritize the sitting guests tbh. The food itself was OK. The vegetable and Tofu dish had a lot of sauce so the rice soaked it all and was pretty salty. The Tempe burger was missing grilled onions that I ordered. One of the buns was also a bit stale because they dropped one and didn't give ample time for the replacement one to get moist. What frustrated me the most about this is that the staff was not very busy (chatting amongst each other) and they seemed to have ignored or forgot about the ETA they provided. I was very visibly there at the bar and the hostess walked past me a couple times. They also didn't feel apologetic that they were making me wait such a long amount of time. I felt no empathy from them and felt quite disrespected. Not going here again.

Wow, I have been meaning to try this place and I'm so glad I finally did! I ordered the Huevos Picante for lunch and the portion size is pretty big, it's super flavorful with lots of yummy sauces, toppings, and sides. Staff seems very friendly and fun and I only had to wait 15 minutes for my food. I will definitely be back to try more things on the menu! If you're considering this trying place, DEFINITELY give it a shot, you won't regret it!

Shoutout to our server Conan who provided the BEST customer service I have ever received. He warmly and enthusiastically welcomed us into the restaurant and from there was an absolute rock star of a server. So lighthearted and positive and attentive. He spreads joy through his interactions and he is exactly what the world needs right now. Thank you Conan for making our morning so enjoyable! The food (Vegan Highlander) was cooked to perfection- these folks know how to make home fries! Lots of flavor, unique dish, and generous portion. Coffee was excellent too. And the space is beautiful and bright, lots of color and plants. Had such a lovely morning here and looking forward to my next visit.

I wish I could give this place a 10 start review. I am totally obsessed and in LOVE with their spiced butter french toast & home fries! I went here for the first time recently with a friend and we were both so SHOCKED by how amazing the food is! The service was exceptional as well. I had thought I ordered home fries with my french toast (turns out I either didn't or the waiter forgot to put them on - either way, I wasn't mad at all!) and I mentioned it to our waiter that I thought I had ordered home fries with the french toast, he wasn't sure but I asked if I could please have an order. I thought I'd have to wait 10-15 minutes for them after I had already got my french toast but NOPE! It was at my table within 3 minutes - I was shocked! Hot and fresh. I have begged my husband to come try it with me and I hope it's soon! This place is a must in my books! :) Will bring all my friends and family here for sure.

There's something about a hot cup of Yogi tea and the best tahini sauce you'll ever have anywhere that can bring me back to that magical time in my life when I was about 26 years old. Now I'm 60 years old and I continue to support and frequent sunlight Cafe as much as possible. Everything is so delicious. I finally ordered something other than the brown rice with tahini and the lovely starter salad this morning. Instead I ordered the special three tacos with scrambled eggs and salsa and vegetables and then I first had to lather them with tahini sauce and salsa. Thank you Sunlight Cafe for continuing to be a bright spot in the community 65th and Roosevelt as well as in my life.

Easily the best vegetarian place in Seattle. It’s full of old hippies that know. It avoids being trendy or foodie, with what I’m guessing is the same menu since the 1970s. Great outdoor seating area where you can have your dog. They cater to vegetarians but have substitutes for vegans, like tofu instead of egg and cheese substitutions. I hope they never change or become super popular, the place is perfect.

I love this place.. been going there for almost 20 years. The new location is great. It's right behind the old spot. Still by far the best vegan spot in town. ... and the owners are pretty awesome 😉 love you Cheryl!

Went here the other day after not going for maybe 7 years. We were able to get some outdoor seating and enjoy the weather. We used to go here sometimes when I was growing up. I was pleased to see that even though the location has changed, the food has not changed at all. The nut burger is great and the polenta dishes. They have a nice selection of drinks as well. This place reminds me of the seattle I grew up in and I’m so happy to see they are still in business.

We've been going to the Sunlight for amazing vegan breakfasts for 22 years. Yes there is a wait but it's worth it. Yes the waitstaff is unique and walks to the beat of their own drum. Embrace it, you'll have a delicious meal. Yes the place has vegan and vegetarian options that will not disappoint even the most discerning of eaters. Breakfast: Have the Vegan Highlander! The pancakes and waffle offerings are also delicious.

My family's absolute favorite vegan / vegetarian breakfast place. They have gluten free options and they can sub egg for tofu and cow cheese for vegan cheese. Some staff are very friendly. Some are a little introverted but not unfriendly. Overall we always have an excellent experience

Great food I love it. Came for breakfast once and had some waffles, maybe I was just hungry but dang those were some of the best waffles I've ever had. Had some enchiladas here one time too and that was tasty. All in all a great place to eat at, will fill you up, and there are great vegetarian and vegan options too.

The longest running vegetarian restaurant in Seattle, now in it's 3rd location, and owned by the next generation of the family. Highly recommended! Food was pretty amazing, I’ll give them that. Zero complains about the delicious food. ❤️ Took two stars off due to pretty poor service. Had to wait extended periods of time several times to get check, get credit card swiped, get coffee/water refills, get ketchups, etc. It wasn’t that busy so I’m not sure where our server was (nowhere to be seen in restaurant). Not sure if the servers are doubling as cooks or have other tasks? (Would have understood one long delay but this was almost every time we requested something.) Wouldn’t have been a big deal but we only had one afternoon to explore Mt. Rainier before having to travel home, and the delays severely cut into our schedule and really bummed out us. Totally get Covid makes life hectic and Im sure they’re also preparing to go orders, and would definitely come back to give them another chance and for the great food, but only on a day I have extra free time where delays aren’t detrimental.

Nicely lit, high ceiling restaurant with good vegetarian/vegan menu. The staff members were very welcoming and friendly. Their pancakes with blueberries were super fluffy and decadent. Enchiladas with eggs and cheese with a side of house fries were also good, but lacked seasoning. Liked the vibe of the place and the specials keep changing, so will come back to try something new.

A long time favorite place. Love the tahini dressing, and brown rice salad. I want to give 5 stars- generally the food and service is awesome (I've been going for 20 years!). But two or three times the last year or two, the food wasn't cooked (potatoes undercooked) and service was slow. Today, I was asked to hold for "a few minutes", the person seemed stressed. I ordered, they said 25 minutes or so.. So I will leave it at 4 stars, and hoping I get a great meal like so many times before!
