Well maintained garden area is there to relax yourself after walk around the place. At entry you can find a place, to know more about bird chirping and types of the birds can seen inside the sanctuary. Beware of monkeys around if you have any food inside they catch you. You should have a boat trip (must to do), to watch the birds and crocodiles in the lake. There are three islands covered with all different birds and those well described by the people in the boats. You find crocodiles resting on the rocks always. Boats will take you near to them. My kid had enjoyed much to watch birds and crocodiles very near to her.

One of the best bird watching, one day family picnic places near Mysore and Bangalore. A lot of exotic birds and crocodiles can be seen. Boat ride is must. Nice garden and canteen facility too. There is a souvenir shop inside the premise too. Very well maintained. Must visit during holidays

This place has improved by leaps and bounds since I last visited this place. For starters it's a lot cleaner now, the walkways are painted, there are more viewing towers. In fact they even have more boats and a proper queuing system in place now. The Gardens are also in much better shape now. The primary attraction is though the Boating and seeing birds and crocodiles. You won't be disappointed in this area so go ahead get that ticket+boating entry. They also help for wheelchair bound people to enjoy the Boating. There is a small restaurant outside near parking if you get hungry. Finally the parking is large and can accommodate a lot of cars. Washrooms are clean on premises. Entry fees are Rs.50 per car and if u take Boating it's a total of Rs.175.

One of my favourite places to bird. The boat ride lasts about 45 minutes. October to March is a good season as you get to see migratory birds. Avoid weekends. Only issue is that it opens at 9am. It should open at 6am for better birding

This is a beautiful bird sanctuary and big islands to accommodate as many birds as possible. The sanctuary has clean toilets. And many dustbins to throw all the garbage which is a good thing. If people are more mindful and uses the facilities properly the park can be much more cleaner and plastic free. There is a small souvenir shop for picking up anything from magnets , clothes , edibles and display items. This season birds are flying in the bird sanctuary in full swing. So many birds and crocodiles. The tickets for adults are 150 rupees and the best time to go there is evening between 4-6. It is cool and silent except the chirping of birds. Camera price above 200mm is 600 rupees. It depends on the camera lens. We took a special boat for 4 of us and only we 4 of us went in a boat with the staff. It was a wonderful experience. The ticket price for special Indian boat is 2000 (probably 500 rupees per head) please do check at the tickets counter , might depend on number of people.

A wonderful place to spend sometime with family / friends. The entry ticket is 75 and there is ample parking space. They also take you on a boat ride for 100 whereby you can see the birds closer. There is lots of space to walk and sit and spend time. Good place to take good pictures. There is also a good vegetarian canteen.

Very nice location to go to, and nice to go when you are visiting Mysore. The park is well maintained and when taking the boat ride you feel that the birds are free to go where ever they want. I think the area is much bigger then what they show but it was enough to get a good impression.

My recent visit to the bird sanctuary with boating was a serene escape into nature's aviary. The sanctuary's diverse bird species, ranging from vibrant songbirds to graceful waterfowl, provided a captivating spectacle for bird enthusiasts. The unique addition of boating allowed for an immersive experience, bringing visitors closer to the feathered residents in their natural habitat. Drifting along the calm waters, surrounded by the soothing sounds of nature, added an extra layer of tranquility to the bird-watching adventure. This sanctuary with boating is a delightful retreat, seamlessly combining the joys of avian exploration with the peacefulness of a leisurely boat ride.

A MUST Go in Mysore. The boat ride was so amazing and enjoyable. I have been to Mexico to watch wild flamingos and in Hong Kong wetlands watching the migratory birds. However, nothing can be compared to this bird-watching experience. We were so close to so many birds - tens of thousands - it's the peak season in March. Also the variety of birds is just impressive - different types of storks, pelicans, spoonbills etc. You see them feeding their chicks, building their nests, mating, flying across the water with their beautiful wings stretching out.

We visit the bird sanctuary in the last week of November and it’s the starting season of migration. The weather was amazing and we took the private open boat option. Pricing Private : 2000 rupees for a family General : 175 rupees per person There were not a lot of birds. We saw pelican, Japanese birds and a few other local migratory ones with a lot of crocodiles. Would recommend coming in January for viewing the migratory birds. Overall a must visit place and had an amazing experience!

Refreshing place in the Summertime picnic. First time when I was in Metric Class and enjoyed the boat 🚤 ride and crocodiles🐊 This time 🕰️ it is totally different experience as I watched so many birds and it’s birdsong, bird nest, catching fish, bird drinking water. Visit the Dr. Salim Ali information centre before entering into the sanctuary. Birds characteristic, different beaks, its colour, Birds hatching 🐣, baby birds, Birds testing the tree branches to build the nest🪺 🪹 Watching point like tower and sitting benches, rest rooms are maintained well. Shopping centre is not having anything related birds. You can easily spend one day if you are really an occasional Birdwatcher. I spent 3 hours but definitely I will visit again only for Ranganathittu only. Kids really do enjoy the crocodiles and boat ride. Don’t miss to have an ice-candy over there. Car parking fee isn’t good.

Absolutely loved it here. Check out the crocodile pictures and videos I have attached at the very least. The entrance fee is 75 per person for the park itself. For the boat ride which I would suggest you do the same is 100. Please do this early in the morning or in the evening as you will see birds leaving for food in the morning or coming back in the evening. There are many crocodiles in the area too 🐊. One is of 15 feet in length. The bask on top of the rocks in front of you. You will easily catch 15 different types of birds on top of trees here. For this we have to thank Dr Salim Ali for pushing the Mysore King for preservation of this area. The boat ride is excellent with the guide , guiding you around.

2 hours drive from ORR in Bangalore, this is an ideal spot for a quick getaway. Ideal time to visit this Bird Sanctuary is Jan - Feb. One can see a wide variety of migratory birds - Pelicans and Black head Ibis. There are many crocodiles in the lake as well. Park is ideal for family to stroll through.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is a beautiful and well-maintained sanctuary that is home to a wide variety of birds. The best time to visit is during the monsoons, when the sanctuary is at its most vibrant. There are many different types of birds to see, including pelicans, storks, cormorants, egrets, and herons. You can also see crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks of the river. The sanctuary is divided into six islets, which can be explored by boat. The boat ride is a great way to get up close to the birds and see them in their natural habitat. There are also several viewing platforms where you can watch the birds without disturbing them. The sanctuary is well-maintained and clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. If you are a bird-watcher or simply enjoy nature, then Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is a must-visit. Pros: Wide variety of birds Beautiful scenery Well-maintained and clean Friendly and helpful staff Cons: Can be crowded during peak season Boat ride can be a bit pricey Overall: Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is a great place to visit for bird-watchers and nature lovers alike. The sanctuary is well-maintained and has a wide variety of birds to see. The boat ride is a great way to get up close to the birds and see them in their natural habitat. I highly recommend visiting Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary if you are in the area.

Really beautiful, soothing and affordable place. Pros. 1. Really beautiful and natural place. 2. Quite affordable. Per person ₹ 200-300 is more than enough. 3. Boating is really good. 4. So many different types of birds. 5. Crocodiles were really posing for camera. 😂 Cons. 1. Only thing is food options can be increased.

Great serene place to explore and bird watch. Lot of crocodiles in the lake and super thrilling to go up close on the boat. Friendly staff to take you around the boat for just 40/head. They have a souvenir shop for collecting gifts and a canteen for food. Come here and chill to explore the various immigrant birds. Will recommend if you are visiting Mysore.

If you like birds, or are a birder, you must visit this place. Jan to March is the best time if you want to see nesting behaviour of Spot-billed Pelicans, Spoonbills, Painted Storks, various heron and egret species, Little and Indians cormorants, Stone Curlews or Thick-knees, and River Terns. There are several other species as well, though they are a bit difficult to spot on the walking trails. There are 2-3 bird watching towers for photography and birding. There is also a well created but small information centre that's interactive and engaging. Boating is available for large groups and small - you can hire a special boat for your group at 2000rs. The boatmen help you identify the birds as well. Marsh crocodiles resting on rocks is a grand sight too. There is a long walking/hiking trail, children's play areas, a food court+canteen serving simple fare, a sweet corn booth, and a sugarcane stall. Toilets are clean and there's a baby care room as well. Pets are not allowed. Entry tickets cost Rs.75 per adult, plus camera fees up to Rs.600 if you are carrying a DSLR.

It was a pleasant experience. I. I visited this place for the third time but after a long gap. There is lot of good changes. The park is very big, very calm, watch towers and lot of trees. Even the boating line was very well managed. Birds that we could see during boating: 1) Asian Open billed stork 2) painted stork 3) pelican 4) oriental darter 5) cormorant 6) river tern 7) kingfisher And definitely crocodiles🤪 Fee to keep in mind: -Rs 60: Entry at the gate -Rs 75 (adult) : entry to the park -Rs 100 (adult) : boating (this is little expensive I felt, may be revised rate. Boating takes max of 20 min or less) Anyway. It’s a good visit with kids and family.

A must visit place. Great for photographers, nature lovers, to educate kids. The best time to visit is early morning. Before 9am is the only time you can take a special boat. One has to take a boat ride to see birds and crocodiles up close. Dec jan is the breeding season to most of the migratory birds. So you can catch a glimpse of young ones in their nests. Facilities are decent. There is also a souvenir shop.

Excellent place to go along with kids especially on week days. The play area and boat ride is too good. Week end and public holidays normal waiting period is 45 min for boat. A small eatery shop available near by boat riding place. Ticket cost for entry is 100 Rs for adult and boat ride is 100 Rs for adults and 35 for kids. Separate boat for a family can hire for 2000rs.

Good place to visit with family or kids. There is a sort of park around the water body to rest and play for kids. There is manual oar based boating in the lake which takes you close to the many different types of birds. You can also see crocodiles Parking is ample and spacious. Trees provide shade to car

Very beautiful, clean, green and less crowded place. We visited it in morning in Jan. There were lots of birds, probably because it was migratory season. It opens around 8.30-9. The boat ride is must do, they take you close to the islands and you can spot crocodiles and birds very nicely. Also please don't worry about crocodiles.. it is quite safe

Whether you love birds or not you will be so fascinated. Living in a concrete jungle most of our days this place reminds how peaceful nature is and how important co living and ecosystems are. Best time to visit according local experts is mid December to January. Most common all through the year bird is Pelican. Other common birds include cormorants, spoonbills, Indian fruit bats and lots of crocodiles. The sanctuary is mostly kept undisturbed. Let’s keep this place safe and secure for generations to come. DO NOT DISTURB THE BIRDS/ CROCS with loud sounds.

Very nice place.. very clean. Went to see some birds but this is off season.. got to see a few birds, saw 2 river otters, some fruit bats, crocodiles and 5 to 6 species of birds.. Row boating is 100/- per head, kids is 75/- and is about 20 minutes, boatman 'Nagaraj' works there from last 15 years and has a good knowledge of all the species. There huge trees inside, peaceful to sit and enjoy the bird sounds.

Our visit to this location with friends and kids was memorable. The boating experience was truly incredible, providing glimpses of crocodiles and a variety of birds. The children were thrilled observing avian and reptilian inhabitants. Additionally, there's a kids' play area and a petite glass bridge offering a unique walking experience, though the glass is visibly scratched. The expansive lawn area adds to the overall charm.

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary (also known as Pakshi Kashi of Karnataka), is a bird sanctuary in the Mandya District of the state of Karnataka in India. It is the largest bird sanctuary in the state, 40 acres (16 ha) in area, and comprises six islets on the banks of the Kaveri river.Ranganathittu is located 3 kilometers from the historic town of Srirangapattana and 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) north of Mysore. The sanctuary attracted about 3 lakh visitors during 2016–17.Ranganathittu's islets were formed when an embankment across the Kaveri river was built between 1645 and 1648 by the then king of Mysore, Kanteerava Narasimharaja Wadiyar. These islets, originally numbering 25, soon started attracting birds. The ornithologist Salim Ali observed that the islets formed an important nesting ground for a large variety of birds, and persuaded the king of Mysore to declare the area a protected area in 1940. The sanctuary is currently maintained by the Forest Department of Karnataka and efforts are ongoing to improve the sanctuary, including purchasing nearby private land to expand the protected area. In 2014, around 28 square km around the sanctuary was declared as an eco-sensitive zone, meaning that certain commercial activities cannot take place without the government’s permission

A pleasant escape into a green canopy. A well preserved bird sanctuary that one can escape into, from the bursting cities and pollution. A soothing boat ride on the calm waters and the view of various species of birds flying, nesting, bathing, catching prey or just lazily perched on a branch or a twig is mesmerizing. Crocodiles, bats and tiny animals add charm to this nature's beauty. It is like winning a lottery for wildlife and nature photography lovers. The boats sail pretty close to most of the islands although, stepping on those islands is strictly prohibited. There are a few pathways and benches amid the green on the mainland, to either take a stroll or sit back and enjoy the chirping of birds and other pleasant sounds of nature. There are a few watch towers to enjoy the view if one is not hydrophobic. There is a souvenir shop, a small bird museum , a few food carts and a canteen.

An absolute gem of a place amidst nature. There are 31 species of Birds that you can find here during season between October and February. I went here few days back which is actually not a season however I was still able to spot a lot of birds, crocodiles and various flora. I took the boat ride and clicked some amazing pictures and was able to look the animals and birds from a closer distance. A must visit place to go when you are in Mysuru and specially during season time.

Spectacular view of some grand water birds of India in their most natural setting and during to the best of times (nesting period) - painted storks, open billed storks, cormorants were in huge numbers while grey herons, night herons and some beautiful smaller birds were also seen. The crocodiles were there too and one was a giant. Don’t miss the boat rides to get a up close view.

Fantastic place. Superbly maintained. The park opens at 8:30am. Parking ₹75 per car, each individual needs park entry ticket. Boating charges separately. You can have a private boat (smaller and goes most of the right places) or shared boat. Dec to April is best time of the year to visit. A lot of migratory birds you can see - primarily pelicans and storks. You can see a lot of other birds too including grey hornbills, flycatchers and so on. Numerous parakeets and kingfishers too!

I visited this place with my family. It is a life time experience. It is a perfect example of nature's ecosystem. How the food chain is balanced. Irrespective of whether you are a nature lover or not, you will like this place. The rare migratory bird nest, their chicks, crocodile, fish all are amazing. Earlier only i saw such things in the Discovery channel but when I reached there i saw the real food chain through my naked eyes. I would suggest a must visit place in the lifetime.

Nice in summers or winters. Car parking is available. Crocs are the major attraction. Pretty safe as a place to visit with family and enjoy. Takes around 2-3 hours to go around. If you love watching birds time it around July.

There has been lot of recent development at the sanctuary. A new watch tower has been added atop the maharaja viewpoint mound...the view is amazing. Work is in progress for a glass floor bridge which is almost nearing completion . Soon a battery car is being planned to take a tour around the park ....but I just love to stroll around...have been here the 6th time and still enjoy it.

This Bird Sanctuary is truly a feast for eyes , maintained in its original natural status and the the true wild life experience.First time spotted River Otters playing freely in the waters of the sanctuary.Hundreds and thousands of birds of Different species. But one suggestion to the Sanctuary authorities is to take vigilant care ,as spotted some littered plastic bottles and garbage by the insane tourists (Which is the salient feature of Indian tourists in particular),which needs strict spot actions against such nonsense people. Also ,there are some small artificial pools and ponds are constructed in the sanctuary garden, but the way they are built and painted ,totally mismatch with the otherwise Natural surrounding of the nature itself. All blue painted stone borders of the ponds ,gives an eye sour experience. They should study and design such artificial creations by studying International Standards.Itjerwise this Sanctuary is truly a must visit destination.

Nice place if you are visiting this place you should carry good DSLR camera or Gopro but if you are using the phone you can't capture the birds with high quality. Most importantly you must go boating that you will enjoy it.

Wonderful place to spend some tome and get away from the heat and you get so see some amazing birds, however please visit from November to February as theses are the seasons of the birds. Important note : they do not accept gpay or card as a mode of payment for entry into the sanctuary. There is a lot of parking available so nothing to worry about over there. Food is available at the facility but doesn’t look appealing. The sanctuary is well maintained and they also have boat rides available.

I visited this place recently. It was a refreshing trip specially during this pandemic times. There is a lake in the sanctuary which provides boating and bird watching at a reasonable rates. Main attraction I felt were the crocodiles crawling around in the lake. There are small man made islands which houses many migratory birds and specially crocodiles(huge ones). It’s a delight to watch these creatures. There is a small park which runs along the lake. Even the park boasts of its rare species of trees. There is an entry fee separately into the sanctuary. The local officials suggested that best time to visit the sanctuary is between October to December, because that is the time you will notice huge number different species of migratory birds. It’s peaceful half a day getaway from Bangalore.

A must visit place if you are a bird enthusiast. Even if you are not , you may become one after visiting this place. On facilities vise it is quite good. Only thing is that they charge for parking which I feel is not fair. Also they charge extra if you take DSLR cameras . The charging rate is also based on type of DSLR you carry. The trees present here are labelled by their scientific names which is quite informative. There is also boat ride available for a seperate ticket for it but it's worth it.

If you want to hide from all those city space and immerse into the world of birds here we go .. Lots of pelican,Stork, cormorant, egrets etc.perfect place for photography but there is a charge of 600 rupees lenses greater than 200mm. They are offering boat service through lake which costs around 100rupee per person. There are some crocodiles also we could see in that river.

We had hired a boat and went in the morning. It was a very pleasant experience. The boat man was extremely knowledgeable and patient with us and showed us the sights of the lake and small islands teeming with different varieties of birds. And the lake had many crocodiles too ..all of which shied away from us.The park surrounding the lake had a watch tower, glass bridge and butterfly park too. All in all very enjoyable experience for kids and adults alike.

Had a spectacular view of various birds and crocodile from a very close distance. The person who took us in boat was well informed about the birds also about photography and angles

Infrastructure has improved a great deal in the years past for this place. Place is well maintained and bird watching is by boat ride. There are many elevated points from where you can observe birds as well. Carrying a good binoculars is a good idea. Dslr camera is charged extra during entry. Park has been maintained pretty decent. Earlier you reach in the day better to get maximum birds and queues for boat rides will be minimal. Plenty of parking space is available.

Beautiful bird sanctuary, with amazing parking space, neat and clean gardens, but the best thing is boating service. Visited there in October and is the best time of the year as migrated birds are present which adds to the scenic beauty. Park entry and boating was around ~₹180, and separate for parking as well. There is buggy ride as well and you get enough eateries inside.

I like being in the wilderness amongst flora and fauna. Ranganathittu is a good spot a day outing. Takes about 4 hours from BLR and you have places to visit nearby too. Their boat ride was the best. The guides are well trained and they ensure that you leave with a smile and good info about the birds that reside in the sanctuary.

Nice place for family outing for half a day. We'll connected from Bangalore thru well maintained roads. Ample parking available. Main attraction is the boating ride. You can easily spot crocodiles and many migratory birds. It is recommended to visit in 2nd half as one can see a lot of birds resting on trees during evening. Only minus is that the boat guides only talks in local language so do your study before going. I am sharing ticket charges and few photos.

A very nice place to visit with family. Well maintained park with kids play area. There is sufficient parking space with a canteen for some refreshment. Boating experience is very interesting. We can see several crocodiles moving in the water. Variety of birds can be seen on each and every island. Obviously, I recommend visiting this place on week days to have pleasant time. Weekends can make you wait near the boating area.

Awesome place for bird lovers. Very peaceful and you can expect a lot of migratory birds coming to this place. You can watch the birds sitting on the trees closely by taking the boat ride they offer. Feel lucky if you see the crocodiles around, as not many are there. It's thrilling to see the crocs passing by near the boats. Being said that, do not put your hands inside the water, as it could be very dangerous. Clean pay & use toilets, an apparel shop and a canteen are there inside the campus. The entry fee and the boating charges are a little on the higher side, but no other option to watch the birds closely. Although, you have an option to sit on the benches and enjoy your visit peacefully.

A great place to visit if you like crocodiles or birds!! The place is teeming with birds and the Marsh Crocodiles. If you are lucky you might even spot the occasional water monitor there!! Birds from the northern hemisphere come here to rear their next generation. The density and variety of birds is stunning. Best around Feb & March. But do look up Google for other period's sightings. There are also crocodiles lazing around. No safety issues. There aren't interested in humans unless you try to squeeze into their mouths.

Wonderful haven for the Water Birds. They visit the Renganthittu Area every year to nest, bring up the young ones, social bonding and fly back to their native places. I feel that February to May remains the peak season to see plethora of activities of these beautiful creations of the God Nature. We normally see here - Grey and Pink Pelicans, Spoon Bills, Night, Grey and Pond Herons, Small and Big White Egrets, Painted Storks, Adjutant Cranes, Small and Big Cormorants, Dart (Snake-neck) Birds, and so on. We may see plenty of Fresh Water Crocodiles too either swimming or lying on the rocks. A no-miss place to nature lovers when they visit Our Mysore.

The best time is in March when lots of birds varieties can be visible.

This bird sanctuary is the paradise for bird lovers (ornithologist). You have seasonal and migratory birds making this their sanctuary before they move on. We were lucky to spot exotic and rare species of birds. The lake is deep and has close to 50 crocodiles. You definitely can spot them too resting on the rocks in the middle of the lake. The boating service takes you on a your for 30 minutes and you will sight the birds and their fledgling effortlessly. The boating fee is charged over and above the exhorbitant entrance fee to the sanctuary.

The bird sanctuary is worth visiting. Located not very far from Srirangapatna on the way to KRS Dam. We had visited in the month of Feb. We were told the season was about to get over, but we were able to see thousands of birds across various continents. The entire area presented a serene atmosphere in the midst of Kavery backwaters. The facilities for tourists is nicely maintained with ample car parking. The boating facilities are the major attractions whereby you can go near the trees used by the birds for nesting. You can also see crocodiles in natural habitat form.

Without any doubt, one of the best bird Sanctuary of karnataka! Specially the season between September to Feb, you will be able to spot great many winter migratory wading birds! The last boating rider is by 5-5.30,so please make sure you arrive before that.

Very good place if you love to take walk with nature..visit in morning only.. You can go for a boat ride at the river and the islets as there are many boats with experienced guides and oarsmen available at the sanctuary. It offers you not just with a breath-taking scenic beauty but also with glimpses of a wide variety of beautiful birds as well. Visitors can enjoy guided boat rides and catch glimpses of crocodiles, bats, and otters along with birds. The bank of Cauvery River is also popular as picnic spots. Boating charges for Indians is Rs.50 per person while for foreigners it is Rs.300 per person. It is best to take a boat ride in the morning to witness the unparalleled natural beauty of the area. It is also ideal so as to avoid the crowd during the day. Best time to visit Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary The best time to visit the sanctuary is between the months of June and November as these are nesting month for the birds. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary Timings and Entry fee You can enter the sanctuary by paying a minimal amount of entry fee. The entry fee for Indians is Rs.50 per person while for visitors with nationality other than Indian, it is Rs.300 per person. The entry timings of Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary are from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.

A natural water dam. Also named as moti talab. A picnic spot provided safety at visitors risk. Only few small local refreshment shops available at place. Localities also consider it as a sacred lake. Myths and stories are heard regarding the lake. Not safe to visit after 5 pm. Local authorities have tried and maintained cleanliness but lack basic needs like dustbin. Most Visitors litter waste and disturb the beauty.

If you are with a huge camera you should go for a private boat which will cost you 1500 for 4 to 6 person and camera charges are different. The entry and parking fees are there. You can get some items in canteen to eat and drink. Do not go into the water so many crocodiles are there in the lake. It is the largest bird sanctuary in Karnataka. the sanctuary is situated on around 40 acres of space which was built by Mysore maharaja Kanteerava Narasimharaja Wadiyar in the year 1648.

I love this place, as the forest department is maintaining very nicely without polluting with motor boats. Still paddling boats are only used. The scenery n d the silence makes us to spend more time. Infact one should go for a morning boat ride to see the beautiful n varieties of migratory birds. Right time to visit is from November to march. Only difficulty is they have not introduced online booking of boats. Forest department should consider this matter to get more pilgrims.

Well maintained bird sanctuary with a great ambience for the birds to stay. Note that there are no caged birds and different kind of birds visit the place at different months. You can watch them up close by opting for a boat ride. You could plan to get lunch and have it inside the premises as there is ample space available. There is also a small canteen that serves food and ice-cream.

Lovely and peaceful three hours spent here! Those who are interested in birds can take the special boat ride which costs Rs. 1500 (4 members). Can see a lot of nesting birds. Good place overall. Good to see birds like Pelican, Storks etc. You can see Crocs from a close distance. But very much overpriced if u r a photographer shooting birds. Somehow I feel the people involved there have a tendency to earn more from tourist. We took a private boat (Rs 1500 for 30mins). While on the way our boatman (Yo**sh) asked if we want to extend by another 30mins, he can manage for 1000 instead of the standard 1500. Later he asked if we can just pay him 500, he can row for extra 30mins. We chose to stick to the tickets we bought. Didn't like the money extracting policy there.

For those who love to explore the nature, this is fantastic place. The island in the river has many variety of birds to enjoy. Also there crocodiles in the water body, maybe to safeguard the nature of the island. You can choose to go for Boating with public and also available to take a private boat. To keep the nature calm, the boats are managed without engine. During boating they give you brief of the birds which you can see and they are friendly. Overall, don’t miss this place during Mysore trip.

My poor cellphone camera got an inferiority complex seeing all the giant DSLRs in this place 😅 Jokes apart, this is a fantastic place to visit. December is said to be the ideal time as a lot of migratory birds show up. I showed up in the morning on a bright Saturday morning, with very few visitors about. The boat ride was enjoyable, as we were able to see the nests and hatchlings of a lot of birds. These wetlands are truly an ecological treasure. Kids will love this experience.

First of all the boating is amazing with all the islands, birds and crocodiles. The awesome thing about this place is the animals are very familiar with people and boats, they don't get spooked at all. We can see them in their natural state. Park is neatly maintained. The only downside is at the evening if it's is crowded, the boating will be rushed or few islands will be skipped. Superb place to spend a day/evening with family peacefully.

This was our umpteenth visit to this amazing place. We chose weekday to avoid crowds.. as expected we have had nice views and good discussions with guide. Place is really good and clean.. every time we come it has sone new feature. This time it was glass bridge, though there was nothing much underneath to see. If we were to pick up to things which can be improved, it would be the cleanliness of the toilets and time we get to spend with knowledgeable guides.. 15 minutes of just whistle stop tour which would enthrall regular crowd. But Tempe option for detailed one is very expensive and not feasible to do frequently.

The boat ride was Capital A-mazing with close views of over 20 varieties of birds in their natural habitat that migrate from all over the world. There are even crocodiles in the embankment that makes the tour even more thrilling. 70/- per person if you wait for 10 people to accumalate for a boat ride which is 15min, but preferably take the 1500/- for a personal boat ride for 30min, not everyday you visit the best bird sanctuary in your own neighbouring/home state.

Amazing place to go with family. Very affordable, untouched and very well maintained - from park to boating to toilets. Can use an ATM for sure. If you are near Srirangapatna or Mysore, please don't miss out Ranganathittu. The season is between January to June to see about 25 migratory bird species. Other seasons also have about 10 species. The boats are driven by well informed government appointed personnel who not only navigate the boat around but also act as guides who can tell you which bird you are seeing. Watch out for the crocodiles lying and relaxing on the islands or swimming beside you without a care in the world. As per the guides, they are harmless. All in all, a great destination for family and friends.

Located on the way back to Bangalore from Mysore, closer to mysore, this was the last place for my day trip. A perfect ending to the day by watching different types of birds, hearing melodious chirping of the birds along with a walk in their habitat was definitely a feel good experience. There is also a very big lake inside the sanctuary, some part of which is covered through a boating experience which also lets you see majestic crocodiles 🐊 in the water. This place is flooded with information of the different types of birds available and one can read and relate by seeing them.

  • 5/5 Vinayak Shenoy K. 2 years ago on Google
Located along the banks of Kaveri river and managed by Karnataka Forest department, this is a must visit place. There is ample parking space for which you've to pay ₹50. There are few hawker stalls selling light snacks and a small canteen serving vegetarian items. Coming to the Bird sanctuary, it's sprawling and serene. There is boating facility as well which takes one across the river and close to small islands where birds visit. Boating costs ₹100 and entry to the sanctuary costs ₹80. There is restrooms inside the park and well maintained.

This is an ultimate experience for bird and nature lovers. Kids will also enjoy this place. This place is less crowded and nearer to mysore compared to brindavan gardens. Should be in the bucket list for visit The boating is out of the world experience to see the island with all the birds. Pretty safe to do the boating. The place offers other play areas for kids.

Mini paradise on earth. If you are okay with crowd then take the boat ride, boat will take you close to crocodile busking area and pelican birds area. If not taken also fine, view is great from watch tower and side by areas. Caution: Govt is ridiculous to charge Rs600 from 200mm lens. So if you have just 250mm you need to pay 600 extra to take it inside, so dont waste money on that unless you have at least 400mm lens. Hornbill, flycatchers, pelicans, crocs, squirrels, cormorants, storks are mostly what you can expect to see.

  • 4/5 Vishwanath A. 2 years ago on Google

This sanctuary is home to a large number of pelicans and openbills. It's a delight for bird watchers. Boating around the small island is a must if you visit this place. The lake inside is home to a lot of crocodiles here (around 70 if I'm not wrong). You can find them swimming about while on the boat ride. I've attached some of the images that show this. Overall it's a nice place to hang out for half a day.
