Just completed the ~10 mile mullens cove loop yesterday. Beautiful and moderate hike with plenty of diversity in vegetation. We started the loop with the river view which I wouldn’t recommend as the final three miles were primarily up hill after an exhausting hike. Hiking along the river was beautiful though and you’ll enjoy it nonetheless. Lots of waterfalls and creek crossings. Trail is well marked and wasn’t overly crowded even on Memorial Day weekend. Check for ticks! Plenty were found on us during this hike.

Beautiful trails. I loooove this area. My secret local nature spot to spend time alone and with God.

Beautiful hike! Went mid January. Not real green.... but loved the mini waterfalls and ice off the rocks. Did not make it all the way to the big waterfall. But will most likely come back.

Good hike overall. One of the paths was blocked by a downed tree, so that trail ended prematurely. We went back the other way and another trail seemed to lead nowhere. Heard a couple of ATVs and a little noise from the shooting range nearby. But there was a Starbucks on the way back home and it was double star day. We couldn't even. 5/5 stars. Thanks Starbucks!

Although I did not hike as much of this trail as I wanted to, the trails that I did find myself on were poorly marked and easy to get lost on. If you do not mind taking it slow and quite a bit of looking around for trail markers then you will enjoy the hike. Also as a note, sections of this trail are highly rocky so keep this in mind before starting the trail.

Historic coal mining site. Good trails, not often traversed, so paths are small, more natural, and not as maintained (which is perfect for me). 3/5 on difficulty, do not wear flip flops. Parking for two cars, trailhead is hidden. And grab a brochure in the box so you know where all 11 historic sites are. Some ruins, some collapsed mines, a dried-up riverbed. Definitely a locals' spot.

Thanks to the park rangers putting the markers where needed. Nice trails and open space.
