Food was good. Service was kind of impersonable except one guy that may have been a manager. Lots of options with a very vast menu. Located near planet fitness and taco town across from Lowe’s. Pretty fish tank and umbrella decorations in front. Loved how on the menus it told you what place the dish originates from.

This place serves nothing but over-priced rubbish. The food is so bad that I didn't even want it so I bagged it up and took it to a public trash can so it wouldn't stink up my own garbage. The owners should be absolutely embarrassed to serve such garbage.

I work for Hamilton County 911 & we regularly do food runs to avoid the 2 fast food options accessible on our 30 minute lunch. We went to Formosa today and I have never had such a pleasant experience. They were hit with 10 online orders and a call-in all at the same time (not to mention their other customers placing orders as well). I was greeted with nothing but kindness and all the orders were bagged, labeled, & ready to go on arrival--including a sachet of requested accoutrements. AND help me load my vehicle. Great customer service and we appreciate it so much!

Pleasantly surprised with this place. The menu is mostly classic American Chinese but there are some unique selection too. Service was pleasant and price is pretty fair. Will definitely come back.

Our favorite Chinese restaurant in the Chattanooga area. Large portions. Great food and service. My family has been here several times and we've not been disappointed yet.

It was our first time in this restaurant. We havenΒ΄t had luck with any other Chinese restaurants in the area. But this one has been a great find. We were positively surprised. The staff was very friendly, the food was very tasty and the portions were just the perfect size. The price was an added surprise, as we both have eaten a wonderful lunch for barely $20 plus tip. And there is plenty of space for parking your vehicle, as it is located in a plaza with tons of parking spots. We will certainly go back. Without a doubt.

I just moved to Hixson from East Ridge, and wanted Chinese, so I looked for a local restaurant on Grubhub with good reviews. Formosa is very close with pretty quick delivery times and high rating. Delivery was great, so this has nothing to do with actual delivery, but the cost and quality of the food. Food was expensive, and bad. Not enough rice. No duck sauce for egg rolls, no soy sauce for boring, dry rice, and very little sauce for the sweet and sour chicken. Very little food for price. One dish cold. Horrible egg rolls. Just BAD! Only good thing were the fortune cookies, which were fresh and crunchy. I'd rather drive back to Chattanooga and go to Hunan Wok. Way more bang for your buck and WAY better food!

Nothing here but horrible food. To call is Chinese food is a disgrace to the Chinese culture. You can find better tasting "Chinese" food in the Trader Joe's frozen food section. Don't believe me? Go to Formosa and all you'll see are white folks in here - not a single Asian to be found. Why? Because Asians know good Asian food and this place is absolute trash.

We just moved here and got the recommendation from the Nextdoor App. I'll just say this... I've never had such fresh, delicious and accurate chinese food. I make it a point to at least eat here once a week(I've just recently started going) in order to try everything on the menu.. what we've had thus far has been phenomenal. my daughter wanted what MOST Chinese restaurants call "chicken on a stick" so I asked our waitress(which BTW.. they all are awesome) if they had it on the menu? she brought me out this volcano of skewers.. which my daughter had a blast eating!!😁 I wouldn't just write a novel of a review for nothing.. it goes to show how wonderful of a restaurant this is.. the only complaint is.. I wish their "lunch" menu was a wee bit cheaper.. considering it's only a dollar or so difference from dinner. oh and that ALL lunch entrees should include the option of soup or egg roll and rice. Thanks

Not what I expected. Ordered sweet and sour chicken, chow mein, and fried rice and didn't care for the taste compared to other traditional Chinese restaurants. The egg rolls were good though. I am sure some of their other dishes may be alright but first impressions mean a lot, as this was my first time eating at Formosa, so next time I have a desire for this type of food I will choose a different place.

We have been steady customers of this restaurant for 30 years. A clean, well kept restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. The food is absolutely great. Our favorite is the Mandarin Combination. However we have tried many other choices which were also delicious. The last time we visited I couldn’t help but notice the empty tables. On the way there (Sunday) I noticed all the other restaurants had full parking lots and customers waiting at the door. The only reason I can think of is probably the lack of advertisement. It couldn’t possibly be the quality of the food. If you haven’t tried the food at the Formosa Restaurant in Hixson, you don’t know what you are missing. The food not only tastes great, it’s simply appetizing to look at! G. Porter

Imop a Chattanooga institution unchained by time. It’s been the same since I was a kid going in the 90s. The food is always good and so is the service. Also has some good vegetarian option. I love the formosa green beans and low main.

Having lived in China for a few years, I appreciate that the menu has Chinese characters along with the English. A few items seem specifically tailored to a Southern appetite, like the Sweet and Sour fish (not a whole, battered fish like in China...it is fried white fish with dipping sauce)

Had an excellent lunch here at Formosa. It was a long drive to get here, but to hear my family say it was worth the drive makes it even better. Had the steamed Red Snapper, and it was delicious , the combination fried rice was like having meat overload.

anyone who writes these nasty reviews has never worked in the service industry . you all expect us to be perfect with a full resturant . i have worked here for 5 years and we have hundreds of happy customers . most of you who write these ugly reviews come in again and eat as if you didn’t bash us . if there is a problem we always try out best to compensate and fix it . be kind . if you would like to come work here and see how hard it is to be a server please do , you will be way nicer to your next one!

This is a very nice Formosa Restaurant. It has been around for thirty years. They have feed a lot of Chattanoogan's. They are also highly recommended. You definitely have to stop πŸ›‘ by and eat. You will receive some delicious πŸ˜‹ food. You guys can sit down, and enjoy. It's located in a very reserved area, with guest constantly moving in and out throughout the area. There are other businesses as well, with everyone providing a good service to their customers. Shout-out πŸ—£οΈ to our Scenic City πŸŒ† for being one of the top Tourist Attractions in the Nation. This is about Formosa Restaurant. They are The Best of Best. We always ordered the eggs rolls, chicken broccoli πŸ₯¦, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp 🍀 delicious πŸ˜‹.These are some of my family's favorites They can be you guys as well. They have a very detailed menu , and the customer service is Great πŸ‘. I love ❣️ Chatt Town Mr. C.

This was our go place for Chinese food. The very best! Lately we have noticed, it’s just not the same. We’ve given it three more chances and still, not good anymore. Have no idea what went wrong, but it’s definitely not the same good food! Get you previous cooks back or go back to where you used to order your ingredients!

Today was lunch with two friends. We were promptly greeted and seated; the manager and server welcomed up warmly. Lunch was delicious and nicely portioned. The chips and sauce were so good that I could've eaten more had I allowed myself. They each ate Chicken with Pecans; I had Dragon-Horse Chicken. The fried rice was very tasty as well. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Really great food no matter what you get. It’s always really fresh and they are quick when making it. The sizzling rice, spicy pork, and chicken egg foo young are phenomenal. Great Chinese food in Hixson.

I really wish zero stars was an option here. I can't believe this place is allowed to serve "food". It's definitely not eatable, my dog wouldn't even touch the free food they gave me. Save your money.

I thought most of what they brought out was over cooked. The combination fried rice was spot on. Service was good. Friendly. My friend did not like one dish and sent it back..no complaints from staff. No charge for that dish.

Formosa has always been a go-to restaurant for my family to celebrate birthdays. Which was the case of this latest visit. The restaurant is very small but it is accommodating and it is usually easy to not have to wait for a table. We were greeted by the young gentleman working the register as soon as we walked in, and he was able to seat us right away. The young lady that was our waitress came immediately to our table and took our drink orders. We were ready to order once she returned with our drinks. We ordered and didn't have to wait long at all on our food. The food was good. I may be wrong, but I thought that a soup and salad came with each entrΓ©e, but that wasn't the case this time. So I feel like the prices are a little high for just an entrΓ©e with nothing else. Most Asian restaurants give you one or the other, and some give you both with your main course around the same price point that we paid for just the entrΓ©e itself. So I was a little disappointed in that. All in all, our visit was nice. Our waitress wasn't rude by no means, but she wasn't talkative or seemed willing to offer anything more than what she had to. She didn't try to upsell us with any add-on. She did her job and nothing more.

I am 57 and used to come to Formosa when I was in my 30's. Unfortunately things never stay the same and unfortunately it pertains to Formosa. My husband and I only wanted something small for lunch so we ordered the Pu Pu Platter. Meat was tough, egg rolls tasted spoiled, chicken fingers were on it and some kind of appetizer that I had never seen before. Disappointing! This platter used to be great! Was something really cool to order because it was all of some great tasting appetizers. It had been a long time since we had been there and it will be a long time before we ever go back.

Common items like crab Rangoons should include the dipping sauce. That comes with them everytime before and at every other restaurant that serves them. So disappointed. This used to be a good place. And if I could add a picture of the amount of rice that comes with an entree. The entirety fits in the palm of my hand. Such a rip off!! SHRINKFLATION AT ITS BEST. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL

Best place in town for any asian-centric cravings. Amazing tofu dishes, chop suey, crispy rice dishes, and much more! Cozy atmosphere and all the staff is so friendly and accommodating

Ordered 5 items and got 3 of them. So pretty bad odds from the get go. I did order from DoorDash but a sealed bag says Formosa didn’t place the items in the bag. The young lady that answered the phone was rude and very short with responses. While I was there to correct my order I seen an employee use the restroom and leave without washing his hands. 2 huge red flags for my visit. I have eaten at this restaurant many of many times without problem but this time will unfortunately probably be my last. Note manager did give us a $50 credit via phone call, good on him but no thank you. Two stars for history but lack the other three for hygiene and hostess

Sat at my table for 15 minutes before our order was taken. 30 minutes after sitting down still no lunch. Had to leave without eating. What a waste of time. After going there for 20 years I think that was my last visit.

Formosa use to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Now its one of the worst. Costumer service has gotten so bad to I just started paying online. Now the food is getting bad. Veggie lo main with no Veggies. And lo main over cooked. very soft and mushy. An extra charge for this. No even a thank you. This will bw my last time eating here. Long time Costumer lost for bad sservice.
