After being a loyal customer for the past 13 years, I was stunned by what happened to me and my friends recently in this place (even saying its name is disgusting for me). I was with my friends having a good laugh when this guy who calls himself the manager tells us off and said: “Quiet! This is not Lucky Plaza!” (A mall in Singapore that’s known to be populated mostly by Filipino overseas/domestic workers). What used to be a safe haven for us has now become a place of hate and disgust, of discrimination and racism. Goodbye, Tantric. See you never.

I've heard so much about Tantric since I was much younger. Ladies would tell me how fun it is to be in this gay club because of the immunity they hold, while guys would tell me how fun it is, just because. Even though I am straight and probably feeling a little out of place, I was honestly expecting a lot more out of this place on a Friday evening. The space, since downsizing, is a little small. The service, given how everything's quite compact, is hugely lacking. The music was pretty much a Spotify playlist running at the background. The crowd is honestly a little too young and immature, almost like groups of friends simply going out and hanging out to Taylor Swift and GenZ TikTok pop songs. Alcohol is no longer as cheap, and famous cocktails like their Blue Spin tastes damn bad. Plus the rain that evening, it was honestly quite a miserable experience.

Racist “manager” (short bald guy whatevs) This is very sad after having come to this place for years where my friends used to feel free and safe in Singapore to just be. Sadly, this place has now turned into this racist mess so it’s not worth visiting anymore. Skip it! Hope they gain more patrons who can tolerate this kind of rude, tacky treatment and unnecessary racist language. All the best!

The General Manager needs to be fired. He has the worst attitude I’ve ever experienced from the staff of a business. Rude, disrespectful, condescending. First, a girl came over to our table to take our drink orders. While she was speaking with us, he interrupted her, moved her aside (mistreating staff), then rudely told us we were on the same bill as the group at the table next to us. How does that make sense? Two different tables and two different groups on the same bill? We said they were a separate group, then he shouted if we want a separate bill we have to go to the bar. Later on, my arm accidentally knocked a beer bottle to the floor which broke the bottle. A pure accident, something that happens in every bar all the time. He rushed over and very angrily shouted at me. I calmly said it was an accident, and showed how my arm touched the bottle. He said “You’re lucky. Because I accept it’s an accident, I won’t make you pay the fee to clean it.” Excuse me? First of all I’m not a child, and don’t deserved to be talked at like one. Second, how dare you make a threat to a customer over a small mistake. I was so angry I immediately left the bar. While I was outside talking about his absolutely wild reaction with my friends, another customer of the bar standing outside said, “Are you guys talking about the GM?” We said yes. The customer said “A ton of people have had problems with him. It doesn’t even make you want to go to Tantric anymore.” I was so shocked to hear the GM has developed a reputation for giving awful service to many people. It’s a shame because Tantric is a really lovely bar and comfortable queer space to chat and get casual drinks. Things will improve once he is removed from your staff

Was appalled by the behaviour of the manager and the bar tenders. From the beginning they kept saying if you are not happy you can leave pointing towards the exit door and even recommending other gay bars like Dorothy instead. The whole vibe was not welcoming from the get-go. The manager blatantly said I am the manager, I run this place, if you are not happy you could leave. For the $20 blue spin drink, you do get your fair share of alcohol. But in terms of service, it is one of the worst. Also there is definitely racism towards a certain group of race. We really wanted to have a good time but that experience left a bad taste. It is quite sad actually. As Singapore is a multi-racial society and being one of the only-long standing gay bar, a little inclusivity would be nice. We just wanted to have a good time but this unpleasant/unwelcoming atmosphere ruined our night. It is possible that they may have been short staffed. But we were there on a Tuesday night and it was not crowded.

Fun, friendly, welcoming ... Like a big hug with great music and tasty drinks. One of the classic gay bars in town with all the attributes that keep it popular year after year. The drink menu has a wide variety of cocktails - from sweet and fun to serious mixes - to numerous varieties of shots. Handsome hard-working staff take time to be friendly with everyone, which is the one reason Tantric remains a local institution. Opens at 5 pm which is the right time for a quiet drink, come after 8 pm to mingle and meet. Reservations suggested for anytime after 7 pm.

Good ambience, great place to hangout if you wanna have some fun bar hopping! Its is good for any kinda people to visit here staff is amazing and people around are always at their best behaviour which is pretty much everyone in Singapore!! So if I am in town next a definite visit again.. Dream foodie rates this 4 on 5 just coz the place gets a little too congested on weekends but super cool stuff..

They need to have a locker room and some bar guys can have better attitude. Great gay place. Cocktails are $20sing so ask they make it strong 😂

Not the same place that it once used to be. And there’s no way for it to go back to what it was. The team pre pandemic was great (even though they were annoying by constantly asking you to order drinks). Now it’s just a boring quiet little bar, with little to no service. Terrible music selections, and pretty empty during the weekends.

We reached there when they just opened and were still busy for the arrangment for night. And despite their busyness, the service team were friendly and warm to us. Being there for the first time, we didn't what to order and one of them took their time to recommend and introduce the popular choices and signature drink. We got the blue tantric cocktail (sorry if i spelt the name wrongly) and a fruity cocktail jug. Both cocktails tasted really good. I would prefer the tantric cocktail as the taste was pleasantly strong and elegant - you can taste the liqueurs balancing out themselves in it. The fruity jug was more like a fruit punch that's not too sweet, aromatic and can taste the liqueur in it. You dont find them diluted. Had a great time chilling with my friends and the large screen at the alfresco area. Thanks for the great service peeps!

At the time of this review, there was not a thriving gay bar scene in Singapore - options were limited, spaces were small, and service at most of them was not great. All things considered, Tantric is probably one of the best from all options. The carpet floor at a bar is just not sanitary - dirty and smelly carpet. The staff was friendly, yet service could be better. Music was OK - the person behind the bar plays the music, and it is usually what they like, at times playing multiple songs by the same artist back-to-back, which can get boring; they should diversify music to please all patrons. If you live in or if you're staying in Chinatown, you'll find this and many other gay bars to be conveniently located.

This place has deteriorated quickly to become a rather hostile bar. The bouncers would treat this place like a zoo to watch those under-privileged groups without any sympathy. The waiters could handle any guest in a tough manner without warmth. Unless you are pathetically running out of choice, I would not recommend coming here to risk getting yourself humiliated

I know, i am not very attractive and hence was offered a seat in the very back although there were quite a few available seats. Staff also was not very nice about it.

Very nice experience with very nice people. It’s a bar where most people are veryy friendly including the service staff. The first floor has more of a bar/pub vibe with more seating. Second floor is more of a club vibe where you can also go to stand if there are no seats available. Would definitely recommend to reserve as early as possible because the place gets very packed. There’s also a walk in queue after midnight(ish) so you can also try your luck with that!

Been patronising this place since their opening. Love the strong drinks and super friendly staff. Prefer the bar on the second floor because their sofa are more comfortable and the staffs are super fun… rem to look for Robin when u visit. He will definitely make u feel so comfortable.

I assume pre-covid was a good bar, now is just a local sad bar witj few people and witj a screening.. no local no access so for ex-pats no waste your time

Absolutely fantastic night, came on my own, felt so welcomed and the atmosphere made my night, Ben, the manager is an absolute delight and he makes the whole Tantric experience truly memorable and colourful and fun and totally worthwhile, handsdown one of the best bars in Singapore 12 out of 10 for courtesy and flair.

Honestly, it’s quite a chill place to be. The service is quick and to the point. Generally a fuss free place to hang after dinner in the area. Would love to come back again :)

All the food and drink is nice , but the service is most worst one, especially the old male staff. When we order to him , he ignore us and just standing there. Is it because we are girls, so can just ignore us ?

Worst staff with horrible attitude. Went to this place and ordered wine, and many rounds of tequila shots and cocktails. Sever has no customer service at all! We even had to move drinks on our own. What is the place about? Male Server was saying we don’t need your business go find another place! Even after taking our order, he did not place it at the cashier. We wanted to spend our day off here enjoyably, unfortunately, he didn’t show respect for us and also selectively give preferential treatment to customers he likes. Not coming back!

Strong drinks with great atmosphere. Music could be slightly louder but overall good vibes and enjoyed myself there! Drinks are at affordable pricing too!

5 stars are only because of the food. Best finger food ever as compared to the surrounding bars. Drink prices are reasonable. Place is overcrowded due to the layout of the building and the popularity of the bar.

Lost my phone here and the place kept it well, and also helped to charge it. This allowed me to successfully use the Find My Phone app. I am aware the place notes down the lost and found. I got back my phone in the end thanks to their helpful staff. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 (music and drinks were great there too)

Really good fun. How wonderful that Singapore has transformed except for the death penalty for marijuana transgressions. I don't dabble in any but that's just my opinion.

Good place to hang out, but a little bit cramped. Service is good in here.

Went there a few times! Enjoyed it much better than a similar establishment across the street. Friendly crowd, outdoor bar, affordable drinks. Will def come back once in Singapore again.
