Note to self: 19.2.22 Ordered many foods. Quite an interesting restaurant. None of the foods gives the “amazing” feeling, yet most are above average. Good taste, and felt light after the meal. *Majority of the foods served with 2 standard sauces only.

I think I've never had proper indian food until now, I have no idea what I ordered but they are all GOOD! Exceptionally good. - With the exception of a dosa not in the pics here, with a savory powder and filling on top, that was not for me Also, this place is kept really clean with their very friendly and approachable staff promptly clearing tables. WOW!

Great food! I’m not an Indian so I have no idea how authentic these food are and I have no idea what I am eating. But for what it’s worth it’s surely tasty! However, price is on the steeper side but nonetheless will be back to try other items on their extensive menu.

Over Rated. Though unfortunately we visited on a weekend. So crowd and queue of 20 minutes at the entrance. No one bothers to help a Senior Citizen standing in the queue on the road outside. So I went across the road and sat in the temple till my turn came. The food is ok. Quantities are small. Rasam tasted like sweet sambhar. Sambhar and chuttney came in half filled katoris. With bold captions at the entrance that additional chutney and sambhar will be charged extra. Dishes came in an ad hoc manner. Dosa and coffee after 3 reminders. I couldn't believe when they said No rava dosa today. Generally everything was a put off. What is needed is plain good, quick and efficient service. I believe any suburban restaurant in Mumbai can provide better service.

Doesn't suit my taste. expensive... Had Badham Halwa. It was more like Sweet Badham maavu... not anywhere near badam halwa. 😒

Not sure the quality of foods but I liked those. Especially those dosa has very rich butter flavor and taste. And staffs are very friendly and kind. Dishes will be served very quickly I guess they serve less than 3 minutes.

Where do I start? Ok, firstly do not go here if you want good food priced slightly higher than other vegetarian restaurants. But if you want to splurge and pamper yourself to some quality food and good service, step right in. I was very impressed with the pudi idli dish. A combination of flavours on a small plate. Their thosai batter is unlike other restaurants. Vadai was light, fluffy, crispy. Onion uthappam was a favourite among my family. I am usually a "must eat chicken" person but really enjoyed all dishes today. Excellent location too if you want to head to the temple opposite and come here for a good meal.

Well, I can’t really find words to discribe the taste. It was just delicious and heavenly feeling to have this comfort food after a long flight. MTR has been best at what they do, I love their products 😘. Super duper authentic South Indian food.

Our consistent go to for a wider variety of Indian vegetarian food in Singapore. Daily specials, good prices, good portions, lesser spotted dishes from the normal selection and above all, tastes lovely. As ever we chatted to a few regulars for advice on what they recommended or were eating. As ever some asked if we needed help. Always enjoy how enthusiastic and friendly customers tend to be in these restaurants. Handy for buses up from behind Bencoolen Street, handy for MRT Farrer Park.

Wish we discovered this gem much earlier! What have we been missing out on? Super yummy and savory dosas (the podi is so unique!). But the show stopper is the vada - these were perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. The chai was good as well, tasted very homemade. We also ordered the cardamom halwa as a dessert as this is rarely found in other Indian restaurants, perfect ending to the meal. Can’t wait to go back :)

On learning that this is our first visit to this vegetarian restaurant, this lady was most helpful in recommending their popular best sellers. With bits of everything to share, what we had was absolutely delicious. Some were somewhat greasy, but nevertheless still very good. What stood out for me were the little donuts balls and pancake drenched in a light spicy mala type chilli sauce. Staffers will check on us, asking if the meal was to our liking. Or if we needed anything else.

Definitely worth the hype and the wait. Everything we ordered was hot and fresh and full of flavour. Loved my dosa, not too greasy and packed a punch of flavour. Idles and cada were nice as well … vadas were light and crispy. Highly recommend!

Price: $6.50 (Plain Thosai 1st Picture) $7.56 (Pudi Masala Thosai 2nd Picture) Plain Thosai: 5/5 The usual thickness of a thosai but was extremely crispy. Thosai was flavourful and slightly nutty. Pudi Masala Thosai: 5/5 Crispy on one side and soft on the other. Cheesy taste from the thosai likely from ghee. The pudi spice blend is savoury and quite spicy. The potato filling was really flavourful, soft, slightly sweet from the onions, very tasty. Sambar: 5/5 The sambar was flavourful, bright, spicy and slightly sweet. Chutney: 5/5 Green chutney was flavourful, coconuty and slightly minty. Total score: 15/15 Add-ons: Uddin Vada ($3.24) was extremely delicious. Insanely crispy thin outer shell and soft inside. Filter Coffee ($3.20) was fragrant, tasty and a wonderful way to end the meal. I first ordered the Plain Thosai, finished it before I made my order for the remaining Pudi masala thosai, Uddin Vada and filter coffee. Not sure if it was coincidental or just amazing service but the Pudi masala thosai came next, and when I was just about finish, the Vada came. And shortly before I finished the filter coffee came. I was extremely impressed at the end of my meal.

Over Rated, Over Oiled, Over priced, Over Crowded but lesser quantity. As you see this restaurant is in prime location making it crowded and so better crowded management should be required. No one from the restaurant is bothered to atleast to communicate or put up a board on the waiting time. We ordered Sambar Vada, Aaalu Bonda, Podi Dosai, Poori, Mysore Masala Dosai and Neer Dosai. Poori Sagu is way too salty and when complained atleast to 3 people they did not have courtesy to come back and action on it while they did not bill it in the final stage. Podi dosai - wow..made with atleaast 200ml of ghee and could not eat after 3 ot 4 bites of it due to excess ghee. When informed to them, we were convinced that this is how the podi dosa' are made. Masala dosai came after 4 reminders. Most of the dishes tastes are average and does not makes it to rate 4 or 5 star restaurant. If you have never tried and experience it on your own you can visit once. BTW - Water tasted good, better i would say.

Unfortunately didn't like the food. Decided will never visit this plce again. Pongal: First time in my life received Raitha with Pongal. We were confused did the waiter gave Raitha instead of white Coconut chutney. However it seems Raitha was actually being served with ven pongal. Pongal aslo tasted bad with full of ginger. Requested to bring white coconut chutney but end up received green pudhina chutney. Filter Coffee: Tasted decent however was served in cup & saucer. Supposed to be dabara set. Rava dosai: Avg. The quantity as less. Plain & Masala dosai: Not bad. Sambar: Really good. Only dish worth the amount paid.

For a non Indian nationality, I feel it's overrated even though this shop have high reviews. The food tasted average to good, but I won't call it fantastic or a place I'll purposely come again. Atmosphere is average.. Air con isn't that cold and you will leave the place with heavy smell on your clothes which is a given. Pricing wise it's not an expensive place, on average around 15-20 SGD per pax.

This is my all time favorite Southern Indian restaurant in Singapore! As a vegetarian, I always come back here for their dosas and idlies. If you find yourself in Little India/Farrer Park, you have to try here at least once!

Ordered mini meals, puliyogure was spicy and salty, and curd rice taste was also sour. Only sweet and bisi belebath were good taste. Thanks you. Was expecting good quality food as an MTR brand. Sorry to say this, It's not comparable to Bangalore Original MTR

Went there after someone from office recommended them for South Indian craving. It is a small looking place from outside, but very spacious inside. We had podi dosa, masala dosa, button idli, Kesari bhath and badam halwa. Everything tasted super amazing, especially the podi dosa. Will definitely go back for that. Just one thing -- the quantity for badam halwa was very less. We got it as takeaway and it was just around 4 dessert spoons.

Love the food here. The best part is that the quality is consistently maintained and they seldom disappoint. Today we ordered BisiBele Bhath and Pudi Idly. Both tasted great with the right amount of spices. However, was disappointed with Badam Halwa which didn’t meet my expectation. I wanted my regular Kesari Bhath, but unfortunately, it got over so had to settle with the above. Overall a great place to taste authentic South Indian food. Next Visit: Was able to get my hands on Kesari Bhath. However, it was just ok, may be I was expecting more. I felt the texture was not that soft and it lacked ghee.

I fell in love with the thosai here. Just the best I've had. Crispy on the outside, very fragrant with a very yummy mashed potato inside. Tried many of their other dishes too. Mostly good. Always a 20-30min wait. Inside the restaurant is very basic and clean. Order and pay upfront at the cashier before sitting.

If someone asked us which was our favourite eatery in Singapore, we would say MTR without giving it much thought. Anytime we are confused about eating out - if either one of us suggests MTR, the other instantly agrees. That’s how much we love this place, it reminds us of home. We have frequented this place so many times over the last three years - by ourselves, with family, with friends and it never disappoints. We always order in abundance and the wonderful servers there sometimes tease us on a day where we don’t order our usual fare of items. My go to order has always been their Set Dosa with a dose of their brilliant filter coffee. That’s not to say I stop myself at this - I definitely add on their delicious Rasam Vada, Mangalore Buns (the Mangalorean in me lives for this bit of nostalgia), Khara Bhat - the list can go on. I absolutely recommend this humble, fairly priced eatery with delectable South Indian Food!

They let us wait 30 minutes in the queue under the sun before letting us know that we couldn't enter with the stroller. They saw the stroller and they took note that we needed space for it, but when our turn came they said they don't allow strollers inside. My 4-month old was sleeping and even if she wasn't sleeping she definitely cannot sit on her own. Terrible service, it was one of my favorite places, but I'm never gonna come again.

MTR is one restaurant which I keep visiting when ever I am in Singapore. Have scheduled my day just to visit MTR and have masala dosa. Prices are slightly on the higher side but the quality is unmatched. (My Call) order masala dosa and ask for some ghee it’s a must try dish at MTR. Only reason I have not given full 5⭐️ because the I don’t like the sambar and Chutney served at MTR.

Authentic South Indian eating place. Purely Vegetarian Menu. Moderately priced. It is seen that this restaurant is getting top rated ranking award continuously since year 2018, from TRIP-ADVISOR. Please note that one need to wait on queue for 15 to 30 minutes on Weekends and on Public Holidays. Easy to locate - just next to Mustafa Centre.

For vegetarians who can't take garlic and onions, MTR customizes the food for you (Jain option). The steamed rava idil is always a nice for breakfast. The dosa is crisp and smells so good. We also had the lemon rice and beehoon which are delicious. Highly recommended. Be prepared for about a 30 min wait during peak hours, but worth it. They have quite a good order taking and queue system.

Amazing food. The food quality and taste is unbeatable. The filter kaapi reminds me of Bangalore. The service is great. The prices are very reasonable. When there is not much of a crowd, the waiters keep checking on you if you need extra chutney etc etc. They are very quick in getting the food to the table..so even if there is a line of 10 members to get in, I would still say its worth the wait. <3 Love from a fellow Bangalorean <3

Taste that makes it different. Usually I am picky about food and will prefer a south Indian snack based options rather having rich north Indian food for dinners to keep it lighter on my tummy. It is a chain of big restaurants spread all across the world. To read their story, visit the restaurant and read all the wall handing. You will know the story behind every dish on the menu. It is usually very crowded and you place your order at the counter and then get a seating. they have opened an area where you can order food at your seat as well. The food is awesome. their podi masala and buttermilk are my favourite and best.

One of the few places serving authentic Mangalorean/Karnataka vegetarian meals (heavily carbohydrate based food). It's also evident that they don't have much competition from other restaurants in Singapore with regard to this cuisine. The neer dosa, Mangalore buns, rasam, sambar, poori saagu, uddhina vadaa, sada dose etc are typical of Mangalorean vegetarian cuisine. The aisles are narrow. But it's also fairly clean though the chairs can be dirty. The manager/cashier tends to behave rudely at times and the staff might also try to hurry you up to finish eating fast.

MTR (Mavalli Tiffin Room) is one of the oldest restaurants in India best known for its authentic Karnataka food rich in flavour and freshness. The branch in Singapore is no less in what MTR’s foundation is built on. We ordered the following for 47 S$. - Bisibele Bath - Mini meals - Podi Masala Dosa - Badam Kesari Bath - Sambar Vada - Filter coffee It was one of the most delicious meals close to home we have had. This is definitely a must visit in Farrer Park. We definitely hope to go back many more times in the future.

Place is very clean and well organised. I have been trying their home delivery also offlate. Very prompt and fast. Highly recommended 👌 My favourites: Rasam vada, bisibelebath, badam halwa.

We saw many good reviews abt MTR. Since we love Indian food, decided to try out this place. They have a good system, that you only place your order if they have a table for you. We ordered the mini rice set and the pancake. I forgot what was the name of the pancake. For the mini rice set, there were 4 kinds of rice and it was a great taster set for us. The pancake also had a charred taste with just the right amount of sourness that you can find in very well done Indian pancakes. For both, you could feel the ingredients of the good are quality food. Not sure about the comments about the food being too little, but both of us were filled to the brim with these 2 Carb dishes. We did not try other side dishes tho. Giving 4 stars as it was just too many carbs for us. Service by the staff was amazing, and food serving time was also fast. Price wise, altho it is more expensive than others, but we felt the value due to the quality of the ingredients.

Went here not knowing what it was and told from friends it was good. Did not realize I would be walking into the best restaurant in Singapore for Thosai and Vadai. Or in this restaurant, they call it Dosa and Vada. Whatever it is, the vadai was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Not forgetting the explosion of flavors salted to perfection. The Dosai may be a little oilier than I would like it, but it was fluffy and extremely tasty. It does make you feel really full. Orders are really fast and food is piping hot.

A heaven for vegetarian! We went here on Tuesday. Each day they have a special menu. On Tuesday there was madur bada (a must try) ,soo crispy and non oily and full of flavours! Akki roti ,a light aromatic rice crispy chapati One of the other unique dish to try is dal vada, where vada is served in dal, which makes it non spicy and flavourful And dahi vadass are also a must try , but you get it only if ur lucky as they get over so soon!

A truly excellent option irrespective of whether you choose to opt for the very reasonably priced food delivery service or actually prefer to dine in. Extremely efficient, well packaged food, and more importantly, it arrives hot enough to not require any re-heating. A great menu with lots of daily specials - the vanghi bhath (brinjal rice) and buns (a sweet variation on puri) are truly exceptional. The taste compares very favourably to the main Bangalore outlet. Thoroughly satisfied every single time I've eaten at the restaurant or (more recently) ordered from it.

This place is good. Great hygiene. But the food is not as it was. Rasam sambar had salty rasam with a lot of rasam/sambar powder on 5th Sep. Too expensive eventhough quality of some items is good like rava idly is really good consistently. I always thought owners or some manager test each item especially like sambar or rasam or chutney a quick sanity check to ensure there is no excess salt or spice.

We are regular customers of MTR. Visit them almost every week or two. We also do delivery. The food has always been good and very nice. One issue happened during delivery. The problem was the delivery was done on motorbike and hence it was not allowed at the Hotel. I had to leave my family and travel to the Casino about 2 to 3 stops from my hotel to pick up the food. Pavan, Param and Manager Shakti called us for the inconvenience, sorted things out. Overall happy. Will recommend MTR to friends and family.

Delicious vegetarian breakfast place that is usually crowded. Need to wait for minimum 30 to 60 minutes on a holiday even for takeaway orders. Masala Dosa, Uddin Vada, Sambar button Idly and coffee are my first choices whenever I visit MTR. And I end up having food coma everytime. Puliogare aka Tamarind Rice or kesari bath aka Saffron Rice is also simply superb. Brings us to karnataka, India with its taste. Definitely recommend place.

One of the tastiest Masala Dosa I've ever had. It was more buttery than other dosa I've tried, but that was a welcome change. The vada was good too, with a very crispy outer layer. My only gripe was that it was quite pricey at $7 a Dosa.

Ordered meals for 4 waited very long only one dish came claim of plain thosai but it's not satisfying at all with all served with their Purina chutney. Nothing great of variations of dosa . Customer service was bad drinks didn't even served. Paid 48 bucks for non satisfying breakfast. Charged service charge but didn't serve well . Go tekka market and get your choice of food which are way much better chutney and all are served with great amount.

Saw the amount of reviews and the high popularity rating on google map. Tried today and am glad I came. Will definitely return again if I am nearby. First time tried Pudi Masala Dosa. It’s crispy and good. The spices are just right and the chutney is a good pair to go with. Must order if u come here for the First time. Just felt at $3 for a small cup of Masala tea is kinda X to me. It’s good but I tried better ones. Btw credit card payment is acceptable for this small meal.

Disappointing. I ordered as what the staff recommended. The stuffed potato is super little even the outside thing is so huge, most of the inside were empty. And this main dish cost $7 which I can eat much better and larger portion at any other Indian restaurant. I ordered another side dish and it was good, and there was a complimentary water as well.

Have always been to komala villas for my thosai fix but randomly wanted to try somewhere different & found this on google. If you go at dinner time, be prepared to wait in line. The place is decently sized & clean, and the food really didnt take long to be served considering they make each order fresh. You'll have to order & make payment before being shown a seat. Generally noone sits & lingers after finishing their meal given the queue. The masala thosai was crispy, but also slightly chewy - we thoroughly enjoyed it. Mango lassi was recommended by another patron and it was awesome, not too sweet or milky! We really enjoyed the other dishes too (cant remember their names) except the idly, was a more acquired taste for us. The chutneys were tasty. The portions are big so if you are very hungry, its okay to order a few more dishes for a variety. Would definitely go back for more!

  • 1/5 malathi g. 10 months ago on Google
Just pure hype and I cannot even offer 1 star if it is possible. Food is disaster, service is even worse. Chutneys supposed to enhance the taste of the food, but here it even made worse. They offer only one chutney which is mediocre. Coming to sambar, I never had such worse choice in my recent days. Vada is not cooked and the place is chaos and pure disaster. Never go there hungry , never go there for service and never go there for tasty real South Indian food.

Very wholesome meal, my friend and I got vadas, masala dosa and pudi masala dosa to share. I really liked the mango lassi, sweet and refreshing. Perfect to balance the spice from the dishes. The service was fast, and very attentive. One thing that I found a little too monotonous was the sauces combination. Always the same. Basically with each dish we got all the same. And they almost tasted identical after some time. We payed 32$ including the tax.
