Service is excellent, Dishes were served up fast and the food were all savoury! The coffee ribs were slightly too sweet for my palate but i guess it will suit the taste of majority Downside of the venue is smokers everywhere so you be eating with the scent of cigarette as and when.

Chili crab was amazing! The horfun had such a rich flavor to it. Chicken was a notable mention but the first two dishes man… out of this world! Singapore should be proud that places like this elevate the foodie scene to new heights! Its not cheap but quality food never is cheap. Well deserving of the cost. Great foodie spot

So amazing!!! You can skip all the super touristy and fancy seafood places in Singapore and come here for some fantastic food and wonderful service. Duh, pepper crab for sure, but the fish head curry was amazing, as were the beef hor fun noodles. Good cereal shrimp, marmite chicken, salted egg calamari … everything we had was great. And big cold Tiger bears to wash it all down. Yum!

This is my second visit, the chili crab still tastes good and pleasantly surprised to find quite a lot of crab roe, but of cos price has increased quite a lot. 明珠卷 (their signature wrap) is yum, but not sure if as full bodied in term of filling as before. Sambal stir fried veggies (okra and eggplants) is the highlight of the night, goes v well with rice! The only disappointment is the salted egg calamari, not very rich in salted egg flavor as we expected. Staff most are aunties just like your neighbors, friendly and got vivid characters~ 😊 a gentle tips though, remember to request for air con tables when you book a table if al fresco isn't your cup of tea esp in hot humid Singapore weather!

Above average local dishes at economical prices. Good dishes include moonlight rice noodles, prawn paste chicken and deep fried salted egg yolk squid. Helpful staff. Location is not off the way. Can be very crowded during dinner, hence advisable to make a reservation

Was there to celebrate my birthday. Ordered their tofu and bai ling gu mushroom dish. I have to say the tofu is nice and firm and the bai ling gu was not over cook. Next comes the main dish, Ordered the chilli crab as well as the black pepper crab. Chilli much preferred and the sauce was nice. Have a nice kick to it but still can taste the sweetness of the crab. Black pepper crab , smaller in size but was charged the same as the chilli crab. Too strong for my liking, can't taste the crab sweetness. But can tell the crab is fresh Over the experience is nice. The reason I didn't give a 5 star review was that the crab when served was not piping hot but lukewarm. The sauce is hot but the crabs are not. Total bill plus non alcohol drinks : 200 plus As for the staff they are nice and friendly. Bravo to them

Made reservations which was a good idea since we saw several groups turned away. They have set menus for specific party sizes or an a la carte menu. Cold Milo was good. Food was okay but some options were dry like the prawn rolls and the calamari. Crab rice was good and simple but could have used more crab. The small sizes of everything still felt like they could feed 3 or more.

Thriving with activity, this 煮炒 Chinese restaurant is a bustling spot, so reservations are a must. Even with a reservation, a wait of about 15 to 20 minutes was inevitable. The food was delectable, and the service was commendable. The cereal prawns were a highlight, with meaty prawns and an ample serving of cereals. While the 月光hor fun leaned a bit sweet for my taste, the tender and smooth chicken slices within compensated for it. A recommended starter is the deep-fried dragon balls; they offer a generous portion of shredded mushrooms delicately wrapped in tofu skin, maintaining a delightful softness after deep-frying.

The staff here are a machine! They are serving a lot of people a lot of food. And the food is amazing. The hor fun noodles are perfect. I would eat them once a week or more if it lived closer. The coffee pork ribs are good. Their Kang Kong with garlic was great, and the Black Pepper 🦀 was just perfect! Highly recommend this place and wish I could come back sooner to further explore their menu!

Have not been here for many years. Had dinner here with a few friends on a Sat recently. They have expanded. Now with a sitting area that is air-conditoned. It was very crowded. But they still managed to get us a table and served us the dishes we ordered quite quickly. I marveled at how the kitchen and the staff could handle so many customers so fast and so efficiently. The dishes excellent. Service incredible. And the place very clean.

Decent food with decent price point. Sweet n sour pork is the star. The coral trout is over cooked. Giving 2 star for service. 1 for the very nice auntie short hair with many ear rings didn’t get her name though. Very kind to recommend the dishes and portion size. 1 for the nice lady boss that spotted us trying to snap family photo and offered to help. Deducted 3 stars from service as the Chinese lady at the booking counter is blatantly rude. Spent more time trying to reiterate the 1.5hrs dining time and proceeded to remind us that we arrived earlier than the 6pm booking time (5.50pm) as if it’s our fault. Went on to roll her eyes at us when informed that we have 1 elderly with wheelchair. For a place with so much rave reviews 1 bad apple is enough especially since she is the front of house staff.

Random find on Google! Was worth it. Didn’t haven’t to wait much. What you see below was around $60. Could have easily fed 3-4 people. We were only 2 so we had to pack some back since the portions were big Coffee pork ribs were good but be prepared for the strong coffee flavour. Honestly couldn’t tell it was pork cos the flavours were so strong. Salted egg sotong was on point and crispy. One of the better ones in Singapore. Seafood fried rice unlike most places had plenty of sliced fish, prawns and squid.

Wow. It was my first time trying the famous black pepper crab so I have nothing to compare it to... However it was one of the nicest things I've ever had the pleasure of eating. No set price as its set by how much it cost at market on the day but was as fresh as you can find. Loved that they had a little button to attract a server as it gets quite busy so reservations are advised! For reference I paid about 70 SGD for a full crab. WILL. BE. BACK.

When a spot is being recommended to you by top chefs in the area and they wanna go with you, then you know is a unique spot. Quickly setting up another large round table and filling up the food and freshly made drinks. A feast and sitting under open air eating superb food at a super value for money level.

Date of visit: Fri 18 Aug 2023 Time : 7 pm We reserved for 13 pax and they managed to squeeze us all into one table. Wonderful !!! This is inside the aircon area and the minimum spending per table is $250. Could fit only about 4 round tables inside. We ordered 8 dishes with some bowls of rice and finished up with a desert. The roast chicken, hor fun and the pearl are good. The yam paste dessert is only soso.

This place was a no-frills way to enjoy Singapore Chilli Crab. Service was a bit brisk, but food came out fast. It was our first time trying Chilli crab. Personally, I didn’t enjoy how sweet the sauce was. The salt egg squid was much better balanced, in my opinion. The crab was also very hard to crack with only our hands and gloves. The coffee pork ribs were really unique and flavorful, though also very sweet. It was a fun experience. Online reservations were easy & convenient. As tourists who were suffering in the heat & humidity, I would probably opt for an A/C restaurant for such an involved meal, especially since the prices were equal with that level of establishment.

The food is great, price is reasonable... and the service.. is incredible. The staff are super attentive and well trained... better than some fancy pansy restaurants. Eg. They pull in extra chairs for the ladles' handbags etc. Please feel free to tip for good service. Definitely 5-stars, highly recommended

Really efficient and fast service. Food was served within minutes of ordering. Really enjoyed the chilli crab with crab meat without having the hassle of picking the crabs from the shells. Another great dish was the moonlight hor fun which had good wok hei and lots of bits of crispy pork lard.

One of the top crab restaurant in Singapore. We should book a table in advanced. It's always crowded. You can take a bus 14,33..to this restaurant. Opposite with Queenways. Good food, especially crabs. Reasonable price. A little bit sweet than normal but it is traditional Chinese flavor and restaurant.

Very popular zichar place, with very good varieties of food. Choose their recommended food i think won’t go wrong. Prefer their liver claypot and salted egg sotong. Taste wise is good but food good to go with rice. Service is good, they are usually fast, serve food also fast. Unless you r seated in air con place which is better environment, non air-con is not that bad very windy but can be better in term of table organisation. Table can be anywhere as long they can open a table. Price wise abit higher than normal zichar.

Outstanding food! Was our second time there, had a salted egg poached crab (the sauce is to die for) with a couple of baos (much better option than rice!), the coffee pork ribs and aubergines with pork mince. All of it was incredibly flavourful and fresh - can’t wait to go back!

Salted egg prawn is the must try dish. We enjoyed that dish, even though it would be a bit salty. We did not order set for 8 people, all food were at expected quality. The service was ok, they served food quickly. They close at 2pm so everything needs to be ordered and confirmed around 1:30-1:40pm. The place is clean and neat, it must be very crowded during dinner hours.

Despite being constantly packed full of people, KEK service can be trusted to be efficient and friendly. Top dishes to recommend here are the moonlight hor fun, coffee ribs, salted egg sotong, and claypot liver (tip:try asking them to add rice into it 😉). Prawns are good and they have de-shelling service too. I’ve eaten crabs here twice, but they didn’t impress me much. Been coming here since my uni days and till now one of my favourite tze chars.

The crabmeat friend rice was heavenly. The roasted chicken was very nice too, only missing some prawn crackers to complement and complete it. Seems almost every other table ordered crab. Parking is limited and as the restaurant is popular for dinner, may have to wait a while to get a table. Service was fast.

Huge seafood eating house at the HDB blocks, you may need to wait a bit to get the table during dinner time. Seafood are fresh, salted egg squid is tasty and crispy, however the coffee pork ribs is a bit disappointing as it’s too sweet and kinda salty. Fish and crab are at seasonal price but they only have 800gr and above so I couldn’t try this time. Will come back to try crabs next time.

First of all don't bother to walk in to eat if you want to eat crabs at this place. As they seemed to have limited crabs. Also most tables are reserved also. which means pretty long wait for food We made a reservation via their website and upon arrival, we were told there are no crabs as we did not reserve a crab during our reservation. They were then only able to give us one crab for a table of 5. Ordered 6 dishes and we can say the food quality is pretty good. Yam ring is tasty and seafood ingredients are fresh. Salted egg prawns are flavourful. came medium when we wanted small but might be miscommunication, but since dish tasted good we let it go. 3 treasure vegetable is not that great though. A bit too salty for our taste. moonlight horfun is excellent. The wok Hey is strong and tastes good Choi Yang tou fu is great also. Tou fu is fresh and minced meat with sauce is savory. Chilli crab served is pretty big. I suppose it's to make up the gaffe earlier that they stated there won't be any crab if we never reserve earlier. Crab is fresh and not old. The chilli crab sauce is too sweet for our liking with little to no chilli or spiciness or sambal taste. Tasted completely different from how Mark Weins described it when he was there recently. And they only have steamed buns instead of the deep fried buns which goes with the dish. Overall gave 3 stars because I feel that being a seafood place, emphasis is given more to non sea food dishes. And the earlier "no crab if no reserve" incident marred the experience there. Service is ok other then mis communication and forgetting one item on the menu which came after we almost finish our meal.

Awesome customer service for a coffee shop! Will definitely go back there again! Offered to take photo for me and my friend. Was provided gloves and bib for ordering crabs too! Salted egg crab is definitely a must try. The chili sauce pales in comparison though

Great meal, crab was also good. Soup (with fish maw and crab meat) was hearty and very tasty. Crab meat fried rice is a must to order! Large platter was more than enough to feed 9 adults and 3 kids. Coffee ribs was tasty too!

Big yes! Maybe the best food I had in my 1 week Singapore stay. The moonlight hofun (beef dry noodle with egg yolk) was so good it has me up late writing this review. Everything we had was top tier - so it seems any choice is a safe one here!

After hearing and seeing so much hype on KEK, finally made a reservation for dinner with family. Be aware of a minimum spending of $250 (have to include a crab dish to meet this amount) if you reserve a table in the air con section, which is very cramped and noisy actually. I think it is not a fair rule. The food was really delicious. Only gripe was that the pricing is higher than many Zi Char places and yet the ambience and location of KEK is not of restaurant standard. Note that they don't have fried mantou. They only serve steamed buns which are soft and fluffy. Don't mind coming back but MINUS the need to order crab to be eligible to dine in the air con room.

First time dining in at the place itself. Had ordered in the last time. We had a reservation but ended up, we were assigned to a table by the lift landing even though there were still many empty tables. :( Service wasn't as friendly as read from the Google reviews. No smiles from the waiting staff, servers or cashier throughout our time there. We ordered a little too much for two pax and the staff didn't bother to caution us on it. >< Meant to order fried mantou (fmt) for our chilli crab (cc). The staff replied they were unavailable. While waiting for our food, we saw that fmt was served at the neighbouring table. Queried with the staff who took our order and she replied that was a set order with the cc sauce. It would have been better if the staff had suggested this set alternative to us when we requested for fmt. She stated that only steamed mantou were available and these turned out to be flower rolls (花卷). :\ Overall, the food was great as raved, especially the moonlight hor fun. 👍🏻 The only disappointment was the "3 eggs spinach". Price-wise, some dishes were overpriced, costing the same as Chinese restaurants. :O

Food was okay, seafood tasted fresh however the flavour left a lot to be desired. The fish was a bit tough and the crab sauce tasted too much like laksa for my liking. In general, an okay place to eat seafood but isn’t a must try in my opinion

Been here multiple times and the food has not disappointed me each time. Horfun was full of 'wok hei' and very smooth. Salted egg calamari was crunchy and flavourful. Eggplant and "har cheong" chicken wings were also very tasty.

Ordered French beans but came long bean, they did an exchange cos they cannot explain why. White pepper came with 1 big & 1 small claw, it's definitely not from the same crab. Same thing the staff cannot really explain why. So better check what was Ordered and what was delivered to you.

The food is very nice. Normally only two person so rarely order the other dishes. Mainly order the noodles. The wok hey is good. The lard is crispy and not smelly type which I am quite surprised.

One of my favourite zi char in Singapore. They have a wide range of dishes from salted egg crab to silk tofu. The crab usually needs to be ordered beforehand so I suggest u call in to reserve and book a table. Our favourite dish is undoubtedly the tofu as it is crisy on the outside yet silky on the inside with a nice side of sweet and fragrant minced meat added onto the tofu. The rest of the dishes were amazing as well.

Came across this Zi Char store while looking for a dinner destination. The food is pretty good, their signature Hor Fan has the "Wok-Hei" taste. Salted egg prawns (without shell) tasted great, coffee pork ribs was not bad as well. Prices are on the steeper side, considering its in a coffeehouse. Will come back again to try their other dishes. However, you are only given 90 minutes for dine-in. To get a table in the air-conditioned area, there is a minimum $250 spend.

  • 5/5 Bonnie Z. 5 months ago on Google
Saw this place on Netflix Street Food Asia and it definitely lived up to the hype! The chili crab was fresh and flavorful and the claypot liver rice was fragrant and so well done. The owner was friendly too. An absolute must-try if you’re in Singapore.

Absolute Yummy - one word summary for this place ! I ordered crab fried rice, veggies and tofu with pork. Best thing is that the oil in the food was less and even after eating much, we did not feel so heavy or uncomfy. Definitely a place to hang out and have awesome food !!!

Super tasty zi char food - famous for their moonlight hor fun and coffee pork ribs. Two thumbs up!!!! (10 thumbs if I can borrow others) Super crowded and is very popular. Not sure if you can call to make reservation but you can try to avoid disappointment or long queues.

Decent Zi Char Cuisine. Its a bit far from the cbd and not easily accessible by MRT but has that good old charm of a neighbourhood eatery. Food is ok but not amazing. Loved their horfun! White pepper crab is not very meaty and doesn’t taste as fresh as i’d like it to be. This restaurant is huge and can be fully booked. Not sure why its so popular, maybe we ordered the wrong dishes lol! Service is good. There’s only a few seats inside their air conditioned dining area but don’t fret as there’s a to of ceiling fans to beat the heat!

  • 3/5 Angela Y. 1 year ago on Google
The crab was fresh but wasn’t served warm. The salt egg sauce was nothing special, tasted like cream sauce than salted egg. The minced meat egg plan with salted fish was tasty, other dishes were ok. Service was fast and efficient. Will probably go back try other dishes.

  • 5/5 Cedric C. 1 year ago on Google
I am truly amazed with the speed of the food arriving on the table on a packed night! First dish arrived on the table within 10 mins upon ordering. Pre-cooked you may think? But they all tasted really good. The fish head curry was special and tasted great, but the fish was a tad meatless. The claypot pig liver was very good! Mix in a bowl rice while it is still bubbling and it is heaven! The herbal prawn soup has 4 big and 1 small prawns ☹️. The service staff was attentive and chatty. Only drawback was the presence of mozzies, bring some mozzie patches. Reservation is strongly recommended, walk ins can take up to 30 to 45mins wait. Highly recommended!!

KEK needs no introduction. It’s the zichar kopitiam frequented by locals and tourists, known for their consistently good food and fast, friendly service. Our family of 5 managed to get a table almost immediately when we arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night. Deets in the pics.

Service and atmosphere are good but food is okay only. Prawn roll was the best item for me (out of all we ordered) as water chestnut was very generous. The cereal squid was did not 入味 so the squids were quite plain though the cereal was very generous. The marmite chicken was sweet but didn't really have any taste of marmite. Their golden roll wasn't anything special. And the moonlight hor fun lacked the wok hey taste. Spent around $147 for 7 dishes and 7 pax. Not sure if we will come back again.

Good tze char place in the area. The Coffee pork ribs have to be the best item on the menu, moonlight horfun taste a bit like char kuay Teow with beef and seafood, “Choy Hiang” beancurd is quite nice. Chili crab is on the sweeter side rather than spicy. Mantou is big and fluffy.

Been craving the Claypot Pig Liver for a very long time and brought my family there to try! For a non pig liver eater like me, theirs is the only 1 I eat. Remember to order a boel of rice and mix it in! Love the moonlight horfun too! Food and prices are generally good except that they're a little salty and crab price was a little expensive. I havent ordered crab outside for a long time so I'm not sure what's the usual rates, aside from marker price. But the crab we got was $86 and just felt a little too expensive for 1. Overall still a good experience and will definitely return, just maybe not for crab! 🤣 FYI; we ordered Moonlight Horfun, Cereal Sotong, Garlic French Beans, Crispy Skin Chicken, Steamed Crab, Three Egg Spinach, Prawn Roll, Claypot Pig Liver

The crab’s price is the same as Long Beach, and I think Long Beach’s crabs are much more fresher, and the environment is so much better. This is just a coffee shop environment but with a restaurant price, will go back to Long Beach if I have craving for crabs though this is much nearer to my house. And I don’t understand why the food is not served hot when is supposed to be cooked after we order?? Think they cook beforehand to speed up the serving time.

Prices are quite steep for zi char fare. Coffee pork ribs was delicious, everything else (yam ball, horfun, salted egg squid, spinach, hotplate tofu) was good but nothing to shout about. Think I would not return because it’s not value-for-money

Good place to meet up with friends. Plenty of parking around the area. Cheap and good zhi char. Had saled egg squid, 3egg spinach, chilli crab. All dishes tasted great. Chilli crab abit normal in my opinion. Concoction a slight tint of sour. Crab wasn't the best meat. Note the bun is not your typical fried mini bun but a big soft type like a fist size... Overall great food and good value. Reservation recommended to avoid disappointment.

If you are ok with the fan seating u can choose to sit outside, if you are afraid of heat then can have the option to sit indoor aircon but there will b a minimum spending of 250. Highly recommend the claypot pork liver, moonlight horfun, salted egg crab, prawn paste chicken. Do make a reservation as it get really crowded.

Came across this stall about how they have a Singaporean boss who does the cooking himself plus I have also seen the crowd when walking pass before. Decided to come with my parents and order dishes from their signature/recommended dishes, which includes moonlight hor fun, salted egg sotong, tofu and 3 egg spinach. Overall the dishes were acceptable and I would return to try the rest of their dishes with a bigger group.

We went after watching multiple YouTube videos about this place. The owner is a bit of a local celebrity! Ordered the Moonlight Hor Fun, and the Cuttlefish KanKong. WOW, the flavours really serve up a few rounds of knockout punches! Both were great. Great ingredient to noodle ratio in the Hor Fun, and chonking great generous portions of perfectly fried lard. The cuttlefish was tender, but perfectly cooked and still has that bit of bouncy crunch to it. Compliments to the chef, both dishes really show off wok skills in an impressive way. It’s masterful. The two dishes was too much food for my wife and I, but it was no hardship to polish it off (except maybe to our cholesterol)! It wasn’t cheap, but we felt we got great value for the money. Yummy yummy stuff. Definitely will be back again for more punishment!

One of the best Zhi Zhar meals I’ve had in a coffee shop for a long while. All the dishes were spot on especially the cereal prawn, coffee pork ribs, ngoh hiang, brinjal to name a few. All the ingredients were fresh and yummy and prices were reasonable too. Service was also good and fast. They served the first dish within 10mins of ordering! Will definitely come back to try the other dishes.

Verdict: Recommended No frills Singaporean food with awesome flavors. Make sure to get a reservation if you plan on coming! Had so much food, can’t even enumerate them but make sure to get the crab!
