Tried and tested. Will not come again. I learnt about the store over recent articles and thought I should give it a try before their move to the new Dawson site when ready. Came at 6.45pm on a Sunday evening and already a long queue was formed. Maybe because there was expectation, the food didn’t turn out as good as expected (or maybe in fact disappointing). By the time we had our food, it was already 7.45pm. We ordered a chicken chop ($6) and a mixed grill ($10). No complains on the wait if the food is good. However, the sauce and marinated pork chop turned out to be too salty. The mixed grill eggs was charred, rendering it inedible (it was bitter). Chicken chop was over grilled and it was very dry too. Sides were generous with coleslaw, fries and potatoes, but in my opinion hard to compensate for the flaws of the mains. We ended up not finishing our plate and left with a super dry throat, craving for a drink to water down the meal we had. I doubt I will recommend this based on what I had. Price was decent, but taste wise... Not something that I will call delicious. I tried No.1 Western Store from next door and thought it tasted much better, costing the same price. With the wait and taste, I would gladly pay $4 more too for Aston’s grilled chicken chop instead. You didn’t miss anything if you haven’t tried this before.

I guess this would be a go to place when one is extremely hungry and would value quantity over quality. The pork cutlet was well fried but rather dry. After few bites then I realised there were 2 types of sauce beneath the meat which I assumed one was for the grilled potato, I couldn't tell which is for which cos both doesn't stand out with neither the meat nor potato and I wondered why don't they just drench the sauce directly on the respective food. Four side dishes were generously included but sadly all were lucklustre especially the coleslaw which was salty, was it meant to taste this way or they simply mishandled it? Usually I didn't want baked beans as a side but here baked beans was the only side that I managed to finished, that says alot abt the rest.

Come before 7pm and join the queue. The meat is done perfectly and fish and chips is to die for.

Messy goodness.. This is my third time trying their food I guess, after living around this area ever since I was a child. Always turn off by the extremely long queue and short operating hours. Finally get to eat it at the right moment where queue were unusually short that evening. Was also relief that I get to have it again after so many years and before they shift to the new hawker centre at Dawson. This is the very taste of old school Hainanese Western Food so don't compare it with those Astons etc. Ordered set 4 and pork chop set. Chicken was well cooked and charred while fried fish was very crispy. Porkchop was extremely tender and the bake potatoes were cooked perfectly. Love the douse of sauce on it. It might look messy but it pairs so well with the steaks and I don't mind even if my fries turned soggy. I simply love it as an whole package.

Old school western food stall with generous portions and affordable prices. I tried the mixed grill for $10, comes with 1 large piece of pork chop and chicken chop. It was so good I went back to try their beef steak on a separate occasion. Both dishes are yummy and value for money. No issues with the long queue because I went during off peak. Uncle was also friendly cos he is not so stressed. Big yum!

I decided to try this stall as I noticed that most people seem to be eating it in the hawker centre. But honestly, really not sure why it’s so popular? At $8 it is not particularly cheap. And the chicken chop just tasted bitter and very burnt although it didn’t look like it. I noticed that there are a lot of burnt bits in the sauce and on the chicken after awhile and concluded that perhaps his grill really had to be cleaned. It’s not even about the taste now with so much carbon and burnt bits I doubt it is really healthy to consume it. Has to buy a coke to wash down the taste and will definitely not be back again.

first time trying this western after hearing the recommendation from my friend. this stall only opens 2h per day on paper and may probably close slightly before 9 if they are sold out. the portion was quite generous for a $13 grilled chicken chop and fish and chip set, good enough for 2 ladies actually. both the meat were v flavourful and perfect, fish was crispy too. the fries were quite soggy after awhile cos of the sauce from the chicken. the uncle only starts operating after 7pm hence don’t try to order earlier. they were ppl waiting before 7pm when we were here on sat evening at 6.45pm, i heard weekdays were the same too. occasionally there were no queue as well, after ard 7.30pm. the queue system was v messy as per the earlier comments so do just stay ard after your orders and listen to the uncle so you don’t missed it. suggest that after ordering, ppl should queue accordingly as well to be nearer. the chef inside kept shouting the orders and throwing his pans, sauce around the kitchen so it’s really noisy and personally felt abit stress. i heard that their sets are as per written so the uncle doesn’t accept any requests like “don’t want veg or beans” etc but he is ok to give more of those, do still try asking and let the rest know if he allows occasionally. i dare not request again cos they are quite fierce lol overall, i will def order again if i’m up for dinner after 8pm when there’s lesser queue and hopefully bring my earpiece along to reduce the noise level.

New operations in margeret drive hawker center, 30 mins wait Although they serving dishes of mixed grill fairly quickly. Then u realize they precook the chicken and pork chops and reheat them on the grill upon ordering The meats are hard and overseasoned The egg was black on the grilling side The fries was a crisscut fries and normal ones, overly fried. Very hard to say anything positive about my meal

Ordered chef set 3 ($10), chicken chop and pork chop to share among 2 person. waited 45 mins, but disappointing food. Chicken skin and meat tasted like a GIANT mouthful of salt. Pork chop is as salty as the chicken. vegetable is sour and not fresh. both of us couldn't even finish this plate.

I have eaten his ‘messy’ western dishes at his previous place, was surprised to see him here at Margaret Drive Hawker. I will always support hawkers, period. For first timers, join the queue and once you paid (cash only) wait and the food will be ready in 5-10 mins (depend on what you order) we ordered the chix chop ($8) the spring chix w/ fish & chips ($13), ready in 5 mins waiting time. You wonder why this type of preparing the food with the usual loud screaming attracts people, well you need to go have a try. As usual the food was yummy, no complaints…. Cool off at Sheng Shiong after dinner.. no brainer 😎

Mediocre western food $13; quite expensive for portion @ hawker Waiting time quite bad (30mins being the first customer) Service was quite bad, uncle kept saying “no” to our “set 2” when he could have told us “no set 2, how about set 4?” Something like that 🌝 or “today don’t have” Don’t understand the hype, wouldn’t recommend especially need to queue for this kind of food. The chicken has this strong chicken smell and it wasn’t even marinated. There are so many western food stalls in Singapore that’s better than this. Totally don’t recommend and I don’t understand why someone would recommend this on hawker united…… bad taste!

Wanted a lamb. Got a nice rack. Forgot to tell chef, he did a medium done. Doesn't like beans, included with coleslaw & fries. Value meal as it take me 30-40 mins to finish. Taste wise alright with mustard which he obliged. Doesn't like ketchup or chili. Old school me loving old school western. Order after 8:30-9:00 off peak.

Queued for about 30 mins around 7pm on Sunday evening. Food seeved in about 15 mins after we placed the order. We had chicken chop, pork chop and combo chicken pork chop. Generous serving of Fries and salad. I prefer the chicken chop over the pork chop. Overall, value for money.

Whenever i pop by this hawker centre, this stall is always closed / closing / packed with people. But tonight, i made it! And i decided to try and see what is so nice about it, decided to try the set 4 (chicken chop, fried fish, sausage, potato, fries, beans and vege). A taste of the old school, brings back memories of a less hectic time 🥹 For $13, i cannot find anywhere else that serves such a big portion! Fries is on the hard side but the crunchy feeling is shiok! The queue system is old school too, no beeper / bell. You just wait for the chef to shout your order out and take! Would definitely come again when the queue is lesser so i don’t have to wait so long 🫢

Generous portion of fish and sauce. Have been eating here for many years. Will miss this place when they move. Queue is always long but they try their best to have it done in a matter of time. Thank you. :)

Chicken chop tasted bitter, probably from the burnt grilled that most people mentioned in their review. Dont understand whats the hype about this place, even the sides were horrible. Tasteless fries, unseasoned baked potato, pickled cabbage, horribly artificial tasting baked beans? Weirdest combi ever. Try at your own risk.

Second time here after a few years, not sure why there are so many people queuing for it. Ordered grilled chicken and Set C (Chicken chop + pork chop + sausage). Reached around 6.45pm and there was already an invisible queue where people are seated on a table in front of the stall. Waited about 10-15mins after ordering before our food was ready. The surface of the pork & chicken chop were charred black. After returning home, we’re extremely thirsty and had to down loads of water. I guess we won’t be back anymore.

Huge generous portions of meat, one full potato, salad, baked beans and lots of fries. Good if you are looking for quantity, definitely enough to fill one up. Quality is ok (pork chop is a bit tough and I got a charred chicken). The meat is drowned in a brown sauce that pairs well.

Operation start 7pm. But i would highly recommend people who wish to dine around these hour to plan your queue before 6:40pm. We came at 6:30pm and is already 3rd in queue. By 6:50pm the queue had stretches to 15-18 ppl. My 4⭐️ probably due to me take out. Which loses out some hot fresh food and ambience.

Mixed Grill Combo set 4: chicken chop and fish & chips for $13. Good value for money. Portions are huge. Fries really crisp and nice. Fish and moist. Chicken chop is pretty average.

Be prepared to queue for an hour. Started queuing at 6.40pm before it opens at 7pm. By the time we had our food was 7.45pm. More than an hour. The food is generally ok. I like the pork chop best. If you are small eater do not order the set.

Chef was very frenly n cheerful. Very fast in serving as I gotten my food within 5 mins. Was hvg craving over western food so I tried. Unfortunately, some part of the chicken was quite badly over cooked n dry. The coleslaw was also not reli ok. Generous serving thou. A lot of ppl recommended but the chicken chop was was unfortunate. I will still come bk again to try another dish. N the nearby stall selling dessert will prob be the reason I wan eat there again

Chicken chop, $6. Totally worth it. Went at 8.40, waited for 5min. The baked potato was a nice touch. I think they ran out of beans but no complains

Super long Que during peak hours you must be prepared to wait. The whole hawker is full of the enthusiastic order taking and serving of the ready meals of this old school stall. Portions are huge and generous. The Que system can be slightly confusing so do ask around the regulars if it’s your first time there.
