Really informative, engaging and interesting exhibits on the history of Singapore. Whole family enjoyed our visit. We only did the main exhibits on levels 1 and 2 which took us about 3 hours. Definitely recommend Lots of exhibit that allows you to learn about the history of Singapore through the phases from back then till now. Have to purchase tickets for non-citizens and it’s about RM58 plus minus. There is also a locker room in the building located on the 2nd floor if you wanna store your larger sized bags.

The oldest museum in Singapore, which showcases works and exhibitions of Singapore art and culture. The building has been lovingly restored and renovated, and the exhibits are very good. The current "on off" exhibition showcases appliances and life in the 1960s through the 1980s, and brings back many childhood memories for me. It's a pleasure to see things like the typewriter and old school telephones, first generation computers, etc. There's also a huge hall that explores Singapore's history from the early days pre Stamford Raffles, to the Japanese occupation during WWII. It's definitely worth a visit or more! It's free admission to citizens. A wonderful place to go for a dose of nostalgia!

An impressive and majestic building housing a museum that narrates the story of Singapore's journey to its present state. The staff on duty is remarkably friendly and helpful. The museum's location is easily accessible and well-connected through public transportation.

Nice museum with some permanent exhibition and occasionally new exhibits. I think they can make it a little brighter at the exhibition hall, instead of the dimly lighted atmosphere, which at time may look eerily. Not sure if this is done on purpose but I think a brighter environment will be better.

We took the opportunity to visit during public holiday. Surprisingly the crowd was not overly crowded and there are available parking lots at the museum. We came to see the “Heritage”, yet we were only shown with a train of old Malaya train. A little disappointing. The other showcasing were just as disappointing. Too much replicas and copies instead of artifacts. There are a lots better Museums in Singapore, sadly not the National Museum. Crowd: acceptable even during PH Service: top, friendly and fast Exhibition: need more contents and refresher. I think my textbooks have been information. Time needed: 1-2hours Food & Drinks: limited options (only a cafe) Admission: free for Singapore citizens Return: maybe, depending on the exhibits. The previous time before Covid I can easily spent 3-4 hours exploring. Now, lesser than 2hours I would have covered all.

Fun to visit and get a recap on Singapore's history, especially while you're still learning more about it! Many cool and interactive stations here. Also very cool to see all the real artifacts showing.

The National Museum of Singapore is located in a beautiful building. Located on Stamford Road, the Museum is a great way to start one s time in Singapore. Various exhibitions showcase how Singapore came to be the modern city that it is today. From the British occupation, to the brief Japanese take over in the 1940s and onwards to the failed union with Malaysia. The Museum takes one across the important timeline of Singapore as a nation. Free admission for all Singapore Nationals and Residents, the museum charges $26 for travellers. There is a nice cafe and clean toilets on the premises as well. There are temporary exhibitions that keep changing often. Keep a lookout about what interests you.

My past visits were of short trips since this museum used to be crowded with many visitors. Today visit with my daughter was wonderful since I can spend enough time to stay at each exhibits as most of them are not crowded. It is indeed an excellent museum of Singapore history and I have never tired of visiting there.

From the past to the past histories... Sacrifice their life time to get it move to a good path, may not satisfy all but at least is getting better & better... things improves with a right leaders... life is getting better when we study the past to change the future...every season there are some other stories joining the past...it maybe now, maybe arts or maybe creation for the future...Enjoy every moments...

This area of Orchard Road boast quite a few museums and since the Covid19 Circuit Breaker in 2020, tourists are a thing of the past even until today in 9 August 2021, also Singapore's National Day. Other neighbouring museums such as Asian Civilisation Museum, Philatelic Museum, Singapore Art Museum, had all took the opportunity to close and renovate, rejuvenate. National Museum of Singapore currently host a long term exhibit on the History of Singapore since it's days from a small fishing village to the Metropolitan Nation state it is today. Term display currently include Pictures of the Pandemic as well as a nation building themed Home Truly, both until the 29th of August 2021. Free admission to Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents. No better way to celebrate our National Day and also reflect on the past year of Pandemic.

We saw the two permanent exhibition galleries and can only say that this is a really great museum. Very didactic. You really do learn about Singapore’s history and all the trials and tribulations the country has gone through (having become one of the best countries in the world). The staff is very helpful and polite and the building is beautiful. Do recommend this museum to anyone with a curiosity for history.

Enjoyed spending time at the National Museum of Singapore. It was a short walk from my Hotel at Fort Canning. I was particularly happy with three of the exhibits, namely, Voices of Singapore, Singapore History Gallery, and Glass Rotunda. It was great to learn a little about the history of Singapore and some of the events that shaped such an influential nation. I am certain that I will need to back to see everything.

My friend said lastly: “better than that, it could have not been” and I genuinely agree.our experience was mainly fantastic and unforgettable due to the well-designed facilities and the technical innovations which are used over there. You may count 2-3 hours for a sufficient inner tour. There was other Japanese exhibition, but i would rather just focus on the museum itself. However, absolutely worthy and beautiful day at this museum.

Spare 2-3 hrs for the visit. The history of Singapore's foundation and the development in each era is very interesting. I am impressed by the small interactive exhibition and manage to add a nice fresh grass smell to the exhibition about trees and gardens. Highly recommend to visit especially if you are into history.

Time well spent here! Good settings in museum allowing you to walk through time when Singapore was called something else as a nation and how it becomes Singapore like we see today. Like the quote saying “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”

Visited the Picturing the Pandemic and Home Truly special exhibitions at the end of April. Thoughtfully curated and moving, the pandemic exhibition brings out the sacrifices and struggles of Singapore and her people during the Circuit Breaker last year. I also enjoyed the Home Truly exhibition with its interactive exhibits. The use of the RFID tag and touch screen pen was innovative and made for an interactive, immersive experience.

Home, Truly was truly some exhibition never had before - the interactive stylus pen which allows you to answer societal questions that make you knock your brains and think through your heart. Admissions are free for Citizens and PR! The physical food-for-thoughts leaflets to hang on the board goes back to the past when we had hanged them at the back of the class board 🥺 Definitely recommend!

Visited the National Museum of Singapore for the Day of the Dead exhibition. The staff at the main entrance were welcoming and friendly and showed us where to go. The exhibition was small but was free. We really enjoyed it. Lots of colours and QR codes to scan for recorded information on each part of the display.

Worth a visit (or multiple visits if wish to really explore in detail) with various interesting artifacts from the past and representative of the times they were in throughout Singapore's history. Other exhibitions of various themes are also available for viewing in different times of the year.

Nice place to visit to get a good sense of the history of Singapore. Provides a good background of the economic evolution of the country as well as the political history. If you want to read through, like any museum you can spend the whole day here, but a couple of hours is usually enough for the casual visitor.

If you want to learn about the history and culture of Singapore, this place is mandatory to visit. It's situated in a beautiful colonial architecture building and requires 3-4 hours to visit the museum in detail. There is a souvenir shop, a restaurant, and washrooms available. If you reach after 3 pm, I would not recommend buying tickets since you won't be able to explore this place in a short time.

All about Singapore, the timeline up and down of Singapore until today.Time is really well spent while in Singapore. The museum shows you the history of the place from 1400 to current days. Highlighting the major actors who contributed to what Singapore is today, to the main events that took place. After completing the visit, you can have a good understanding of the geographical importance and why so many kingdoms have tried to gain control over the area. Although a bit sceptical about the The museum is well documented and recreates some scenes of the past to make the experience pleasant for all.

The history of World War like a puzzle, every country has their own viewpoint and story to tell. If understanding this history is one of your travelling’s purpose, I highly recommend you can go to this museum to complete your puzzle. Also, this museum is located at Singapore Museum Area, that mean there are different museums near around. And if you visited this museum, you can have a walk in the park to enjoy the relaxing trip.

We probably do not appreciate our well curated and well preserved museums in Singapore as much as it deserves. I've always found our museums to be meticulously documented, preserved and well maintained. Spent the afternoon here as its free for Singapore Citizens (What a great benefit!). Really enjoyed the different exhibits!

The national museum of Singapore has high quality permanent exhibits, which I enjoy going to every few years. The special exhibits though are where the action is at. They are always extensively researched and curated, with interesting and deep insights and facts. You’ll always step away with more perspective and appreciation of Singapore and the world whenever you take a visit. The building itself is well maintained and, while a little messy, well laid out. Its halls alone are beautiful enough to walk around. The ongoing home exhibition is particularly nostalgic and appropriate given the macro COVID situation (more % of SG visitors), and I would say reflects the thoughtfulness of how exhibitions are developed and presented.

Free for students studying in Singaporean Institutes. Ticket costs in general SGD 26 per adult, but we need not pay anything as we showed our NUS e-ID card and student pass. This is an excellent museum housed in a restored heritage building with connected newly built spaces. You can go through Singapore's journey from early time to contemporary terms. Political history, racial history, etc. are nicely depicted throughout the museum. There are some interesting interactive items. You will be amazed when you go. Took us around 4 hours to have a good glimpse of the total place. Highly recommended, especially for students and foreigners.

Great musuem for tourists and people interested in learning about Singaporean history. The exhibits were plentiful and it was popular without being crowded. I was lucky and got free entry for their 125th anniversary. Otherwise it is free for citizens abd long term residents but $26 for other residents. I do not think it is worth that price tag so I removed one star. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The cafe has a good selection- the tea latte is delicious. However it is expensive so you should probably eat elsewhere.

This is an amazing museum all about Singapore from pre-colonial time through the eras of the colonial powers and finally to the present day. I can see the enthusiasm in which the curators lovingly put together the exhibits. The information is excellent, especially in the use of personal testimonies through audio recordings and videos. The Singapore History Gallery has some very high quality exhibits and a fantastic mock up of the quarterdeck of a ship. My personal favourite section was the Forest video exhibition. It really gives you an appreciation of how hard life was back then and just how good life is in Singapore. I was only planning for 3 hours here, but ended up for 5. This museum is one of the best things to see in Singapore.

How to learn about Singapore in just one place ? Well then.. you have to visit their national museum. It’s an amazing place to learn about Singapore’s culture and history from A to Z through their thematic exhibition. Not only that, you’ll be also spoiled by the grande architecture and how they combine it with modern technology.

Visited in May 2023 on a weekday. There were a few school tours happening on that day but my girls were enjoying the museum so much that they were slowly reading everything and were in a would of their own. Spent 5 hours inside before heading to a little cafe at the side of the museum for tea. Learning when Malaysia and Singapore parted ways were great for my girls who are below 10 years old. We visited the Glass Rotunda as well and they enjoyed that most. So beautiful!

I spent 3 hours in Singapore History Gallery it shows how Singapore becomes the Singapore we know now, it's such an amazing gallery!! Unfortunately by the time I went there it only had Singapore History Gallery and Glass Rotunda for General Admissions, I'm pretty sure I can spend all day in the museums if more gallery open.

Went to the National Museum of Singapore for the “Now Boarding: Experiencing Singapore through Travel” exhibition back in June 2023. It was really interesting getting to see how the seats of an airplane looked back in the 1800s-2000s as well as the uniforms worn by the air stewardess during that period of time. The place was also clean and well maintained.

Pretty good exhibits overall, I particularly enjoyed the early Singapore/maritime trade exhibit at B1, the highlight of which was the embryo of a manatee in a jar. But the glass rotunda was a miss for me, maybe children and tree enthusiasts would enjoy it more. The police exhibit at level 1 was alright as well. The exit of the museum was pretty confusing though, you can’t leave through the entrance.

I have been to National Museum a couple of times but this Story of the Forest is new for me. This was created by Team Lab and it is a nice break from the other galleries. It utilizes cutting-edge technology to transform 68 drawings which comes to life and interact with visitors as they make their way down the Glass Rotunda. Fun for the younger kids if they are bored from the other galleries which are more serious and informative.

To be frank, I have never heard of this museum until my girlfriend brought me here. There's no wow factor and attractions are very limited and pretty boring despite being someone that really enjoys history. There are better museums out there, don't waste your time. It is pretty inaccessible as well.

The museum is really big with many exhibitions and interesting light displays. I spent over 3hours there and couldn't finish it all (that is if you read every single information board). I reckon another hour or so would suffice to see everything in detail. The museum is extremely clean , hand sanitizer provided at every door during covid 19.

The exhibitions were so so. I guess the natural exhibits of yesteryear were moved to the lee Kong chian natural history museum. Last week I was at the National Gallery. I think there has to be sharper distinction in the offering by national museum, national gallery and Asian civilisation. Not to mention the art museum at St Joseph and the war museum at siloso and built chandu.

Nice place. Good place to learn about the Singapore Story. 700 years of history in one place is something a textbook cannot hope to achieve. A look into the history of Singapore like no other, except when some grandfathers start telling their stories. Hope to be one of the exhibits next time.

Probably the most amazing "national museum" I've been, and I've traveled quite a bit. The mix between a tradicional museum and modem technology features makes the visiting experience extremely enjoyable and fluid. Definitely a must-visit in Singapore!

Famous place to learn Singapore history. Good for family, good for foreigner, too. The building, interior is nice and many valuable documents, goods here. From the ground floor, you can go through Singapore history to go up. There is different artistic theme museum on top floor by Team Lab from Japan. But I think entrance fee might be high for foreigner. No fee is required to local. To let foreigner know Singapore, it is a little sad thing.

The place is lovely though not much artifacts to see for a museum. Cute compared to large museums around the world like the British Museum. But they do try to compensate with special limited events such as the Doraemon exhibition.

The National Museum of Singapore or NMS is a must-see and must-visit for anyone who seeks a deep interest into Singapore's history from its origins to the fast-forward nation it is today. Exhibitions are well-equipped with real-life replicas and preserved historical artifacts that still fascinates people today. For locals, please bring along NRIC for local admissiona rate (which is free, but, otherwise please check ahead)

I have not been to the National Museum for over 20 years now. It was a nice surprise when I stepped in yesterday. For a start, Singaporean and PR are given free entries! Yeah ! I am especially thrilled to view the ‘Truly Home’ exhibition. It literally brought me back into time! The old gas cooker stove, courtesy campaigns, old hdb flats etc ( the school report card that was on displayed had a very poor student results !! I was so amused they they put weak student grades on display ! Hahah). Overall, the whole museum is a great place to feel the history of Singapore. I did. PT know they Temasek was actually a word translated from chinese instead of Malay! Go see the museum ! Go feel like a true Singaporean of the past !!!

beyond the picturesque architecture, it’s always a time well spent at the national museum having an in-depth look at singapore’s colourful history through the permanent exhibits. recently they’ve opened an exhibit called ‘picturing the pandemic’ which was quite interesting. there’s another one called ‘home, truly’ and both run till sometime this october so go while you still can. the museum is very accessible by public transport and admission is free for singaporeans and PRs. if you’re neither, tickets at discounted prices are available on klook.

NMS Amusement Park was a tad disappointing. Not much there - a few posters about old school amusement park, a few game stalls, one mini train ride and one mini carousel. Remember to go to their microsite to answer 5 questions to redeem a free token! Limited to 80 redemptions a day. But don't give up on the museum just yet! Go check out the other exhibition halls and installations like "Our School" and "Our Home" (these 2 need prebooking of slots on Peatix, is free). May be abit mehhh but ok lah...

The lady staff at the entrance was very friendly and service oriented. And the museum is free for citizens so nothing to complain about. Last entry is 6.30pm and you will take about an hour to see all the exhibits. Good place to bring kids to educate them on Singapore's history.

Awesome museum, especially if you're into history. Very clean. Pay attention to the museum's floor plans because the place is quite big. I was able to buy tickets since I went on a normal weekday. Weekends and holidays are probably busier. And check out "Dislocations" while you still can. It's about the fall of Singapore during World War II. I'm glad the museum documented this dark history in the country's history so that it will never be forgotten.

Do come early to avoid peak crowds and long queues. Then only will you marvel with the mystic wonder of History. Its history dated back to 1849 as the Raffles Library and Museum. Level 1 and 2 are mostly permanent displays. Singapore's past colonial roots and life in the early years. Basement 1 are more interactive. From 10 Jun to 30 Oct 2022 - experience the "OFF / ON: Everyday Technology that Changed our Lives, 1970s – 2000s" exhibit. A nostalgic run of yesteryear tech that has dissolved in history and brought back from time. Try out the typewriters and rotary phones among many others. Opens from 10am to 7pm (do check website for early closure). FREE Admission to Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident.

Went here to be enlightened how this little nation turned out to be one of the most successful country in a short span of time, was not disappointed. The interior is amazing as well. It is also connected to Fort Canning which will give you more insights of their history. Just a bit sad that the Glass Rotunda was undergoing renovation when I came here. Nonetheless, an amazing experience.

Went to the museum for the first time. I have to say it is a very good curated experience. I went during the travel exhibition of Singapore and it was really good. I highly recommend for anyone travelling anywhere, they should visit the museum at least once plus this one is clean, well maintained and air con. The line can be long though because they only have 3 ticket booths but not a very long wait time, so I suggest buying one in advance.

Lots of exhibit that allows you to learn about the history of Singapore through the phases from back then till now. Have to purchase tickets for non-citizens and it’s about RM58 plus minus. There is also a locker room in the building located on the 2nd floor if you wanna store your larger sized bags.

I am enjoying this current season at the national museum with a variety of new exhibits that are each worth 2-3 visits to enjoy fully. They have a tank. Best place I went to in Singapore. A little pricey but very entertaining. You have to pay more to see every exhibition but unlike other places you can buy a ticket to see them all. The price was 20 SD for a student ticket to all galleries. The light event they had was really good.

Really enjoyed my visit to the National Museum of Singapore which chronicles the country’s history from pre-colonization, British rule, Japanese occupation, road to independence and on to the present day. Such a wonderful feeling returning to NMS for a site inspection for an upcoming event. On a Friday after lunch, the museum is alive with visitors - a good buzz that is not overcrowded . Casual dining at Food for thoughts and if you fancy white linen table service - Flutes offers a classy French style dining in this historical building. Do stop by Supermama (gift shop) to pick up some memorabilia of the city, lots of coffee table books and modern quirky design souvenirs worthy as gifts or to keep for a long time. Spotted postcards I usually would have picked up on my own away from home trips - will truly level up the experience with postage service available.

  • 5/5 Yvonne L. 9 months ago on Google
Turn right after the entrance, and you will be guided to admission. I spent 2-3 hours inside the museum. Recommend starting at level 1, where they start explaining how people live in Singapore in the old days and move yourself to level 2 for the latest history. There are a few galleries not related to historical knowledge, such as the glass rotunda and a special gallery that give a broad understanding of how Singapore travel, eat, and where tourist stay and have entertainment. The gallery of Semangat Yang Baru has an interactive bracket that allows you to answer questions and get a test result of what kind of champion you are, which is located in the basement level with the special gallery.

Visited on a Monday afternoon and there were a lot more people than i expected. I think we were there at the same time as 2 or 3 other schools on a trip hence the crowd. Entrance to the museum is free if you’re a Singapore citizen or PR or under 6 y/o regardless of nationality. The Now Boarding exhibit was really cool and would really recommend checking it out! It is on till November 2023. Upon entry, you’d receive a “boarding pass” that can be scanned at certain installations which activates bonus content. Super cute and i love it! Also saw the Story Of The Forest exhibit at the Glass Rotunda and it was beautiful. The entire place smelled really nice too - the artists worked with a company to engineer(?) a scent for the installation. The other permanent exhibits are mostly focused on Singapore’s history.

We were lucky enough to join an insightful tour guide season. Got to learn about the history of Singapore and many fun facts that led to its independence. Was surprised to find a exhibition by the team lab, but the quality was not as high as its independent show. Overall a good visit.

Immerse yourself into Singapore's history and be totally blown away by the rate at which it progressed to the nation it is today. The story is told in a creative and interactive way. Definitely worth spending a few hours here to absorb everything and enjoy being taken back in time.

A fascinating glimpse into the history of Singapore, providing insights to the struggles of its various groups working together to establish their fledgling country. The special exhibit is a well-crafted distillation of Singapore’s efforts to promote itself as a tourist destination and global city over the decades. 2.5 to 3 hours should be enough to take everything in.

National Museum of Singapore is a real treasure to explore Singapore’s past, development and how it become to what we see today. Also worthwhile to visit the temporary exhibitions! A great weekend excursion for children & adults alike!

  • 5/5 Kiawoon C. 7 months ago on Google
Always enjoy the different exhibitions here throughout the year. Most exhibitions are free for Singaporeans, good to learn about different aspects of Singapore without it being too boring. Staff are courteous and premises are always clean, toilets are aplenty. Would appreciate if there were more descriptions in different languages (e.g. Chinese). Currently, seems like there’s a system to scan QR code for description in other languages, but this can be quite tough for some of the elderly to use. It can get really crowded during weekends for certain exhibitions or special events like the night fest. Also worth a visit just to see the building, quite pretty.

  • 5/5 Dzifa D. 6 months ago on Google
This is the most informative museum experience I’ve had. I think anyone who goes to Singapore should absolutely pass by the national museum. It gives an elaborate breakdown of the history of Singapore’s double separation from Malaysia, and the events that led to it. The guide was entertaining, making us guess some facts and trivia. The phone had a recorded message, it made you feel like you were there during the wars.

  • 5/5 Louis C. 7 months ago on Google
A great museum. Been there twice in a week to cover the galleries properly. A lot of interesting things to learn about Singapore history. Singaporeans enter free of charge which is very worth it. Foreign visitors pay a small fee which is value for money to learn and view the artefacts. The things at the Supermama store is priced at a higher end.

Visited this museum as it is located within a short walking distance from my hotel at Bencoolen Street. Needless to say, I was very impressed upon my visit! The museum offers a journey of Singapore's history from prehistoric to modern times that is presented in a detailed but concise journey. I would recommend allotting at least two hours here to enjoy what the museum has to offer.

a cool place with well curated national treasure that celebrates our past design journey but it’s a little too “propaganda-y” also, really they have some really unprofessional staffs. was minding my own business while waiting for my tickets at the counter. out of the blue, the ticketmaster approached me and demanded that i put back the brochures. she apologized after i said that i was given the copies. made no sense.

Thanks to our volunteer docent Ian for making the experience through the National Museum of Singapore interesting and rich. I love when history is told more like a story than fact after fact and he did just that for an hour. I learned a lot and spent some extra time revisiting some of the exhibits we had to speed over. All in all, beautiful gallery and a great way to get out of the heat or rain for an hour or two. I only did the main gallery and it was worth the SGD 10 cost.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the National Museum of Singapore, and I must say it was an enriching and captivating experience. From the moment you step through its grand entrance, you are immersed in the rich history and culture of this vibrant city-state. But the collection was not so reach, but the environment is enough good and peaceful.

A lovely spot to spend the afternoon, especially if the weather isn't cooperating. The rotating exhibitions are always very thoughtfully put together and there are family-friendly activities every month. A chance discovery on my most recent visit was that they've created an elderly-friendly activity space called Reunion in one of the wings - beautifully decorated, and with interesting nooks for the elderly to sit, reconnect with each other and listen to music. Snacks are available at the adjoining Cafe Brera which is nice and cosy.

Really fun to visit! Definitely worth spending your time there. Although sadly, I didn't have enough time to actually read all the informations. I also didn't manage to go to the Now Boarding exhibition. But I did went to the Glass Rotunda after the History Gallery, and it was absolutely rewarding!
