This place is a must stay place for people who travel. The staff is friendly and good. They have good guides and also we get to meet alot of people from around the world which is quite easier for us to travel around the city and other places. The environment is really good. It is cheap and affordable too. It has many restaurants around that area which makes it ideal spot for staying. Also this place offers free breakfast and water.

it’s not a backpackers hostel, it’s a hostel for temporary workers. The hostel was dirty everywhere, the room smelled like sweat and feet, I couldn’t stay in the room for more than 2 minutes and spent the night in the common area distracting myself with work to avoid feeling sleepy. The toilets are small and dirty with dirty, smelly mops everywhere. No elevator. I chose it for a long stopover but I regretted immediately after I got in.

Staff was nice but took me a long time to check-in. I still don't undetstand what was the problem and what made it took that long and they even ask me some questions like "are you tourist?, will you work during your travel"?... it really annoys me, i understand you guys had some bad experience with some vietnamese girls traveling in Sg, but not everyone is the same, and if you guys have to ask those questions, remember to truly apologize after that cuz it hurts us a lot who are your customers and innocent travelers. In case you guys dont know, we, single girls, got asked a lot at Sg immigration already, so you guys don't need to do the same thing as them, thanks

The bad: No wifi in the rooms, No towel, No soap, No bed curtain. You have to put the sheets on your bed when you check in. I was given the wrong train stop by the staff. There is a loud bar next to it that you can hear at night The good: The lockers are large. It's cheap for Singapore. It's somewhat close to the train. Toast with spreads is included.

I have been here since 2 years back during pandemic period. Nothing much changed, staff are still the same, everything as nice n good as before. The boss still can recognized me. This time around more European staying. Clean and quiet place. Valued for your money. Instant food and beers selling inhouse at a convenience way. The only thing is air con not cool enough. Laundry Abit exp. A good relaxing place for exploring great food and surrounded by 60s building.

This is by far the cheapest stay in Singapore, with friendly solo tourists and staffs. Some may doubt the cleanliness of the room, but i think there's nothing to complain as they provide clean bedsheet & pillow cover for u, free simple breakfast as well. The common area is spacious with free wifi access! The shower room is small but that's fine, the water current is strong. There's no shower gel but u can easily get a cheap 1 at the indian grocery store downstair. i tried to stay at Clarke quay (10 dollars more expensive than this place but really not good at all). The location of Betel Box is full with surprises if u are a food hunter. There is a tasty vegan restaurant nearby, delicious banh mi (vietnamese toast) just a few steps away. If u wan to take a bus out, just go to the nearest bus stop (just 1-2 mins away), take bus 33 to get to any other interchange stop. The bus driver is super friendly, they will tell u where to get down.

Really good hostel centrally located. The only issue is that there are many beds to each room and they no longer offer private rooms. Nonetheless, if you don't mind sharing, it is a superb place to stay. The staff are uber friendly and helpful. It is kept clean. You can organise tours from the reception. There is a great chill out area where you can meet fellow travellers. On the whole, a very very good hostel. πŸ‘

Value for money hostel, location a bit far from MRT stations but you could find plenty of vietnamese bars and cheap eateries around the hostel. Clean environment, staffs were majority helpful unless a particular old man receptionist was slightly rude. Cozy common area, there was a 🐱 inside the hostel.

Good for a 1-3 night stay. No WIFI in top floor rooms, no power outlets near the beds. Breakfast plain toast and jam/PB. Hostel is surrounded by bars with barely dressed women outside. Sketch, but all good, as this is Singapore. Friendly check-in staff, helpful information given.

Great place, friendly and accommodating staff. Nice common area with library, computers and pool table. I will want to come again to meet Whisky the resident cat. :) Tip: Better take the 8-bed or 6-bed dorm. Don't take the 20-bed dorm.

Top notch team of workers with great vibes. Great cleanliness and great common area. 18-bedroom dorm seemed to be the most refurbished and was super well kept by the workers. Neighbourhood great - budget friendly food all round and easy bus/train services to everywhere worth exploring.

Good for transit. Upstairs lacks wifi. John at the front desk was gem. Very kind and helpful. Breakfast is JUST bread and a variety of spreads. (Maybe add bolied egg?) Hostel vibes. But good ones!

Location is ok, staff is great and very helpful. The dorm and bathroom were brand new but the thing is, when you have 20 people sleeping in the same room, you can never rest properly. Big common room and kitchen for everyone to use. You can buy drinks, beers and snacks from the staff.

This place is cash only. The nearby ATMs charge a hefty withdrawal fee. Seems cheap but you have to factor in those high fees. I'm not sure that the stay was worth it for me. Location was far from everything including public transportation - at least 10 minutes (bus) or 25 minutes (train) away from transit. City center was about an hour away including the walk to buses. You also have to factor in the cost for taxis if you stay at this location. For the staff, I would recommend to warn travellers that the nearby ATM charges S$5

It's a lovely place to stay. Staff are incredibly friendly and very helpful with recommendations and guidance for walks and tours. Beds are comfortable enough and spacious. Shower and toilets are clean and it's nearby to the bus stop

Very disappointed with the management and customer service. I booked a bed and even got an email from them confirming my reservation. But two days before my arrival when I reach out to confirm the time for check-in, I was told that they did not reserve my bed for me and they are fully booked. In shock, I ask them to kindly double check, they replied at 4am that says they have one last bed available (but it is not the room type I initially reserved), and they will let another guest have it if I don’t reply before 7.45am (such a short period and early time that could be easily missed by any other guests). The person seems unapologetic as well. Perhaps a sincere apology and a friendlier attitude is too much to be asked from such a low-cost backpacker hostel. I had plenty of experience with backpacker hostels but this one is my worst. I assume if I didn’t reach out to them first, I would show up at the hostel only to be told on the spot that I have to find another place to stay for the night.

It's perfect for backpackers, solo or groups you can stay here with lots of its awesome facilities and of course you can meet the other travellers here and share anything or have fun together anytime. Loved it!

Obviously the dorm is cheaper than most in Singapore. If you're wondering why, here are a few reasons: - WiFi doesn't reach the dorm, unless you're in the bed right next to the door - Beds do not have plug sockets or curtains, and you have to fit the sheets yourself - Shared bathroom is literally inside the dorm - so you will hear people showering, toileting, brushing their teeth etc whilst you are in bed - Location is a 15-minute walk from the nearest metro - Breakfast is the usual budget toast and spread The staff are cool and water/tea/instant coffee is available. If none of the above bothers you and you're visiting Singapore on a budget, then I'd recommend this place. But I really wish the owners would invest in a WiFi extender...

Had a great time. Staff (John and others) were really friendly and helpful. Gave us tips on where to visit and how to get there. Washrooms were clean, rooms were clean

Really nice location in the middle of the historical Peranakan part of Singapore. Really lovely staff, happy to help with any questions, food recommendations, local places. Started off with really helpful itineraries for the day out, including which buses/trains to get between Chinatown, Little India, the Marina Bay, etc

Decent hostel with friendly staff and decent prices for Singapore. But not the cleanest or most feature-rich hostel ever. I’d give it 3 stars for that.

Excellent value hostel. Great staff. Strong ac in the dorms at night. Quiet. Nice social area. Free toast for breakfast. Nearby to bus stops and 15-20 minute walk to train to airport and other areas.

Great little Backpackers close to town center.....very friendly staff.... If you haven't yet, try the green coconut jam....

This place gets 4 stars because of the excellent service, the best reception staff we've met throughout all our travels in SEA. John is a great asset to the team and super fun to hang out with. Loses a star because the bathrooms/dorm rooms leave a little to be desired, but still very reasonable at th price point! Curtains would be an easy addition that would help a lot!

A lovely place to stay. Staff are incredibly friendly and very helpful with recommendations and guidance for walks and tours. Beds are comfortable enough and spacious. Shower and toilets are clean. Good communal area and a nice vibe and great location with surrounding food and drink places.

The people who run the hostel are SO lovely and very knowledgeable in where to go. Loved the location which is in a different but lively part of the city with brilliant Hawkers markets all around.

Great hostel, with perfect vibe and amazing staff. Every member of the staff is super friendly and happy to give advice and suggestions as much as to just have a nice chat

We were supposed to stay one night, and day by day managed with John we stayed one week as he tried everyday to find a bed for us! It is definitely the best place price/quality in Singapore! The breakfast is included with coffee /tea and toast with peanut butter, Chocolate paste, etc. The hostel is quite clean and the staff is amazing! Especially John as I said before, but i want to mentioned Tony, the owner who helped us a lot when I was completely sick.. He picked us up and dropped us off to the clinic, and the night, even he was not on his shift, he came help us on the airport and wait for us! He has been our saver while our time in Singapore and we owe him a lot! Thank you again! I recommend at 100% Betelbox!!

Honestly one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms are very standard hostel rooms literally just want you need. Very social environment in the common room - if you hang out there for more than 10 minutes you will definitely meet some amazing people!

  • 2/5 Tracy Michaela D. 5 years ago on Google
I know the hostel does not control all patrons but I have never been in a hostel with worse behaved roommates. In the 20 bed dorm some people are living long term. Lights on and off at all hours, talking on the phone, and singing to oneself were all common place here. 1 toilet for the 20 person dorm is not quite enough, especially when that is where people shower as well. The breakfast was decent, toast with spreads and fruit. The manager is lovely and very helpful, and the common room is large and quite comfortable.

Betel Box is the nicest hostel I've ever stayed at in a city! Starting from the really authentic, nice, safe and still conveniently located area (never mind the evening Vietnamese karaoke bar bustle) through nice spaces and facilities to very friendly, thoughtful, eco-friendly and extremely helpful owner! Looking forward to my next visit!!!

  • 5/5 Mathilde H. 4 years ago on Google
It’s a good deal quality / price. People working here are really helpful and kind. The 20 beds dorm is a bit scary but everything was ok πŸ‘ŒπŸ» Simple but good breakfast with a large choice of things to put on your toast! πŸ˜‰

Nice ambience...friendly staff John and especially Uncle Tong whose is so helpful and caring. Reached out to nice housemates Bobby...and Ramesh. And last but not least Tony for being kind enough to let us stay with discounted price for my kids. Very good experience and like homely. Will surely comes back again.

Nostalgic place and accessible in every tourist attraction. The room we booked is spacious for 2 persons. It has a shower room, clean and fresh towels are provided daily. The receptionist speaks English too and she even give the directions on the places we wanted to visit. Highly recommended!
