This is a great accommodation place for who study in NUS especially in law school. For those kent ridge campus students there are free shuttle buses between law school and kent ridge. Expect for Mr.Prata and Adam Rd food court, NUS law school’s canteen is also a good choice. I would suggest those who wish to live here rent for at least 6 months since the rental fee is very expensive for 1-3 month only. Think it twice before you decide to live here because the following are the drawbacks: The most terrible thing is wifi connection here is terrible. Free wifi it provides here only 1mbps, average download speed is less than 100kb/s, the so called premium wifi cost 30SGD per month and it only has 5mbps. Compares with broadband providers for 1Gbps at almost the same price, I am very disappointed at wifi here since it can’t finish mostly daily uses. Another drawback is the kitchen is somehow dirty. The fridges are always filled with stuff and seem that they have never been cleaned. They smell terrible inside. Luckily I don’t cook here. If you are a NUS student, non-cooker and could tolerate the poor network connection, I would suggest you to live here, otherwise I would suggest you to live somewhere else. If the management of yoha evans notice this comment, please provide better wifi and clean the fridges regularly as soon as possible. These factors are severely degrading your reputation.

I lived here only for a month and my experience was quite memorable. I had the freedom to go and come around at anytime of the day. You’re allowed to get visitors too until 10 pm. There are bbq pits, a gym, a swing and good seating available. The place is really quite and peaceful. The pantry is huge but it needs to be cleaned more often. The staff is friendly. The rates are a bit high but you’re assured your personal space. The rooms are available as per your choice and has attached washrooms. The nearest MRT is Steves or Botanic Gardens. Mr Prata is located right next to it and is open 24x7 for delicious food. They also provided breakfast during the weekdays. Good stay.

Want to enjoy 24 hours noise? Come and stay at yo:HA@evans. You will enjoy your neighbours noise at midnight from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. The B101 room talking very loudly every night from 1 to 3 a.m. during the quiet time and bring girl to his room. Also, you will enjoy the outside noise whole day, the benches just outside the window will attract crowd of people to talking outside your window for several hours. YOU WILL NOT ABLE TO SLEEP EITHER WORKING TIME OR NIGHT!!! want to change to a quiet room? After you check in, NO ONE WILL HELP YOU TO CHANGE THE ROOM, the management office will keep saying there are no rooms available for change, their rooms are all full ( but they have room for other people to check in, interesting). The noise will still there everyday and THE HOSTEL WILL JUST IGNORE EVERY COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TENANTS. By the way, there is a pre-school at the basement of hostel, which is quite noisy if your room is in block A or B, they are not only noise at working days, but also play loudly music and using noisy machines to do the cleaning on weekends.

The rooms themselves arnt bad, although they are quite small especially for two people and they smell funny at times. The staff is generally polite and professional as well, although theres no real way to contact them on the weekends or after 6pm if something goes wrong or you need help. The rooms are also mostly clean except for some gross spots in the washroom and in corners. The main problem that we had was everything else about the stay there. Firstly the wifi is terrible. Download and upload speeds average at a third of a megabyte and the wifi requires re logging in to their system every time using a password that you cant change (which is likely going to be hard to remember). If you want to use more than 2 devices per password good luck because you will likely get locked out with an error. Laundry perpetually has a significant number of machines out of order and all the dryers dont work. They also only allow filling up the card with amounts larger theb 20$ so good luck if you're only staying for 2 or 3 weeks. The washing machines are usable at best and smell really weird (may rub off on clothes) at worst. Also, good luck finding your clothes in the dark if you let them out to hang dry. The drying area has no lights. Aditionally the doors auto lock and they charge a $10 fee if you get locked out. I understand discouraging lockouts but it doesnt cost them anything and it feels like a predatory practise. This is especially true for a student hostel where they're accommodating students who may be rushed and not have a lot of cash. The athletic rooms and amenities additionally cost more which seems to be another penny pinching move when we already pay for our stay, where they overtly advertise these ameneties. The furniture itself is generally low quality with most desks peeling and sharp corners coming off. Also there arnt any garbage cans in the room and the sink faucets only stay on for a few seconds when pressed. However these more or less get the job done and are not too bad considering the price. Ultimately it feels like a cheap option preying on the low standards and few options given to students. I am sure that many of the staff genuinely care and attempt to make the experience pleasant, but their efforts are seriously hindered by the clear indifference and exploitative attitude of whatever upper management is in charge. Change the lockout procedure, fix the wifi, add baking soda and garbage cans to the rooms, and maintain the washers and dryers better and you could remove the vast majority of the issues here. However in its current state, I cant honestly recommend staying unless its dirt cheap.

This place is suck, the room is tiny the facilities are poor, the washing machine are dirty to use and all the refrigerators got very bad smell and even some cannot close. The poorest thing is the internet, you will get disconnected for most of the time and super super slow. The manager here also irresponsible I have text them for many times about the internet but never reply me. It’s the most bad choice to stay here.

YOHA Evans - A complete sham and incredibly rude office staff. I was standing in the shower when the sink fell off the wall narrowly missing my foot as I caught it! Had I not caught it the bathroom floor would be carpeted in a million ceramic shards, so frankly I did them a favour by saving the basin. I reported this the Saturday it happened to the warden on duty (as the office is not open on weekends-funny considering this is a hostel designed to cater to international students). He told me it would be fixed on Monday. Come Thursday I approached the office in the small time I had when I wasn't at work or studying to encounter the rudest woman I have ever met. She essentially told me either I pay for it or it doesn't get fixed and I pay for it anyway. NOTE the point of the inventory room sheets guests are required to sign is purely to make them liable for the faulty rooms and features objects such as a mirror that aren't even in the room. Regardless off the sink debacle yoha at evens resembles a refugee camp. With a kitchen/laundry room where the dryers don't work and the fridges are used to cultivate mould like it's a goddam science project. On the topic of mould the rooms are full of it! Bugs litter the ceiling there are traces of rats also ! (If I could attach images I would!). We paid extra for sheets in our 6 week stay which consisted off a top sheet on a mattress that upon inspection looked like it was pulled from the street. I now have a horrible skin condition that I didn't have before I came. Many rooms have incredibly poor ventilation and specks of mould pattern the mattresses. I will just emphasise it again, the office staff are intolerablely rude. With payment systems set up to rip you off. The gym is not included and has extremely limited equipment. There is no kind of housekeeping I have ever seen and many rooms have a natural foul odour. For this price one could bargain for a hotel stay! The laundry machines require a 30 dollar non refundable deposit on the card and to dry anything is impossible between the ineffective dryers and humidity in the rooms. The complementary breakfast consists of a lot of bread with spread and a dozen hard boiled eggs for the entire population of the site (easily 200). Upon my school attempting to rectify the matter with the sink they where met with levels and levels of rude and combative people with interest purely in getting my money. As an expat and a law student they can count themselves lucky the basin didn't fall on my foot and injure me as the proceeding cost to them would far outweigh the money they are attempting to scab from me. Frankly the only good thing about this site is mr pratta next door. I recommend the murtabah but this is a venue exclusive to yoha. So do yourself a favour for your health and wallet and avoid the hostel at all costs!

Extremely badly run administration. upon visiting YoHa Evans in person on the 17th of December the staff informed me that there were several vacant Premium Single Rooms for booking. Despite the fact that the website allowed me to make the booking and their staff guaranteed that there were vacant rooms, several days after I made the booking they cancelled without notifying me. After visiting YoHa evans I specifically requested for a Single Premium with attached bathroom, I was even taken to see the room at YoHA evans, the staff informed me that such rooms were available and I was able to make the booking, as the website allowed me to enter the information and make the payment. Just before my planned move date in January they cancelled the booking with no explanation! Extremely unprofessional and very deceitful! Do not trust.

It is smelly, dirty as hell and all equipments are broken. There is no gym. Would not recommend at all. IT IS NOT AT ALL LIKE THE PICTURES ON THE WEBSITE. DO NOT GET FOOLED! Plus the landlord are very ride when it comes to rent. You need to pay it on the due date otherwise they will ask you to leave.

I stayed at yo:HA @ Evans for about more than 2 months, and I advise any international students to only stay for a maximum of 1 month to seek a rented accommodation or avoid at all if possible. Here are some reasons on WHY I rated this place so poorly. 1. Dirty and Neglected Facilities: Firstly, yo:HA @ Evans advertised on their site "safe and comfortable living environment for all". Yet, the neglected facilities shows this is not the case. Male public washroom toilets are dirty due to inconsiderate students. Some of the doors in public showers are broken and can't be locked. Students have to shower while keeping an eye on the door. How is this tolerated by the management? Moreover, there is only cold showers for the public washrooms. Secondly, the washing machines and dryers are unmaintained and dirty. Laundry machines are paid by a fixed rate of $2/hour. Washing machines are faulty and frequently have issues with spin-drying. I have frequent occasion where I have to pay an extra $2 to transfer clothes to a different washing just to spin dry a few minutes because the first washing machine was faulty. Additionally, the dryers are slow at drying your clothes even at max heat. It takes 2 hours to fully dry any normal clothing (excluding thick clothes like jeans). Hence, your looking at $6-$8 per laundry or $2-$4 if you dry outside. Thirdly, there is a microwave, electric stove and rice cooker provided in the pantry but their dirty and stained. Fridges are always full and moldy due to inconsiderate students who put expired food in there. On Block A 3rd floor pantry, there are rats and pantry sink and countertops and dirty! The overall conditions of public pantries are unsanitary and not usable. 2. Wi-Fi: The Wi-Fi speed is less than adequate for online lessons. Most schools are still in a mix of online and physical lessons. With a maximum download speed of less than 1mbps, it is almost impossible to do online lessons. You would either have to fork out extra money and purchase their "Guest-Premium Wi-Fi" which is advertised at 10mbps (*I did not try it), or purchase your own mobile hotspot. Additionally, you can only connect a maximum of 2 devices. 3. Rooms and Pricing: My single room without attached bathroom costs me $830/month. With laundry every 3-4 days around $12/week. Hence, an average total spending of almost $850+. I got a twin-share room due to lack of rooms available but I live alone. The room condition was only in acceptable condition. Curtains were moldy, bed had stains, closet was dirty and had spider webs on check-in. Room is quite small and you would need manage your space well. Now to be fair, the office staffs, cleaners and security guards were very friendly and accommodating. There is an Indian food restaurant (Mr. Prata) next door with 10% discounts for hostel residents as of at time of writing, nearby amenities like bus stops, MRT stations and groceries. But the other points I mentioned above have completely overshadowed them. To conclude this review, I do not recommend anyone to stay here for longer than intended. In my personal opinion, I felt like living in a prison dorm giving the conditions of the facilities and felt cheated with the pricing. Given the higher price to pay for shorter rentals, staying at a budget hotel for 1 month while seeking rented accommodation is much better.

Small claims court is under consideration. Everyone considering this room, don't ever choose this one. Literally a fraudulent company. I paid about $1500 for a 30-minute stay (it's a MINUTE, not HOUR or even DAY) I am sorry for using inappropriate words. But in my country, this experience is commonly referred to as "fraud" or "scam". Therefore I use this expression. Mattresses not cleaned, it is filled with dust. Air conditioners that do not match the appropriate remote controls. Common fridges that are full and unusable. They said it gets checked and cleaned every Wednesday. A picture of the fridge on Wednesday is shown below. You lied to me. To make matters worse, they would not give me the keys unless I signed a contract. This means we cannot check these worst-case scenarios in advance. I insisted on cancelling within 30 minutes of entering the room. I insisted on cancellation on the grounds of inadequate equipment. The office's response was to remedy the situation by the next day. I checked the next day and nothing had been resolved. If in doubt, check the CCTV. The office's reply was that since I signed the contract, that was unacceptable. That contract should be unacceptable because the manager has not yet signed it, but they are stubbornly refusing to give it back. What is the difference between this and fraud? Office hours are scarce and emails are surprisingly slow to reply except when it comes to paying money, of course not about refund. The room I decided to stay in as an alternative (not this scam room) had a single contract and gave me plenty of time to see the room beforehand. Thank you. I will be very careful with contracts in the future and have learned the lesson that I may find myself the victim of a scam. I sympathise that you're struggling to raise funds because of COVID-19, but this approach, which is so terrible, is going to strangle you in the future. By the way, I think Grav Malhotra posted a similar review, was it deleted??? That is so scary.

NEVER EVER STAY HERE: My experience was that it is a fleecing defrauding machine where you will be forced to sign a contract full of traps and if you refuse to sign it, they will compel you to pay them the rate of a high-end hotel for their dump hostel (they charged me over 550 dollars for 5 days). The WEBSITE IS A HIGHLY MISLEADING TRAP and the staff behave like professional conmen. I have stayed in Hostels all over the world but this was ten times worse than the worst. Do yourself a favor, pay more but don’t ever stay here. Tiny rooms, no kitchen, pathetic staff, no privacy, isolated living, horrible internet and on top of all, a contract which is like signing your own death warrant. #noyonoha #trap #worstexperienceever

Meh. Regular dorm living in a very old building. Pretty place though. Rooms are hit or miss. Fantastic location: near the major towns and in a very wealthy and well-travelled neighborhood. The neighbourhood was amazing, but that's not particular to this hostel itself. Couple more in the same area.

Dust in the room can be a carpet, no housekeeping. A rat has a Patty on the ceiling, a cockroach has a concert on the ground. Mold was everywhere in the room, on the bed, in the drawers, everywhere. There is no gym. I repeat, there is no gym. The staff have a terrible attitude, especially the manager. Wifi speed limit and frequent dropped calls.

Great place to stay if you’re like me, unable to get a school dormitory (that is offered to CCA leaders instead of ppl who don’t have a home in Singapore) and too poor to rent houses elsewhere. The staff here are really nice. A guy carried my massive luggage box on top of his head to my room on the second floor on my first day here. Really appreciate it. I was shocked by the size of the room as it is twice as big as my previous single room but the size varies and I think I was lucky to get the biggest one here. Also I love the environment here. Surrounded by greeneries and I enjoy taking a walk around the botanic garden which is nearby. Bad things are that buildings are a bit old (but still acceptable) and the dryers don’t really work so I had to carry a full luggage of clothes to wash at my friend’s place every weekend. But the washing machines are fine and if you don’t mind you can hang your clothes in the yard or in your room. If you’re not a fan of lizards this might not be a good place for you. Sometimes I could hear lizard soprano having concert in my room. The kitchen is messy but since I don’t use it I don’t really mind. Distance might be a problem as you need to walk a bit to the nearest bus stop and MRT station, but if you’re studying in NUS you can take the BTC bus nearby and it’s quite fast. Overall, I’m surprised that you can get a single room with bathroom at this price in Singapore. Totally worth it.

I have stayed in yoha@Evans throughout my whole college which is for 3 years and my experience was slightly below the average. Lets start off with the few good things; the security staff were very friendly and helpful whenever there was something that needed to be fixed or just casually exchanging a friendly greeting. The office staff in my first 2 years of staying there was a Filipino and Chinese lady who were nice and helpful and timely replied to my emails. Since the electric and water bill were part of the whole rental pay, I could turn on the aircon for as long as I want in the room, but of course not 24/7. Because the hostel is located at Botanic Gardens, it’s 70% surrounded by nature which is peaceful to the state of mind while walking to the nearest mrt or bus stop. Now for the bad part; I lived in a three-sharing room and it was relatively small for three people to live together, but now they had changed the system due to covid that only two people can live in a three-sharing which I guess is better in terms of having one less person in the room. What I dread the most is the kitchen, you can tell that the cleaners or housekeepers are lazy on doing their job. Although it looks like it’s clean, the counter tops and the induction stoves are always greasy. They don’t bother to clean the inside of the microwave either ever since I lived there. The refrigerators are very old to the point where some of them can’t be closed properly, also because of the fact that there are tenants excessively shoving things inside. I don’t know why yoha doesn’t bother placing lights in the clothes hanging area because it’s really dark if you want to pick up your drying clothes during the night. Last but not least, I had mentioned that the office staff during the first 2 years were really helpful, but on my last year of staying they had changed the staff to a Chinese lady and man who were not to the very least helpful at all and rarely replied to emails on important circumstances. I would email them and after a day of not replying, I had to email them once more telling them to read and reply my email, and only then they would reply which tends to get really annoying. Plus I couldn’t even call them on the phone for whatever reason.
