Used to frequent this nostalgic place before it was closed previously. The reopening have created a new lease of life with new image and food items on the menu. It was a quick visit with colleagues today for coffee after lunch. The homemade Kaya taste on the bread is still the same if not better. I like the luncheon meat bun too and hopefully will be back to try the other bread available.

It was a walk down nostalgia lane, with the eatery spruced up but still serving items from way back. They now have a bigger, breezy dining area round the side next to Katong Church. The kaya bun set was pretty good, and the bun was soft while the kaya had that homemade pandan taste as if it was cooked over a charcoal fire. The cream horn was odd tasting for us, as it had a buttery caramel or toffee aftertaste. The pastry was also a tad hard. The hae bee hiam was too salty, while the luncheon meat bun was done nicely. The sugee cake was our favourite. - it was a tad sweet but had lovely and crunchy almond bits. All the buns were superfresh and soft. Dining is restricted to 45 minutes per table, though there were no signs of strict enforcement, perhaps because if was off peak time. Staff were friendly and efficient. At $16, and with the younger crowd, it felt more like a hispter cafe rather than the old CMC as remembered. I guess one has to move with the times.

Staffs are helpful and very friendly. Overrated, long queue. The coffee, egg and toast set is normal and no surprises there. The cream horn is worth eating, but the 20-30 minutes queue will make me think twice before going back. Take away will be a better option.

Great services, especially by the uncle who looks like the manager/owner. He volunteered to take photo for others and explained many things to tourists. The breakfast foods were delicious. The charcoal kaya toast was quite nice. The bread is fluffy and soft. Soft boiled eggs were boiled correctly. Sugee cake was OK. We ordered both coffee and coffee C. Both were nice. Prices were affordable. Credit card accepted here.

Old school kopitiam serving traditional eggs, coffee and toast. The PB chocolate tart is a surprise, and very very good. Tart shell is butter and crisp, filling is smooth and chocolate-y. Kaya and butter bread is a must order as usual. Wish the coffee was a bit more intense and flavourful but overall a great place for breakfast if there isnโ€™t too much of a queue.

Well waited in Q, just to find out nothing great to surprise. So called over rated. Ambiance- 4* Service - 5* Food- 3* Soft bun not so well toasted, coffee & eggs were good. Table turn over Were fast & service was friendly both on counter & table.

The set meal is still decent to order. The other pastries desserts are good but pricey. Expect long queues during the breakfast hour. Closed by 4pm everyday.

This is my first visit after this kopitiam has been revamped by the new owners. Glad to see that the old school charm has been preserved instead of being turned into another hipster cafe. Service was friendly and welcoming while prices were reasonable. Iced kopi eas rather diluted but the eggs were perfectly cooked. Will return to try the other items!

Not been here for a very long time. Glad they revamped and organize the queuing process. Service fast Food especially the BUNS with the grilled char crunch was the killer. Eggs done perfectly and kopi/tea just wonderful. In and out in 30 mins can't ask for more.

Ambiance here is nice. Feel great to seat outdoor in the morning. The bun tasted with crispy skin and soft inside. Other nostalgic cakes and sweets look attractive also. Found the pop up store of โ€œWhite Rabbit Creamy Candyโ€ there. Surprise to see they have ice cream also and some merchandise! Felt parents childhood there.

It's very easy to find this place because itโ€™s located on the side of the road. The place is not too big but itโ€™s very comfortable and feels like home. You just need to order kaya toast set and youโ€™ll get everything you need. The bun is very soft, the combination of kaya jam and butter make the bun is very tasty. And the soft boiled egg, you just have to add soy sauce and pepper, itโ€™ll be just right. And the most important thing is the service is very good, the aunty n uncle is very welcoming and helpful. Iโ€™ll coming back for sure.

Coffee was pretty strong. Wide selection of breads and buns which taste good but would taste better if it was heated before serving. Staff encouraged customers to take photo of their branded wall, some customers looked irritated by being asked to do that. Seating is spacious and comfortable enough due to ushers who let customers in only when there is space.

Love the kaya toast (bun) here. Would be even better if they gave 2 slices of butter instead of one or perhaps allow for (upgrade) like the option to add kaya for $0.30z The coffee is lovely too. Very milky and different from most coffee shops in Singapore.

Great food, ambiance and service. Everybody super helpful walking through the menu and popular items. Calm, relaxing atmosphere away from downtown. Bonus: we left our hat there and the server ran down the block to find us ,๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜„ thank you!

Had the ice tea, chocolate peanut butter tart, cheesecake brownie and chiffon cake. Chocolate peanut butter tart was very rich - the fillings were โ€œgao gaoโ€, will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth. Chiffon cake was quite soft and fluffy. The coffee taste is pretty mild. But the texture and overall flavor is just right for me. Cheesecake brownie is very nice, but a little โ€œgilatโ€ after 3 mouth full. So good to have it as a sharing piece. I guess they used a lot of butter in the making of this cake. Price of Items are a little on the high side. But definitely worth it. Will be back.

Lovely breakfast spot with very welcoming staff (especially the uncle who made sure to give us a table closest to the fan as he could see how hot we were!!). I have come before in the morning and it gets pretty packed but this time I came after noon and it was nice and peaceful. Kaya bun was good :)

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this traditional Nanyang breakfast spot, and it exceeded all expectations. The authenticity of the food was remarkable, each dish bursting with flavor and reminiscent of genuine Nanyang flavors. The charming decor and inviting atmosphere added to the overall experience, making it a delightful place to enjoy a delicious breakfast. Highly recommended for those seeking an authentic and flavorful start to their day! Plus the food was really affordable!

No longer as good as the old days. As of now...there's nothing to wow about on the food and drinks. Service wise was good. Atmosphere.....very limited seats and it's not weather friendly be it on a sunny hot day or raining day...unless sitting inside. Not worth a long Q unless no Q then can consider to pop in.

We ordered the Kaya Toast which was visually different from your ordinary kaya toast. The bread itself was super good with their kaya jam and butter just perfectly match. The Luncheon Meat Bread was our favorite, it was simple but very hit the spot. The Cream Puff was not for our taste though, it was just OK. Despite the long queue we manage to get our table quite fast.

Fast and efficient upon ordering. The staff were very friendly to change my drink, as it was my fault for not saying no sugar. The green kaya taste is milky and with strong kaya. Only a piece of butter which is good enough. Love the soft boiled eggs. The custard puff can find better ones at other places. The cupcake is normal too. The other pastries desserts are good to go for too, but the set meal is still the best.

Personal preference, but both my friend and I prefer traditional toast instead of the buns. Not a bad place to drop by for local breakfast and old-school items that we don't see in most bakeries these days.

The kaya used is really goodโ€”just the right amount of sweetness. The butter is sliced just right. I love that the eggs are huge and fresh ๐Ÿค“ The place has good service staff too! The staff on duty was polite and quick to clear the space for the customers. When my boyfriend and I told him that the counter staff forgot to pass us the hae bee hiam bun, he was quick and proactive to grab it for us. I also loved seeing the boss being engaging with a group of regulars. It made the place feel very warm and inviting.

Working nearby and CMC always have a long queue even before they're open in the morning on a weekday; decided to drop by today to check out the hype. No queue with decent amount of customers and seating areas at 2:30pm on a midweek afternoon. The kaya butter toast set consists of 2 soft, moist buns with generous spread of kaya and a slab of butter, along with 2 soft boiled eggs and a drink of your choice. Unlike other places that serve up crispy and lightly charred toast, CMC's version of kaya butter bun is refreshing to the tastebud for sure. Iced kopi is the right mixture of sweet and bitter and "gao" enough as a second cup of caffeine-for-the-day. Luncheon meat bun was soft and fluffy, holding in a thick slice of luncheon meat as well. The staff around seems very friendly, and is seen carrying out conversations with the frequent patrons. Overall a nice experience at CMC - would come back to try out the many other choices they have available on menu. :)

Visited on a rainy day and the staff were very friendly. Uncle even offered to help every table to take photos voluntarily. Eggs were very fresh and I like the chocolate cupcake! Slightly moist and not too sweet. Bread was soft with generous amount of kaya and butter. Hoping that thereโ€™ll be more food choices in the future and overall, I enjoyed the food here! ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿฅฏ Kaya Toast set: comes with kaya toast, kopi o/c, 2 soft boiled eggs. love the kaya toast tho the bread is small & very light (not dense) - if it was thicker i would rate 10/10 for the toast alone. First time trying soft boiled eggs with salt & pepper and its not bad, not smelly. ๐ŸฅคIce Milo: if you always heard that you must try Milo in SG bcs it taste better than in Indonesia, then you cant prove it with this one bcs i tasted basic for me

Really lovely, nostalgic coffee shop. Iโ€™m really glad the owner kept the shop the way it was in the past. The floor, tables, chairs all reflected the old coffee shops in Singapore. Those I visited when I was a kid. The owner and staff in the shop are very nice and friendly. The confectionery for me was ok. I bought a few types of try and none of them really stood out for me. The cream horn was a little oily. My mom was with me when I came and they gave her a seniorsโ€™ discount which was very nice. Show your senior card if you are one to receive a discounted rate.

There is nothing but nostalgia here. On the surface, you get the standard kaya toast and egg set. However, if you delve into the elements a little deeper, you will be pleasantly surprised. We love the texture of the kaya. Brought me back to the kitchen in my childhood home. The subtle flavours of pandan come through with every bite. The buns are very soft that it feels like it melts in my mouth. Eggs are super fresh and perfectly cooked! Perfectly! Once cracked, the whole egg would plop onto the saucer. We super love our eggs this way ! Kopi was aromatic, chocolately and light! Really quite different from the regular acidic heavy kopi We just had to have the otah bun and redang puff. The otah was delicious! It isn't your regular otah. Ingredients were fresh. The balance was right. We ould have preferred more filling in the redang puff. We blame inflation for the lack off haha. Come during the off peak hours so you can waltz in .

Traditional coffee was perfect. Kaya custard bun/puff was nice. Kaya toast unfortunately not our choice interpretation but interesting. Cream horn filling was too salty and buttery, we had expected it to be more of a sweet custard or cream. No real staff to manage appearing queues/guests. I came and was not greeted or offered a table for 2minutes despite there being vacant tables.

I do prefer this place before the revamp. Not as nostalgic as before but the food is still good. The wait staff was very friendly. The kaya bread is soft and moist, different from the usual toasted bread. Walk around the neighbouring blocks to see pretty spots!

Was here for some coffee and pastries on a Saturday. Was not quite as crowded as before. Personally felt that the standard of both the coffee and pastries had fell. The ambience of the place is still good though.

  • 5/5 Joshua W. 7 months ago on Google
A very traditional place for breakfast, and the venue is often used as backdrop in local movies. The breakfast toast set is reasonably priced, and the toast is very different from other chain restaurants that sell kaya toast. Besides the toast, the Gula Melaka Coffee Chiffon Cake is a must for me. Expect a queue if you are visiting on weekends, but do come early to avoid the queue.

I went here many years ago and the old uncle was still there. Now it is run by a younger team. The food and coffee are decent, but not as nice as before. I will still go back because the food and ambience is still acceptable and this is a nostalgic place for me.

Queue for food is like a "tradition" when I visited Singapore. But didn't took so long to my turn. You will pick a table, go ordrr by yourself, take your food (if it's ready or else they may bring to you later). It's a different way to eat kaya toast because of the bread they have. Kopi is nice, but you have to pay more for ice.

One of the more affordable cafe in Katong area serving kaya toast set, pastries and local coffee and tea. If you like traditional cafe and a bit of colonial vibe..May visit to try!

Been wanting to visit after they revamped but there was always a long queue. Was surprised to snag an alfresco seat at 12noon. The old school favourites are still around much to my delight. I wasnโ€™t expecting much however it seems that they have been refined their offerings! We had Otah Bun, Hae Bee Hiam Bun, Kaya Toast, Sugee Cake. My favourites were the Otah Bun which had lots of Otah & Sugee cake which was moist yet crumbly. Will go back for their eggs which I heard is what they are known for!

It was easy to get seats during lunch. Loved the super fluffy bun that came with the breakfast set. Teh Si also pretty good. The laksa bun was tempting but at $2.50, I think itโ€™s a bit pricey. Service good - very patient and cashier repeated orders clearly. Very clean environment! Super nostalgic. Really nice place to chill.

Been wanting to come to here after their renovation late last year. The nostalgic coffee shop now spots an instagramable alfresco area. Light was great and the area was breezy. And what a wonderful way to have an afternoon tea break here. All the traditional items where they use to serve has the same taste so theres nothing much to comment about.
