This is a small restaurant. Due to space constraints, you can always have people walking close to you. It’s a popular dining place so it’s usually crowded. Came here for a weekend brunch and it didn’t take long before we get our seat. U have to order your food at the cashier. The table is really small, I have to be extremely careful while eating so as not to accidentally drop something over the table. The table is not so stable, If you use some force, it shakes. Ambience is really nice, service is good too. We order the eggs Benedict and banana bacon French toast. The food is tasty. Personally I feel the bacon is too hard to my liking. The juices are real good stuff, definitely didn’t short change consumer. Overall a good experience.

Visited Forty Hands on Sunday at around 1:30pm, it was almost full house, we managed to get a table within 5 mins. Food here is an elevated version of what you usually expect in a cafe. They do their poached eggs really well here. I highly recommend the eggs cocotte if you are looking for a healthy but tasty option. Hubs enjoyed his steak pita too - light but flavourful. Have a go at their red bean bun as dessert - not spectacular, just a nice comforting local fare in a cosy cafe setting. Coffee is good. Service from everyone is super warm. Will definitely be back!

Even though not very conveniently located, but they certainly produced very very good coffee in this place, hot or cold equally fantastic. Their main dishes are also very very good in quality (they make super nice eggs), and their cakes are all very good. Services of the staffs and ambience of a place is very good. If only the sitting area sizes can increase a bit then everything will be perfect.

One of the best places to eat in Tiong Bahru area. Nice coffee and done very consistently, can compare to those nice Australian coffee. Really liked the bacon banana french toast I had today too, taste very good and bacon is crispy but not oily. will definitely come back again

Came on a weekday lunch, was relatively crowded. Ordered the crunchy dark chocolate granola ($16), Eggs benedict with grilled bacon ($19), tau sar pau ($2.5), Kong bak pau ($12), Coachella crab fries ($13), Cubanos ($20) and cheeseburger ($20). Personally felt that the crab fries and granola can be skipped on; eggs Benny and cubanos were average but the Tau sar pau, kong bak pau and cheeseburger were really good. Not the best cheeseburger I’ve had but it’s one of the better dishes here, same goes for the kong bak pau. But for the tau sar pau, I think it’s debatable to be one of the best I’ve had 😂 honestly did not expect it from a cafe. Bun was so fluffy and soft and the filling was really smooth! Order this, you won’t regret it.

Another favourite brunch / cafe haunt of the family. Friendly staff and good food and quite large portions. We usually order 2 mains to share among 2 adult and 1 kid. My favourite drink is the matcha oatmilk latte (plus points given because they use Oatside milk 😏) They have good cakes on display too. I usually go for the banana pecan loaf.

Small place with hip-hop music and uncomfortable seats (stools which makes my spinal tired so fast). Poached eggs was over cooked, but breakfast served very fast and coffee is very delicious. I would choose this place only for a fast coffee with dessert.

Great food but really cramped seating. The smashed avo is one of the best we have tried in Singapore and the coffee was outstanding. We also ordered the pesto Panini (average) and the banana bacon french toast, which was delicious. The basement seating is rather cramped so will recommend sitting upstairs or outside if the weather is nice. The food alone is worth a visit !

Forty Hands is found along 78 Yong Siak Street, Singapore, 163078 Is a neighborhood cafe that offers great food and vibes. Though in their website they said that they have good coffee, perhaps its just my palate for arabica beans, the shop offers various coffee menus. In the picture i had the big boy breakfast composed of poached eggs, bacon strips, flat bread, corned beef, bratwurst, mushrooms and salad. The truffle fries is plenty i guess theyre offer more servings than the taste of that expensive fungi. The other plate serves ham toast and poached egg too.. Over all very nice experience. Hope to come back and review few more dishes.

Food was good, had the scrambled eggs with sourdough. Was said to be spicy but not really spicy! Cappuccino coffee was abit to the acidic fruity side, so if you prefer acidic coffee that’s for you. Friendly staff and fast service!

The food is tasty and in large portion. It's a small place but with nice ambience and friendly staff. Need to queue on weekend, suggest going earlier. Not so convenient to go as not near to mrt station but I definitely would like to visit once again.

Overall experience was great! Really enjoyed the food that we’ve ordered. Ambience - can be really crowded and small space. Reserved table is mostly recommended, I think they accept reservation. If not, need to be there and queue for quite sometime especially if you’re more than 2 pax. Menu - good variety of food and drinks to choose. I think they have local and western choices can’t remember. Staff - since it’s very busy place, you can’t really feel the customer service here. You have to seek for their attention and you order over the counter and pay before they’ll serve the food and drinks. Quality and Portion of Food and Drinks - we’re really happy with the food that we all ordered. But not really satisfied with the brew coffee that we’ve ordered. We’re expecting our large black coffee would taste strong but we’re disappointed that it’s lack of taste and kick. Price - can’t really remember but I think it’s quite decent with the portion. Will visit again for the food and perhaps will order regular size of coffee instead next time.

A famous local coffee shop in tiong bahru which is always packed with customers especially on weekends. We went there to have a coffee break on Sat afternoon, need to queue at the front door for about 15 mins Coffee with good taste and nose, at reasonable price.

The place has a nice atmosphere and is not very crowded on a weekend before 9am. The food is decent and generally cost $18 and above. We ordered the french toast bacon brishe and find the bacon to be a bit too hard. The egg Benedict was OK? The portion of the food is more than sufficient for a breakfast. Will come back again in future.

Cafe interior has the worn down feel of a back alley cafe vibe, nothing wrong but it does feel pretty cramped especially since there are no windows after the entrance. Nice touch to have dried flowers on the table but the bottle vase holding the flowers was dusty. In terms of food, the portion is generally quite big. For the eggs Benedict there is a whole side of potatoes that go with it. Steak was definitely on the tougher side and some of the potatoes felt undercooked as it was more crunchy than soft and crispy. The letdown for me was the coffee. A subpar latte art usually represents a subpar pour, and the coffee did taste a little burnt. Service wise, the queue to order moved fast and the food came pretty quick.

One of the options for brunch. Staff service quite okay but the place just only a bit crowded. Food is amazingly good 👍🏻

I like the spicy potatoes. The bacon is a little tough to chew. Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked. The latte is just alright. Indoors is hot. I'm guessing they turned off the A/C.

Very tiny place with good coffee. Got a 9$ banana chocolate round (steep for a small piece of cake) only to find egg shells in it. However the crew kindly changed the cake. Probably will still be back for the coffee.

Always see the queue on weekends morning. Finally got a chance to try. Food quality is good. Fresh, tasty, good portion, nice plate. The good thing about ice latte is the double shots without extra charge, nice flavor, while $8 itself for ice latte is not cheap. However, taking it as a $30 breakfast place, there would be improvements for the details. First, table is not clean. While the waiter already wiped, there’s still sauce and oil left, and easily found it sticky. Second, the poached egg has egg shell.

I tried their Egg Benedict and Banana Bacon French Toast. Eggs Benedict, with roasted potatoes, grilled bacon & sautéed spinach. The portion is big. I asked for spicy potato. Not overly spicy. Great for sharing. The Banana Bacon French Toast is delicious too. brioche, caramelised bananas, crispy streaky bacon and maple syrup . The brioche was fluffy with crispy bacon. A dish full of varying textures. The sweet and savory harmonies well with each other. Both dishes are beautiful and delicious. A great brunch! Lovely place for gatherings too.

Really loved the special brews we had. The big boy breakfast was also filling and hit the right spot. We also tried what they claimed to be the best red bean bun in Singapore and I have to say it was pretty good! Hard to think of one that's better

Nice ambience and service was good. Staff were friendly and approachable. Came here for Eggs Benedict and it didn’t disappoint. Love the combination of the flowing egg yolk, bacon & bread. Long black coffee was not bad but it turned cold fast.

Great place for brunch. Love that you have a choice to go Asian if western is not your thing. They serve one of the best Tau Sar Pau (Red bean Pau) - bun is silky soft and the red bean paste is not too sweet. Had the Avocado toast, sourdough bread went so well with the smashed avocado. Coffee is good too, not the sour kind. Overall rated it 4 stars because it is on the pricy side but portions are quite generous.

  • 4/5 Jenni C. 2 years ago on Google
Interesting cafe provides traditional bun as signature and western at the same time. And the Kong Bak Bao is indeed nice, expensive though. Yet for the banana french toast is so so for us. As the toast is fluffy but a bit dry without syrup or banana. The bacon was overly fried makes it hard like cracker instead of meat(somehow feels like Singaporean love this). And for the coffee, not that matching our taste. As the ice latte was too light in coffee taste. The coffee bean for the expresso is happen to have the aroma my husband don’t like😓. Other than that the whole experience is OK, environment is a bit dark and the monster paintings may scare away little children though.

Pretty popular cafe in Tiong Bahru. It was my first visit and even though I was there from 2+ on a Saturday, customers were constantly streaming in for both dining in and takeaways. Had the big boy breakfast, warm veggie salad, tau sar pau, iced bubble coffee and hot flat white. Everything was great and I would definitely come back to try more of their menu. However, I would probably change the flat bread to something else as I wasn't really used to the texture of it and felt that it didn't really go well with the other ingredients.

Embracing the era of phone ordering, on other hand I really miss the good old days of being taken care by sincere servers. I will always give 5 stars to cafes who does not screw up their coffee, so 40 hands definitely deserve it. Had a wonderful brunch, a standard affair, really like the chic look of the place. Parking is free nearby on the weekends.

Plenty of parking around the place. Has reasonable amount of seats and staffs are very friendly and quick service. No booking or token. Just have to wait and they call you inside when table empty. Quiet noisy environment inside form the beverage counter. Portion of the food is big especially the Chicken Panini. Cheese burger was tasty. But the Egg Brnedict was not good. Bubble coffee was different and nice. Overall 4 stars.

Came here on CNY day 2. Cafe was crowded. Tried their famous tau sa pau with a cup of cafe latte. Cafe latte is ok but on the more pricey side. Tau sa pau is nice and not too sweet but I was unable to tell the unique differentiating factor. Service staff is friendly. The place is too crowded for my liking.

Excellent coffee. Back to the standards before the circuit breaker. The default for both regular and large size cups of whites is a double shot. They regularly rotate their beans, which are roasted by Common Man Coffee Roasters. For this latest visit , there was a choice of the CMCR Espresso blend and the Colombia Gaitania single origin. This latest regular size cup of white, made with the Colombia Gaitania and Meiji milk, had a rounded, citrus, prune flavour and a chocolate aftertaste.

  • 2/5 Lionel S. 3 years ago on Google
2/5 for Coffee, 5/5 for Service Concur with another review that the coffee was unusually acidic (sour), at least to my tastebuds. Either it is under-extracted or (as the staff tried to explain) they were using more floral (higher acidity) beans. Service staff was kind enough to change my latte to another type of beans. Still v sour. Regular coffee drinker, but could not bring myself to finish either cup. Had been to Fortyhands before.

Food was great! The eggs benedict with steak ($22) was excellent and it came with a side of spicy potatoes, which were so good. The french toast ($18) was delicious as well, although the bacon was a tad hard. Not a fan of the seating arrangement downstairs though; due to social distancing measures, there were chairs on only one side of the table, and we were directly facing the occupants of the table across us, which was awkward. I guess you could request to be seated outside if you want more privacy.

Ambiance and food is great, however the coffee was weird. I drink a lot of coffee and from common roasters too, but the honey coffee I bought was plain sour. Asked a lady if it was under brewed she mentioned it is suppose to be bitter, few questions later she mentioned it is suppose to be sour. So I’m not sure what’s going on. Nonetheless good portion was big and worth the visit

Cubano with sourdough doesn't work, it takes away the compressed denseness of the Cubano and all the flavors are spread out. The brownies are also more like cakes, bit too airy, not dense enough.

Never fail to impress. Lovely place in a quiet corner of Singapore. Because the place isn't really that big, sitting can feel tight. There are definitely some rude customers that cut queue and pretend safe entry isn't a thing, even in Nov 2020. Overall, the decor is spot on and food is great. The truffle fries serving is great for sharing but could use with perhaps more truffle oil. I think I've returned to this place multiple times already. Really great cafe to be in.

(Translated by Google) The latte is so delicious. Sometimes these private cafes are expensive and the amount of coffee is small, but the amount was okay. Soft latte style. The atmosphere is good and the coffee is delicious, but after all, it is too narrow here, so it is not an atmosphere to drink leisurely. I think brunch is also famous.

Typical cosy/cramp brunch cafe. Was seated in the lower basement area where there was exposed piping right next to me with random noises. It was just a little unsettling when I realised the bathroom was so close. Food tasted average and was pretty overpriced -- no wow factor for me. I personally ordered the Eggs Cocotte as I was keen for some truffle but there wasn't even much of a hint of it in the dish.. Long black was terribly acidic so I'd advise against it -- could use a lot more calibration. Flat white was alright. Overall, it wasn't a pleasant experience so not a preferred option for me.

We came here to chill on a Monday for the morning and spend our day in the heritage part of Singapore checking out the area. And decided to start having breakfast here.
