Didn't go inside since I was on Jubilee Walk tour. It seems like a huge museum covering from Raffles statue till in front of Anderson bridge. Now, it is featuring Batik Kita gallery here. I supposed same as all other museum, it is free entry for Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident. I will come next time to visit here.

Wonderful museum to take in regional and local culture and history. Loved the lesson in local religion that I wasn’t familiar with, and the shipwreck and maritime sections were great. You need about 2.5 hours to see it comfortably. Highly recommend!

I was there in the evening, when some areas were restricted due to an event. In general, the atmosphere of classical building and bridges, generated peaceful feeling. Tourist like me enjoy the atmosphere, indeed.

First time visiting after all these years and was surprised to see a decent collection of south asian artifacts. Clean and well organised a nice way to spend a weekend afternoon

The museum's collection was remarkably impressive. It showcased a great ceramic collection from maritime shipwrecks dating back to the 830s, which were discovered in a beautiful and perfectly preserved state. It was fascinating to learn about how Chinese ceramics influenced the rest of the world. I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed such a remarkable pottery collection. The Andrew GN exhibition was also truly fantastic. Not only could you admire the finished dresses, but you could also witness the work-in-progress stages leading up to the finalization of a dress.

One of the best museums in the region with variety of collections of cultural objects and significance of history of Asian art and culture. A must see visiting the city. Perched on the bank of Singapore river, the location is close to Raffles Place and City Hall makes it easy to walk around for tourists.

"Experience dynamic and diverse Asia",.Asian countries had a very diverse culture. This museum collection is full great history. There are many artifacts left that tell about how Asian civilization lived. Also, I learn we have enter a time of transition from a material civilization to a spiritual civilization. It gave us democracy and logic. well worth visiting.

A great way to spend a couple of hours pondering the history of certain regions in Asia. Not a large museum, but houses some really impressive relics.

Visited the museum for the special exhibition (Manila Galleon) and there was an interactive activity for children (via the use of QR codes and a website) to keep them busy while adults can spend some time viewing and learning about the artifacts on display. There are small souvenirs for children who completes a certain number of the stations, which can nudge kids to be more proactive.

Newly renovated museum and certain gallery is free for local. Nice place with a lot of artifacts for kids to learn as well. One can see a lot of items salvaged from the ocean. The porcelain plates are nicely displayed to attract visitors. The building itself is a pre-war building and you can take nice pictures of the building.

Quite a small museum compared to the others. Most interesting gallery is the Tang dynasty shipwreck stuff. Most galleries showcase stuff pertaining to China and India. Very little about south-east Asia. Three levels with different galleries and need about three hours. Singaporeans should visit as it is free and learn about Asia trade history. Not sure about the publicity given to Andrew Gn. Not sure if he is so proud to be a singaporean as he is based on Paris most of the time. In any case, can’t see the link with him and a museum. Limited food choice and they are rather expensive. Also the souvenir shop was kind of rip-off.

Loved the experience at "The Asian Civilization Museum", which is under the National Heritage Board of Singapore. The approach via can was not direct as I was dropped off about 100m away from the main entrance, but it was a good walk after a long cab ride! I booked my ticket through "Tiquet" app and got S$2 discount on each ticket at S$6! The outside was maintained well and place was tidy and clean. The ticket redemption counter was fairly easy to navigate and the staff were pleasant and helpful. There were 3 levels and each level was filled with different aspects of cultural artefacts and ancient items from different centuries. "The Tang Shipwreck" was a standout for me and loved how the entire area was set up, so KUDOS to the Curators!! It was a long walk across all 3 levels, so do bring comfortable shoes. We were able to cover all three levels and was impressed with everything I saw. I wonder what is the significance of the "Directors Pick" was - noticed several items with a red banner against a number of the artefacts.

The trip to the Asian Civilisation Museum was really cool. There are several exhibits that are truly amazing. There is so much history you can see and learn about, which is quite special. It was interesting to learn about Singapore’s history as well. The building is historic and the government has really done an amazing job in renovating it.

Excellent experience! Well detailed exhibits. Its a good museum to explore why and how Singapore is what it is today. If you happen to go here, kindly spend extra time in the Tang Shipwreck, the Museum has all the remains of the shipwreck, hence all the details are there!

Excellent, extensive, comprehensive, and very informative. This is a superbly created museum with extremely good written explanations as to why the exhibit is included, how it is different across Asia, and what its significance is. Would recommend this is on any visitors list to do when they visit.

Visited the Asian Civilisations Museum this afternoon. The Museum is spread out over 3 level. Each level has its own theme. This Museum was first open back in 1997 and have been in this current premises since 2007. Trade and Maritime Silk Routes. This gallery tells the story of trade, one of the focus was on the Tang shipwreck. Ceramic, gold and silver were on displayed that were recover from the shipwreck. Faith and Belief, my favorite gallery among all. This gallery tells the story on religion. Lots of religion related artefacts on display. Materials and Design, is more on the decorative arts. On display are costumes from the early years and its development. Worth visiting, would take at least a few hours to cover the entire 3 stories. Lockers are provided on the first level for patron to store their items.

Visited the Asian Civilisations Museum on a weekday afternoon. There are many free exhibits at the permanent galleries for citizens and some periodical paid exhibits at different times of the year. Enjoyed seeing numerous artefacts which predates to centuries ago. Enjoyed the Tang Shipwreck gallery!

Enriching place to spend half a day in. Singaporean simply needs to scan our NRIC to enter. And children have a booklet to complete, I find it quite engaging for young children. Otherwise a museum journey will be too heavy for children. There were sea wreckage, fashion, historical religions, jewellery and a Kyoto photo exhibition was really nice. Overall great time spent and we did Pokémon GO breaks along the way for the children too.

Easily one of my favourite museums in Singapore! The artefacts are amazing and really appreciate the director’s explanation through the QR code scanned at certain exhibits. If you go now, there is an exhibit on Batik - really beautiful batik on display and even an interactive exhibit to learn about how batik is made!

I spent 3 hours inside, have two restaurants available inside with 10% discounts on the ticket. Suggest to get the ticket in advance, but you can get it at the main entrance as well. I love how they display information about different religions on the second floor; I feel like there is a lot of background history. The special exhibition about fashion is fantastic; they got a bracelet for you to interact around the showroom to collect different patterns and an AR game for you to try on fashion you design with printed and email pictures available.

A really great place to learn about the history and the rich culture of Singapore. I also really loved witnessing younger children being taught by their teachers inside the Museum. I loved seeing the academic researchers inside the building and seeing them further study the pieces for their research. (I hope they all finish their schooling and contribute their expertise in the society.) I loved all the collections inside it and appreciated all the care that was put into it and making sure everything is well preserved and cared for. Even though some of the collections were not open for seeing due to renovations taking place overall it was a great experience and I felt really lucky and blessed to witness all of it.

The Asian Civilisations Museum, located in the heart of Singapore, is a cultural gem that unveils the rich diversity of Asian heritage. Spanning diverse civilizations, the museum showcases a captivating array of artifacts, artworks, and stories that narrate the history, traditions, and cultural splendors of Asia. From ancient civilizations to contemporary expressions, the museum offers a journey through time, providing visitors with a profound understanding of the interconnectedness and diversity of Asian cultures. I truly recommend the special exhibition Manila Galleon, from Asia to Americas (18 Nov 2023 - 17 Mar 2024) that showcases works of art from the trade that connected Asia to the Americas during four centuries. Adult entrance tickets fee is 25SG$ and 20SG$ for children and students. Free for Singaporeans citizens.

I enjoyed my time visiting this museum. It has amazing collections!! I love the ancient and religions section the most, the room was dim but with great spotlight it showcases the collection so well I love taking a moment to stare at the collections. I also love the jewelry section, some of it is interactive where I can take a look closely about the jewelry in detail. They give you a map and recommend the section you can visit in row.

Must visit with kids! We were given a nice booklet at the entrance and went on a treasure hunt, which made the visit interesting for our 6 y.o. we especially loved how the jewelry is displayed on photos, helping figure out how it was worn. Will come back to re-do the Russel Wong exhibition. Would love to come back with a guide to learn more.

Excellent exhibition in the museum. Well preserved items. The exhibition galleries walkway abit confusing. But there are friendly staffs will help you out. Level 2 with Asian Religious exhibition is very interesting, could seen the items up close. I did learn quite a few things from there, from Buddhism, Christian, Islam and Hinduism. The ship wreck is very interesting exhibition too. I love their jewellery exhibition too. It not only display the items but shown how its worn on a person. Which we sometimes have no idea how it looks like.

One of the four museums of Singapore. A good collection that focuses on SE Asia religions, and culture, with a section devoted to maritime history. Nice spaces for special exhibitions. The architecture is well preserved classic style and the building has a couple of floors but isn't as large as the National Gallery next door.

Learning different culture and different religion. The display of each religion very well exhibited with explained writings. Free for sgrean/pr and $20 for adult ticket. But $20 is of such worth. Only worry is u might not have enough time to finish all exhibit. It close at 7pm sharp.

Went for the Batik Kita exhibition. The exhibits were beautiful. However, the labelling of the description panels could be better as my friend and I were often confused about which item the description was for. Also, the text often made references to certain motifs - but it would have been more informative if there was a picture so viewers know exactly what is being talked about. It felt like there was a lot of jargon and technical terms but no explanation of what the terms meant. (The description panels in the permanent exhibitions were much clearer.) The interactive activity in the foyer was very fun and much more informational! We got to paint a batik piece for National Day and create our own batik pattern using stamps. There were panels describing and explaining the motifs (which should really have been part of the main exhibition).

A must visit place for history enthusiasts. A quiet place within bustling roads. Need a ticket to enter. Invaluable collection of artifacts from different Chinese dynasties, other south asian, and East Asian countries are placed in different locations around the museum. Loved the porcelain collection recovered from a sunken ship. A great place to soothe your mind. I felt very peaceful. Photos are from 2019

Great collection, particularly the shipwreck on the main floor and the jewelry on the top. On the more expensive end at $25 a ticket but a great slice of history of that side of the world. A timeline like at the Fort Canning Heritage museum (but more detailed) would be a great addition as it can be hard to keep all the empires straight. I also left wondering if the ancient Russian part of the world didn't deserve a mention.

Fantastic museum. In depth history of each region/country in Asia and how they have changed over time. The migration of religion over the content is great to learn about. We were very lucky and arrived as a guided tour for body & spirit exhibition started, I think these run every hour. Geraldine was so Informative and answered all of the groups questions. The mindfulness lab is good fun and we even tried a sonic immersion meditation!

This is an excellent Museum with world class relics and archeological treasures from all over the world. From time to time their exhibits change and new items are featured. This museum is not restricted to only history and archeology. Art 🖼️, Culture, music 🎼, fashion, local Asian customs, articles on daily life activities are also featured here. The Museum guides are all volunteers and they are all highly qualified individuals who have retired from senior positions in government, leadership, big corporations, multinational companies and entrepreneurial businesses. Many are former academic professors, highly educated professionals with deep knowledge of history, art 🖼️ architecture, archeology, sciences and other disciplines. Please make sure you sign up for one of the free guided tours which are all free of charge. This museum also offer free talks and seminars in their big auditorium in the basement. Check out their websites and all you have to do is to register for a seat online and you may attend for free. We recommend this museum for all tourists.

A good place to spend a couple of hours. This museum has a bit of everything relating to South East Asia. I do find ACM lacks a centre focus. It has many artifacts related to South East Asia but not Singapore centric. I hope ACM can curate more alternatively 19th century Singapore history. For example, "Secret Societies in 19th century Singapore".

Beautiful exhibits covering ancient and antique Asian art, currently there is a special exhibition on the 400 year old maritime trade route connecting all the way from the Philippines to Mexico. It takes about 2-3 hours to enjoy all the galleries and there is a lovely cafe called Privé where you can have coffee and cake. Have only been to Empress the restaurant and bar for a corporate function so it can obviously be hired out for an event after museum hours as well

It is a good place to hop in for a visit to check out some interesting artefacts houses there, while taking some shade from Singapore’s sweltering weather. There are both permanent and changing exhibitions, so be sure to keep a look out for what is in season. Fees are usually charged for admissions into temporary exhibitions. All in all, it is worth visiting when in the city :)

The Asian Civilizations Museum is meant to showcase the rich art and culture of not only Singapore, but also the SE Asian region. The building itself is lovely and has a strong presence, even though tranquil. The Khoo Teck Puat Gallery is an exhibit for the cargo recovered from the Tang Shipwreck, a sunken 9th century trading ship and gives an excellent overview of porcelain and other ceramics. Upstairs galleries house religious statues and idols of worship. This place is easily accessible from Raffles Place and City Hall MRT Stations. The permanent galleries are free for citizens and permanent residents. I would recommend a minimum of two hours here! A cafe and toilet facilities can be found here.

I went to the Asian Civilizations Museum in December with a friend impromptu during a rainy day, the museum was filled with great artefacts and artworks. The guide provided by the museum was great and all but I would wonder if the facts that they provide are legitimate and how true, accurate they are.

Went to the ACM recently, and man! I LOVED IT! For historical geeks, this is a must go. The Ancient Civilisation Museum has religious and racial artefacts, and covers many different time periods. The exhibitions that they have now are very very VERY intriguing. The fact that this is free for both SGeans and PRs is unbelievable. The place is very quiet on weekdays, so it’s ideal for a simple date with your s/o or even one of your friends. I learnt so much from my 3-4 hours there. And the ambience is just amazing. If you need to take a break from everything, this is the place. No one will disturb you. Just you and these artefacts stuck in time.

Excellent place to learn about different religion and cultures. The exhibits are free for all, except certain portions that are free for locals/prs only. I came to see the Russel Wong @ Kyoto exhibit that is available till apr-2022. Very interesting exhibit about the scenes of Kyoto and also the life of geikos in Kyoto and to learn how they live. Recommended if you have a few hours to just walk around, you will definitely learn something

If you are a history buff and antique and pottery enthusiast, this museum is the perfect way to spend an afternoon! It has a wonderful display of old artifacts, some dating as far back at 2 BC, and the notes were very detailed, I especially enjoyed the section with the chinese and japanese ceramics heavily influenced or even infused with Western or middle eastern aesthetics, truly fascinating content, and humbling to see how these craftsmen would draw inspiration from different cultures! The museum is free entry for PR and Singapore citizens, it has three floors and a special batik exhibit at the moment. However, I only explored the first floor and a small section of the second floor where the religious statues and artifacts were placed before it was closing time, who knew 3.5 hours wouldn't be enough time to soak in all the history?

  • 5/5 Helen C. 1 year ago on Google
Beautifully curated artifacts. Very interesting. There is now a special batik exhibition. Highly recommended.

a real journey. great fabrics and clothing. exquisite exhibition design.. the floor plan/layout was easy to navigate with plenty of information in malay and english. the space between the individual displays allowed the viewer to really see each individual dress/shirt/sarong etc. in detail. the lighting design was world class. the whole exhibition was professional, from start to finish..

It's free enterance for citizen and PR. A very wonderful museum. I came without prior plan, just random visit while having a walk along clark quey. The museum was unexpectedly big and very exquisite. You can find so many artefacts and beautiful collection from some asian countries such as Indonesia, japan, china, etc. There're also unique collection of chinese christian. Overall, for a free visit, it's really worth the time. It took around 2 hours for me to see all 3 floors, but it may took more time if you want to read the information throughly.

Not a huge museum but the exhibits are plenty! Will probably take few days to go through everything. The special exhibition of Andrew gn is interesting with interactive activities. We had a great time!

  • 4/5 Samantha S. 1 year ago on Google
Fantastic layout of the museum , level 2 is my favourite level, just indulging myself with the displays . *It’ll be good that security guards can help manage as some visitors tend to speak on the top of their lungs , kinda disturbing the peace atmosphere, otherwise is just ace 🤙

I greatly enjoyed my visit. I admittedly came in with low expectations as Asian history is a lesser interest than mine versus European history but I was so impressed by the extent of English information on the placards everywhere and the extensive artifacts I could have stayed longer than the 1.5 hours I was there. Plus museum Wifi and free phone chargers at the front. Highly recommend.

The exhibit I have planned to visit ACM, Singapore, was to view Tang shipwreck ceramics. The visual experience that the museum has arranged for visitors is impressive and unforgettable, from pleasant to even entertaining. I thought I would be out of the museum in an hour, well before a planned lunch, but that was a mistake. A good one, though. This museum, although named "Asian," but it has more exhibitions and collections covered beyond my imagination of Asian. Even though I have missed my lunch with friends, I wouldn't be able to finish viewing all exhibits by the end of the afternoon. I have to come back again.

This might be my favourite museum in Asia! Wow - what a collection and incredibly displayed. A beautiful cross section of artefacts and antiques arranged in an engaging manner and split across several levels. It took about three hours to get through after inspecting all displays and reading the information for every exhibition

  • 5/5 Venny J. 8 months ago on Google
It may looks like a small museum, but after you’re inside, you know it’s huge. Prepare 2-3 hours to fully explore this museum. Very interesting place, displaying antiques from various culture that linked to Singapore. Would love to visit there again, as I haven’t fully finished the whole exhibition, and i love the experience given here.

The tour guide, Ms Lee is great with young children. My K2 children were transported to 1000 years of history of where all the artifacts come from and how they were made. She made it interesting through her story of dragons and other creatures. Thanks Ms Lee!
