As an educator stepping into the house so filled with heritage & culture, it is just so amazing! Hearing the stories of how it came about is totally mind-blowing. I enjoyed listening to Alvin’s story of how he decided to collect the different Peranakan artefacts; to remind him of his heritage. It started as his personal collection to now sharing it with a larger audience. Definitely worth the visit.

Really enjoyed our visit, the owner shared a lot of culture and values for the Peranakan heritage. Great learning for all of us. I did pay attention on my way back on Singapore airlines, this museum is where they shot the safty video at. 😄 Strongly recommend.

Closed yet according to Google it is open Monday morning at 11:30. Seems it is only by appointment, so no walk in. Very nice part of Singapore though to stroll around and have lunch ;) SGD 60 per Visitor.

A great stop; well worth leaving the more congested tourist parts of the city. Learn not just about Peranakan Culture, but gain a better understanding of Singapore and the relationship between it's different groups. Highly recommended.

I would avoid this. The collection is small. However, to be fair, there are some nice items and overall could have been fun but the guide seems to be in a rush to end the tour (likely have another appointment to go to). Would likely qualify for three or four stars if the whole tour can be conducted properly. The Peranakan museum which is currently under renovation might be a better alternative.

We visited this beautiful, small museum in Singapore. It's filled with many Peranakan artefacts such as 100s of handmade, beaded shoes, kebayas, exquisite, batik sarongs, painted tiffins, mother of pearl inlaid furniture, carved, latticed, wooden doors, handmade tiles, Chinese porcelains, and more. The owner of this private museum is a Peranakan person, full of stories and fascinating information. Thankyou for a wonderful experience.

(Translated by Google) It's not a shophouse where many Peranakans lived, but an ordinary private house. The antiques collected by the owner are lined up in a narrow space. It's a spectacular personal collection, but I thought $ 60 was a bit expensive for a lecture on sweets, tea and Peranakans. By the way, you can buy Nyonya sweets at Rumah Bebe Pte Ltd and Kim Choo Kueh Chang on the East Coast Road. Peranakans Museum and Baba House are recommended. The Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum in Malacca also has a very nice building and interior decoration. The owner is bright and interesting, though.

I am now outside but it is closed 😟 Ps. Thanks for the reply from the owner. Noted the need to call. Sorry. However on further reading of the comments in the Google map, interesting to note we were not the first visitor unaware of the need to call beforehand! May be the opening hours in the basic Google map description should be clearly stated?

It was one of the best experience museum visit I have had. Alvin was such a hospitable host and he gave us interesting and valuable nuggets of information on the Peranakan culture. The stories were funny, informative, intriguing and Alan has a knack for story telling. The artefacts and antiques in the museum were fascinating and really brought me to old Singapore. The whole experience ended with tea session and Peranakan kueh around his living room and it was intimate, cosy & comfortable. I would like to give a personal thanks to Alvin for making the outing for my department so memorable and they cannot stop talking about it. Thank you Alvin for being such a gracious host!

I'm so glad we finally made a trip to The Intan! Alvin made us feel at home and shared alot of fun facts about the culture which I wouldn't necessarily have paid attention to. Alvin also performed a nice romantic song on the piano as it was our anniversary. Totally recommend this experience to both locals and tourists! :)

An amazing experience. It was truly fascinating learning all about the Peranakan origin. The work Alvin has done collecting all relics, along with the wonderful explanation he provides, enabled my family and I to immerse ourselves into a whole different culture. I absolutely recommend it!

This is one of a kind experience. Being invited to a personal museum where it is occupied as a living space, is indeed unique. From the street, to the architecture and The Intan’s peranakan collection, this trip is 100% worthwhile. If you are into stories from the romantic past of the Straits history, this is for you. A knowledgeable host, a quiet atmosphere and lots of Knick knacks to enjoy.

Got the best experience while being here. The Intan peranakan is known as the smallest museum in Singapore, eatablished by a young man who originally wanted to understand his ancestral history. We were welcomed in such a friendly manner, Alvin Yapp the owner was such a great storyteller. I love the way he tells us about his origin and the Peranakan culture. It was an immersive and memorable experience. They also provide us with snacks and food which are seems relatable, because we had it too in Indonesia but strangely it feels quite different. We do share similar DNA but got enriched as he told us the story. For experience, I really recommend you to visit The Intan 👌🏻

It was a dream come true to visit The Intan. Mr Alvin Yap, the man behind the museum, is gem of a person. He explained everything so beautifully to us. What an enriching experience it was. So much of culture, heritage, and history under one roof.

We had a lovely tour with Alvin. He provided a fascinating history of how the collection came about. You can tell he really cares about the items and the stories they bring. He made us feel at home right away, providing us with tea and kueh. The collection was very extensive and well decorated throughout the home. Highly recommend when you're up for some authentic, unique tours in Singapore! We'll definitely bring all our friends when they visit :)

A lovely museum, and the multi-hyphenated museum curator, Peranakan owner bring this place alive. The haven of collectables is alive with his explanation into the history, culture and lifestyle of the Peranakan. Highly recommended for those who are keen to know more about Alvin, his story and traditions of the Peranakan.

(All photos without filter, it’s that colourful) In the past I only knew Peranakan as Nyonya cuisine and colourful/ floral patterns. After visiting this house, through various types of collections (especially the well-made slippers upstairs) and explanation on how they were used and where they were arranged in a house, I feel like I have a fundamental and memorable understanding of peranakan people and their culture. Singapore does not have that many historical/ cultural spots so this is definitely recommended! Instagrammable too 😉

An interesting experience that I would definitely recommend, despite the price being a bit on the steeper end. The house and artifacts are nice but the main attraction is Alvin. Alvin is very charismatic and you can tell he's a great businessman. A girl from my group asked a ton of questions and he was gracious enough to let the tour go on for over an hour and a half despite the official 45m limit, so he does go above and beyond in order to make his customers happy Feedback: for the price, maybe offer more than one kind of snack, or snacks that are significant to peranakan culture

We had a lot of fun learning about the Paranakan history and culture at the Intan. Alvin is a fantastic host. He is friendly and inviting, and treats everyone like friends. He clearly is very passionate about the Paranakan culture, and it shows. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

The owner's passion and familiarity with Peranakan culture are absolutely admirable. The relics and heirlooms are magnificent, and the guided tour was both interesting and educational. It's a special and personal cultural encounter that shouldn't be passed up.

A spur of the moment booking, which was amazing. Alvin - the resident and host of the museum, brings this place alive. It is a beautiful collection of his own culture and past. Loved my visit.

Loved the guided tour of Alvin in his cozy house filled with peranakan paraphernalia.

Amazing collection! Lovely home that is a museum of a personal collection of Alvin. He is a true blue Peranakan who has a soft side of social enterprise. Went with my dad using the SRV vouchers and learnt so much from his explanations and my many questions. Also met 2 other guests who were Peranakans which is cool. Even their toilet is Peranakan style hahaha. Their gift mementos go to supporting good causes as well. Visit The Social Kitchen at YMCA and The Bird Park too! Their food is yummy. Asking my other friends to visit The Intan too if they don't know where to visit since we can't travel anyway.

Our group of 14 entered by appointment, welcomed by Alvin, and ready to learn about the Peranakan culture. He is charming, engaging, and authentic in showing us about his personal museum/home. It is no wonder he received official accolades for his collection and display. As he presented insights into the history and culture, we enjoyed tea and Peranakan snacks. To the person, we enjoyed our time there...a truly unique and enjoyable event.

  • 5/5 Beth W. 1 year ago on Google
Alvin was a passionate and accommodating host. His knowledge and dedication to Peranakan culture is admirable and made for a highly enjoyable, yet educational tour of the Intan. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome in his home, even when we showed up 20 minutes late (sorry again Alvin), with freshly baked, and not to mention, delectable pineapple tarts, and hot tea. The Intan’s extensive collection of Peranakan antiques, hand beaded shoes, dishes and more is simply beautiful, but was made all the better by its host. Thank-you once again for an amazing visit to the Intan.

Alvin was passionate about the Peranakan culture and proud of The Intan. He was very welcoming, shared his knowledge about his culture and no questions were too much! He has so many interesting artefacts on display! You definitely can learn about the Peranakan culture in another museum but you won't feel the warmth of someone like Alvin!

  • 1/5 Ting S. 1 year ago on Google
I will not recommend paying that much for visiting this place. SGD 60 is definitely too expensive for this two-storey "museum", there is no story, no proper guiding. The owner just displayed everything and then let yourself have a look, I didn't really learn anything or get any memory, it even didn't take 45 mins.

  • 5/5 Evelyn G. 2 years ago on Google
I went to The Intan via virtual tour. The museum is amazing. Every "mangkuk tingkat" / tiffin is spotless (Indonesians call these "rantang"). The owner/museum curator, Mr. Alvin Mark Yapp is amazing. His energy in explaining his culture is welcoming. If you can be there live in person, do so. If not, join his virtual tour.

  • 5/5 Aram P. 3 months ago on Google • 1 review New
What a fantastic museum! There is so much heritage and history in this collection, Alvin has a passion for his work and clearly wishes to show the history and culture of his people to the world, and I would say he succeeds. Furthermore, I would say get the dinner reservation addition, as Alvin is a great cook as well as a excellent conversationalist who was able to answer all of our questions about Singapore. An awesome experience I would recommend to anyone interested in Singapore and its local history.
