Tan Teng Niah's colorful villa is absolutely beautiful, especially at dawn when the sun rays tickle the house. The neighborhood is very lively with many restaurants around. It's worth the detour even if the tour is quick. Fabulous !

Bright place for photo ops! Near the MRT station. Place can get a little bit crowded and a little messy although other areas nearby are generally clean. Take a few more steps along the next blocks with beautiful wall murals!

A small, quaint building with beautifully arranged colors. The street corners around Tan Teng Niah are not very clean, and sometimes filled with trash when the garbage trucks are late. As with any popular tourist-y place, go early to avoid the crowd and the humidity!

It’s a great vibe in the area with all the street art and a unique building with some exquisite detail to take in. Worth a walk through but perhaps not a purposeful journey.

Very crowded and full of outdoor dining spaces. People sitting on the ground around the building having food. Won’t recommend visiting this place

Foto Hotspot, during the week not so many people are waiting for the foto queue, but overall there is a market next to it so it's quite encapsulated. Nice Chinese traditional house in the heart of little India.

Having spent my whole life in Tekka, it had never occurred to me to visit Mr Tan Teng Niah's House until around 2020. I only took a short look around and was not keen on sticking around, considering the surroundings. This year, I am exploring Singapore and its rich heritage, so I went back to properly visit the house after researching its past. It is a great shame what has happened to it. As can be seen, the house is richly decorated with murals, chinese characters inscribed upon doors, windows and walls, with even the mundane staircase being nicely decorated. It is a testament to the wealth and taste of Mr Tan. You might realise that the address given for the house doesn't seem correct. The address of the house reflects the middle section of Kerbau Rd, which was pedestrianised in the 1990s as part of multiple road realignments, erasures, and enlargements in the area. Unfortunately, visitors cannot enter the house and it is not in its original condition. The furniture and other items seen in old photos of the interior have disappeared, presumably to keep them from harm's way. An eatery blocks both this house and the neighboring house, preventing quite a few good angles for photography. The house was used by various indian businesses as office space for years, which is quite a poor use for such a nice house. It is also surrounded by various smelly and dirty vegetables/grocery shops that improperly dispose of their trash and attract vermin, along with the eateries and their equally bad trash disposal policies. I feel it is a disgrace to the legacy of Mr Tan and the splendor of his home to have it surrounded by such squalor. Old photos show that Kerbau and Buffalo Rd were not like this before the 1990s. I doubt Mr Tan would have made his home here if he opened his front door to see a crowded eatery right outside with litter and vermin, or numerous grocery shops with trash piled high in and out of large bins along with vermin when he opened his rear door. For visitors, I do recommend visiting Mr Tan 's House to get a glimpse of Tekka's past prior to the 1990s. The house represents an era, which, based on old photos is starkly different from today. Do visit PictureSG and search for old photos to see the old Tekka and what this house used to be like.

I would say this place is interesting. It doesn't offer magical or amazing attraction, but the very colorful old Chinese house in the middle of India district in Singapore is really unique. The residence of Tan Teng Niah will give tourists happy vibes. We can take photos here and continue sight seeing Little India area or eat some Indian food which located next to the residence. The best time to come here is at morning until before afternoon.

Old building, supposedly going through a renovation and currently had a very lively colour in the outside. The whole place is now used as a store so it's quite hard if you're planning on snapping a beautiful picture. on the subject of little India, I believe the whole little India historical trail needed a better revamped.

Colorful house in a corner of little India. Never really thought about coming here to visit this place even though I used to work nearby. But seeing how tourists made an effort to head down how can I as a Singaporean not try right. The building might be small but you can easily spot it as everyone tried to get a snapshot here.

This will be the 3rd time I am taking Singapore Flyer. But the view still takes my breath away. Seriously speaking, if you are visiting Singapore, please2x make sure you take this ride as well. The highest point at 165m, you get to see our city area and residential areas. It is a breathtaking 30minute ride. I would recommend that you take it in the day first as the view is awesome but if u only have a choice of the evening ride, it is more romantic - u can see our city simply lights up! I share with you photos I had taken.

One of the best places in Singapore. Worth visiting. The skyline looks amazing. It is a giant wheel and moves very slowly. It doesn't come to a stop, so you have to get in and out while it is moving. I am afraid of heights but had an amazing time at Singapore Flyer. No dizzying whatsoever. Feels absolutely safe in there. The individual pods are big with amazing view. Tips: Do not buy the ticket online. Its a rain or shine event. Go there and check the weather. Two things can spoil the experience - heavy rain and haze. Then buy the ticket from the counter. Go in evening close to night time and if you are lucky you will have both views i.e. of daylight and night lights. Both look fabulous.

I visited the Singapore Flyer during the pandemic and felt very safe! All distancing rules were strictly followed and each carriage had a maximum of 4-6 people. The entire rotation is 30 mins with stops along the way for you to take in the views. And boy, are the views breathtaking! Even with being a novice photographer I managed to get some good shots of the city. Definitely would recommend a visit if you’re in Singapore!!! P.S. They also have an in-cabin dining option to celebrate your special occasions

While Tan Teng Nah's architecture is visually appealing, I found the experience a bit dull. The aesthetics are noteworthy, but the overall engagement could be improved for a more captivating visit. Great for a quick look, but not as exciting as expected.

Delayed review. Came here around 7:55am on a Saturday. There were already a few people & tourists taking photos. Was passing by so made a quick check out of this place. The locals normally will not show up here unless accompanying their curious guests. Overall good to know some history of this building.

Visited in March before the lockdown. This house used to belong to Tan Teng Niah, a Chinese businessman who lived in what is now the Little India neighbourhood. While some of the architecture of the building retains Chinese elements, the restoration has given the building a very colourful scheme, which looks more South Indian than Chinese. It’s a very photogenic building, nevertheless.

A pretty house making a great backdrop for Instagram pics. The house is old but the take away is less about what's in the house or it's individual history but the care that the Singapore government takes around preservation. Come here, take a few snaps and you're done although it's best combined by a bit of exploration of that part of Little India especially around the weekend when you get to see cool murals and the bustling activity that is the mark of Little India.

I dont know what place it is, but it's located near The Little India. You can walk from the MRT Station and also by bus. Near this place, there is a food court and store that served many kind of indian food with strong curry and spices. Theres also many instagramable spot that you can take a lot of photo with colorful background and unique shape of house.

The attraction is excellent esp. the newly added Time Capsule. Kids would love it. Staff is helpful and served with courtesy. Problem is traffic management. You can book the day you want to visit but not timeslot. So on a busy day the queue can be ridiculously long (90 min at least) and almost nobody observing distancing. Also saw groups of 10 and above and they were not being cautioned for flouting restrictions.

The Singapore Flyer is really a worth while attraction to visit, either when staying in Singapore or visiting the city for holidays. We were stunned by the great views no question specifically when you manage to get a day with great weather but we were also super happy with the pleasant customer service when entering the building and later the wheel itself. Great please to take the kids to as well. Don't forget that it takes a while for the wheel to make one turn so please bring the little once to the bathroom first 🙂

Crowd control should be better in pandemic times.Do not attempt to go there on a rainy day. And access from parking to flyer is horrendous.Elderly will need to dash across the road. Please drop the elderly if you have the at drop off point before parking.Due covid restrictions, only 1 entrance and is quite a distance from the parking. Booking experience at Trip.com is great but the experience at Flyer is seriously bad. Understand that due to Covid they need to limit the entrance but they did not consider families with elderly folks or young children Tip for those that are driving to alight your family members at the drop off first esp those with elderly folks that are unable to walk far before parking your car at the carpark if not the elderly will need to dash across the road to get to the flyer from the carpark. Due to bad weather, the Flyer is suspended when we reach. They should inform us earlier at the safe entry temperature checking counter that we can come back another day with the ticket but instead, the staff told us to wait till further notice and after a long wait in the queue then we went to check if we can be refunded but they say we can't but we can come back another day. I think this could be managed better and inform us in advance when we were at the entrance that we could come back another day with the ticket. Finally after 2 hours we were allowed to be boarded, According to the safety measures according to the website its 5 guests from same group but we ended with 14 ppl in the same cabin with other strangers. Overall it was a super bad experience by the service provider without considering families with elderly folks etc.

The flyer ride is OK however the entry price is too pricy for local. Even the photo shoot is so pricy at $25 a photo. The time capsule is not worth to go, just save the money for a drink.

A deserted place when I visited with the FNB either closed early or has no visitors during dinner hours. The Flyer is iconic and I am sure quite an important icon as our cityscape evolves and I hope there is a better way to differentiate it's offering!

A beautiful place to photograph especially when the sun is out the bright colors and the windows make some interesting compositions the building is getting old and some of the paint is fading but still the beauty remains.

One of a kind in Little India! Very nice for photos but wished I could go in and take at the interior of the building as well. It would have been nice to explore how old Chinese buildings look like inside.

Very close to MRT station and Tekka centre. It's a colourful house with Chinese characters and pattern in Southern East Asian architecture style. Unfortunately, unable to go into the house. Too many people sitting and standing around the house. Just took a few shots.

Is well known for kaya toast. From the outside it looks like a Chinese restaurant, even the menu does not feature the breakfast item, however it is available by asking at the counter near the entry door. Is well worth it.

Just a short walk from the Little India MRT station, I'd looked out for Kerbau Rd as listed, only to find that it's actually on Buffalo Rd - buffalo being the English of kerbau. The house is every bit as vividly colourful as you see in photos. I'm not sure if you can go inside, it didn't seem like you could when I'd visited. So, I just went around the house, took some pics, read about the place & went on my way.

Three years ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Tan Teng Niah, a magnificent ancient structure situated in Singapore's Little India neighbourhood. I am a regular traveller and a history and architectural lover, and I was blown away by the beauty and cultural relevance of this landmark. I was immediately drawn to the building's vivid colours, which have been restored to their vivid tints. The carvings and decorations' meticulous details, which were obviously influenced by a fusion of Chinese and European styles, were equally breathtaking. It was interesting to discover that a Chinese businessman built this structure in the early 1900s and lived there with his family and employees. The structure is a significant landmark in Singapore due to its distinctive architecture and historical value. It is evidence of the various cultural influences present in the nation and how they have influenced the growth of the city over time. As I walked through Tan Teng Niah, I couldn't help but feel proud of Singapore and its extensive cultural legacy. Little India's neighbourhood is worth exploring as well because of the vibrant streets lined with active stores, markets, and eateries. It is a bustling and lively area that perfectly encapsulates Singapore's cosmopolitan society. Overall, my trip to Tan Teng Niah was a special and educational one, and I heartily endorse it to anyone travelling to Singapore. As a lover of history, architecture, and diverse cultures, I found this monument to be a wonderful treasure that made a strong impression on me.

Nestled around shops and restaurant this colorful Chinese house in little India provides a glimpse of days past. You'd have to jostle with others to get a clear picture of the whole of this place so better yet drop by early. #RP

Looks nice but a little underwhelming. I wouldn't go out of my way for it. If you are visiting Little India however, which is a decent visit, then it's worth having a quick nose.

THIS VIVIDLY COLORFUL HOUSE WAS constructed in 1900 by a local businessman named Tan Teng Niah. At the time, the neighborhood was an industrial zone (Tan’s candy and rubber factories were located nearby) and many of Singapore’s ethnic-Chinese businessmen lived in similar villas. Amid Singapore’s rapid economic growth and social change during the 20th century, the neighborhood evolved into what is now known as Little India. Most of the old merchant houses were razed to make way for modern commercial buildings and sleek skyscrapers. However, the Tan Teng Niah house survived, and during the 1980s, it underwent a full restoration to what people see today. Believed to be the last such house in existence, it’s now preserved under landmark status from the National Heritage Board. Although the house’s historical background is interesting, the key to its popularity among locals and visitors is its current appearance. The exterior is painted in a rainbow riot of vivid colors, with every element—each individual slat, molding, panel, and pilaster—in a different hue than its neighbor. An array of sky blue, avocado green, traffic-cone orange, highlighter yellow, and nail-polish pink shades adorns the house. Further embellishments beyond the psychedelic color-palette include gilded Chinese calligraphy, intricate floral lunettes, and a bamboo-tiled roof. The house is now used as a commercial space, and recent tenants have included a pharmacy and a business training school. Quite the ordinary activities, within one of the most extraordinary buildings in Singapore.

Nothing great and you cannot enter inside. It is nearby the temples in Little India, so ok for a quick visit.
