The hostess asked: For water, would you like still or sparkling? I did not realise, that by saying “still” to say no to sparkling, I was agreeing to pay $7++ for water. Feels like a big scam and a rip-off. Completely destroyed the taste of the food and coffee we were here to have. Edit to respond to Lokal’s reply: Thanks for the service recovery! It was extremely distressing to fall into the “still or sparkling?” trap, and I hope none of your service staff ever connive against your customers again.

I understand why they call it the Lokal, that's the way it feels when you are there. The food is really tasty (the octopus starter is a personal favourite) and well priced. The menu changes regularly so there is always something new. Wait staff and chefs are so warm, friendly, and welcoming, it feels like you are in a small town and not a big city. Looking forward to going back.

A relatively nice and cozy spot for simple brunch food in the morning till afternoon. I like the simple selection of food available, but taste wise it was just normal. Pasta wasn’t great and the smoke salmon salad was too salty. Aussie sausage roll was the saving grace, and the cold brew was pretty decent

The service staff here are so friendly and warm. The food is above average, I’ll rate the food 4/5, the Food portion is not a lot. Pricing wise it’s a little pricey. But overall still a good experience The cappuccino and mocha I ordered was okay, the beef Ragu is good, just that portion is quite small. Truffle fries and it’s sauces is good and must order The desert we ordered is so-so only.

Food is very good, I particularly enjoyed the chicken schnitzel sandwich! The steak and crab cake were good too, my hubby enjoyed! The juice was refreshing as expected!

Service with Australian humour and cheekiness from chef Darren! Great service from another female staff! The pumpkin salad and cheeseburger were yummy, and so was the sticky date albeit a little too sweet for me. Will definitely visit again!!

An excellent place for brunch. Good to make bookings in advance before heading down. Prices are a little on the high side for cafes but the portions are quite big and suitable for sharing if you're a small eater. Ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich ($22) and it was superb! Also must try is their sticky date pudding ($10) it is not too sweet which is perfect. Shared it with 2 other girls and it was just nice.

Had a wonderful dinner with wife and daughters. Great service, great food, great experience. Truffle fries were drizzled with generous amount of truffle oil and pamasan cheese. Cauliflower 3 ways was delicious, puree, pickled and fried. MUST TRY their mussel stew. Fresh and wonderfully done. We enjoyed the desert too. Grandma Apple cake with ice cream was awesome, not too sweet and the cake has real apple slices in them. Date pudding was my daughter 's favourite, eat it with the sauce! Definitely coming back again.

Honestly, it will be great and responsible of the staff to inform customers that there will be a chargeable price to “still” water lol. $7????? And excluding GST somemore. For plain water???? I don’t think is the customer’s responsibility to go ask “oh is the water chargeable?” And not every customer will confront the issue at the store as well. So I would appreciate it if the staff is going to be transparent about it. Everyone pls take note before heading down. :)

Made a reservation through chope! The food was alright, I recommend the “Pimp My Breakfast” because you get to choose from quite a large variety of options. What really made a difference was the service! Love love love the warmth and friendliness of all the staff.

Came here for late lunch. Enjoyed the hearty chicken schnitzel sandwich. My bf enjoyed his baked eggs. Food portions are decent. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived (on time). The waitress sat us at another bigger table to wait instead of asking us to wait outside (it was so hot that day). 👍 Date of visit: 8 May 2021

We were there for afternoon desserts and wow.... Were we amazed.. Ambience and space is good. Staff were awesome. Courteous and friendly, it has been a while since we stepped into a place that we felt so comfortable. Tiramisu and sticky date pudding blew our minds.. Quantity and quality... Excellent!!! Tiramisu is as good as or even better than some we had in Italy... Perhaps a close fight with the one we had in cinque terre. Sticky date was moist and tasty. Lemonade was citrousy and not too sour. Some places had that bitter taste... This had none of that. My mocha is another surprise. Fragrant coffee with a very nice scent of cocoa. Definitely not the mundane stuff we get at other chain coffee places. We will definitely be back!

We had a great dinner at The Lokal on a weekend night. Service was excellent by JJ and he gave us many recommendations and all of them were on point indeed. Dishes that we ordered i.e. Crabcake, Pork Chop and Catch of the Day were delicious and beyond expectations. Would highly recommend.

3rd visit in the past 2 months because its just been consistently good (or at least whatever we've ordered so far has been! ). Love the crab cake, the seafood linguine & the very stellar grapefruit margarita. Special mention for their Reuben sandwich & beef ragu pasta too 😬

Food was okay, but the waiting experience is terrible. Arrived at 11 AM to avoid lunch crowd, and inqurying to get table for 2, a lot of tables available but I am not allowed in till my friend arrived, which he did in 15mins. Was given terrible table, then waited a long time just to order, then even longer time till the food and drinks arrived. Careful in saying yes if the waiter offer large size of drinks, they charge $3 extra, honestly I was suprised.

Service was really not the best - I remember this place left me with better impression in that past than my recent visit. Coffee was just so-so, truffle fries are good but nothing out of the world. Can't comment on the main food menu since we didn't try it this time round. May not be the worst place but I walked out thinking I wouldn't want to be back again as we didn't feel welcome and there's better options in the vicinity.

Was there for the brownie. Was impressed with the vanilla ice cream. The brownie? Not so much. While the brownie was nicely baked and warm, it wasn’t as chewy as what I would have liked.

Service is ok. Food is good. Highlight was the nice T bone steak, which was $90 for 600g, comes with fries, salad, and mushroom sides. It was pricey but at least it was nice. The terrible part was the WAITING. We had to wait 40 mins just for our STARTERS. Also felt annoyed that the table beside us got their food first although they ordered after us. After finishing our starters we had to wait even longer. I think the fact that we felt restless waiting already shows that the waiting time was longer than average restaurants. The portion was also actually very big. If you’re getting the steak, consider sharing the portion.

Today was my 4th visit to Lokal and the first to try the dinner menu including week's special. All dishes were incredibly good. Ricotta and jam toast (with honey) : my favorite. never lets me down. could be everybody's cup of tea Deep fried zucchini flower : never tried this kond of veggie before but extremely good. being stuffed with ricotta cheese is such an icing on the cake. Octopus : so tender. seasoned to perfection Rigatoni : squid flavor was unique and worth try Last but not least, our server JJ offered us a fantastic service. He gave us detailed information about recommended menu, was very helpful. He kept paying a careful attention to us to make sure everything's ok. His tone and attitude were very gentle and polite. Basically, I've never experienced such a thoughtful and caring service in SG I'll definitely visit again to dig in another fantastic dishes

SO HAPPY to have found this lovely cafe. The staff are really sweet and friendly; the ambience of the cafe is cozy and comfortable. I ordered Ricotta & Jam toast which was delicious! The homemade ricotta absolutely killed it. My friend had smoked salmon salad which was equally tasty! The latte and macchiato were as expected - not so special. If you're looking for a cute cafe to have a brunch, I recommend The Lokal.

A huge fan of this place that we used Yo visit for brunch almost twice a month for 3 years LOL 😂 They have The only Worth- to - eat - calories from their Sticky Date pudding ! So yum and yes I don’t mind running 10K after brunch - their not boring - salad with Super ingredients - sandwiches which my man loved Not a fan of their burger but I love their “ today special menu “ is well prepared and only served at limited time so I always come back because every week ( used to ) is different !

Local eclectic cafe with home-style food makes any visit comfortable. I stopped in after a work week before the dinner crowd arrived and treated myself to a coffee plus a slice of apple cake to unwind from the office. Not too crowded in the pre-dinner period, the service was quick, my well crafted coffee and a large slice of crispy cookie arrived quickly. The home style quality of the food was evident immediately as the cookie flavor instantly transported me back to Italian biscotti, but the thinness reminded me of the almond-flavored waffle cookies my great aunt used to make and keep in tall coffee tins she would serve when we visited. Muffins were on special, but I asked the friendly staff for a recommendation, and they suggested the apple cake slice. Smooth vanilla yellow cake, with an entire layer of baked apples on top, and an aroma of rich cinnamon. The slice looked a bit large on the plate... Surprisingly i was finishing it before I realized! Definitely a place to return to for homemade eats.

I hadn't been back here since the Aussie Burger night (which was also good) so it was nice to get in for an early lunch and go for a nostalgic steak with eggs. Service is still top notch, atmosphere is welcoming and the meal was great and perfectly seasoned !! Additionally, I respect that this team are able to tell you where the produce comes from, which is much better than most.

The food wise was pretty decent, portion was okay, the long black was good. Poor customer service was the reason it is rated low. We were quite annoyed by the waiter in charge of the day. We were just finished the last bite of our food, he was so eagerly cleaning the table, sending the bill for payment (we never even request for bill) and keeping the cutlery and serviette ...while we still have full cup of coffee to go. We were like..hey excuse me, we were there for like only 30 mins?? Will go back for the food but hopefully with better customer service.

Lovely space, nice atmosphere and relaxed wait staff. It’s a good place to stop by for a drink, most people were having their dinner there. We stopped by for a drink for a short time. Probably would go back again. Had Chai latte and sparkling water. Chai latte could be stronger in my opinion. Stopped by again for sticky date pudding. It’s wobbly! And moist and sweet but not ridiculous, and the sauce is so good. Best I’ve tasted , and for a reasonable price compared to other cafes with the same food item. And 3rd visit to try the beef ragu pasta (tasty) I’d say portion size for me is good. I can actually share that and order a dessert! cappuccino taste normal to me.

During this latest lockdown, The Lokal offers takeaway/ delivery of Western comfort food. I came across their adverts, signed up to their WhatsApp group to receive offers and today, bought my first takeaway: German Sauerbraten, which is roast beef in a red wine sauce (in this version here) which gives it a slightly sweet and sour taste. This was of excellent quality: the taste as expected, the beef melt in mouth. Served with mashed potatoes and red cabbage in a separate box, prepared such that despite the takeaway all remained nicely separated and not mixed into a mess- very nice. In Germany, we say “das Auge isst mit” (your eyes dine alongside you) and I’m already looking forward to see this freshly served on dine in come August. A great new find for me (some of my colleagues had eaten there already). Will definitely go back again!

Waited 45 minutes for a table via normal booking system. Upon turn, was offered kitchen counter table but was not comfortable thus requested to wait longer for a normal table. Was served a horrendous attitude and told that I will not be prioritised because they have a long list of people waiting and I can wait one hour plus more because other people made the effort to book (but I believe I did too). No matter how good the food may be, service staff who attended to me was downright rude and unpleasant. Decided to eat somewhere else in the end.

(Translated by Google) [Instagram Blogger: ef.foodie.sg] Toasted Banana Bread (SGD 15) Overall level: 4/5 ⭐ @thelokalsingapore . The Lokal is a nice cafe and restaurant best for brunch or just a coffee, a very cosy & casual place. One of the key highlights here is actually the dessert-the toasted banana bread, it's a disb comprises of banana bread (obviously), caramelised bananas, macadamia nuts and housemade vanilla yogurt. The bread was warm and light, the crunchy macadamia nuts gave it an additional texture and the caramelised banana slices further enriched the banana flavours, the unsweetened homemade yogurt also balanced the sweetness well. I'm not much of a dessert person but I still think this is absolutely delicious, the price is a bit steep but I would say it worths a try. Lokal is a nice cafe and restaurant, best for brunch or coffee gatherings, a very comfortable and casual place. The main highlight here is this special dessert-toasted banana bread, which is composed of toasted banana bread (of course...), caramelized bananas, macadamia nuts and homemade vanilla cheese. The bread has a warm texture and is soft and ripe. The crunchy macadamia nuts make it more tasteful. The caramelized banana further enriches the banana flavor of this dessert. The homemade cheese without sugar also balances the sweetness of the dessert. I'm not a very good dessert person. Although the price is not cheap, I think it is still worth a try.
