Indian vegetarian restaurant serving North and South Indian vegetarian fare. The food was good and service staff were attentive. It would be great if there was a hand wash area within the restaurant since most of the tiffin items are best handled by hand. The staff attending to our table was helpful and offeredwet tissues to clean up so thumbs up for that! πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½

This place serves only vegetarian food. My friends and I came on a weekday for dinner . Easy to get seats. Don’t underestimate the dishes. It’s actually very filing ! Food was good! My fav dish goes to kebab corn!

Wow. Wow. Wow. Words are falling short for the unbelievably amazing food we had at Nalan. Outstanding and Incredible. We have now gone to Nalan twice in 3days and we are still not over the food and the amazing taste, quality and the service. We had Podi Idli, Rava masala dosa, idli, dahi vada, South indian thali, paneer butter masala and naan, gobi manchurian and cheese dosa. Nalan takes the 1st spot undoubtedly to the best south indian food in Singapore: after having eaten in every south indian restaurant in Singapore from Anjappar, MTR, Ananda Bhawan, Komala vilas etc, all are not even 50% close to NALAN. Thank you Sukhwinder for your fabulous service: really glad that you took care of all our requests for extra churneys and sambar etc Will only and only eat at NALAN now

Great food, beautiful ambience and excellent service.. What else we need to love a restaurant. We'll be visiting again, though we stay a bit far from City hall, not just for the tasty food.. for the excellent service by Prakash & team.

First time eating in a vegetarian restaurant. Food is amazing! Didn’t really know what to order so we asked the staff for recommendation! Great food and great staff would recommend :) do come earlier as it tends to be a little crowded during eating hours. Ps: Butter milk might not be for everyone, Mango lassi is amazing

Super duper ...one of the best vegetrain resturant in Singapore. Food was yum...vegetrain resturant. Paneer tikka 100/100 Plain Dosa 100/100 Chole batura 100/100 Vegetable manchurians aweosme Podi Idli must have Mango lassi omg one of the best ever i had Kuttu Parotha was bang on must must try Tandoori roti was ok Dal makhani was good Vegetable kofta was ok We loved Chole Batura. Paper dosa not too good ...unless u want to have a very crisp dosa. I prefer Plain dosa than Paper dosa. Guess this place I will rate too good for South India food than North India food. My kid love dosa n sambhar n paneer tikka so would definitely suggest for kids. Ambience good ...seating arrangement good. Can improve on the searing arrangement with better furniture specially tables ..very flimsy.

Ordered the rava masala lunch set and it was crispy, chewy and had generous fillings. Paneer tikka was nice and smoky, samosa was quite ordinary. Ginger tea was kind of mild.

Love their extensive menu and delicious tasting food. There’s something for everyone. Recommend to go in at least a group of 4 if you want to try more dishes. Service is friendly and efficient. A tad pricey hence the 4-star rating.

Mediocre food and horrendous service. We went here for a Christmas lunch. The food we ordered were briyani meal, garlic butter naan set, dosa set and paneer tikka. They came in huge quantities and the service was unorganised but fast. However, the staff disappointed me. They were so slow and never cared about customers. The waiter would stand there and do nothing even when we were waving at them to catch their attention. They would look at us and ignore us. The food was okay and the ambience is not bad. Just fix the horrible staff.

It's me and my wife first experience. We came to this place because my wife was looking for prata. After coming in we met our friend and sitting together, at the end we changed our mind for ordering their set meal (idly, thosai and vadai) instead. We shared as it's our snacking time. The thosai was nice, but the vadai and idly were mindblowing because it's our first time tasting idly and it's great. It's like a steamed bread but in thin shape. And the vadai was completely different to our previous experience before because the vadai was served hot (freshly fried). It's totally change our mind about vadai for sure and the condiment sauces all were good! And at the end our friend ordering us for masala tea (it's our first experience too) and tasted soft, nice and soothing (I only use 1 sachet of sugar, the sweetness just nice). Definitely will come again for their batura as we love batura (we had our 1st experience before when we're staying in one of the hotel in Bintan) and other dishes too.

Just had a fantastic dinner with family. Peaceful ambience, fresh tasty food - rare to find an Indian restaurant serving fresh coconut and onion chutney at 9pm. Every item was awesome topped off with hot carrot halwa with Vanilla Ice cream - out of the world

Awesome vegetarian food, albeit on the pricey side. (It is in the Capitol after all…) The highlight of the night had to be the Dhahi Poori. The service was also good, with our server kindly helping us identify the Dhahi Poori from my companion’s photo (she forgot the name but wanted to reorder the dish from her previous visit), and keeping us well hydrated during the meal.

Palak paneer was okay, good texture, the only thing was it was very pricey for the portion size ($21). Added cashew rice too and that was $15. I get that it's restaurant pricing in town area but I think the portion size can be increased. I would say the place is nice and quiet for catch ups, except at the end, the waiter seemed in a rush to clear our table even though my friends and I were in conversation. It wasn't because there were any customers needing the table and it was around 8.30pm so not that they were close to closing time too so I felt it could have waited until we left.

Nalan is a posh Indian restaurant located at B1 of Capitol building. It is easily accessible via the underpass from City Hall MRT station. The food was great but the prices not so, I can’t fathom paying $13 for a plate of rice (enough for one person only). We had the aloo Gobi Masala, and the Methi Malai paneer. For carbs we had one garlic naan (cut into two pieces) and Jeera rice. They kept upselling their cucumber chiller but we just chose plain water. Many service staff standing around but they’re not so proactive. Food was delicious and we left around one hour.

Syed and his colleagues were attentive with one of them patiently guides us how to eat the Pani Puri. Food again as usual didnt disappoint & that Basmati rice is so fragrant fluffy we love it very much. Dal Palak & Channa Masala were both alliums-free & despite that they can still whipped them up very well. Salted Lassi is creamy and sure was a generous glass to end our meal at Nalan.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Singapore, I would say. Value for money, good ambience, great service and well prepared food ! I have tried almost all their dishes from North Indian to South Indian to Chinese and must say all of them meet the expectations! Wishing Nalan good luck to continue and sustain the 5 star rating πŸ‘πŸΌ

Good vegetarian restaurant to satisfy your craving for Indian food especially for pani puri, which is not in most Indian restaurants. The restaurant is located in the Capitol Piazza so quite convenient to go if you are already there for shopping. Tue food came out quite fast after we ordered. We got six dishes for three people and we were quite full by the end of the meal.

I ordered a chaat (dahi Puri) and ghee dosa for dinner. The food was amazing. The quantity was perfect. The chutneys and sambar served with dosa was so good. The dosa was average tasting. The Dahi Puri was very delicious and the curd wasn't sour or overly sweetened. I strongly recommend this place and I'll soon visit.

5 stars for super delicious yummy healthy Vegetarian Indian food right in the middle of town at B2 of The Capitol. There’s a reason why it is the busiest restaurant there. Thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. Try the Vegetable Manchurian, it’s like Sweet sour pork without the pork! The bomb!

Our experience as first time visitors was disappointing as a few friends had recommended this place. The waiter recommended their dahi vada which we ordered, but it was not tasty at all - vadas were too hard, dahi was sour and there was no seasoning at all. We also ordered Butter Masala Dosa - the taste was ok but both of our dosas were cold and the sambhar was not well flavored. After we complained the manager did not charge us for dahi wada. Other than food, the ambiance is nice and the service staff are polite and friendly. However, our overall experience was not good and I don't recommend the restaurant and I am certain that we will not go there again!

Lovely food, excellent service. Visited twice so far, ordered their 2 types of set lunches ($13&$15), affordably priced, generous portions and very tasty. Staff very attentive and offered to give us plates so we can share the food. Also patiently explains dishes on the menu. Also tried their ginger tea (strong & spicy, authentic) and masala tea (milky and aromatic). Their vadai (2for $5, set of dipping sauces) are fluffy, smell amazing and soft. Delicious! Highly recommended!

Nalan is my go-to place whenever I have the urge for Indian vegetarian cuisine. The restaurant serves authentic Indian vegetarian food at very reasonable prices. However, do note that the very refreshing mango lassi costs S$9.00. Nalan also have good Indian dessert. They have another outlet at Little India.

It’s a good place to visit for vegetarian people. They have good options and combos for both South Indian and North Indian food items. I visited this place with my family, we enjoyed the taste as well food preparation and presentation. Kids loved the Pav bhaji and we liked the South Indian platter. We had a good dinner time during weekend.

4.5 stars vegetarian restaurant. Have to shave off a bit of stars due to price, but you definitely pay for good quality here! Food quality: All food and drinks were of very good quality: + Set lunch quantity was good for sharing + Pani puri is tasty and not too oily + Gobi Manchurian was crispy n tasty + Aloo gobi is a spicy potato and cauliflower curry to go with naan + Palak paneer is spinach and cheese non-spicy option to go with naan + Garlic butter naan was delicious and served hot + Mango lassi was tasty and not too sweet Food portion / Price: + Indian restaurant portions as expected. - Prices felt steep here. Service: Staff were attentive, food was served relatively quickly after ordering. Crowd: Restaurant was large enough to cater to wider lunch crowd and still allow walk ins. Payment: Card accepted.

While the food was nice, it wasn't anything special, and it was way way overpriced. Taste profile for most of the dishes were similar. Could have gotten a wider and tastier variety of Indian vegetarian food at any restaurant in little India at serangoon Road. Location was an open lot at a basement, which further didn't warrant such exquisite prices.

I had a fantastic dining experience at Nalan! The service was impeccable, and the quality of their Indian vegetarian dishes was truly outstanding. From the moment I entered, the staff (Syed) made me feel welcome and attended to all my needs with a smile. The menu offered a wide variety of flavorful options, and each dish was expertly prepared, showcasing authentic Indian flavors that delighted my taste buds. I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail in presentation and the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients. I can't wait to visit again and savor more of their delectable offerings. Highly recommend for anyone seeking top-notch service and delicious Indian vegetarian cuisine!

Went with my two kiddos as they had craving for Indian food. Staff were observant and helped to push tables near to kiddos for comfortable dining from onset and were attentive to keep refilling our water. We had poori set, thosai set, pani puri and so on. Kiddos were intrigued by the pani puri and liked it with the tangy water. Their most loved was the butter naan which isn’t in the photos. Overall, an enjoyable and delightful dining experience at Nalan, City Hall.

The waiters were friendly; the setting suited well for family dining; and the food was authentic, flavour rich, and remarkably presented. The Cheese Naan was lovely and paired nicely with the two types of gravies we ordered - Gobi Manchurian and Paneer Butter Masala. The bombastic-looking Channa Battura was above our expectation. The Dahi Puri was a hit or miss kind of food; some of our taste buds couldn't tolerate the sourness of it. Though most of the food were a success, their Podi Masala Thosai failed to shine; it tasted like chinese medicine to us, who were foreign to the cuisine. Lastly, they should either upgrade their offline menu book or subscribe to a better web domain as it was very laggy to open the online menu. Please put more pictures :) Staffs: Poobalan and team. Keep up the warm service!

I love Nalan and I come here all the time. Although it’s fully vegetarian, you’re spoilt for choice. The food is very yummy and it’s generally full which shows the quality of the food here. Service is fast and attentive. The customers are not only Indians but I frequently see other nationalities coming to enjoy the food. Whenever I want vegetarian, this is my first choice

A decent place for typical North Indian and South Indian food. We were here on 2 different days and felt that the set meals were a bit filling as compared to the Γ  la carte mainly because of the quantity offered against the prices. If you're from India, the setup and hospitality is something you'll be quite familiar with. Recommended for visitors and repeat eaters alike.

Not sure why this is rated 3.9! We had ordered food from here before and it was ok - not great, but not bad. We finally decided to go check out the restaurant and it was a bad idea. Service was terrible. Nobody to greet you upfront - we had to walk all the way to the middle and ask them for a table. They were trying to push us into one corner as they were trying to close out other sections. Nobody comes to the table - for everything you have to call them - need water, need plates, ready to order, need check. Food was cold and below average. Prices are cheap by Singapore standards, but then service and food also is quite bad. Never going back here again.

Location is very prime and seating arrangement is also very convenient. Menu has lots of vegetarian items. Staff is courteous too. Food quality is nice especially for south indian food items. We had ordered Hakka Noodle which was prepared with too much of oil, therefore we couldn’t eat more than a spoon or two. Upon giving feedback to the restaurant manager about this, he duly noted the same and cancelled the item from our bill.

When my friend asked me for Indian fare, I admit I was initially skeptical about Nalan, an all-vegetarian restaurant with the odd trapping of being quasi-Victorian in ambience. Were they creating a visual space signalling an upper-class patronage...or were they incidentally anachronistic? Nevermind that, I thought! Anyway, all that skepticism about the mismatch was blown out of the water when I tried their paneer butter masala. (Keep in mind it is vegetarian!) Oh the cottage cheese! Oh the rich cream! Oh and, their salt lassi is worth a shot too! For a meat-and-potatoes guy, I did not expect Nalan's to produce such an array of such quality Indian food. While it is on the slightly more expensive end of the spectrum, the food certainly is worth the wait and money.

I would say, the food quality and taste is not considerable as expected. If you haven’t tasted the South Indian food before or not a South Indian food eater , you might like this place . But proper South Indians, you might want to think about this place ;) the sambar for dosa was given in a extremely small quantity unlike other places and There is no place to wash your hands :D Pretty nice ambience though and the staffs were nice !

Went there without booking on a busy Sunday afternoon. It was a bit crowded and we were told that our waiting time would be around 25 mins, but got our table within the next ten mins. Ordered our food in the next 5, it was in our table in another 10. Within 25 mins of our arrival, we had delicious meals in our hand. I guess we were lucky. The food is great, would recommend pre booking before.

The positive reviews about Nalan are true. My friends and I enjoyed the food very much. Service was prompt and friendly, especially from Gaya and the Manager. Atmosphere was warm and cordial. We would love to stay a little longer but left when we saw a queue forming outside the restaurant.

The South Indian dishes are good. Value for money and a good ambience. They have set meals of idly, podi dosa and vada with 3 different types of chutney and sambar. For drink you can try their rose milk which is really tasty and just right to satiate your tastebuds.

There is a good variety of vegetables, naan, thosai and others. Love the vegetables. We had ladies finger, egg plant, potatoes and spinach, cauliflower, cheese curry and plain naan. It was also the first time we had egg plant cooked in a mashed way. Overall, the dishes were tasty but not too salty and one can easily have the dishes on its own without any naan or rice.

Have been there 3 to 4 times now and progressively the quality of the food has been declining. Yesterdays (3rd January 2021) experience was very bad. The quality and quantity of food was very low. This time for sure have made a note of not visiting Nalan again.

Good menu options and Great food , while the portion size is smaller. May be because it’s fine dining and also the location . Pleasant waiting staff and delivery to the table was quick.

Nice indian vegetarian restaurant. Walking distance from city Hall MRT. Large seating area.service can be a bit slow. Good North Indian and south Indian options. Price is reasonable, but quantity of curry might be a bit less. This restaurant doesn't offer any great view. And there is noisy water fountain at one end which does look good, doesn't sound good.

One of the best vegetarian Indian restaurants in the city. Taste and quality is pretty good. Ambience and hygiene is one of the best in the city, considering the price which is relatively cheaper. Overall my go to place other than small issue which they have with the service.

  • 4/5 Senkodan T. 1 year ago on Google
Good option for vegetarian or Indian food if you're in the city area. Reasonably priced for the ambience and location. The waiting staff are very friendly and prompt but don't expect food to arrive in a particular order. You must know what to order as some items are really good (like the kothu prata, paneer tikka, kebab and bhatura) while others are only passable (like dahi vada and the mango lassi).

Today I was in the mood for vegetarian food, and decided to visit Nalan at Capitol Piazza. Ordered the onion rawa masala dosa and sweet lasi. The dosa was excellent and paired well with the equally good sambar and 3 types of chutney. The service was also fast and efficient. Definitely worth repeat visits.

This restaurant is a safe place to go for everyone as dishes are very palatable and you will definitely find food of your choice at a very reasonable price especially if you order South Indian dishes Parotta Kurma was the best dish Paneer tikka not done scientifically correct way but was tasty Podi dosa and cheese dosa not worth it. Both MTR and Murugan idly have better podi options. Stick to the plain or masala dosa only…. Coffe was passable nothing special Still I would recommend this place as a safe and good vegetarian dining option in the heart of the coty

Lovely restaurant… amazing vegetarian food.. especially South Indian.. must visit to satisfy your taste buds! Take MRT exit D to reach here.. it is on basement 2 of Capitol. Google maps shows exit B which is incorrect. Enjoy! πŸ˜€

Our server Prakash was excellent in service! He went above and beyond checking on us continually and giving us tips on our food choices. The atmosphere is very friendly and the food was tasty as well. Thank you Nalan!

Excellent service and vegetarian food at Nalan restaurant. We had tomato soup, dal pancharatna, rotis and rasmalai, they were all delicious with just the right amount of oil and spices. Moreover, the restaurant staff are very helpful and serve with a smile. Will definitely visit here again πŸ˜€

We passed by and thought let's have a short tea break. They have a great tea break special for just $10; 2 cups of masala tea and a chaat item. We chose dahi puri. A tad too sweet for our liking but the spices and flavours were very, very good. Since we were there, why not have a masala thosai as well. It didn't disappoint us. The chutney and sambar were excellent too. Thanks to Monica for the excellent service. I'd like to commend the other servers too as we can clearly see that they all hold up a good professional standard.

This is our 5th time catering from Nalan just this year. They have never let us down with the quality of their food. Very hearty and delicious each time. This time, we catered their bento boxes since our extended family planned for a picnic. The food was packed so neatly. Priya, whom I always work with to organize the catering has always been stellar in her service. She goes above and beyond to endure I receive only the best from Nalan. Highly recommend their food and will continue to cater from them!

Absolutely wonderful food. Came here by myself on a Sunday night. Staff was wonderful in accommodating for vegans, and clarified to add no butter or ghee in my meal. I got the Aloo Gobi (Cauliflower and Potatoes in a Tomato Masala sauce) with Basmati rice. The Aloo Gobi was simply incredible, the flavor was so strong but not overwhelming, just perfect really. It’s clear they care a lot about the food here. The atmosphere was wonderful, very classy despite most guests being in shorts. The staff were dressed very nicely and were very attentive and quick. My server was Kathiravan, and he was quick to check up on me when I needed anything. It was not super cheap for a meal, but the price was well worth it to me, especially considering how expensive Singapore is. Highly recommend if you love flavorful Indian food!
