This Restaurant is vegetarian and food is generally consistent in terms of quality. This Restaurant is generally recommended for its Food quality and i concur. Hygiene is a bit of an issue and needs improvement. The Tea & Coffee are made from fresh milk and are good to taste. Service gets spotty during peak hours. Some staff are motivated while the others need motivation. For South Indian food from Tamil Nadu they are authentic and good. You get idli, dosa, appam, sambar, chutney etc. Appams are generally freshly prepared upon customer placing the order. Although for chaats, imho it's not the best place. There are better restaurants for chaat in Singapore. Oh yes and before i forget ... they never give an itemized bill break down and that really sucks.

I wish I'd taken more photos, but it's too hard to resist the amazing food. This place is a hidden gem on Upper Dickson Road. We're regulars at this place, and there hasn't been a single time when the food has not been upto the mark. The consistency they bring in their flavors is amazing! And the warmth with which everytime we're greeted is unimaginable. Highly recommended!!!! P.S. it's a pure vegetarian place.

This is a no frills eatery located in little India. I went by the gushing reviews about this place and was pleasantly surprised to experience everything mentioned in review. Food - Not really sure about authenticity but it's good......fresh, flavourful and appetising! We went crazy with our order...... had the popular 'wadai dipped in sambhar', plain dosa, paper masala dosa, pongal and 2 small hot coffees! Food was amazing and so was the beverage.......trust me it's very hard to find decent filter coffee in Singapore and this one came very close to good strong hot coffee! We are definitely coming back for more :D Service - Simply amazing,at least we were greeted by good and helpful staff. Ambience - It's not posh and honestly a bit old style but clean with cozy vibe; we saw owner having friendly chat with some patrons. All in all it was Sunday morning well spent as this restaurant reminds of typical south Indian restaurants that we have back in India so would definitely be back here to try other dishes on menu.

Best vadai ever! Surprisingly soft and fluffy, the best I have tried! All three dipping sauces were excellent too! Puri with chick pea curry, my favourite combination. Great vegetarian restaurant!

I love the vadai, it's the tastiest I've ever had and I'm surprised how nice and crisp it is outside, and soft and warm inside. Makes me feel like I've been eating nonsense for a long time. The VIP Thali is also absolutely delicious! Likewise the dosai. Service was o-k, the waiter actually got two out of 5 orders wrong, but was quick to serve us the correct item after that. Didn't get to try the appam where they make it freshly on the spot. Can't wait to come back here again.

Simple no frills good Veg food and value for money! Ghee Masala Dosa is an all time favourite! Great service and the Manager has excellent PR skills & memory ! Fairly crowded specially around lunch and dinner times ! But worth the wait !

Our favorite Indian breakfast place in Singapore and go to place on weekends. Food has consistently high quality, 9/10 times the service is great. We've tried most south Indian dishes here - rava Dosa and medu vada are probably the best I've had anywhere. They also serve delicious thaalis for lunch and dinner. Anthony is our go to service staff here and always ensures we get the nuances we prefer!!

Standard of appam set has dropped. Far cry of its glorious taste. 1 particular male staff clearly prefers serving one particular race only.

Excellent Appam set served before 10AM masala tea pretty decent though a bit more than the average compared to similar local restaurants. Nice people. Follow up - Appams also served up until 9:30pm in the evening though not sure when start point is. Upma and vada are both tasty too and staff are nice. Generally one of the calmer and more relaxing of the Indian restaurants that we've been to in Little India. Well priced.

Time to enjoy a nice breakfast with an appam set and a madras tea (small). Appam was soft on the centre and slightly crispy on the exterior. Served warm. It goes really well with the orange sugar and coconut milk. Madras tea was thick & creamy, and you can add sugar as you need.🫓☕ The place was packed in the morning, but no queue at my time (8.30am, Sunday). Staff seemed busy & stressed (this has been the energies of many people these days as we are undergoing purging collectively). Boss is kind and friendly, quietly came by to top up my orange sugar when I used it up the first round. 🙏🏻

I seldom eat Indian food And I am surprise that I love it very much. The different gravy, sauces and dips are mild to moderately spicy. Prices are reasonable. A great place to bring family and friends to enjoy great Indian vegetarian food here. I recommend for first timer to try the set I ordered. It is enough for 1-2 pax. Dinner menu has more dishes and varieties but this set is great to have for lunch.

Good place to have south Indian meals. There were several items on the platter and tasty too. The taste was authentic South Indian. Would recommend the restaurant to increase the quantity of rice provided in the meals as it seemed to be very less. It was insufficient to eat along with Sambar, Kozhambu, Rasam and curd. The side dishes were nice and quantity decent too.

Famous for their Appam which is very fluffy and has crispy edges, this Indian restaurant serves authentic South Indian cuisine in Little India. Their tea tarik is thick and milky, though a bit sweet, but it is very fragrant and perfectly mixed. Restaurant set-up and ambience is good. Their staffs are attentive and provides excellent service too. Food are reasonably priced as well. Worth to give this place a visit.

Had a very nicer dinner here while craving Dosa. Took a set of curry puff along with the Dosa and some Mango Lasi to cool myself down. The service was fast and friendly, the manager and staff are very professional and welcoming. Food was clean and tasty, serviced fast and in a nice way, prices are very affordable. They only accept PayLah for cards or cash, since I’m a tourist and usually cashless I didn’t had a way to pay. The manager trusted me blindly that I’ll return after withdrawing cash at ATM and even gave me directions to find it :) The place nice and cosy, good for couples friends and families.

We went for Breakfast on 18th Sept... no rush at all in the restaurant... very pleasant quick service... very friendly... foid taste wise average and can do better I feel specific to break fast... but the people working are there friendly... unfortunately, they are not accepting visa or master card.. maje sure carry a local card or carry cash.. but they accepted inr and so generous. ... we ordered plain idly, sambhar idly, dosa and coffee... dosa is average and can be better... as it is ganesha vinayagar chaturthi and took some idol photos from near shop.

Price: $3.70 (Plain Thosai) Plain Thosai: 5/5 Thosai was crispy, savoury and had a good sour taste. Sambar: 5/5 Sambar was flavourful, moreish, hearty and sweet. Chutney: 4.5/5 Orange chutney was tangy, tomatoey and spicy. White chutney was coconuty and creamy. Total score: 14.5/15 Add-ons: Madras Coffee ($2.90) was fragrant and milky. Very standard and good filter coffee. Service was quick and the service staff were very polite and friendly.

Must eat = vadals - plump & crispy on the outside while soft on the inside! My 2nd visit and more to come! If u have a big appetite, go for the thalis too! Well, eat both like I did! 😋

This is the best vegetarian in Singapore. It's simply mind blowing. One of the items which value for your money is the VIP Thaali. The amount of items given needs 2 or more people to finish it. Recommended meal for all who lives on budget meal. This place I totally recommend for everyone who plans to eat vegetarian in Singapore.

Such a nice place! Visiting from Germany on a few hours transit, I didn’t have any cash on me, the owner was so kind that he offered to give the meal for free! The food was extremely delicious, and quick service.

I've been here a few times but this is actually the worst experience. Knowing that it would be crowded thus I decided to make reservations but to my surprised, they just simply say no such reservations without checking. Fortunately we had a table since we were early. The senior staff was pretty bad with his service and was very impatient to chase us out after we had our food even we did not finished our drinks. His courtesy was terrible. Well the only consolation was the food was not bad as I have been there before. So good luck to those who's planning to dine there.

One of my top four favourite places for South Indian Food in Singapore. The food is served piping hot. The thosai or dosas are crisp. the accompanying chutney delicious though the Sambar curry is just AVERAGE. The Appam are nice with the tasty orange sugar and coconut sauce. My favourite is the evergreen idli and vada . One of the best in town. Service is mediocre and they need to up the game on that front . Overall , as I said part of my top 4 South Indian breakfast restaurants.

Was in the Little India area for an appointment, and thought I should take the opportunity to have a good southern Indian meal! Searched up some locations near me, and decided to try this one :) Ghee masala dosa- freshly made~ Generous potato and onion chunks and enjoyed the blending of flavours from the creamy coconut chutney to the spicy one (not sure what’s in it!) and eggplant vegetable curry. Bliss! Appam. Admittedly my first time having this dish. I thought it would be a small serving but no, looked like I’d ordered another meal 🥹 It came served with palm sugar and coconut milk. Crisp on the outer ridges and fluffy in the steamed centre, these fermented rice cakes were quick to please. The best way I can describe this is a sourdough min jiang kuih 😂 if this is what a good appam tastes like, then i daresay I struck Toto on my first appam! One of the regulars sat beside me and recommended their chai masala tea. “If I can still sleep after having tea”, she warned. And so I added that in to round off a meal for one pax. Deliciously brewed and the right mix of spice. Total damage for a full belly’s worth and a very happy soul? $15.70 🤪 TAKE MY MONEY!!

Authentic South Indian that is budget-friendly and tasty. Since the restaurant is inside a bi-lane, it is easy to miss but you will keep visiting this place once you try it out. The price tag is just right and the owners don't rob you of all the money for serving fancy food. Finding a place might be tricky on weekends but worth waiting for.

  • 5/5 Eric Y. 11 months ago on Google
Loved the appam. They make it fresh and the milk taste very well together with the red sugar. Good customer service as well. Recommended!

Vegetarian restaurant serving authentic food. Service worked but wasn't particularly friendly and not everyone could speak English. Food was served fast. Would go again. At first they suggested to visit the new Madras Woodlands Ganga outlet, I am happy that I didn't go because that place serves a random mix of Asian dishes.

Delicious vegetarian south Indian food that’s very affordable. I got the VIP Thali which came in a huge portion but it was still $10 only hahah. You can get other dishes for cheaper. Rasam was great. I found the spice level to be just nice for me but it can be a little too much for those who can’t take spice. Free flow mineral bottled water too. Would recommend!

Madras New Woodlands used to serve better quality food for lower price before. I have been a regular customer there for many years. However, my recent visit was not very pleasant. For a dosa, 2 vadai and a pongal, they gave me a bill for $13.70. I paid and then looked at it again and suspected they overcharged me. I went back and checked. Then they said they overcharged me $1.50. MNW restaurant charges far more than the other Indian restaurants around Little India while their quality is declining in the recent months. If they are not focused on serving quality food for affordable price, other restaurants will overtake them in no time.

  • 1/5 Sankrith R. 3 years ago on Google
They have just successfully ruined the image of 'Madras Woodlands.' Angry lady at the counter who will yell at you if you don't have cash and prefer to pay by card with a tiny board that no on can see that reads 'no cards.' Rude...and horrible food.

Love the way we are welcomed every time by the owner like we are long time friends 😊. Just a small gesture of inviting customers inside with a smile makes you want to come back again! The place itself is complete value for money. This place never ceases to impress you with an awesome customer service, finger licking food and nice ambiance. Safe entry and temperature checks ensured. The bathrooms were very neat and clean. We ordered the madras thali and paper dosa. The flavours of the food, texture of dosa was great. We ordered a glass of buttermilk to go with our food. Whenever in Little India and in a mood to have South Indian food, look nowhere else. We'll be back soon too ;) Edit: Tried the curd rice on special recommendation and were very impressed. The Vadai was crispy outside and soft inside .. just love the flavours and textures.. the Mix uttapam was yummy too.

  • 5/5 Lionel L. 3 years ago on Google
Appam was deceptive in appearance (bland) but incredibly crispy and well flavored from the fermented rice flour. Paper masala dosa was crispy n well balanced by spice filled potatoes. Poori accompanied by piquant chickpea curry to die for. Masala tea is akin to flavors from the chai wallas in India.

It is quite an old restaurant mainly known for South Indian Food. The place is renovated and there is a good choice of food items in the menu. However, it seems that the restaurant needs to improve the receipes to deliver the authentic taste which would justify the price.

This is one underrated restaurant. The staff is so friendly and the manager of the shop is also very friendly. We have tried their VIP meals and I must say every item in that dish was delicious and so homely. Guess what? You can refill if you crave for more. We tried their bathuras also. It was not any unique but it was really tasty and their channa gravy was something so unique and tasty. Also please note the dishes are fairly priced and not at all costly. Must try: Filter Coffee

The food is nothing special.I ordered the mock mutton biriyani, there was one small piece of mock mutton. The waiter must have realised it and then brought the remaining pieces of mutton in a small container. I think there has been a change in management. In general not fantastic service.Very crowded at night so dont expect good service.Expect fellow expat customers who have no dining ethics and take their own long sweet time to order and have no consideration for other diners by making a hell of a noise. What is surprising is you get better service in a non- vegetarian restaurant.I dont blame the poor waiter it looks like he is getting bullied by his good for nothing north indian lead waiter manager who definitely can attend to customers but chooses not to and instead tells his stressed out overworked subordinate to attend to diners waiting to order.A good restaurant undone by badly appointed top down management ,change of ownership ,errant diners.Would not step foot there again.
