Fine dinning restaurant, with a sharing plate concept rather than the usual individual portions. 1) Water/Tea filling service was slow, our cups were consistently empty having to ask for refills 2) We ordered the set menu and 1 of the items were sold out so they replaced it with a cheaper item (almost $10 cheaper) and told us there is no alternative for substitution. (Granted they gave us an additional piece of uni, but probably after I questioned why is the item cheaper) 3) food all very elaborately presented, majority of the dishes were amazing, would skip the desserts as the ice cream was really just frozen cream. If I ever come back will be more selective in the food.

What's really amazing about the food here is how complex but well-balanced the flavours are! I haven't been able to keep food down for a long time due to morning sickness, but I took one bite of the mushroom pizza and instantly my appetite was back! The holy cow sushi and avocado cheese rolls were so amazing, I never tasted sushi so light but delicious before! Even something as simple as crispy tofu is so well done here. The meal ended perfectly with a dessert of an "egg" made of mango passion fruit and vanilla eggshell. Can't forget the flavours for a long time.

Really enjoyed our meal here. We got the Too Good to Share set meal and the service and the quality of the meal. The attendants were quick to rotate our plates after every course. The food itself was amazing, it was all well seasoned and fresh. We left quite full and had to even take some of the food home. We've had set meals before in other restaurants and this one felt very well worth the price. The space is cooled to a very refreshing temperature especially if you've been walking outside in Singapore it can start feeling cold after a while so it might be beneficial to bring a light sweater for those sensitive to highly air conditioned space (I enjoyed it personally haha) Looking forward to coming back in the future and trying more of their a la carte items!

We had some vouchers to use and made a reservation at Akira Back. Overall, the presentation of the food is pretty fancy and there are some unique fusion items. However, I felt that it was lacking in terms of value. We ordered the Hokkaido Scallops, Gyudon and King Alaskan Crab and felt that the ingredients were all really fresh. The preparation of the dishes, however, were pretty ordinary. The addition of truffle to the scallop was appreciated. However, the use of both truffle (in the form of truffle jus and truffle caviar) and foie gras in the Gyudon obscured the taste of the beef. The mentaiko aburi on the king Alaskan crab was a tad bit overpowering and flavour wise, it felt like 90% mentaiko and 10% crab. As with fine dining, the portion was definitely not enough for 2 ladies. While I may not be a serious chef, my humble opinion is that more can be done to bring out the flavour of the main ingredient or a unique blend could be created. By utilizing mentaiko so wildly definitely does not do justice to the ๐Ÿฆ€. In terms of service, it seems they were severely understaffed based on a casual calculation of customers-staff ratio. However, more attentiveness is recommended as we note that the staff do not take quick glances to check on their customers. We had to raise our hands, wave and even walk towards them before they notice us. For an established restaurant, the service can definitely be improved.

Excellent dinner. All the food was delicious and the service was top notch. Lots of Japanese classic food as well as some creative dishes with Korean influence. Loved everything I ate. Would definitely go back again!

Good food, good ambience with good service. Inside the restaurant is a bit cold though. Also the address of the place is 30 Beach Road but if you put this to ride hailing app, there is a chance they will drop you at a much further place so safest to put JW Marriott Hotel as your destination. Tuna pizza and Tacos are good, Wagyu fried rice and scallop are okay.

A perfect Sunday noon lunch sums up our first visit to Akira Back. Known for its unique menu, this place is a delight for Japanese food lovers. There is a separate veg menu which makes it appealing. Each dish was presented beautifully and tasted equally good. Akira is a great choice to dine with friends and family.

Great ambiance and location. Service is attentive but they don't really bother explaining the menu. Food is unique.. Some hit and misses. Taste wise, I prefer real Japanese restaurant. This one is more like a mix of Korean and Japanese.. Not much choice for kids.. 2 adults and 2 kids, bill came out to sgd 250 outside of drinks

Wide selection on the menu comprising of some more โ€œrecognisableโ€ Japanese dishes such as sashimi and sushi rolls but also a lot of fusion type choices mixing with mexican (I think). Great atmosphere for a Wednesday afternoon and perfect for a business lunch or date. Modern, good ambience without being ridiculously expensive (like a lot of the restaurants in that area). Highlights (am sure these arenโ€™t the on menu names) Tuna โ€œpizzaโ€ - which was thinly cut tuna on top of a a thin pastry, interesting idea well executed and perfect appetiser to share Popping candy roll - sushi roll with a popping candy twist (not sure if you can hear in the bud) Desserts - surprise star of the meal were all the desserts we got three to share in a group and each was put together nicely and well balanced

Visited yesterday for dinner as a party of 2. We were seated at one of the "booth" seats at the back of the restaurant. The vibe was pretty good for a Sunday night (I counted around 40-50 covers), taking into account the fact that this is an office/tourist area. Service was attentive and prompt. We requested for dishes that were more unusual, and were recommended a number of options which we went with for the most part. Unfortunately, the Alaska crab leg in dynamite sauce was unavailable (a shame as it looked like a nice dish in the press photos). In the end we went with: - AB tuna pizza (thin pastry covered in aioli, thin tuna slices and finished with a dash of truffle oil and microgreens) - Toro caviar (starring toro slices with gochujiang miso and slivers of oscietre caviar) - Yukhoe (a korean beef tartare) - Yellowtail Tartare (mixed tableside with a bunch of condiments, after which you can scoop it up onto pieces of toasted brioche) - Brother from another mother (a roll that was so named because it features 2 types of eel, one grilled and the other tempura-ed, wth foie gras tourchon and finished with ponzu-spiked mayo) - 48 hour short rib (very korean) - Bee hive (a dessert shaped like a Bee hive incorporating a meringue encased coconut lime sorbet with mango and bee pollen) We also had a bottle of mt difficulty pinot noir to go with the meal. The food was fun and well executed if a little pricey. Plaudits go to the servers for our table: Jerry and Tania, who were great all evening: Tania for patiently making recommendations for the food despite our indecision, and Jerry for making an effort to explain the wine, and also for explaining the sake list. If you liked this review please hit thumbs up so more people will see it.

2 star for food, 1 star for great service. The tuna tataki was good, but overpriced. Sushi was slightly too warm, felt they stayed too long in the palm, the ไธญใƒˆใƒญ was slightly fishy, dessert was a berry sorbet, nothing special. I feel the restaurant is overrated, was quite disappointed.

The signature dishes like tuna pizza, codfish etc. are pretty good. Bold taste and nice presentations. Ordered warm water and at one point was served boiling hot water when they refilled so was caught offguard. Generally nice place. Price is on the high side but food is considered pretty good.

The tuna pizza was the best! Wagyu taco (and the other dishes) was pretty good too - nothing made us unsatisfied really. We would definitely come back again. The staff were very friendly and patient as well. Jenny did a great job! Thank you for making my husbandโ€™s birthday a wonderful one :) P.S. The birthday dessert was yummy but unfortunately not in the menu. I guess, we will have to come back for another celebration to have it :)

I went with my wife during my birthday and we had the set lunch "Two good to Share" The Tuna Salad, in my opinion too pepper on the Tuna that covers the sweetness of the tuna. The ingredients for the starters are fresh but the sauce is a bit overly sour. The main are good with the beef cheek really soft and juicy. The salmon skin is crispy and not too dry. The Fried rice was a bit oily and too filling for 2 of us to finish. As for dessert, the ice-cream tasted really nice but I can't identify the flavour The Service staffs are attentive and bother to explain a bit about the food. As my table was between another 2 tables, I can't help hearing other people's conversations. Perhaps choosing exclusive tables inside the restaurant will be better. Overall, a happy dining experience with good quality food.

We came as we had the klook dinner set as part of our stay in JW. It was supposed to be a 3-course dinner. We added short ribs. It was good. The set dinner was good too. Portion is big, as every serving is for 2. Enjoyed the food. The place is kinda noisy, this i dont really like. Service was so so.

(Translated by Google) Recommended for those who like Japanese food. Please go there. A little price!? It's expensive, but I think it's worth the price. As a restaurant belonging to the Jw Marriott Hotel, the service is flawless. I am very satisfied. The food is particularly well aged so it doesn't have any fishy smell. It's been a long time since I ate good food in a good mood. Wasabi doesn't seem like regular wasabi, and it's really delicious. Soy sauce seems to be aged separately. I felt like I was using the best ingredients. A little bit is a flaw, but the food quality is very high. Food should be eaten a little short... The lunch set menu and dessert are very perfect ^^ (Original) Here 2nd time( but had been ordering takeaway a couple times during circuit breaker lockdown). Had its signature pizzas, brussel sprouts, fried rice, baked crab handrolls, wagyu taco and shiso seabass. All excellent, especially the first 4. The dessert was ab egg(edible sugar egg shell). Not bad, different from usual fare. Comfortable contemporary decor. Highly recommended. Service is par too. We are real fans of Akira Back Bangkok too

Good ambience, good food. Sashimi was fresh and all the food paired well with sake ๐Ÿถ Personal favorites were the tuna / mushroom pizza and miso eggplant. The โ€˜brother from another motherโ€™ roll that the waiter recommended was not as good as I hoped, the roll was just covered in sauce and a little too rich for my liking. Lobster fried rice was nothing special.

Phenomenal food but will put a dent in your pocket (but itโ€™ll be worth it though). The ambience was really cosy and I think itโ€™s a perfect place to dine for any special occasion. A distinct and unique Japanese fusion restaurant where it has a blend of Japanese essence, Asian and South American highlights. Been to Akira Back a few times and both times were excellent with new items on the menu. Keep an open mind and be prepared to be surprised by items on the menu. Had Scallops, Sashimi, Tuna Tacos and various Sushi items. All items were on point and super delish! Wine list selection can be better though. Service was great and will return!

Family Dinner at Akira Back Very good atmosphere. Restaurant is almost full but it does not feel busy nor noisy. Food was surprisingly good, and compliments to our server; Jenny. Patience to explain the menu properly, make good recommendations and throughout the evening attentive to our needs. (1) Wagyu Tacos (2) Tuna Pizza (highly recommended) (3) Rock Shrimp Tempura (4) Yellowtail Tartare (5) Brother from Another Mother (funny name for sushi roll) (6) Wagyu Fried Rice

AS A VEGETARIAN: We really had a good time experiencing fine dine japanese cuisine. There were not too many vegetarian options but enough to get the feel of the food and the taste and the concept. Julia, our waitress for that day, did a nice job of keeping us engaged with the food and made sure we understood what we were having and keeping us informed about the concept. The Tacos were really tasty and the crispy tofu was really well made. The avacado sushi roll was really amazing and was prrobably the hughlight of all the dishes. The desserts were very normal but the presentation was very good. All in all, definitely something you should try if you are around the area and looking for fibre dining japanese food.

Japanese fusion food in a modern, swanky setting. Visited 3 times โ€” pre, during and post covid, and Iโ€™m glad to say that the food has remained consistent, from the quality down to the plating! The portions are generally medium-sized, and good for sharing between 2-4 pax. Pls refer to the photo captions for more info.

The moment we sat down, we were asked whether we want green tea or sparkling water. We did not ask for detailed and thought the green tea is complimentary (for sure I know we have to pay for sparkling water) and to my surprise the green tea cost $7 each (the most expensive green tea I ever had). Should have read the review at least I wonโ€™t get a shock when I see the bill. Food wise we ordered the Two good to share, the starters were nice, but the salmon was average. Huge portion of Wagu fried rice to fill up your stomach. Dessert is nicely decorated but it is kind of small for 2 to share.

Food menu is well thought out. Sake suitably paired with dishes, which service staff enthusiastically suggests and explains. Ambience is excellent for couple, friends in group or a close family affair, yet you can impress your business associates here. So now the food- Fresh, well plated and presented, cool element to dishes with great taste to all Japanese like, with small part Korean influence. Kudos to the chef and all the service staff. Love it. It's becoming my regular haunt for when I want no disappointment with my dinning arrangement / engagement.

Great food, great service. Staff were attentive and they know what they are doing, this is the place where service charge deserves more than 10% of the bill. (If you live in Singapore you'll know what I mean). Highly recommend the clear soup, and Pop Rockin, the cod dish, Brother From Another Mother, and hitachino beer. Wasn't too crowded on a Saturday night, so the good ambiance was maintained. I would like to revisit and try out the rest of the menu eventually.

It was my first time here at Akira Back and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Anyhow, we ordered 15 of their dishes and those that had a fusion twist were delightful in terms of its flavours and presentation. It was truly a feast for the tummy and eyes! The sashimi items were also wonderfully fresh and of great quality. Check out my pictures for the must-try dishes and what to skip if you have to decide!

Prices for dim sum here is pretty reasonable, and there is a good variety of the staples served fresh from the carts. There are some dishes that have to be ordered from the menu as they are not available in the carts.Otherwise, service is decent. My family has been eating here for years so I definitely expect to be returning again :)

Akira Back has always been my to-visit list, finally had a chance to check it out today. Please take my review with a pinch of salt as I have very low tolerance for spice. Reservation to seating was done in good order. Great service and very lively ambient. The server first asked our dietary restriction which in our case was none. As this is an acclaimed modern Japanese restaurant, we started with a fusion selection of cold and warm starter. The wagyu taco was good but a tag too much pepper. We then had a salad with tuna tataki, the ginger dressing was unexpectedly more spicy then normal. After which, we were extra careful selecting our main courses. There were a number of fancy sushi rolls with description like 'with dynamite sauce"; a definitely no-no for us. So we ordered something very "safe" which was the negiri sushi combo. The results? It came with fiery spicy tuna rolls. Fortunately, our last main course was the beef ribs and it turned up great! The restaurant uses high quality and fresh ingredients for their dishes, in my case it was unfortunately too spicy. Maybe in future, I might response to question on dietary restriction with a yes, I have spice intolerance. Frankly, in my opinion, Japanese cuisine should not be spicy, otherwise we will miss the natural taste or umani of the fresh ingredients used.

Food was awesome and their dessert presentation was nice with reasonable price. The service crew was attentive too. If you want to reserve for cny set you have to inform and confirm with them 2 days earlier. I booked via chope few days back but no one call me to confirm if we want the set. In the end i order ala cart food. Abit disappointed as the main purpose is to have their dinner set

Place had a classy ambience and the menu consisted of fusion Japanese food. Tuna Pizza was a real highlight and the salmon sashimi was super fresh. Service staff was also friendly and responsive. This is definitely not a place to go to for budget food but overall was a good experience.

Great food, service, and ambience. Not cheap but you can use your bonvoy membership for a good discount (depending on status). Would highly recommend the 48 hour braised beef, hokkaido scallops, and 'lets go nuts' dessert. You can give the crispy pork belly roll a miss.

Very prompt service. Scan QR code for menu. Food was also served promptly. Famous for tuna pizza. Server also highlighted that tuna is raw. Crust feels more like a biscuit than pizza. But nice. Ji-Dori chicken - the mash potato is superb, but chicken is so-so. Short ribs are very very tender. Portion is small though. Wagyu Fried rice is tasty. King crab fried rice is basically the same fried rice, but crab instead of wagyu. Not much crab portion, think can go for wagyu instead. Line Caught Pacific Halibut is veryyyyyy nice! We even ordered a second portion. Brother from Another mother roll is also nice. Very interesting dish name.

Beautiful, upscale Japanese-fusion. Gorgeous space and nice vibe. Service is fantastic. Not sure why most of their rolls are cooked fish/meat, but everything else was delicious and well prepared. The restaurant is located in the posh South Beach area. Very nice atmosphere and good service. I was quite disappointed no one told us beforehand that their omakase course menu needs to be preordered 2 days in advance. Food is good but nothing extraordinary and their a la carte menu is in my opinion slightly overpriced. My friend wanted to try the Tangin Orchid Gin but even though it's on the menu we were told upon ordering it was no longer available. I had one of their signature cocktails, the flavour was a very standard mix of sweet and sour and the alcohol (gin) was too diluted. Overall a decent experience but not quite the best bang for your buck.

I've been to this restaurant five times. It's a stylish restaurant at JW Marriott, which offers modern and creative reinvention of Japanese cuisine. It is predominantly modern Japanese, but you'll notice a Korean thread running through several dishes. While I prefer their dinner and ala carte menu, do also consider their affordable set lunches from $40++ inclusive of an appetizer, main course, and dessert.

The Chefโ€™s signature (available from 1st to 31st July 2021) is a pleasant and enjoyable 5-course meal. The sauces used in some of the dishes elevated the taste, allowing you to savour the moment. Dessert was just right; not too sweet. Our Korean server, Evelyn, is a very professional and attentive person who enhanced our dining experience too. We were fortunate to have been attended to by such a well-mannered and good-natured staff. Overall, this Japanese cuisine with a touch of Korean accents was delicately unique.

Was encouraged to try due to the high reviews. Let me share a personal review on my experience tonight. Service and ambiance are good, the attendants are quite responsive and always on a look out. The food arrived at reasonable time as well. Iโ€™ve read on some reviews about the noise level, and yes agree that I canโ€™t really hear my friend talking a meter away from me. For some weird reason itโ€™s difficult to converse, so must talk slightly louder. We had the AB Mushroom Pizza, flavor packed and satisfying. The grilled Alaskan King crab has good flavor. However I feel for the size (four legs comparable to an adult male index or middle finger) doesnโ€™t justify the price $42++. We tried the most expensive roll called Holy Cow $32++ decent size but my least favorite, couldnโ€™t taste the beef, I was even asking my friend, โ€œdude whereโ€™s the cow?โ€ We even tried detaching just the beef on that roll, and really really, promise, cannot taste any beef flavor, none. It was so over powered by the kimchi and garlic flavor. It was as if you are eating a kimchi roll with some interesting texture. Gosh I hate to say this but the Genki beef sushi would have defined the โ€œholy cowโ€ much better. The 48 hour short rib is good, texture and flavor good but to be honest Iโ€™ve tried other places with better short rib dishes. For those who like the lightly flavored-side, this might work. The Ji-dori chicken is good. The thing is Iโ€™ve watched the interview online on how this was made, all I can say is it does not commensurate the effort to the taste of the final product. It is undoubtedly finesse in presentation and texture, but flavor wise itโ€™s not a wow. Perhaps Iโ€™ve expected too much from the publicity ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Please donโ€™t get me wrong, it wasnโ€™t a horrible experience, but personally, again, personally, we wouldnโ€™t spend $300-$400 for the experience we had tonight.

I love this modern take on Japanese food. Considering Japanese "haut cuisine" prices in SG, its not a bad price point for the quality but don't expect traditional Japanese fare. I love the "AB pizza". Tuna and mushroom with truffle oil. They have interesting fusion rolls and the Cod is slightly above standard. Great place for work lunches and catch ups. The service team is efficient and attentive. It's not bad place for Non-meat eaters, with several options worth trying. Added bonus is if you are a Marriott Bonvoy there is usually some discount based on your status. Parking is easy.

Very very great service from Jenny which made the entire dining experience extra amazing! We were allocated a very intimate space for our bday celebration and despite not being on the main floor, Jenny constantly checked in to see if we need anything which was great! The food recommended by Jenny were super tasty too! We had the tuna pizza, hot mess sushi roll, cod, chicken and beef cheeks and 2 of their desserts! Will highly recommend the savoury dishes! :)

A lovely place for a romantic date night with a delectable, innovative menu, modern decor, and amicable staff. Also suitable for family meals and business dinners, especially if you can get one of the more private booths at the back of the restaurant. Would definitely come back again. The food was impressive in its creative and flavourful pairings. Almost every item wowed us. We were absolutely blown away by the wagyu tacos - that's our favourite without a doubt; it was divine and the beef was so damn juicy and umami! The hot shrimp tempura with sriracha ranch was also really good with the spiciness giving the perfect kick without overwhelming the taste of the shrimps (which were very juicy and QQ!), and its crispy batter was just the right consistency and not too thick. The beef don with foie gras was very satisfying; the rice was cooked perfectly and the sauce complemented the dish wonderfully. The tuna pizza was very interesting and light on the palate. Hokkaido scallops were sweet and the pairing with the kiwi slice was a pleasant surprise. Only thing that was kinda meh for us was the Holy Cow sushi roll. It was not bad, but we couldn't really taste the beef - felt like it got lost in the other flavours and therefore wasn't very worth the price. Lastly, a small gripe about the service - we were there to celebrate my partner's birthday, which I had stated clearly in the reservation online form (the form had options for us to select the occasion, such as "Birthday" or "Anniversary"). I had hoped there would be a small dessert and it would be a surprise for him. However it seems the staff might be too busy to remember or pay attention to such a detail, because nobody offered us any birthday dessert throughout the whole meal, even when we asked for the dessert menu. This is just a tiny disappointment, because there was no convenient time for me to speak to the staff to bring out a dessert as a surprise, and so my partner later had to directly ask if they served any dessert for his own birthday. :( To be fair, they were very happy to serve it once we asked, but I had expected more initiative to do so, given that I had already indicated this in the form. Nonetheless, the service was still wonderful. The staff were appropriately chatty but still professional; the frequency of them checking in on us was never intrusive, unlike at other restaurants where the waiters might be constantly asking us how the food is etc.

Outstanding flavors, quality and service. Mushroom and Tuna pizzas are both a must have. Brother from Another Mother was innovative and fun. Botan Ebi was some of the best I have ever had. I think we ordered half the menu and we were not disappointed. We will order the other half next visit!

Love the ambience of the restaurant, designer cleverly made use of the spaces despite location being split across different level . Special call out Hokkaido scallop which was sublime, the caviar and kiwi brought out the natural sweetness of the sea . 4/5 Tuna pizza is thinly sliced tuna layered on a very thin puff pastry, unusual execution. 4/5 The rolls had fanciful name such as Hot mess (spicy tuna ), brother from another mother( anago and unagi) and perfect storm but felts itโ€™s nice but did not impress. 3/5 Mains dishes of chicken and salmon was average. 3/5, tasty, canโ€™t find any fault. Best part of the night , desserts ๐Ÿฎ were actually amazing โ€ฆ just 2 of them . 1. Bee Hive is meringue shaped like bee hive filled with mango sauce n mango 2. Cigar is literally quite the presentation of chocolate on a bed of crumbs beneath strawberry jam 3. Pecan pie was ok

[Visit in May 2023] Visited Akira Back for our anniversary celebration, and we are glad we did. Thanks to Jenny and team for making it a memorable one for us. Service was personable and prompt. Food was delish - esp their signature tuna pizza which came drizzled with aromatic truffle oil. Enjoyed the hot mess sushi, ribeye and hirame carpaccio as well. For the dessert, we got the chocolate in a cup which was an interesting play of texture (foam and cake) and flavours (hazelnut, banana, choc). I enjoyed it a lot, but it wasnโ€™t quite up hubโ€™s alley. Highly recommend coming to beautiful artsy Akira Back for special occasions ๐Ÿ‘

Some of the recommended dishes include wagyu tacos, black cod, crispy tofu and beef cheek. The dessert Beehive was a great choice to end the meal. Overall bill came up to $300++ for 3 pax.

Ordered brother from another mother, tuna pizza, sashimi platter and wagyu taco. Since it was Korean/japanese fusion, many of the dishes we ordered had their handmade sauce - which mostly tasted like mayo, which could get a bit heavy in my opinion and it does cover some of the taste of the main stars. I did enjoy the tuna pizza despite that. The foie gras on brother from another mother definitely downsized when I compared it to past reviews. Sashimi was subpar for the price that we paid, apart from the chutoro, as some of them felt a tad fishy. Overall, food was okay only for the price we paid. However, the service and atmosphere was definitely on point.
