Fix of Malaysian, Indonesian, and Singaporian cuisine. Most dishes are spicy and with strong flavors. Many curry dishes. Pretty good but might be too spicy for some people. The slow cooked beef cheek rendang is really awesome, strongly recommended.

Good Peranakan menu with reasonably priced dishes to share. We had: - Singgang - Sambal buah keluak fried rice - beef cheek rendang - 4 angled bean salad - brinjal - Kueh kosui for dessert The sambal on the side is excellent but the service is sadly subpar.

Edit: really is great food. My favourite Peranakan place. But slow slow slow and no atmosphere (hotel lobby).

Amazing peranakan food however the dishes were either hits or misses. Good: Salted duck soup with lime juice and chilli padi, 4 angled bean salad, beef cheek, black nut fried rice Misses: Otah, Singgang, kuay chap (too salty) Service was very weak and slow on this day, with only 2 pax running the floor. Also all cocktails were not available and we were only informed after ordering. Yes, I would return but not anytime soon.

Came here with visitors from overseas as wanted to show them some heritage nyonya food. There were three of us and we ordered a total of 5 dishes (way too much, but the waiter said was managable. Strike 1 when they convince you to overorder). We had the buah keluak fried rice ($28++), the seafood otak ($22++), the beef cheek rendang ($36++), four angle bean salad ($12++) and the sayur lodeh ($16++). The dishes worth mentioning is the fried rice, seafood otak and the four angle bean salad. The beef cheek was disappointing, the serving was large but in one giant lump and minimal gravy. It was tender that you could cut it with a spoon but not so tender that it falls apart. Also the lack of gravy was disappointing, even asking the waiter for more gravy and was told this is already served in portion (strike 2). The sayur lodeh was a serious let down. Don't order this!! The jackfruit seeds inside the curry had this hard thin casing that was inedible. The taste was just average. For the price you pay, I would rather take overseas visitors to violet oon. Ambience is better. Food is way better. Service is tops. And it's only a little more from a price point. Total bill at folklore around $50 pp. Guess I'm not coming back.

Restaurant serves good peranakan food - highly recommend the otah, beef rendang and ayam goreng. For desserts, try the kueh kosui and tapioca cake with ice cream. Ambience is casual and comfortable and service is fine. Can get a little noisy when crowded but otherwise a decent place to eat.

First visit. Situated on the second floor of destination hotel and acts as the food outlet of this boutique hotel. Well patronized and service was good. Ambience was cosy and casual and place was almost full. Was brought there by wife who says the food is good and has gone there a few times with friends. Food was above average and I like the Assam fish head. Sauce was appetizing. Other food was also quite good too.

If you love Peranakan, you have to try this restaurant!!! Every cuisine is uniquely rich in flavour, tangy, aromatic and spicy. Savour every bite and feel your taste buds waking up from hibernation! The Kueh Bengkah with ice cream is a ten! The sago dessert would be heavenly if there was more gula melaka.

Folklore serves traditional Eurasian and Perakanan dishes and is on a quest to keep thr Singapore food heritage alive. The dishes we ordered were super tasty and the service was top-notched. Highly recommend!

Heard so much about local Chef Damien D'Silva's heritage creation and decided to visit this place with my family. Being a 皮蛋 fan, the Chilled Tofu with Pidan is a winner. The tofu is smashed up together with century egg, radish and scallion and served chilled. Generally the food are pretty good except for a few dishes which we find it quite salty. Overall the dinner was a pretty good experience.

Heard about this place from a friend in Australia. Did not disappoint at all. So pleased with food. Unlike other similar type of food places close by. Will tell everyone about this hidden gem called Folklore. Exceptional Serani and Nyonya fare...5 stars everyday...

Authentic peranakan food, served in an upmarket setup. Beef rendang, chap chye and the pork belly were the standouts for me. A little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Good for groups and split bills accepted. Book ahead for confirmed seating.

Quick late dinner many dishes not available. Not bad, had the buluak fried rice which was excellent. The partner had lo bak kapitan soup. Got greedy and ordered all their dessert. Love all of them! Not cheap but quality is good.

Food and service is good but portions are pretty big. I over ordered as the waiteress is new and didn't realize. Wouldn't come with less than a table of 4, otherwise can't order many dishes. Beef is super tender, buakurak fried rice is rich and flavourful. Chap chai is the best rendition I've ever tried. The liver meat balls and minced wolf bering are acquired taste. They can cater to smaller groups if they have smaller portion as option.

Price is on the high side. But food is especially delicious. Especially the braised pork

It’s seldom that a person who grew up with home cooked Peranakan food will praise “outsourced” Peranakan food. But Folklore has surprised me...love the ngoh hiang, beef cheek rendang, chup chye & buah keluak fried rice. The bawan kepiting is a bit small in portion and lacks “oomph” according to my sister. Hati Babi bungkus wasn’t that great.

Popped in here for a quick bite before a movie at Projector. Really like the Singaporean menu. The main course came as a sharing plate really which was perfect for my wife and I. Delicious food I thought and was very pleasantly surprised. Will be coming back.

2nd visot. Still good and hearty meal. The otah is nice but pricey - $20 odd for a small slice. Think the protion can be better for the price.

Lovely place for modern Peranakan-fusion cuisines. The sambal buah keluak fried rice is the highlight. Ask for spicy one as they tone down to suit the local. Singgang (wolf herring dish) is quite nice too. Will return

Really, really excellent peranakan food here.. Every dish was so well executed and prices are reasonable. Resto can get a little warm esp with all that spicy food but still overall a fantastic place to dine at.

Located at Destination Hotel along Beach Road, this restaurant serves good Peranakan dishes. We had the otak, beef, meat rolls, saya lodeh, fried chicken. The desserts are also delicious.

Every dish is good. Somehow I feel the cuisine is missing something. The service has to improve. The dishes came in bits and pieces. Maybe my food drive lost momentum. Ambience is fantastic.

Lots of varieties of hawker food. Popular stalls include lor mee, bak kut/prawn mee, hokkien mee, etc. Avoid burgers, hygiene suspect. Carpark usually full at lunchtime in weekdays.

It is a rare occasion that we celebrate the success of a modernised Peranakan cuisine. But when the first taste of Buah Keluak fried rice filled my mouth, the taste was divine. The rich cocoa like aroma filling the entire palate and leaving us craving for more. The fried aubergines were crisp and so soft it almost melts. The service was genuine craft. Most of the dishes were able to capture the essence of Peranakan cuisine and therefore it deserves a thumbs up and 5 stars. The food is worth a visit especially if you love local cuisine.

Delicious food that was wonderfully prepared! :) especially loved the beef rendang (very tender), the 4 angled bean salad, and the prawn sambal petai! Ended off our meal with desserts like the kueh kosui and tapioca cake served with gula Melaka and ice cream which were amazing! Ambience of the restaurant is great and service is excellent with very friendly staff! Reasonably priced ($215 for 5 people) Parking is free (huge plus point). We’ll be back :)

Nested in destination hotel (used to be premier inn) 2nd floor, a good place for Singapore heritage food. Chef Damien serve a good sambal buah keluah fried rice . Beware - the portions are huge!

It was my first time there and I really enjoyed the food. The kiam Chye Duck soup was a winner and so was the Buakela friend rice and assam pork. Wasn't a big fan of the chup chye but am sure the other veggie dishes are good

I ordered the Sambal Buah Keluak Fried Rice and Beef Rendang. Both dishes were sensational. The beef was tender and really flavourful. Dish sizes were generous. On the higher side of the price tag but worth the money, plus an upclass clean environment.

  • 3/5 Carol F. 4 years ago on Google
It was good, but I probably wouldn’t come back again or recommend it. Nothing blew my mind/tastebuds away. It’s a nice environment and overall had no issues but it doesn’t meet the hype for me. You will probably enjoy the food though. The sting ray is bl**dy spicy though so watch out. And I can handle spicy pretty well.

Very good food from what we have experienced. We actually over ordered for 4 pax. 9 dishes plus 1 dessert. Yikes! But we all concurred that the food was high in flavour and the portions are decent. We also agreed out of the 9 , the standouts were the Buah Keluak fried rice, Singgang, chap chye, babi assam & curry capitang. The pulut hitam was also pretty good given that 2 out of our party of 4 actually do not lkle desserts much. Needless to say the bill was fairly substantial but i reckok less greedy folks can be very satiafied with 4to5 dishes. I would have given it 5 stars but the air conditioning was too weak. Also, they appear to like to cluster all the diners together for some unkown reason. So if dining comfort is a priorty, then do be warned.

  • 4/5 Christina A. 4 years ago on Google
Taste of food was definitely good. Came here the 2nd time and brought my peranakan family to see if they like it and they like it too! Only drawback was that the dishes barely had any gravy. Should have more gravy especially since the food is meant to be eaten with rice. Service was average. A female staff seemed abit impatient with my older relative.

Damian’s new venture - priced on the higher level scale.

  • 2/5 Louisa Z. 4 years ago on Google
Second time I went, sambal stingray was way way too spicy that it was almost inedible. Besides the eggplant that was pretty nice, beef rendang N fried chicken was ok only. Buah keluak fried rice wasn’t great
