Over in the Jalan Sultan area and just a short distance from the Sultan Mosque is the well-known Nasi Padang Restaurant, Hjh Maimunah Restaurant and Catering. This restaurant is also a multi year winner of the Michelin Bib Gourmand Singapore Award. Having heard great things from a friend about this restaurant, a decision was made to visit on a Saturday morning to sample the food offerings. On arrival, one should first find a seat at the ground floor or second floor. After that one joins the queue and it took a while before one finally entered the restaurant to order one's dishes. Both Dine In and Takeaway uses the same queue, so please don't think of jumping ahead if getting takeaway only. The food are all displayed on shelves behind a hygiene partition. The prices for the food options are on the display panel on the wall behind the food shelves. One first informs the staff if they are dining in (eating here) or taking away (Dabao/Bungkus/Packet). Then one points to the items one wants and the staff will place the food onto the plate or into the takeaway box. The staff will then hand over one's order where one then proceeded to make payment. If one is in need of assistance, a staff will help to carry the food to one's table. Found the food mostly acceptable, not fantastic but not bad either. The rice was a little too dry and didn't absorb the sauces or gravy from the food well as most of the food had little to no gravy. The best food option is the Tahu Telor with its nicely Fried egg with Tofu and the sauce was really yummy with a good mix of savoury and sweet. This paired really well with the rice as the rice helped to balance out the sauce flavour. Ordered some desserts but the Rainbow Kueh Lapis had layers that crumbled instead of being stretchy and not easily peeled, while the Pandan Kueh Salat had a really yummy pandan custard but the glutinous rice still had some uncooked grains within. The meal was overall acceptable and it is great to see a Nasi Padang stall get on the Michelin Bib Gourmand Singapore Award. However, it is good for a visit to try but unlikely for a return visit General Verdict: A good Nasi Padang restaurant with yummy ingredients that is a little pricier than most but avoid the dessert items Opening Hours: Daily 7:30am-7:30pm (Closed on Sundays) Queue Situation: About 15 mins to 30 mins Price: SG$6 upwards Payment Mode: Cash and Visa/Mastercard/AMEX Credit Cards (Physical and Paywave) Is this worth a try? Probably Is it worth making a trip just to try it? Only if you are in the vicinity Is this worthy of the Michelin Bib Gourmand Singapore Award? Unsure Items Ordered: 1) Item: Nasi Padang (Mixed Rice) - Rice with Mixed Vegetables and Ingredients Description: The different ingredients were acceptable without being too savoury. The rice was a little dry as the ingredients didn't have much sauce. The chilli was spicy and yummy at the same time Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$6.80 (Varies according to food selection) 2) Item: Tahu Telor Jakarta - Fried tofu with egg, Jakarta style Description: Great tasting tofu and Egg dish that had a savoury and yummy sauce, which may need some rice to balance the flavour as some may find the sauce a little string Verdict: Very Good, Must Order Price: SG$7 3) Item: Rainbow Kueh Lapis - Rainbow coloured layered cake Description: The Rainbow Kueh Lapis didn't have much flavour and the layers were too stiff, crumbling while being separated Verdict: Rainbow Kueh Lapis - Fail, Don't Waste Time Price: SG$0.90 4) Item: Pandan Kueh Salat - Pandan Custard on Glutinous Rice Cake Description: The Pandan Kueh Salat had a really yummy custard top but the Glutinous Rice was not cooked thoroughly resulting in some hard grains in the rice layer Verdict: Pandan Kueh Salat - Acceptable, Order only if you want to try Price: SG$0.90

Anyone who is a member of the Nasi Padang appreciation club should make a pilgrimage to this unassuming joint in Jalan Pisang. They’ve been recognised by Michelin for good reason. I’ve tried the beef rendang, bergedil, brinjal, and ayam lemak gravy on rice. These classics hit the spot with good flavour and balanced spiciness. The bright red sambal condiment goes well with the brinjal, beef is a mix of chewy marinated meat and soft tendon, and bergedil has a crisp coating around lightly seasoned mashed potato. That yellow gravy rich with coconut and fragrant spices is divine eaten with rice. While the servings may not look much at first glance, the meal is enough to fill you once you’ve emptied the plate.

Like what many claimed, this was one of those long saved but not checked off places in my books too - finally found a day in which we are craving for some spicy food and decided to head down here! At 1:30pm, the queue was still stretching out of the store, although it does move relatively quickly, it’s pretty hard to get a table even with second level seating - somewhat like a hawker centre if I may. The selection was in abundance compared to the other Nasi Padang stalls (which really isn’t in the same league), from the normal begedil to the rare tahu goreng. 💰 the price point is okay - though the tahu goreng at $8 was pricier than the fish and chicken which were $5 a piece. Food was really good in general! The tahu goreng, grilled chicken and fish are a must order when you visit 🍗 🐠 Definitely will revisit when I’m craving for a good Nasi Padang with a wider variety!

Had good delivery a few days ago and it was good and fresh. The chicken although a whole leg did not have a much meat as I expected. The bakso beef broth was rich and tasty. The spinach was cooked just right, not soggy or slimy. The eggplant's sambal was delicious and not too spicy. Ondeh was so so only, the gula melaka filling could have been more generous. Overall, a decent and satisfying meal.

Cannot go wrong at this place. Attracts tons of locals and can feed an army or an individual. Recommend going in as a group of 4 or more, that way you get to try a whole bunch of dishes. A good combination of vegetarian, seafood and meat dishes. There is a dish for any preference. And the quality is just amazing.

Okay… the food is good enough to make the queue worth it. The queue moves super slow mostly due to some staff takes very long in dishing. But trust me, the food is worth the chaos in getting the food. Plenty of seating including upstairs. Their specialty is the spicy squid in squid ink sauce. It’s quite spicy but flavourful. Other classic dishes like fried tofu with egg, chicken curry, beef rangdong and variety of fried dishes are all done well.

My first visit @ this Michelin star Hjn Maimunah Restaurant. Queue was quite long, waiting in the queue to make your order was about an hour. Was it worth the long queue? Well, some of the dishes was pretty good, some was just so so. The fish was not fresh with fishy smell. I like the Beef Randang the most. They have a big dinning area on second floor so it doesn't feel cramp, Overall experience was good but didn't really feel the Michelin love.

I can't say much for the price because my friends treated me to this, but when I tasted the dishes, I was transported back in time to the kinds of food I had growing up. It's legit grandma's cooking. I think if my nenek was still alive, she would love this place. That's very high praise, considering she was and amazing cook and picky eater. Thoroughly satisfied and happy with my lunch here, so thank you very much. I'm gonna be dreaming of your food a lot now that I'm back in the US. T_T

In my opinion, this is the best nasi padang restoran in Singapore. The turnover at this branch is high and the food is always fresh. Prices seem to have increased quite a bit in the last few years unfortunately. On my last dine-in visit on 17 February 2024: S$11.00 - Beef rendang, taugeh kerabu, telur masin, begedil S$6.50 - sambal goreng, sayur lodeh, begedil S$2.40 - two pieces of kuih kuih

It's my first time eating at this restaurant based on my wife's and mom in law's recommendation. Apparently, this place have been around since the 90s and I've been visiting Singapore since I was a kid but never knew about this place. It's a nice restaurant that serves rice with many variety of lauks. It's more of Malay type of cooking than minang style. The food was pretty good. Tasty and delicious all around. But most important of all, it doesn't break bank. For the 2 meals with 1 kuih and drinks for two, it's about 23 SGD. I'd say that's pretty good price. This place opens as early as 7:30am. But peak time is usually 12pm onwards. So if you come earlier than that, then you won't have to queue that long and there's plenty of space to eat, especially at level 2 upstairs. I think I'll eat here again if I visit Singapore again with family or friends. It's a great food place to eat with a group, enjoying the food and each other's company.

I wasn't planning to come here but I saw a vlog from Mark wiens where they sample all dishes and I thought, I have to pay this place a visit as well. Surprisingly it is a Michelin star restaurant and there was a queue which meant great food. The food didn't disappoint and in fact satisfied years and years of cravings... The staff couldn't be more supportive as well, helping me order the best food for the best experience...

I ordered 2 meat (chicken and beef) and 2 vegetables (green and achar) with rice. It costed $12. We had high expectation because of the good google reviews, the crowd the the restaurant and high price but were disappointed because it did not fare any better than other nasi padang stalls we had eaten before. Also, my beef portion has little meat and lots of fats, adding more disappointment to be meal.

Came here because of Michelin star. Chicken and prawn are very tasty. Black sauce on the chicken flavor and make the meat not too dry. If rice is softer it will be perfect. Price is acceptable, with drink is S$11 in total. Not too many seats, but turn quite fast, then it is not a problem eating there.

Ordered via Oddle. Easy to navigate, good and easy way to order Nasi Ambeng and Nasi Padang to enjoy in comfort of home. Everything was well packed. Food tasted very good and professionally done. Will definitely order again. The paru was very tender and so was the beef rendang (dry style). Ayam lemak was packed separately.

Stayed nearby and came to eat here almost every day! Food is authentically Indonesian and tastes absolutely delicious, they accept credit card payments as well which is quite a novelty in small shops in Singapore (dont know why). Everything we tried was good 👍

Decided to give them a try because of good reviews. There’s more seats available upstairs and it’s air conditioned. There’s one shared toilet upstairs too. Ordered some dishes to share for 2 paxs and it cost us $26.60. Honestly speaking, beef rendang and fried chicken is tough and dry. Brinjal was bland. Begedel is soggy. Asam ikan taste okay. Also, food wasn’t served hot.

It’s Michelin bib, and we are fan of nasi Padang. The black squid samba was great. The rendang chicken was a little over cooked but the flavourful gravy help. The the handout anchovies potatoes chilli was ok. Asam fish was well done with perfect ladyfingers. The samba chilli provided was very fresh and right amount of spiciness and flavour. Cuttlefish was forgettable. Tahgay long bean salad cannot go wrong. Yes I will be back again. Here there is more consistency than many other NP restaurants around the area.

Had a fantastic meal with a colleague today. Of all the Singaporean cuisine options, Malay is by far my favorite. No other restaurant exemplifies better than HJH Maimunah.

What a delight. Traditional Malay food with a huge spread. Local atmosphere and flavourful dishes. Do expect a line as it’s very popular but things move fast. The food is quite heavy on the oil so yeah something to keep in mind but it’s absolutely delish! Also plenty of vegetarian options :)

Needless to say, when you want to eat Nasi Padang here is the place I would recommend. Bring friends so you can try more dishes. Ordered 2 sets of each dish for 8pax with lime juice, roughly around $120. Didn’t order the tahu telor today, which is a must try.

Fail safe place to get your nasi padang fix. Huge variety of dishes, all well made yums, no crazy / exhorbitant prices - I think that’s the recipe for their ever-long queues!

Pretty efficient set up. I got caught in the lunch queue but it moved fast. If crowded go and get a table first. The ayam Bakar and goreng were both good. Veggies and bagedil were ok. Going back again to try more items but the meats were very well cooked and marinated

Came early at around 9 am to beat the crowd and to be able to secure seating for 2. That shows how popular this place is. Food is delicious and flavourful as expected.

Can’t recommend this place enough. When I didn’t even know how to order, let alone what to order from the amazing selection I was served by the most patient and wonderful staff. Then a bonus the food was incredible!!

Good Malaysian padang food in the area. Very crowded place. Many selection to choose from, and generally all are good. Upstairs has place to eat with aircond, which is good. But the stairs are quite steep to climb.

Came for the excellent food. Wasn’t disappointed. The tahu telor came with a generous helping of their sweet sauce. The Ayam Masak Cili Padi (I think that’s what’s it’s called) was the best I’ve ever tried. Their tahu goreng and Sayor lodeh was ok.

Very good food, super tasty. This place is recommended by michelin gourmand. Price was standard $6-$9, large place. Nasi padang but has slightly more melayu taste, I love it tho. You better try the serundeng. Will come again next time

The food we ordered were way better that the last time we ordered. The spiciness of the sambal udang/sotong were just nice for us. The ikan siakap with kicap is our go to favourite. Pair it with lemak siput sedut, it's a done deal. Place can be a little crowded at times. Best to do reservations or perhaps come during non peak periods. Overall, a good spot for a homely dishes.

This is the first Bib Gourmand Nasi Padang eatery in SG & my goto place for Nasi Padang, though many of the dishes have more Malay than Minangkabau influence. This used to be a boarding house for people waiting for their Haj-bound vessels. I recommend ordering dishes separately from rice so you can share them with friends. Remember to leave room for desserts as they have some unique and delicious ones!

The famed HJH stall, service generally fast and easily available seats. Bbq chicken is good, chilli not as spicy as expected. Taste n kueh i find abit catered for local more than the stronger indonesian taste..price is more reasonable than some other nasi padang stalls.

We came here out of the curiosity of one thing; the Michelin guide. What are the standards given by Michelin for this restaurant to entitle such honour. After we had our lunch here, what can we conclude is; they really serve real and authentic Malay foods. RECOMMENDED!

Great halal restaurant in Singapore. A lot of choices of foods and drinks. Good taste and yummy. Very clean place, friendly staffs, nice ambiance. Nice and classic building surrounding. Price is very affordable and with good taste of cuisine. First time here is very pleasant and satisfied, will come here more.

Wide variety of food options available. Super fast & organized service by staffs. Seating options available on ground floor and level 2. Things to note: For large orders, you would be able to get staffs to send the food to your table. Limited seating capacity at the ground floor. Subjected to availability on first come first served. Second floor seating only has staircase access and not wheelchair or pram friendly. Parking: Paid street parking and super limited. (Download the parking coupon app online for convenience.)

As always, food is great. Generous amount of sambal belachan but can't say the same about the rendang. One serving is $4.50 and in the photo, it's actually 2 servings and the portion is very small. They also skimped on the rendang gravy making me wonder if it's worth the $4.50. Otherwise, everything else is fantastic.

My husband's first visit here and he had only good things to say about the taste of the food. He is not a local, so not used to eating Malay dishes but he totally enjoyed savouring all of these dishes. From the ayam bakar, Asam pedas, gulai ayam curry and bagedil, he gave them the thumbs up. I felt the rendang and sambal goreng used to taste much much flavourful until 3 years ago. The kangkong stir fry was served cold but otherwise their food is delicious. The rice was a little undercooked though.

  • 5/5 Obi 1 year ago on Google
Excellent Malay cuisine. I bit costly though, a fried fish cost about $4.50 and can be as much as $10? They have also grilled fish. Three dishes 1 meat and 2 vegetable cost about $10.

Foodies' paradise! Bring a few friends who can eat (and enjoy eating!) and order away! The choices that you have is overwhelming plus everything looks (and is) super delicious so you will want to order everything (even though it's not possible). As with other nasi padang places, prices are steep but well worth it. 4 of us (ladies) ordered what's in the photo (all small portions, other than the fish) and our bill came up to about S$87. The establishment has a few other branches (with similarly long queues). I'd love to be able to order via QR code rather than stand in line though... Maybe something for the shop to consider?

Most Singaporeans would be familiar with the famed @hjhmaimunahrestaurant so it's a wonder it took me so long to come and try. And we were not disappointed by the sweet, spicy, savoury goodness in each plate. The rice served was dry by choice because you'll need a very dry vessel to soak up all the sauces for maximum flavour

Sincerely speaking, whenever me and my family were free, we would go out, sometimes to Haijah Mimunah. So today we decided to go to Haijah Mimunah. I ordered an iced milo with rice and kuah lemak with ayam goreng. After I finished my food, I was going to drink my iced milo, and when I was about to drink my iced milo, I noticed a small seed (or so I thought), and I quickly took it and placed it on my plate. When I looked at it, I realized it was not a seed but a small bug-like creature. When I realized it was a bug, I quickly lost my appetite and felt like throwing up. Sincerely, I had high expectations for Haijah Mimunah and didn’t know I would ever have to write a bad review of this restaurant. Please try to put a cover on the cup next time, or do whatever action is needed.I have some photos to prove as evidence . thank you .
