Before
leaving
the
restaurant
this
afternoon
(January
6),
I
made
a
mental
note
to
publicly
commend
one
of
the
wait
staff
-
a
young
bespectacled
young
chap
with
floppy
hair
(I'm
trying
my
best
to
describe
him
in
lieu
of
a
name)
-
for
his
proactive
and
earnest
attitude,
which
is
as
rare
as
a
double
rainbow
in
Singapore's
dining
and
retail
scene.
We
were
impressed
right
from
the
get-go
when
he
enthusiastically
waved
hello
to
my
elderly
mother
at
the
entrance,
which
immediately
put
her
at
ease
at
this
uber
chic
restaurant
(older
folks
may
sometimes
feel
intimidated
by
modernity).
He
went
on
to
ensure
she
was
comfortable
by
asking
her
if
she
wanted
warm
water,
and
later
on,
Chinese
tea,
and
prior
to
desserts,
if
we
were
celebrating
a
special
occasion,
all
without
us
prompting.
If
you're
wondering,
he
was
equally
affable
at
the
other
tables
he
served,
engaging
in
friendly
small
talk
with
the
diners.
I
respect
all
who
take
their
jobs
seriously
and
appear
to/genuinely
enjoy
what
they
are
doing
(waiting
tables,
especially
during
these
extraordinary
times,
is
never
easy).
Almost
as
impressive
were
the
two
plant-based
dim
sum
items:
their
well-deserved
award-winning
Pan-fried
'Impossible'
Gyoza
and
Sichuan
Plant-based
Meat
and
Cabbage
Steamed
Dumplings
(we
had
the
value-for-money
weekday
dim
sum
brunch).
I
quit
eating
beef
close
to
twenty
years
ago
for
religious
reasons.
Their
Pan-fried
'Impossible'
Gyoza
made
me
reminisce
the
good
old
days
of
partaking
in
the
meat
that
I
once
loved.
Their
meat-based
dim
sum
items,
frankly,
paled
in
comparison.
I
can
finally
understand
why
some
of
the
previous
reviewers
would
choose
to
order
from
their
plant-based
menus
even
though
they
are
not
vegans
or
vegetarians.
I
think
I
will
too
if
I
return
for
their
dim
sum
brunch.
Also
unforgettable
in
taste
were
the
King
Prawn
Dumpling
in
Supreme
Broth
(very
rich)
and
Pumpkin
Teapot
Soup
(so
cute).
Though
there
were
misses
food-wise,
the
soups,
plant-based
dim
sum
and
impeccable
service
from
everyone
on
the
team,
not
to
mention
the
view
of
the
Singapore
River,
made
up
for
the
shortcomings,
and
I
do
not
mind
coming
back
to
check
out
their
ala
carte
and
dinner
set
menus
in
the
near
future.
